I'm a straight male and I have been this way all my life, but I have a soft spot for the LGBTQ community and I have always wished them the very best. A co-worker of my office, who also happens to be a bisexual woman, suggested me this short film some time ago. I just didn't have the time to give it a watch unfortunately. Got caught up with work too much, I guess!
Anyways, I decided to hit the play button last week and I was soon met with this shy but sweet Izzie portrayed by even more sweeter Alice Tsui who is about to experience her first date with Kate, another lesbian woman. Izzie's nervousness, her constant hesitance before the meet was a bit too much relatable for me, since that's how I was feeling before my first date! Didn't expect this coincidence at all, so kudos to Jenna Larson!
Now when it comes to the plot, I have to admit - I was a bit disappointed. Love stories shouldn't be only about the stimulating sex, it should be about the words too. The only bit of dialogue that I found intriguing was when the credits were about to roll. I know Ms. Larson was keen on showing the fun side of bisexual relationships instead of the typical dramatic side - but at least give us some lines to back up the theory! Let us know if Alice truly liked Kate. Let us know if there was any chemistry between them at all. Having a fast sex doesn't prove any of that, to be honest. Sex is just a physical feeling - when you're done with it you get up and take a shower and you can forget about the event. But when you talk in whispers to the person you love, that's one thing you'll never forget. This works for homosexual or bisexual relationships as well. So here's my critic of this film in a summary:
PROS: great context, great casting, great makeups and costume designs (and great music too!)
CONS: no chemistry between the characters (fast sex isn't chemistry at all), no exact plot and very little dialogues to tell the story.
