Girl power mystery solving🔍

A baker and her besties, a big old Maine Coon cat and a small Oregon town with its share of problems that need a Maddie and crew intervention! Fun, cozy detecting.

Here's my impression of each story in the set:

Doughnuts and Disaster, 4🌟
Maddie and friends gather 'round to protect their Angel; danger lurks in the woods!😲
Strong friendships and a sketchy blast from the past who may have turned over a new leaf play into this latest murder mystery involving baker Maddie and her Girlz friends. I've read every book in the series this far and this one is good, IMO better than the last, because it keeps the focus on the tension, danger and investigation surrounding a murder Maddie almost witnesses while taking a break in the woods with her gal pals.

The story focuses on a fairly tight group of a dozen characters or so: pretty easy to follow them and their connections to each other and the murder victim. Although it's a cozy mystery and not a romance, there are several couples who seem to be gravitating towards each other and Maddie is happily paired with Ethan, the local police chief, though there's no hanky panky. In fact, poor Ethan gets shunted out of the action repeatedly; sort of a pity, really. But it gives Maddie's resourcefulness and survival skills, learned at the knee of her beloved departed grandfather, a chance to shine. There's also some tense action and a smattering of Big Red the Maine Coon cat attempts to garner attention due him!😾 A nice mix😊

I enjoyed the story with its sisterhood-centric atmosphere, and was pleased with the ending result. 👍

Eclairs and Extortion, 3.5-4🌟stars
Foreigners invade town as Maddie adjusts to a new family dynamic and Gran greets her prodigal daughter

More murder and mayhem in small-town Maple Falls as bakery owner Maddie deals with danger to her expanding family and a gargantuan plan for Gran's 70th birthday. Maddie has to handle the conflicting emotions dredged up by her absentee mother's return to town with her new, wealthy husband, though it continues to revolve around Maddie's insatiable appetite for crime solving and the love and support she finds in boyfriend, friends, family, and, not least of all, her Maine Coon 🐱 Big Red who has his own moment of glory. Unlike earlier books, this one led me to the malfactor poisoning and killing their way through the family way before the action climax. Maybe I have just learned the author's method for slipping the innocuous hint into the story having stayed with the series. Still, it's clean, cozy, filled with mouth-watering descriptions of bakery magic and a enjoyable read.

Fudge and Frenemies, 3.5🌟 stars
🏰 I miss the folks back home!

This trip across The Pond for Maddie, her BFF Angel and her British-born grandma Beatrice had Maddie meddling (always successfully, it has to be said) in a local police investigation like other books in the series but, for me, the other folks back in their town in Oregon (and Maddie's Maine coon cat Big Red) were missed. I love Maddie's gal pal and bakery crew and her tight connection to her hometown.

This story set in England at a castle had many threads going, what with mysterious noises, a death, thefts, vandalism, attacks, tense visits from a distant relative and talk of Maddie's dead grandfather's secretive past. A lot crammed in and Angel's prodigious appetite lends a spark of humor to the tale. It does all come together in the end but it just was not quite as fun without Maple Falls.😕

I read a complimentary advance copy of the books in the set when they were first published; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Since this includes books 4-6 in the series, you've probably already met Maddie, Big Red, Gran, and The Girlz. This is a wonderfully convenient way to continue following their adventures as they solve the mysteries that always seem to find their way to Maddie. You won't have to stop between books, just jump right in to the next mystery!

If you love the recipes included at the end of each book, don't worry! They are still included at the end of this ebook box set.

In Doughnuts and Disaster, Angel's abusive ex-husband shows up in town and Maddie does her best to protect her friend. Things get even worse for poor Angel because it looks like she's being framed for a string of murders. Can Maddie solve the mystery and protect her friend before it's too late?

In Eclairs and Extortion, Maddie's mom shows up out of the blue with a big announcement. At the same time, there is a dead body in the park and a mysterious stranger. On top of everything, Maddie is trying to plan a surprise birthday party for Gran. Will Maddie, her estranged mom, and Gran be able to keep the peace during all the excitement?

In Fudge and Frenemies, Maddie and Gran go on a trip to London to visit Maddie's mom and step-father in their castle. The problem is, the castle is in bad shape and someone is targeting them trying to drive away the newcomers. On top of that, there's a murder at the castle and local police do NOT appreciate Maddie's help at all, plus Big Red had to stay back home in Maple Falls, so he's unable to help Maddie with his feline sleuthing or moral support. Will Maddie be able to help solve the mystery or will she be sidelined this time around?

I’ve enjoyed all the books in this series with Maggie, Big Red, her girlz, and Ethan coming across crime after crime. Maggie always seems to end up in the middle of things putting herself at risk, much to Ethan’s dismay. Big Red proves to be quiet the sleuth time and time again. A nice set of cozy mysteries.

I love the characters in this fun series of mysteries. Maddie, Gran, the Girlz, Ethan and Big Red are always caught up in murder. The plots are twisty with several suspects and various motives. Will they apprehend the murderers before anyone else is hurt? You need to read these books to find out. I highly recommend this very enjoyable series. I own individual copies of each book.
