Billionaires of Manhattan #2

The Billionaire’s Wake-up-call Girl

Rate this book
When my manager assigns me the task of finding a new wake up call service for our CEO, I think, how hard can this be?

Answer: practically impossible. It turns out that no wake-up call company in the world will take him on as a client. They’ve all had enough of his surly personality.

So in an effort not to lose my job, I secretly start making the calls myself, every day at 4:30 am sharp. OMG yes you read that right—four freaking thirty in the morning.

Confession: I’m not the nicest wake-up-call girl at that hour. Hello! Who wakes up before the roosters are even crowing? Luckily he doesn’t seem to mind my get-your-ass-out-of-bed attitude.

Day by day we’re becoming closer, and the calls start turning hot, like pay-by-the-minute hot and oh-so-wild. Snuggled under the covers with the moonlight streaming in the windows, we divulge our secrets to each other, but the one thing that he can never find out is that the sexy vixen who wakes him up every morning is just the lowly assistant who wears frumpy dresses. I can only imagine his disappointment.

Now he wants to take me out on a date and he’s scouring Manhattan to find me. He’s an overachieving billionaire bent on a mission. How much longer can I keep up this charade?

The Billionaire’s Wake Up Call Girl is my very first book by Annika Martin and let me just say that I am in love. This book got me from the very first page. I loved the Hero and heroine both equally. And even though this was a romantic comedy, it had me all twisted up. Yes I know in my heart these are going to end in a HEA. But I was so worried about these two and how this was all going to be worked out. I didn’t want to stop reading!

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Cooper had everything going for her. She had started a small bakery which was flourishing. And she had fallen in love. Only the man she gave her heart to took a lot more than just her heart. He took her for everything. Now the bakery is closed, she is in debt up to her eyeballs, and a lone shark is showing up at her door with a gun. So, she took a short term job working on the online presence for a pharmaceutical company. If she can keep the job for just one month, she will get a large bonus that will satisfy the lone shark. Just one month! She can do that right?

Theo Drummond is CEO of Vossameer. Theo is known for a product he invented but is also known for his surly attitude. He runs his company in a no frills fashion. He wants everyone to concentrate on their duties, not on what he deems frivolous things.

sexy man in a lab coat

The first time Lizzie actually meets Theo, there is something there, eyes meet and hold, electricity sparks. Lizzie isn’t the only one that notices though. Her supervisor, Sasha, picks up on it and doesn’t like it. Lizzie is off men, she needs to keep this job, so she decides to do whatever it takes to make her boss NOT notice her. Wear frumpy clothes, no eye contact, whatever she has to do to keep this job so she can get her bonus.

“His hotness has its own force. It has its own gravity. It has its own zip code, miles past the neighborhood of stop staring and deep in the religious experience of beauty zone.”

For some reason Theo doesn’t use normal alarm clocks to wake him up at 4:30 in the morning. He uses a wake up service. Only no one will have him. He’s run them all off. It seems he’s not the most friendly in the morning. Lizzie is tasked with finding him a new service but when no one will take the job, she decides to do it herself. How hard could it be? Only things don’t exactly start out on the right foot. But that something is still there, even though Theo doesn’t know who she is, that zing is there over the phone. Their morning conversations become personal, secrets are whispered and soon their talk turns hot, sizzling hot. Theo wants to know who she is, he wants to know her. But Lizzie isn’t sharing.

woman on the phone in bed

“This woman. I need more of her. I need to know her. I have to find her. And the answer is out there. I’ll crack this puzzle like I crack every other puzzle. I’ll find her name. I’ll find her address. I’ll find her.”

Oh my gosh, that right there should have you one clicking like crazy. These two! The secondary characters were amazing as well. Both Lizzie’s roommate, Mia, and Theo’s sister, Willow, were so much fun.

sexy

This book was perfection. It was fun, sweet, sexy as heck, and like I said before, it had me all tied up as Theo tried everything to figure out the identity of his wake up call girl and Lizzie prepared for the day when the lone shark was going to come knocking and she wouldn’t have the money. I love it when I try a book by a new to me author and fall in love like this. I’m already looking through her other books to see which one I want to try next.

Funny and safe.

I wasn't a fan of the beginning of their story.
The 2nd part of the book was better.

My 2 personal highlights about the hero:

1) His scent: melon and pepper...
melon and pepper <???&???>

2) His wonderfully cucumbery cock...

Title: ➳ ❤- The Billionaire’s Wake-up-call Girl
Author: ➳ Annika Martin

Publication:, July 9th 2018

ღ Annika Martin has another winner on her hands! If you're looking for a romantic comedy you have come to the right place

➳ I read half this book on my way home on the train. I got tons of dirty looks from people, cuz I couldn’t contain myself- this was definitely one of those laugh-out-loud kinda books
To say the least Lizzie & Theo might be opposite’s personality, but they somehow just fix

➳ Lizzy is one of those loud & obnoxious type people & she seems to be having trouble adjust to the stiff environment of her new job at Vossameer Inc.

➳ See Lizzy was hire as new social media manager. If Lizzy just only make past her 30 day trial period, so she can earn her $12,000 bonus fee. That will solve so many of Lizzy financial issues, only trouble is her boss Sasha

➳ Things get really interesting when Lizzy is ask asked to find a wake-up call girl for her exacting, control freak CEO,

➳Let’s just say Theo Drummon is a sexy reclusive genius Billionaire & leave at that

➳ I can't praise this book enough. I loved everything about it. The writing is to the point without excruciating details. The characters are believable, likeable & relatable. The plot is fresh

➦ 💕 would I recommend this book: Hell Yes
📚 Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion & my honest review 💕

You know i was hoping this book is full of cute sweet, sassy, clever and smart banter. I mean imagine the person who gives u a wake up call is actually your soul mate. But what i got is mix. Yes the first half i got all of that sassy smart mouth sexy sweet banter. Then it wading down.

Down down the rabbit hole. To finally nowhere. It seems the author loses her mojo/idea how to make the story more interesting after the characters get together. There is no plot or layer of complexion on the story on the second half. Just a boring sex. Not even explosive.

Overall i do enjoy the book on the first half.

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Cooper, 27, only has to stick out her new job for 30 days to earn the sign-on bonus she desperately needs. Then she can escape the strange world of Vossameer Inc. and its elusive Oz like owner.

“Everyone here is obsessed with Mr. Drummond. They seem to regard him the way the ancient regarded gods that controlled the weather and plagues.”

Theo Drummond is preoccupied with cracking the chemical solution to another life-saving medical invention. That is till he’s preoccupied with his new wake-up caller.

“‘Wake up, motherfucker’”

Lizzie has spirit, and she’s determined to be self sufficient. After being screwed over in her last relationship, she’s weary of making the same mistake. That doesn’t stop her though from taking some wild risks that fuel the comedic element in this romcom.

“I had phone sex with my boss at 4:30 in the morning and now I’m in a prairie dress impersonating a wake-up-call service.”

Theo rocks the aloof and surly CEO image in the opening chapters from Lizzie’s POV, but once the story reaches his perspective it’s clear he has integrity and determination. Their opposites attract romance has just the right amount of heart and depth.

“In chemistry, just the smallest adjustment—the addition of one atom—can be the difference between inertness and an explosion. We have that something. We really are combustible.”

Oh and there’s their sexual chemistry too!

“It’s just by the sheer backward recitations of the periodic table that I’m not losing it like a schoolboy at first fuck. But I’m not making it longer just for myself. I love concentrating on her pleasure. I could do it forever.”

Told via Lizzie and Theo’s first person POVs, the narrative is witty and entertaining, and the premise as it played out gave me quite a few out-loud chuckles. Lizzie’s descriptions of the company and employees in the opening chapters were colorful and engaging. I did, however, pause at several points and consider contracting the Dragusha brothers to handle Sasha. ;-) But for the most part the story only left me craving one thing…. I’ll be in the kitchen baking before I start my next book.

Now this is what I’m talking about! I loved absolutely every single thing about this book. It begins with an enemies to lovers trope, added in a boss and employee set up, and finishes up in the most amazing way!

I am addicted to romances with a touch of humor, a lot of steam and a heroine who is strong and feisty. But most of all I’m drawn to heroes who are a bit of an a-hole and that once they meet the “one” they will do anything to have her. That doesn’t necessarily mean they lose the a-holery, but they learn to use it in a whole new way. And that is exactly who and what Theo was.

When Lizzie gives Theo the dressing down he deserves he is pulled from his constant thoughts of chemical formulas and thrown into a tailspin on how to find this impudent woman. What follows is a chase for the record books. And that is just the icing on the cookie. Their relationship was so fun to watch, their chemistry completely believable as were their conflicts.

This has all the ingredients for the most perfect read and I’ll be adding it to my reread list even while I search out other books in this series.

Review & Excerpt at Of Pens and Pages.

The Billionaire’s Wake-up-call Girl is taking dirty talk to a whole new level. You want a grumpy hero with a wicked mouth on him, and a fantastic heroine you’ll love and admire? You can have that with this book.

It’s hot, funny, and hard to put down! This is my second read from Ms. Martin, and I have to say she’s becoming my favorite. I love the humor, the tone, the pace, and the characters! There’s a hint of angst that tugs at your heartstrings, just enough to make things juicier.

We have Lizzie Cooper, a 27-year-old woman working hard into cleaning up the mess her controlling and swindling ex left her to handle. She also wants to get back on her feet soon and reopen her old bakery. With the promise of a generous sign-in bonus if you last thirty days at the job, she gets into the gig of working on the social media presence of an otherwise old-school pharmaceuticals company. She needs that sign-in bonus, and she’ll do everything to stay on the job, even wake up at 4:30 AM to wake up the CEO.

Theo Drummond has no time for frivolities. He just needs to work on his project, therefore helping others, and that’s how he wants the company to work. With the new girl distracting him, he’s not the best person to wake up in the morning, and now, all of the wake-up-call agencies have given up on him. But this new wake-up-call girl his employee got for him on Craigslist, the sassy mouth with the husky voice, is certainly doing things to him. He needs to meet her, but seems like sassy mouth doesn’t.

They both have plans, and this, whatever this is, isn’t a part of it. Lizzie plans to move back to her parents’ to regroup and save up before starting up her bakery, and Theo needs to figure out the problem he’s been trying hard to solve. So, how will their burgeoning feelings for each other fall into the equation?

The chemistry is on point, constantly building up as Lizzie and Theo started their interactions to when Theo started insisting on meeting her, to finally coming face-to-face. Lizzie is an admirable character with a lot of sass and fire. Theo is mysterious, a little surly and a bit of an a-hole at first, but he’s a teddy bear. I love him. Plus, that mouth on him!

I had a lot of fun reading The Billionaire’s Wake-up-call Girl. If you’re looking for a funny and steamy office romance, you might like it too!

The set ups are so silly, but the feelings of giddy and snark, and sexy are so real. Might be my least favorite of the series, but still a lot of fun. If you like Dare's HR, this kinda reminds me of that level of fairy tale. Martin has a way of feeding you surface sparkle then diving into river bottoms with a clever or beautiful turn of phrase.

Reread on September 17, 2022: Loved the narrators. Read via audio (narrated by Jason Clarke and Neva Nevarre).

***

First read on October 3, 2020: I liked this way more than I expected. I mean, it’s totally ridiculous but I guess I was in the mood for ridiculous. I wouldn’t say the book is amazing, but it’s strangely comforting in a bananas way. I thrive on hijinks and books that make me go WTF. The new cartoon cover rebrand sucks and doesn’t fit the book; the old blue cover is far more fitting, tone-wise.

I’m also super amused because the hero is not actually a billionaire as the title indicates. It says so in the blurb and series name, but he’s continuously called a millionaire in the text. I have to ask: is making millions in Manhattan not enough of a problematic capitalist-fueled fantasy for readers? False advertising, I say! I want my money back! 🤣

I’m kidding, I’m kidding. I am easily amused! Makes me feel better anyway, ethically-speaking. Billionaires are a tough sell in today’s economy.

Also: yay me for reading a book right after buying it on sale. Miracles do happen.

While this is second in a series, there isn't much cross-over at all. I mean, Henry and Vicky show up, but near the end and in a completely ancillary capacity. And while Theo was in the first book, it was, like, a single dinner scene and not really needed for this one. So you can totally read this one first if you like and not miss or spoil anything.

The cover for this thing is pretty bad, but the copy lets you know enough what you're getting that the overall marketing isn't terrible. I mean, Theo smiling and all loosey-goosey? Yeah, that's not a thing with him. Anyway, this is obviously a wish-fulfillment fantasy romance and Theo fits very well into that category as the no-nonsense sciencey guy who is very driven and evidence based and a bit tyrannical but not really mean or vindictive. I liked him well-enough as the emotionally-damaged guy who is finding his way to more humanity.

And I liked Lizzie as his entrée into broadening his scope to include the ridiculous, human, and emotional as worthy of consideration. Her background was a bit extreme, but I shrugged it in under the wish-fulfillment rubric; the story needed her desperation to let her fly under his radar in the real world so he could attach during their wake-up-call interactions. And I really liked those interactions. I liked how she piqued his curiosity by being a mystery he wanted to solve. And I liked how she pushed back on him and didn't let him get away with casual dismissal or overbearance.

And I even liked how they connected at first in their sex dominance play and how there was nothing submissive even in surrender. Which was a surprise because usually when an author "goes there", they tend to go the submissive route on the flip side and that wouldn't have let these two characters bond anywhere near so easily or closely. He needed the push-back and she needed someone who took her seriously enough to take the trouble to see her the way only he would bother with. Martin did an incredible job making that multi-layered and in a way that led to the kind of intimacy that built their relationship beyond its starting point.

The only real bone I have to pick with the story is the Sasha character. She was too successful in the marplot role for someone who was basically an incompetent schemer. This was particularly threadbare near the end where she shows up just long enough to throw that final wrench into their developing plans (using information that there's no way she could have known). So while I loved the mistake and forgiveness cycle that proceeded from there, its catalyst was unsatisfying.

Anyway, this was a solid 4½ stars that I'm rounding to five on the strength of the unique relationship dynamic that worked very well for the characters I liked so well. The ending had all the right feelz and I was very satisfied with how it turned out.

A note about Steamy: There are three explicit sex scenes (and a summary/gloss/almost-not-quite of another few) putting this at the high side of my middle steam tolerance. It was a vital part of their relationship building so they were completely necessary (or, at least, the first two were anyway). So kudos for how well they were constructed despite being on the unusual and/or adventurous side through the dominance aspects of it.

I wanted to give it 2.5. But, I think new comers to sexy romcoms would definitely appreciate it.

The story is actually, just the name of the book: The Billionaire's Wake UP Call Girl: The lead wakes up the lead everyday. I bet you think who needs wake up calls these days, right? I think so too. But, in a way, this worked for the novel.

I liked the fun parts in the start. But, I didn't think of the lead as much grumpy, to be honest. So, why couldn't he hold off other wake up girls? The ex-boyfriend drama should've been edited as well.

Aside from that, It's a decent book, a nice one-time read.

DNF'ed at 36%. I'm sorry, how are the reviews for this so overwhelmingly glowing? I was expecting a cute, slow-burn enemies-to-lovers. What did I get? Sexual harassment. Like, I'm sorry, rich man hires a company to provide wake up calls to him. The third call he gets (all lasting minutes, if not seconds) and he goes right to a "what are you wearing?" Did anything this employee say anything to indicate that she was interested in having phone sex with you during the routine performance of her fully-not-sexual job? The fact that it's written as a romance and that the girl is somehow into it doesn't make it appropriate or NOT harassment.

Attention Reader Friends: STOP what you're doing and Read This Book NOW!!!!

I'm not kidding. This isn't just the best romantic comedy I've read in a while, it's the best romance I've read in a while. It's smart and funny and super sexy and the FEELS!!!! It has ALL the FEELS... I laughed, I swooned, I cried a little... It's just that good.

Theo is the swooniest hero, he's all scientific and laser-focused and dirty and bossy, but wounded and driven by guilt... (My heart!) Lizzie is his perfect match with her sassy, sweet, hilarious ways. Her first few wakeup calls literally had me laughing out loud... I'm actually giggling again remembering #2. And her funny cookies commemorating weird occasions... high five day, bathtub day, and the baby goats... eeek!

Seriously, do yourself a favor and read this now. It's just an amazing romance. You will be so happy you did. Love Love LOVE!!!

The Billionaire’s Wake-up-call Girl was amazing, loved it, loved every second of it .
This book is what I call the full package in romance, it has everything, smart and strong and vulnerable characters, great chemistry, hilarious moments, really hot sex, heartfelt moments, the pacing was great, didn't skip a word, the conversations between characters were fun and all served the plot, the twists and turns played very well.
I enjoyed the banter between MCs so much, I laughed and smiled, and chapter after another, i felt more and more for both of them, they were amazing, individually and more so together!
What else to say, this book was Utterly entertaining.

“It’s beautiful to trust. It’s beautiful to open your heart.”

Annika Martin, thank you for the giggles, thank you for the swoons! And thank you for bringing us a steamy, entertaining and fabulous feel-good enemies to lovers’ romantic comedy that left us smiling and falling in love with a funny and engaging heroine, and a smart, sexy and cantankerous hero.

We’ve only ever experienced the darker, grittier side to Annika Martin, and wondered how we’d fair with the light-hearted romance The Billionaires Wake-Up-Call Girl, and well, we’re happy to report Annika Martin is as talented with the wit as she is with the grit! We adored this book!

‘In chemistry, just the smallest adjustment—the addition of one atom—can be the difference between inertness and an explosion. We have that something. We really are combustible.’

Lizzie Cooper is 27, had a very successful bakery, until her ex-boyfriend Mason hot-footed it leaving in Lizzie in a pile of debt, owing money to some very seedy and dangerous loan sharks. Lizzie has a short time to pay up, and in desperation, takes a job as an assistant to the bitchy Social Media Manager at Vossameer, a very successful company run by the tyrannical Theo Drummond. Not only does Lizzie has to contend with her Manager Sasha’s constantly stealing her ideas, and her sniping, but she has to work in the regimented Vossameer where fun is a swear word and her creativity is stifled by Theo’s unwillingness to have a human side projected in the company’s social media. But, it’s worth putting up with the bland tight ship environment because Lizzie is six days off earning a big signing bonus that will go a long way to paying off some of her inherited debts.

Theo Drummond is the swoony, sexy, intelligent and successful chemist and CEO responsible for inventing a lifesaving product that stems the blood flow. He’s an uptight control freak, a workaholic, on the cusp of discovering another lifesaving invention and he doesn’t need any distraction.

Theo can always find a solution to everything. Nothing is unsolvable. Except for the exquisite Lizzie who turns out to also be the sassy wakeup call girl hired to wake him up at 4.30am every morning with hilarious outcomes. Theo is used to people hanging on his every word, being agreeable and quaking in his presence. But not Lizzie. She sasses him, talks back to him when no one else would dare. Lizzie confounds him. What is it about this woman that makes the impenetrable prickly Theo crumble?

‘With or without glasses, he’s the most dramatically, effusively, wildly handsome man I’ve ever seen. His hotness has its own force. It has its own gravity.’

This book was so much fun! Theo was divine! Seriously…this gorgeous geek who seemed so prim and proper had the naughtiest mouth you could imagine. Theo was ridiculously hot! The banter was spot on, the snark hilarious, and Lizzie’s friend Mia added, even more, laugh out loud moments.

‘This nameless, faceless woman who was so easy to talk to on the phone is ten times the miracle in person.’

From molecules, beakers, and formula to dirty talk, spanking and hot sex, Theo Drummond certainly had our hearts racing, and despite his awkwardness, he certainly brought the swoon!

‘He’s such an arrogant asshole, and I so want him.’

Annika Martin delighted us at every turn with this story. Please don’t be put off by the title because this isn’t a sex fest. It’s a sweet, charming, funny, snarky and yes, very sexy rom-com that’ll leave you smiling! This ticked a lot of boxes and suited our mood perfectly!

‘It’s insane the thoughts I have about her. I’m a chemist, not a caveman.’

In a round about way, our heroine is assistant to the assistant of our hero. In the beginning he came off as incredibly awkward, someone who wasn’t familiar with social niceties and a savant. But he was more so OCD, very particular, sometimes very literal, but a heart full of gold kind of guy.

Our heroine hates him. He reminds her of her ex, a man that conned her and has left her in a load of debt in her name. Her plan is to keep this job long enough for the signing bonus so she can move back home and restart her bakery and pay off the loan sharks.

Working for his company, she hates the way things are run. Yet when given the task to find a wake up call service to wake up our CEO who clearly is incompetent in waking up to a phone alarm, no companies are willing to affiliate themselves due to his grumpy attitude in the morning. When push comes to shove she takes it upon herself to be part of the service.

Wake up, you stupid motherfucker. People are waiting for whatever annoying bullshit you have in store for them today.” I’m trying not to smile. I kind of like that he’s listening. “Your hapless minions await whatever stupid bullshit flows from your meteoric mind.”

And after a few more unconventional phone calls, they turn sexual. I was like rahhh my guy went from “scientific data analysis” to “I’m gonna rip your clothes off once I find you”. 😭👅

I’ve been waiting for something light, carefree and banterous like this. Rife with sexual tension. I haven’t read a book in one sitting in months so kudos. I really really liked it!

I think I may read a couple more of her works.
I just gotta find good books now! And I’ll be back.

*I somehow posted this to the wrong book the first time, so we're trying again.*

I hate billionaires. So, while I'll read books with billionaire MMCs, I don't purposely seek them out. I generally prefer a regular guy or an alien. 😆

However, I wanted something light/funny to listen to while doing some crafting, and I'd seen this recommended a few times.

It was perfect--right book at the right time. Honestly, I just devoured this in a day and a half. The FMC was likeable and funny, and I loved her supportive roommate friend. The MMC was a grumpy ass who just needed someone to challenge him, and see him for who he really was as a person. I liked the chemistry between them and the dirty talk. 🤭

I laughed out loud quite a few times. Not sure if I would have loved it as much if I'd read it vs audiobook but it hit the spot with the dual narrators. I realized the couple in book one make an appearance in this one, and now I want to go back and read that book, and maybe the rest in the series as well!

The Billionaire's Wake-Up-Call Girl was such a fun romance. It is the first book that I have read by Annika Martin and I am so impressed with her writing.
There is tension underlying with this story as Lizzie previously had her own popular bakery, She lost it and found out that she was in a heap of debt that her awful ex Mason had taken in her name and using the bakery as collateral, he hadn't stopped there, loan sharks are turning up on her doorstep demanding money and pulling guns on her with a loan agreement with Masons signature and her own poorly forged one.
In order to pay the load shark off and start her life over she takes a job working in the Social Media department at Vossameer. ( A company owned by the brilliant, rich and reportedly coldly controlling Theo Drummond) A company that had produced ground breaking wound treatment and Theo felt had an even more pioneering invention within it's sights.
Unfortunately for Lizzie she is working under a hideously bullying area manager who claims all triumphs as her own and belittles Lizzie and makes it seem that every stumbling block or hold up is due to Lizzie being inept and none too bright. Lizzie has to hold down this job for a few more days when she is instructed to find a wake up service for Theo. A task which is an apparent impossibility as no telephone service is willing to deal with Theo. Knowing that faliure to complete this task would cost her the job (and money needed to clear the loan shark) Lizzie takes the decision to make the wake up calls herself.
Her wake up methods vary between hilariously abusive and steamy and Theo becomes determined to find out who 'number 7' (the only details she has fed to him) is.
The story has a little something for everyone who likes a little steam and laughter to their romance. Yes it's another billionaire story but he's also sexy scientist which is a fun twist on a well known trope.
I highly recommend this enjoyable, funny story.
Thanks to Annika Martin and Social Butterfly PR for granting me an ARC copy of The Billionaire's Wake-Up-Call Girl. This is my honest review.

Wake up, motherfucker. This is a lovely way to start the morning, right? I think is a great way to wake up someone, like your boss, who you kinda hate.

There isn’t much I can say about this book, other than I loved it.

“Wake up, you stupid motherfucker. People are waiting for whatever annoying bullshit you have in store for them today.” I’m trying not to smile. I kind of like that he’s listening. “Your hapless minions await whatever stupid bullshit flows from your meteoric mind.”

Wow! I LOVED this book—best of the series so far in my opinion. I laughed so hard and had such a great time reading the whole thing! Seriously, if you need a mid week pick me up, this will absolutely do it for you.

The banter between Theo and Lizzie is amazing, laced with potent, undeniable chemistry. Lizzie’s wake-up-call girl tirades are pure comedy gold, and I love how Theo is SO into it. He’s such a glutton for Lizzie’s unique brand of punishment. But he’s also a total asshole dirty talker which is just… so much awesomeness. The phone sex scenes alone are searing hot, and when they actually do it in person it’s out of this world. 🔥🔥🔥

“You think I don’t know who I’m calling?” I say, making a snap decision. “This is a wake-up-call service. I know exactly who I’m calling—Theo Drummond, CEO of Vossameer. I know everything I need to know about you. Thing one: You’re a man who can’t seem to operate the modern wake-up technologies specifically created for wake-up functions, so you have to hire somebody to do it for you. And then you act like a total jackalope and tell her how to do her job.”

Jackalope! 🤣🤣🤣
Lizzie, ILYSM. Teach me your ways.

In case you’re wondering if there is actual substance beyond the laughs, let me say this: YES. 110%. Emotional depth, fully formed character arcs, fabulous writing, in SPADES.

I prefer to go into business deals not needing a yes. The fastest way to a yes is not needing it.

But for the first time in my life, I need a yes from a woman. Need it like air.

Theo, you beautiful grumpy alpha-hole. ILYT.

The whole series comprises of six books so far but The Billionaire’s Wake-Up-Call Girl can be read as stand-alone. There is a little overlap with characters from book 1 making minor cameos, but they don’t affect the story.

Such a great book, and thanks to everyone who recommended this series. I didn’t know how much I needed some of Annika Martin’s special magic this week!

4 Wake up motherfucker Stars

This was my first Annika Martin book but some of the MacHalo Ladies read the Kinky Bank Robbers Series and thought they were pretty good so I dove in head first to Call Girl on release day.
Because as we all know I have zero self control.
^ I have no intention of attempting to change that fact about myself, but I always like to remind people that it's a thing so that maybe their judgement is less harsh. The interwebs can be a mean place.

I make some of the most ridiculous reading selections possible. Want proof? TLDR: Just look at some of my shelves people

Back to this one... I'm just gonna be honest, I was in it solely for the dirty talk and the book quotes promising 4:30 AM phone sex but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I enjoyed the characters and the story line.

There were some tropey issues (I mean the title tells you we're dealing with one of the he's gorgeous and loaded but soooo misunderstood *sad face* type stories), but it really worked for me. So here's the story line lowdown if you're trying to decide if this one is worth your dollars:

Lizzie is in major financial trouble after her piece of shit ex racked up serious debt and embezzled from her bakery so she takes a job that she only has to survive for 30 days in order to get the amazing signing bonus that's gonna help her keep her kneecaps <- longer story there obviously but I'm trying to keep this short so go with it.

Theo is a brilliant chemist that focuses of all his time on life-saving medical advances but he's super rigid and a complete asshole. He gets up at the asinine time of 4:30 every morning to start his day but because he needs a little help in that department (and who wouldn't! it's freaking 4:30 ffs!) he has always used wake up services so that he can't be tempted to just hit snooze once in his carefully scheduled life.

When his assistant leaves to go take care of a new grand-kid, his umpteenth million call service drops him as a client because of his bullshittery. Enter Lizzie who has been tasked with finding a new wake-up service.

Hilarity and hotness ensues.

Lizzie gets to tell Theo that he's an asshole every morning through the anonymity of a wake up call service, but as it turns out Theo is into it and pretty soon these wake up calls are hotter than those exploding Samsungs from a few years ago...

Ooopsie doopsie

Anyway, I started it yesterday and finished it yesterday so if you're looking for a quick uncomplicated smutty read that won't make you want to throw things I would definitely recommend.

Yeah... No. Absolutely no.
What the Heck is this ???

You know, don't get me wrong. I know there are bosses who can be assholes. For real, they are in a lot of Businesses, public and private companies...
The thing is, though, that if the boss is mean, doesn't use positive reinforcement but simply controls everything, intimidates his employees, those employees will likely not love him. Okay, no, most will despise him, no Matter whether this guy saves lives or not...
Not the case in this book. Everyone seems to adore the boss . Doesn't matter to them apparently that he doesn't allow them sh#t, that he doesn't let them wear REVEALING clothes. Nor form-fitting ones.
Now, let me dwell here for a moment. Who does this sexist ass think that he is??!! How dare he call ppl out on their clothes cause he cannot keep His DISGUSTING eyes to himself. Argh.

Can't go on.

I AM OUT
Enough screaming and yelling for the day.

This book left me speechless, after I was done laughing and crying my heart out, of course.

Sure, we've read the "billionaire boss" trope before, but never quite like this. It was a genius idea that was crafted perfectly. Full of intelligent humor, heartbreaking realness, and two characters who you just wanted to shake sometimes (lovingly, though).

This book started off so light and funny with Lizzie having to act a "wake up call" girl for her boss Theo. It starts out with hilarious dialogue but quickly morphed into phone sex.

Just like in the first book of the series, the steamy moments were more vulgar than I like. Unfortunately in this book, those moments were increased and took up a larger part of the book, which I found to be disappointing. In addition, I felt the vocabulary used was awkward and just plain odd.

I loved the rest of the book, it was light and funny and I liked how Vicky and Henry from book 1 were briefly featured. The narrators are the same in books 1 and 2, which was an adjustment at first, but they are great narrators.

4 stars, excluding the spicy sections

Well, that was a fun book … until it wasn’t. The first half of the book is really so much fun, I laughed out loud. It is also sexy.

The book felt like 4 stars to me in the first half. Then, the hero & the heroine have a problem and the second half of the book deals with it and it is boring & annoying. And it is a simple problem that can be solved in many other ways but both of them make mistakes.

I liked the hero despite all his quirks and I liked the heroine at the beginning. She is this sassy, funny and sweet girl at first but then, she goes and makes me ask myself why writers always turn sassy heroines into annoying ones later…

So, in short, after some annoying problematic period, the book gets sweeter again and the ending is good with a HEA and Epilogue.

Writing:

It is written in dual point of view. It is hilarious in the first half. The hot scenes are well-written. If only the second part of the book weren't that boring.

Safety:

No cheating. It is safe.

Surprise:

Towards the end, Vicky, the heroine in the book “Most Eligible Bachelor” makes a surprise appearance with the famous dog Smuckers and it really felt like seeing an old friend.

Recommendation:

Whenever you need a quick hot & fun read, my recommendation would be to read first “Most Eligible Bachelor” and then, this book, “The Billionaire’s Wake-up-call Girl”. They are not related but the appearance of a character from the first book in the second book will mean more to you as well if you read them in that order.

Most Eligible Bachelor” is a bit better than “The Billionaire’s Wake-up-call Girl”, anyways but both are worth reading for fun 😊

Here are some QUOTES from the book...

Everyone here is obsessed with Mr. Drummond. They seem to regard him the way the ancients regarded the gods that controlled the weather and plagues. Angry and vengeful, yet glorious. Never to be spoken ill of.

***

“This is your wake-up call…” I narrow my eyes, imagining arrogant Mr. Drummond, so confident of his superiority to the rest of the human race. I grab it. “Wake up, motherfucker,” I say. “It’s time to rise and shine, okay?”
Mia raises her hand like she wants the phone back, but it’s my turn. I spin around. “It’s another day, full of promise and possibility, another opportunity for you to step over whatever people you step over on your way to wherever the hell you go at this weirdly stupid hour.” Something soars in me. I continue—with gusto, “Time to start your day of being a complete and utter asshole, a man who thinks he’s all that and totally isn’t. And you need a wake-up call because you’re sooooo special. Because for whatever reason, you’re too much of an asshole to work an alarm clock like ninety-nine-point-nine-nine-nine percent of people are able to do.”
I turn back around to find Mia looking stunned.

***

“I would’ve moved heaven and Earth to find you.”

***

I want to say something sassy, but the language-formation part of my brain seems to be offline. Maybe the pleasure center of my brain annexed it, needing more space to put up dome-topped skyscrapers and rocket launch pads and other phallic things.

***

“Wake-up calls come in many forms,” he says, looking directly at me now. “Sometimes baby goats show you you’re being too linear. And sometimes it’s a literal wake-up call that wakes you up to a world that’s wider than you ever imagined.”
