It was a time when some old school directors were filming the redemption of the prostitutes. In "Les Filles De nuit" ,exactly like in Leo Joannon's contemporary "Desert De Pigalle" , a priest fights against the pimps who " exploit you" and make you lead a sinful life . Both the screenplay and the directing are rather limp and highly talented George Marchal certainly felt nostalgic for his brilliant work with Luis Bunuel in 1956 and 1957.The rest of the cast is undistinguished ,although Claus Holm as the priest makes meritorious efforts to succeed in his performance .He delivers a long speech which does not spare the rich bourgeois who are shocked because they are sitting next to the whores in the church ;he makes the expected hints at the gospels (don't judge...... / the prostitutes will enter the kingdom of God before you, etc).
