Two rival serial killers.
One common enemy.

Forensic anthropologist Dr. Jack Sorensen is the perfect serial killer. In the bright lights of his public persona he’s a respected scientist, a leader in the field of human decomposition. But in his shadowed secret life he’s a ruthless and elusive killer, unseen by the authorities who have failed to follow his faint trail of destruction. Beautifully cold, brilliant and cruel, Jack wants nothing more than to keep his life captured in his vise-like grip of control. And Jack Sorensen never makes mistakes…

…until he underestimates Dr. Kyrie Roth.

Wildlife biologist Kyrie is the enemy Jack never noticed, another murderer in his midst. A killer with equal cunning and stealth as the great Jack Sorensen, she knows all his darkest secrets, even the pieces of a past he might have forgotten. Kyrie has created the perfect habitat for her favorite research subject, but she’s finally had enough of being bitten by the beast that lives at Jack’s core. Pushed past her breaking point, Kyrie has decided to do whatever it takes to make Jack suffer. But when Kyrie’s traumatic past descends on her broken oasis, the only person who can help Kyrie banish her painful shadows might just be her greatest enemy.

History can’t always be left to decay in a cold grave. Time has a way of thawing secrets, leaving them to shine as bright as bleached bones in the sun. Can Jack and Kyrie set aside their battle and survive a world built to hunt them? Or will they kill each other first?

Marrow wasn’t as plot-heavy as I was expecting but that’s fine because I loved it as a whole and I’m actually glad bc it focused more on the romance, which I adored.

This will not be for everyone. This will be for the ones that read Butcher & Blackbird, liked the idea of two serial killers falling in love but wanted it to go a few steps further. This is that. It is darker and lacking some of the lighthearted elements B&B had, so it feels a bit more gruesome at times, but it still manages to have it's own charm.

“I looked into the captivating pale-blue of her eyes and I knew - in a fraction of a second - she would be my destruction.”

Kyrie and Jack are total opposites. Sun and the moon. Night and day. Chaos and order.
But they have one thing in common. They are both serial killers, and have a tragic past to back it up.
Kyrie is the character that brings the small bits and pieces of fun and lightheartedness to this story, with her fun, flirty and easy-going personality - as well as maybe a dead body or two.
Jack is her psychopathic, control-freak of a colleague as well as rival serial killer. She puts them both in a bit of a conundrum with FBI in town breathing down their necks after yet another missing person's report. It's a story of rivalry, cravings, obsessions and love.

“Are you going to be sweet to me, Jack?”
“Jeg vil være alt for dig, elskede.”
✧ (Translation: I want to be everything for you, my love.)

I loved following both Kyrie and Jack. Their vastly varying perspectives kept me intrigued, and as puzzle pieces were falling into place and their obsession with one another grew I had an even better time. The reason why this is not getting a higher rating is that I thought a few plot points felt a bit weak and not fully developed. The main characters and the romance is definitely the highlight in this. The rest is a bit predictable. What you see is what you get kinda deal - but still very much enjoyable. Perfect book to switch up with if you feel a slump looming.

“I have killed for my mother. I’ve killed for survival, out of compulsion, to sate cravings, and even, at times, fun. But the decisive difference is that I wouldn’t just kill for Kyrie - I would give my life. Hell, I’d even let her take it.”

Check TW's before picking it up. Not appropriate for minors!

I'm back from my sick cave and I missed you guys so much and I have a doozy of a book to talk about!!

Marrow is about two rival serial killers that are competing for the same killing territory. So this book started out really getting my attention with the amazing banter and the academic setting and background but unfortunately it lost me pretty quick. Kyrie was the most interesting character and I did really like her and her story but Jack was never really fleshed out for me and I never really felt any kind of way about him. They fell in love way too fast and the plot got totally shelved in favor of inner monologues about their feelings and really, really weird sexy times. Which brings me to what I really need to talk about bc YIKES.

Fair warning now to scroll away if explicit sex talk makes you uncomfortable bc I need to talk about some things FR! And there are also mild sexy time spoilers.

What is up with these authors writing like we don't know basic biology or human anatomy and how shit works?!
First of all these two characters are GENIUS level, highly educated Ph D's and the first time the have sex they have just killed a SP and then proceed to get busy in the pool of his BLOOD!! UMMM EXCUSE ME?!!! That blood could be freaking diseased!!! Who knows what that sicko has! OK maybe that's just me but EWWW! It gave me the ick and an urge to disinfect my kindle honestly but that wasn't the worst offense.
This guy Jack has more HARDWARE ON HIS JUNK THAN A FREAKING HOME DEPOT!!! I'm totally not kidding and he proceeds to go in this girls backdoor with not even like a courtesy call that he is coming over! NO MAM! ABSOLUTELY NOT! That woman would be disabled, it's so unserious and just not sexy babes! Pls authors just staaaahpp! YOU ARE DOING TOO MUCH!!!

Shout out to my sweet RAERAE for reading this crazy book with me and being so patient while I was dealing with the plague! I love our WTF moments together! 😂

Changing lanes with some dark moody romance and taking my sweet Raerae along with me!! SO fun! 💙

Unfortunately, this was a disappointing read. After enjoying Butcher & Blackbird, I was hoping for a similar experience, but sadly, this book fell short in nearly every aspect. The premise showed promise, blending science with dark romance, but the execution felt flat.

At first glance, this book gave me the impression of a Ali Hazelwood's STEM romance meets S.T. Abby's Mindf*ck series. However, as the story progressed, it became clear that it was something entirely different. While the concept of dark science and romance intrigued me, the execution lacked depth, and the story never fully reached its potential.

Spoilers ahead!!

Plot Overview

Given the setup at the start, I expected a crime thriller subplot, but the focus quickly shifted primarily to the romance. The plot felt anticlimactic, with little attention given to the supposed competition between the characters. By the second half, the characters were so consumed with each other that the rest of the plot lost focus. And really, what was the purpose of making the competition revolve around Brad’s character only to discard him halfway through? It left the story feeling incomplete and lacking direction.

As for the spice, there were moments that felt unsettling, especially the "Sleeping Beauty" scene and the need to do it in a pool of their victim's blood. It was creepy and downright traumatic, and I definitely felt like the wrong target audience for it.

Character Analysis

Jack: Jack’s character felt underdeveloped, with very little backstory provided beyond his sociopathic tendencies and cold-blooded actions. His obsession with control, especially over his secret life as a killer, could have been compelling if it had been explored in more depth. Instead, he came off as cliché. I wish the authors provided us more about his methods and personality. Maybe then I would’ve cared for his character.

Kyrie: She seemed like a bootleg copy version of Lana Myers from the Mindf*ck series, with the name changes, dressing in men’s clothes, and survivor backstory. Her character lost authenticity as her obsession with Jack took over, making him her entire personality. While it made sense plot-wise that she’d follow Jack's path, it diminished her potential for character growth.

Final Thoughts

This book felt like a low-budget nature show spinoff with two people so desperate to channel their inner “alpha” so badly that they make claiming their “territory” their whole existence. This book crawled so Butcher & Blackbird could run. All in all, it was my first buddy read with my girl Nina, and I wouldn’t have anyone else to surfer with.

(*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ*.゚

pre-read: First Buddy Read with my girl Nina!! <3 We've been wanting to read this for so long and I'm so glad we finally can! I hope this delivers as much as Butcher & Blackbird!!

"With no gun. No knife. No ligature. No physical weapons. We won’t need them. We are the weapons."

A DARK ROMANCE WITH RIVAL SERIAL KILLERS❌️
AN ADORABLY FLUFFY DARK ROMANCE WITH RIVAL SERIAL KILLERS✅️

Trisha Wolfe is already my drug but now I am adding Brynne Weaver to the list too because holy hell what is this?!?!

Reading this just added extra years to my life because goddammn the dynamic duo of KYRIEJACK as a couple slapped. From their rivalry, insanity, animosity, games, hunting and competitiveness to their chemistry, banter, obsession, passion, protectiveness and blossoming love with a touch of normalcy 💗🥺🥹 everything about them is just *chef's kiss*

“There is only ever you and me. Us. Together. A duo. A real partnership.”

"He gives me the things he knows I need. Brass when I break glass. Stitches in a wound. The last remains of an enemy, a prized trophy. An apology, even though he might be incapable of feeling remorse. But he’s trying. And what is love if not that."

"No, the lone hyoid needs no other structure to exist. Yet it’s reliant on the life-sustaining marrow for survival.
She’s been what’s sustained me here. She’s the marrow. She’s my marrow."

And the way they try to hate each other but also can't get enough of thinking about each other in secret, the delectable tension between them right from their first encounter is just so flaming hot that the fire seeps through the skin into the bones and the way my stomach never stopped somersaulting 🦋😭🤌🏻💞 The spice omg you could be sitting in an air conditioned room and still be fanning yourself 😩😮‍💨🔥🤰 Also god I can't with those small vulnerable moments 😭❤️‍🩹 The way they accept every part of each other plus the wolf and lynx comparison💓 I can NEVER EVER get enough of KYRIEJACK.

"This is all for me. Debauched. Deviant. Corrupt. The unholy way in which I’m about to take her would make angels repent."

KYRIE - Who said the sun doesn't shine in the dark and badass bitches can't be cute, adorable and precious?! because kyrie is here to prove you wrong. The way she keeps herself ten steps ahead of him, is a perfect tease, testing Jack's patience with her smiles, never backs down from a challenge, threatens him, turns things in her favour anyhow, and fights for the love of her life she has always been in love with. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT HER. SHE IS A QUEEN, TOTALLY PERFECT👸🤌🏻💗

"I’m not the kind of girl to just take what it has to offer. I’m the one to seize it."

"Because of me, Jack Sorensen shines like the harvest moon. I am the sun whose light reflects on his cold, remote mask. And I am the celestial fire that will destroy him."

“Oh and by the way, if another woman even imagines touching you, I’ll cut off her fucking hands and feed them to you. And then I’ll take her precious hyoid and crush it, and I’ll enjoy every fucking second of forcing you to watch as I flush it down the goddamn toilet. Understand, petal?”

"I wanted to destroy the man I met after years of watching from the shadows. And I love the man I’ve come to know in the process of trying to burn you down."

JACK - Not him being all grumpy and mean to Kyrie, planning all the ways to kill her and then being obsessed with her, growing different kinds of flowers for years trying to match them with the color of her eyes perfectly 🥹😭💘 where ffs where do I get this?!?! The way he was totally whipped for Kyrie, the way he hugged her and the nickname he gave her, lille mejer , my heart feels so full🤌🏻💗 Also the fact the moment he started speaking Danish, being all lovey dovey, I had to lie down on the floor to calm myself down because THAT WAS SO FUCKING HOT🥵🧎‍♀️ EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS MAN JUST BROUGHT ME TO MY KNEES 🛐🦋😩

"I’ve never been one to pretend to fathom human nature—but everything about Dr. Roth is infuriatingly confusing to me. I’ve even imagined strapping her to a table and dissecting her on more than a few occasions."

"I knew it then, her light to my dark, her brimming kinetic energy animating my lifeless corpse."

"Jeg vil være alt for dig, elskede."
~•"I will be everything to you, love."•~

“I was frustrated because I didn’t think I could have you, the one thing I truly wanted.”

"She desires to love and be loved—and despite my limitations there, I will do my best to give her what she needs."

"I know my nature, what I’m capable of—and I don’t want anything in my possession that can ever be held over her."

"I wouldn’t just kill for KyrieI would give my life. Hell, I’d even let her take it."

Honestly, the story is overall enjoyable but the plot is mediocre. It makes you want to progress with the story but doesn't leave that much of an impact. Also, I needed more backstory about Hayes, Jack and Kyrie's pasts and some more about Kyrie stalking him because that would have been much more fun.

Some more quotes because I can't get enough of them~

"You are both the warmth of the sun and the destruction of its consuming fire."

"Tell me I’m the only one you want. The only one who can stand in your flame as you burn down the world."
"It will only ever be you, Jack,” I whisper. “No matter where you go or what you do. You’re the only one I want."

"I didn’t know what life could be like until you shone your light into the dark. You are as indomitable as the sun. As integral to me as the lattice of marrow within my bones. And I love you, lille mejer."

"So thank you, Jack. You showed me that the sun could still shine, even on the coldest days."

"You told me once I should grovel. You didn’t say when I should stop."

"You know how to make me fucking feral, petal."

𝔚𝔥𝔢𝔯𝔢 𝔴𝔢 𝔩𝔲𝔯𝔨, 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔡𝔞𝔯𝔨𝔫𝔢𝔰𝔰 𝔞𝔩𝔴𝔞𝔶𝔰 𝔣𝔦𝔫𝔡𝔰 𝔲𝔰.

About two serial killers who hate each other and suddenly become a team because something from their past comes and haunts them again.

Jack He's a forensic anthropologist who is also a serial killer. Jack's character was actually very interesting at the beginning, but then he just became boring towards the end because I wanted to know his background and how he ended up like he is now; it's really left unanswered and very dissatisfied. And to be honest, I want to see more of the creepy, "killer" side of him because it seems lacking here.

𝙎𝙝𝙚’𝙨 𝙖 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙧.
𝘼 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧.

Kyrie She's a wildlife biologist. I really liked Kyrie. She's such a badass and crazy. I love how she chose her victims; it's just so satisfying to see.

Ok, so here's the problem, in the first half I enjoyed it. I ate every single banter and hatred they have towards each other; it was so funny and unhinged. But the moment they got together, which happened so damn fast, everything just meh and went downhill. I was so cringed by every single sex scenes, I don't even want to talk about the sleeping beauty thing.
I love crazy storylines with crazy characters, but when the pace suddenly changes and the plot just goes away, it becomes such a turndown.

Shoutout to the amazing lovely Rebecca for reading this with me love ya babess<33

This twisted love nurtured in the dark belongs only to us.

What.
Did.
I.
Just.
Read?

But the most important questions is why did I like it as much as I did? Ok so rhetorical question really. I do tend to read some pretty dark and f*cked up books, and this one certainly fit the bill nicely. I'm not even a little surprised that I loved it as much as I did. But on a darkness scale of 1 to f*cked up, this one was on a FUBAR level. And I'm obsessed.
Is this your weak attempt at seduction, Jack?”
He leans a fraction closer, his arm mere millimeters from my shoulder. “If I wanted to seduce you, I’d have you on your knees right now in the cold room with that treacherous little mouth of yours wrapped around my cock, begging me for more,” he whispers.

How do I even describe this book to you? Imagine if Dexter and Mindf*ck had a love child, then it would be this book. I've read my fair share of dark serial killer romance, but it's not often you get not one but two in the mix. And Kyrie was the other half to Jack.
You’re not a girl,” I say, my tone bordering on lethal. “You’re an irritating inconvenience that is begging to have her ass reddened.”
Her pupils dilate. “And don’t you just hate how much that excites you.”

Kyrie is a brilliant wildlife biologist who is sick of trying to prove her worth to the renowned forensic anthropologist who seems to find her no more than a nuisance. But Kyrie knows something about Jack that no one else does; his darkest secret. Their paths so interwoven, they walk the same path. But where Jack's was one he was born into, Kyrie was made into hers.

When I tell you I devoured this book, I'm not even kidding. I cringed, I sweated, I lusted, I was entirely obsessed. And don't even get me started on Jack's piercings, because GOD DAMN. But I digress. This combined two things I love most, dark romance and a psychological thriller. It was brilliantly interwoven into a fast paced, dark and twisty tale that I couldn't seem to get enough of. These two authors are absolutely brilliant together and I need, no I demand, more from this duo. Because I am so hooked. And if you're a fan of super dark romance, then you seriously cannot miss this one.

Din skide gudinde. Du dræber mig…
Translation: You fucking goddess. You kill me…

What do you get when two of your favourite authors co-write a book?
Perfection.

Not a surprise that marrow is my first five star read of the year. I mean, we're talking about Trisha and Brynne over here-Hellloo??? Are we even surprised? *starry eyes*  Hell I'd even read their grocery lists at this point.

*breaths in deeply*
Where do I even start from?
I could honestly non-stop sing Trisha's and Brynne's praises forever, we get the point.

By the time we’re standing at the gates of damnation, Jack Sorensen will beg me to throw him to the Devil. I will paint our path to Hell with his blood.

Lord, mercy.
I inhaled this book like anything.

Kyrie could throw me to the devil or wherever she wanted and I'd still thank her for that.

You’re a part of me, soldered to my very fucking bones.

I loved the characters, both of them unique in their own way.
Their bond and the understanding between them was endearing.
Their chemistry? Off the charts.
But the cherry on top was definitely their banter and humour, that stuff right there actually had me grinning and wheezing.

▪▪“Tell me every terrible thing you ever did, and let me love you anyway.”
― Sade Andria Zabala
▪▪

I had this quote in my mind the entire time I was reading the story and I think it fits them both perfectly.

“Lille mejer,” Jack whispers into my ear. I’m not here to claim anyone but you.”

Jack and his lille mejer.
*sighs*

All in all, I loved every single thing about this book. Though, comparatively to Brynne and Trisha's other books it wasn't much heavy on the plot. But compelling, nevertheless.

However, one thing that did bother me was the OM part.
I really wasn't fan of the all too detailed sex scene between Kyrie and the OM, especially since she'd already met Jack before, it was a major turn off. For me atleast. And just a heads up for those allergic to OM parts/scenes.
Nonetheless, I loved this book to the core.

“Are you running away from me, Dr. Sorensen?”

On that note, I'll be running to re-read it again.

Unhinged. Psychotic. Dark. Twisted. Little to no plot but I still had an okay time watching two insane serial killers fall in love. Nothing to scream from the rooftops about though. I honestly don’t even remember what I just read.

4.5 I-wasn’t-ready-for-the-obsession stars

Y’all might look at the cover and think “omg. Those flowers are beautiful; I want some.”

But let me tellllll you… you won’t be able to buy them at the store… because the hero BRED them to match the heroine’s eye color 🥹🫶.

That’s right 🫶. He’s over here creating new life just to resemble his obsession’s eyes 😭.

Awww Jack 🥹🫶❤️ you got my hyoid bone invested 🫠.

Kyrie (27) and Jack (34) are enemies 😅. They’ve been working together for 3 years now at a body farm- a farm where they study how bodies decompose 😅. What a perfect cover up 🤣.

Side note: I can’t even imagine the amount of research Brynne and Trisha had to do 🤣 oh to be a fly on the wall to see all those google searches 👀🤣.

Back to the book… Because of their jobs, Jack’s able to *disguise* his side gig… his life as a serial killer 😅.

What’s ALSO interesting is the fact that Kyrie’s ALSO a serial killer 😳

So not only are they trying to one up each other at work, they’re also doing it on the side 🤣, and yet… they’re also

SECRETLY OBSESSED WITH EACH OTHER 👀

They might be the completely opposite of each other (she’s sunshiny, he’s a grump; she’s the sun, he’s the moon; she’s ying and he’s yang… you get my point 🤣), but that doesn’t stop them from wanting to rip off each other’s clothes…

Let the delicious 🔥 tension begin 😉.

What I liked/loved: possible spoilers
—the swooning I did 🫠. Listen. I know it doesn’t make sense 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I couldn’t help but melt throughout the book. Yes. Jack’s a grump. Yes. He can be an a hole, but my gosh, he can be so sweet 🥹. He breeds flowers to get EVERY. NUANCE from Kyrie’s eyes to match them 😭. Like. Seriously??? 😭🥹🫠 how isn’t this so swoon? 🥹❤️. Who does that???
An obsessive sweet serial killer, that’s who 😭

—the 🔥. Uffff. It was 🥵. They have their first kiss at about 36% and then full on 🔥before 50% 🫠 and let me tell you? It’s haaaaaaawt 😅💦🥵 (we’ll ignore the blood around them 🤣)

—somno 👀. It was 😮‍💨. Jack timed it just right too (this was CNC)

—JACKhasJACOBSladderANDthenSOME 👀🔥

—how obsessed Jack is with servicing 😉 Kyrie 💦. Love me a man who’s dedicated to this 👏🏻

—he calls her Lille meje (little reaper)

—he speaks Danish to her 🫶 “Jeg vil være alt for dig, elskede,” (I will be everything to you, love). Gaaaaahhhhh 🫠

—their background ☹️ more specially hers ☹️. Ughhhh… I was so emotional! I felt not only the pain Kyrie was experiencing, but her parents too 😭. This part was triggering… her dad trying to save her, trying to get her to be okay and have the serial killer leave her alone (before he ended up killing both of her parents) was just heart wrenching ☹️😭. I didn’t love this, but I felt her pain, the gut wrenching emotion 😭

—how perfect Jack finds her ❤️ even her scars 🫶

—not me crying for a coyote 😭😭😭😭. It showed Kyrie’s humanity

—the connection Jack and Kyrie have ❤️ past and present 🫶

—dual JPPPPPP 👏🏻. But I really loved it when it came out of Jack 👀. No Sebastian. You may not touch her with your dirty, abusive hands 💁🏻‍♀️💅

—how she knows her smile annoys him, so she smiles harder 🤣🤣🤣🤣

—being protective of each other 😅👀. These two can pretend all they want, but they really have each others’ back 🤣 secretly 👀

What I didn’t like/wanted more of: SPOILERS
—I’m not the biggest fan of doing 🔥 while being covered in other’s blood 😅. But that’s just me 🤣

—a vasectomy? 😭 but I want some babies 😭

—while I understood why “the bad guy” had to be un a lived at the end, I still felt bad 😬. I was hoping we had more dirt on him 🤡 just to make me feel better 🤣

—more of their pasts, especially his 😅. He doesn’t seem like a man hooooar, but I wanted to know for sure 😅 (and other parts too lol not just that).

Overall, I luuuuurved it ❤️

༺ 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐖 ༺ Is a dark psychological romance book co written by Trisha Wolfe & Brynne Weaver. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

This was one I was anticipating like no other book, from the synopsis to the cover, throw in the added bonus of Trisha Wolfe and I knew I'd be in for one hell of a ride.

I'm not going to lie, for me this did take me a bit to get into, pushing through once I reached about the halfway mark it all came together and I found my groove and from that point onwards I inhaled it.

Honestly I've never come across any two characters like these two, Dr. Jack Sorenson is a forensic anthropologist and Dr. Kyrie Roth is a wildlife biologist co-workers at West Paine University for the last three years.

These two are at odds with each other, they have an inkling that they are bred from the same cloth, cold blooded killers then when they create a competition amongst themselves to see which one gets to keep their hunting ground (thunderdome) is when things started to pick up. It gets darker, spicer, the suspense goes up a notch and I was in my happy place enjoying how everything unfolded.

please check out the tw, my sanity is gone and i’ll never be the same. if you’re looking for a (dark) romance between two serial killers, you’re in the perfect place. i don’t know how Trisha does it, but she knows damn well how to write an unhinged, yet so, so, so attractive book men.

i’ve loved every page, every sentence, every single word. this book had literally everything i ever wanted — two batshit crazy (and yet so intelligent, charismatic and funny — i’m looking at you, Kyrie) main characters, the who hurt you trope, the i hate you, but i’ll go insane if you ever hurt yourself trope, the “i’d burn the whole world for you”? and the tension? i devoured it and it wasn’t enough, i need more immediately.

i’m hopelessly in love with Jack — that man is everything and so much more.

“But even worse than his words is his touch. His kiss is seared deep into my marrow. He claimed my mouth like a man starved of light and hope. His touch was a reverential progression of worship across my flesh and bone.”

i’m so jealous of Kyrie, i’m going completely insane. where do i sign up? where do i get a Jack for myself? where can i find a man who plants flowers the same color as my eyes because he’s so obsessed with me? who calls me a lille mejer? and don’t even come at me, i’m well aware how fucked up they both were, but i’m all in. i don’t care at all, they were simply a perfection and i’ll never recover. i’m so fucking gone, Jack is probably one of my favorite book men ever and i violently need more than just one book.

“She tangled herself in my web, and I’ll have to carve her out of me to remove her now. She’s in so deep, fused to my bones. If that day ever comes, that loss will resonate down to the core of me. I will have no desire to survive without her.”

i’ll end it here, since i’m tempted to mention every single thing i loved — and that would just spoil the whole book.

“But you are right, lille mejer. You are indomitable. You are both the warmth of the sun and the destruction of its consuming fire.”

"...we only wanted to kill and potentially frame one other for murder some of the time..."

Is it cold in here??! These authors are sav.a.ges! Remind me not to get ANY of them upset. Marrow is a dark romance lovers dream and you're going to find yourself wondering if you need real help because you're enjoying the book a little too much or if you were already messed up to begin with.

tenor-4

Dr Kyrie Roth has spent most of her career trying to prove her worth. She’s a brilliant wildlife biologist and she’s earned her spot as one of the best and if you have a problem with that, then that’s on you. When her rival with forensic anthropologist Dr. Jack Sorenson takes a turn and war is silently declared, the deadly games that were once played have now taken a serious turn with them having to work together.

When-Time-Get-Down-Business

I knew this was going to be a dark read but I was not prepared to pull out my flashlight! These characters were something else and I was desperately trying to find some type of light within them but let me tell you something….

idk-smh

I didn't know what I was going to encounter as the chapters flew by and quite frankly these characters scared the crap out of me! They were messy, selfish at times and down to the core psychopaths but they were also passionate, selfless and fierce protectors. I loved that this was a different psychological thriller and we were shown the ins and outs. I will admit that I was expecting certain things to play out differently and I needed more of a cat and mouse game but overall, these authors delivered an excellent thriller that had me on edge the entire time.

I highly recommend this one if you're a dark romance fan.

⋆。°✩༉‧₊˚🕯️🖤❀༉‧₊˚.❦. If you love to read dark romance, you have to read Marrow now.

If you're familiar with Trisha and Brynne's novels, you know that they're very much intriguing, fabulous, and romantic. Marrow is so much more. Like??? The level of shock I was in SO MANY SCENES. I was silently screaming throughout the whole book tbh. This book took me in this wild ride, that's for sure. You definitely need to take in mind this is a dark romance, so there's a lot of stuff going on that you might find uncomfortable. Check out the content warnings at the beginning of the book!

It was so good. I mean, this book is about rival serial killers who want to kill each other or incriminate each other. THEY REALLY HATE EACH OTHER! But you know, under that hate lies an attraction and they really want each other - they hate that they want each other tho lmao so it's so fun to read about. But when a figure of Kyrie's past appears once again, she must trust and team up with Jack in order to defeat a bigger evil.

Also I adore that this book has the grumpy/sunshine trope?!!! I MEAN. I've never seen that in characters like this lmao so it definitely is a new experience. Kyrie is so unhinged and wild. There's this scene at the beginning where Jack finds her digging a hole to bury a dead body inside and she waves both arms of the dead man (the severed arms) like she's waving hello to Jack lmao she's the best, I love her personality and the way she is. You'll care for her super quickly! Jack is the grumpy one and very stoic. He hardly cares about people and doesn't really smiles. But he's hardcore obsessed with Kyrie and it's so AMAZING to see the development.

I told Brynne I wanted a series of them just doing their thing and being in danger and saving each other and living their best life together in love lmao. It would be so interesting idk!

I tried to read it twice, the second time the story somehow drew me in, but I couldn't convince myself to finish it. It's been sitting on my kindle for about two months, so I don't think I'll reach for it again.

I was really excited to read it because, Hello? Two serial killers in love? Hell yes, but i didn’t like it, at all. Two starts, because it wasn’t exactly bad, but just wasn’t for me.

I love the idea of a dark romance where rival serial killers fight over a territory but the writing and plot of Marrow left me unsatisfied. I can absolutely believe our two MCs fell for each other with the amount of tension and banter in the beginning, but, as soon as they act on their chemistry, their undying love is so instant. For a serial killer who supposedly feels nothing, the MMC sure was infatuated right away. Maybe my expectations were too high after reading Butcher and Blackbird, but I wanted some contrast in the story; something light or exciting to balance out the dark. I also think it was weird how there was a serious imbalance to the characters and how fleshed out they were, the FMC got a complete backstory and her personality was showcased, but the MMC was bland and we barely get anything on his history. I just feel like Marrow didn't deliver what it could have, I found the whole book boring and slow.

What's better than a serial killer dark romance?
A dark romance featuring two serial killers.

"...we only wanted to kill and potentially frame one other for murder some of the time..."

That's the state of affairs between Kyrie and Jack, rival serial killers who work in academia together.

The tension between these two is so thick and delicious. The chemistry? Off the charts. Not to mention their banter is some of the quickest and wittiest I've read in a while.

"Must you always test my limits, Dr. Roth?" My smile is as bright as the sun in a desert sky. "Yes," I whisper around the tightening pressure of Jack's hand. "Always."

Their relationship evolves from disdain to all-consuming so beautifully. Not to mention the writing is stunning! I love the way the character's internal debates and feelings are written:

Kyrie: "I am the sun whose light reflects on his cold, remote mask. And I am the celestial fire that will destroy him"

And Jack: "She owns me. Every fiber of my being, every cell coursing through my marrow, she is the one dominating me, and I'm simply the depraved monster subservient to her commands"

Kyrie is a phenomenal FMC. I support women's rights just as much as I support this woman's wrongs. She's gone through some serious trauma and has darkness within her, but masks it with a smile and bubbly personality. Her ability to camouflage herself, to make herself seem less threatening when she's a wolf in sheep's clothing? Spectacular. And the way she playfully terrorizes Jack? Chef's freaking kiss.

Jack on the other hand, is a dark force to be reckoned with. He's aloof, purposefully so, but taken completely unawares by his bubbly colleague. He hates that he's drawn to her and I was living for the way his thoughts progressed from denial to acceptance. The things this man says had me in a literal puddle:

"Any man who even imagines touching you will be sliced into ribbons of flesh...and then I will fuck you in a pool of blood while their heart still drums its final beats"

"I don't think I've ever heard anything as sweet as your begging, petal. Do it again."

Ugh, brb. Gotta go stand in front of my fridge for a second.

Delectable tension aside, I thought the unraveling of the plot and the history of these two was well done! The main conflict was a bit predictable, but I've always been the type to focus on the journey rather than the destination type of reader.

Also not to be dramatic, but that third act conflict? I was a sobbing MESS. Did I expect to cry when reading a spicy serial killer dark romance? No. And that makes this book that much more excellent.

Marrow comes out March 23, 2023 and I highly, highly recommend it if you like:

-hand necklaces
-somnophilia and kinky smut
-witty banter
-"who did this to you"
-hero with a pierced dick
-strong fmc
-mmc who says terms of endearment to fmc in a different language.
-compelling tension and relationship

Thank you to Brynne Weaver and Trisha Wolfe for this advanced reader copy. All thoughts are my own.

This was perfection. Very dark rival serial killers that have to work together because a rogue FBI agent is after them. I loved their chemistry together and just how obsessed they both were with each other.

he’s so obsessed but “hates” her even though since they met 3 years ago he has been infatuated with her blue eyes. So infatuated that he started growing ONLY blue flowers in his greenhouse for 3 years!!!

This is very dark with some heavy triggers. The author has a very comprehensive list at the start of the book if you’d like to check those out.

3.75/5🌶️

Genre: Dark Romance
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

For three years Dr. Kyrie Roth endured Dr. Jack Sorensen’s unwarranted contempt. When someone who could hinder both of their future prospects came sniffing, they realized they were bound by the same string and could either thrive together or destroy each other.

I loved both Kyrie and Jack and their background stories. Their banters and rivalry was entertaining. And most importantly, they did not change who they were inside.

He wants to find my weaknesses and crush me with them. And what better way to destroy a person than to fill their heart and then crack it in half.

This book was a delight to me as someone who loves unapologetic characters, with both of them fitting the category. The plot was engaging and I loved how their positions in society made it even more interesting. It centered on a dark subject but with plenty of amusing moments.

Marrow is a story of dominance and liberation. It would appeal to readers who enjoy dark enemies to lovers romance.

___my thoughts___
i went into this book blind and if you don't have any triggers, i suggest the same. at around 300 pages, marrow is a quick, easy read. i was expecting a dark toxic relationship but i thought jack×kyrie's romance was sooo sweet. their smut was hot af or shall i say ❄️cold❄️. i f*cking loved everything about them and can't wait to reread it.

things i didn't like:
okay, i really wish it was longer so we could have more of everything. at times, it felt like a novella.
× specifically more background regarding the plot, main characters & villain would have been nice.

_______
og goodreads review:
this was was so f*cking good.

i just wish it was longer. i wanted more of EVERYTHING.
