Happyend

This movie was a chance catch at MAMI when I couldn't get in for Kneecap (about Irish rappers). Went in with zero expectations and quite enjoyed it.

A coming of age story of a group of high school friends who are into pranks and music, with subtexts around racism and democratic erosion. But it was still a fun watch.

Great cast which showed an unexpectedly multi-national student body. In a particular scene you realize that more than a third of the class are non-Japanese. I guess that is why it is set in the near-future, in a more cosmopolitan Japan.

Coincidentally my second Japanese school drama in two years - my favourite at MAMI 23 was Hirokazu Koreeda's Monster. That was about middle schoolers, now I got the high school experience as well :)
