Upadhyaksha focuses on Narayana (Chikkanna) who has taken up the responsibility to irk the village head Shiva Rudregowda (Ravi Shankar). Their fun banter takes a turn when Shiva Rudregowda hires Narayana as a servant in return to the money owed by Narayana's drunkard father. Gowda's younger daughter Anjali (Malaika) falls for Narayana and convinces him to elope with her. What happens after they elope, with a psycho cop and hee father chasing them, forms rest of the story.
Upadhyaksha has a frustrating sequel which atleast is passable in the first half for it's silly comedy scenes minus the cheap double entendre humor, the character of Sadhu Kokila brings in. It is the second half where the story goes haywire, focusing on the eloped couple and struggle to decide whether it wants to remain a comedy film throughout. Because the dramatic moments are as cringe as it can get and the humor here barely works. Even the expected cameo in the end is not enough to save this mess. The Chikkanna brand humor works in the first half and that's about it.
