What happened to Nick Jr? When I was a kid, they had tons of entertaining shows to watch such as Blue's Clues and The Backyardigans. They were good because they combined a solid curriculum with entertainment.
But, Prick Jr apparently wants to take us back to the 80s, where cartoons were cheap-looking, corny, were made to sell toys, and had fake educational value. Because all of their original productions since 2010 are all of those thing (Paw Patrol, Shimmer and Shine, the list goes on)....and Sunny Day is no exception.
First of all, this show is a Strawberry Shortcake copy. In Strawberry Shortcake, the characters are kids and they have jobs, and there are no parents. In Sunny Day, the characters are kids and they have jobs, and there are no parents. So Sunny Day is about this Mary-Sue named Sunny who runs a hair-salon. In every episode, the main characters have a problem, can't solve it, and then they solve it with hair-styling.
I thought media was trying to eliminate female stereotypes, but NO. In this show, the characters (especially Blair) worry about their looks and obsess over makeovers and other stereotypical girly things. I'd like to see a tomboy character in a modern Nick Jr show for once, instead of a girly girl. It makes me so sad to see such one-dimensional, shallow characters in animation.
The animation is also horrid. The characters are rendered in 2D, and they are very unpleasant on the eyes. They are animated in poor Adobe Flash. Everything else is rendered in VIDEO- BRINQUEDO LEVEL CGI. I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. The only cartoon that mixes 2D and 3D correctly is The Amazing World of Gumball.
Just avoid this show. Horrible messages to kids and is nothing of substance. Watch Ready Jet Go instead.
