I am mixed race, I have Irish in me, Mexican, black, so I got away with it by basically not looking black. When I met my agent for the first time he said he didn't mean to be rude but that I didn't look black and he would pitch me as French Indian. A lot of the girls would not sleep with black actors as it was taboo in those days but they considered me white even though I had an Afro and a mustache.
