Cumhuriyet (The Republic) is another failed attempt to picture the foundation of Turkish Republic. On the other hand, for Turkish audience this is just an "Ataturk" movie.
This movie is a case study to teach wasting a hansom amount of money on costumes does not make a movie good. All the aspects of good movie making is neglected by the director. First of all, lead cast is just a farce. Rutkay Aziz playing Atatürk, has no similarities with Ataturk at all. He is fat, stocky, charisma free fellow with a bass voice where Ataturk was slim, handsome man with a high pitched voice. It is apparent that the Aziz did not bother to study Ataturk's mimics and gestures. The result is a stupid man claiming he is Ataturk and the only resemblance is his dyed hair.
Another problem of the movie is its story telling. The scenario wants to tell too many things and the result is almost fast forwarding spaced movie in which no special even is treated fairly. Everything happened so hastily and wrapped up all of a sudden.
This is not movie making and the result is extremely forgettable movie which looks rather Ataturk and his colleagues costume show and nothing more.
