BORN TO BE HIS BRIDE?

It is said that Braden MacAllister, English baron and proud Highlander warrior, can fell an enemy with a single blow—and a woman with a single kiss. But not Maggie, it seems. For the fire-haired beauty, determined to end the long running feud that rages between their clan and its common foe, is immune to Braden's attempts to stop her foolishness. But stop her he will, once he gets the meddling minx alone and favours her with a passionate caress and an irresistible kiss.

No matter how she trembles beneath Braden's sensuous touch...he has given his heart to none. But dare she dream that by assuring peace for her clan she may also be claiming the most magnificent Highlander for herself.

I’m sorry. I couldn’t keep holding on anymore. It’s really painful for me to rate my favorite author’s book less than 3 stars. I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's PNR stories so I hoped I would love her HR as well. The first book in this series was my successful read. It was surprisingly good so I had very high expectations with this one. Sadly, it was a huge letdown. I didn't enjoy the plot and the heroine at all.

Maggie’s character ruined the book. She's twenty-two years old but acts as if she's sixteen. She's stubborn, annoying, and unreasonable. She made a big mistake but instead of accepting that, she tried to prove that she could fix it alone. She didn’t seem much concerned that her bad decision affected so many people, including her love ones. This was a big no-no!

Kinley MacGregor's books are known to be funny and fast-paced, and I think this book is a good example of that. I was in the mood for something light, so I really enjoyed this read.

Braden and Maggie were very likable, and I especially enjoyed seeing the small glimpses of their childhood friendship. Close in age, they had known each other since forever and it was charming to see them remember the several encounters they'd had over the years. They didn't know it - well, Braden didn't know it - but they belonged together since he first "saved her life", when she was only a fiery seven-year-old girl and he was a ten-year-old lad.

The story took place mostly "on the road", following Maggie, Braden and his brother Sin on the way to try and negotiate peace with the MacDouglas's, a feuding clan of the MacAllister's. Obviously, Braden found himself falling in love with Maggie during their journey, finally catching up with her, who had always loved him. I kept wondering if Sin felt like a "third wheel" there, but I guess he was just cool and sarcastic enough not to care.

As for the feud between the MacAllisters and the MacDouglases, I thought it was too easily solved. Call me bloodthirsty, but I wanted to see striking swords and battered bodies - something grand like what happened in the end of Master of Desire, the 1st book in the series. Oh well, it was nice enough to see Braden say he would die for Maggie, though. :)

In the end, I closed the book with a smile on my face and the assurance that I can always count on Ms. MacGregor to deliver a quick and amusing read.

“Claiming the Highlander” is the story of Maggie and Braden.
Basically the story is this- to prevent the deaths of more men due to a senseless war between two clans-MacDouglas and MacAllister, Maggie decides to rally all the women together so the men can agree to put a stop to the unnecessary deaths.
The men, however disagree, as women are their chattel and decide to use the youngest of the MacGregor brothers, Braden- to convince Maggie of the same.
We have a extremely handsome horn dog hero who sleeps with anything (that’s how the book starts)- a supposedly unattractive but brave and kind heroine who’s loved the hero forever- and then their “love story”.
RANT

I was not rooting for this couple.
The book is full of sexist, unfaithful, abusive men- and I don’t care about the era- I don’t like it.
Maggie you deserved someone way better.

No me gustó nada.

Often I prefer my romances on the darker side, moody and with some nicely drawn angst and maybe a tortured hero thrown in every now and again. But sometimes, I really enjoy reading something lighter and less taxing on the heart and mind.

If you’re looking for a lot of depth, then this book probably isn’t for you. But if you’re in the mood for a light, quick, entertaining read, then Claiming the Highlander would be an excellent choice.

Braden MacAllister and Maggie ingen Blar have grown up together. Since their first meeting when Maggie was seven and Braden, ten, Maggie has had a case of hero worship for her older brothers’ friend.

Now a man of twenty-five, Braden is living a life of shameless enjoyment, living it up and making the most of his spectacular looks and appeal. Braden genuinely loves women and it is no hardship that they throw themselves at him shamelessly.

Maggie, on the other hand, is still suffering the effects of the merciless teasing she suffered as a child due to her red-headed, freckled and gangly appearance. She is still beneath the notice of men and has yet to be kissed or courted.

Still holding a candle for Braden, she knows a man such as he would never be interested in her. And nor would she want him the way he is. Maggie will accept nothing less than commitment and a faithful, loving marriage, something Braden is unable and unwilling to provide.

When her radical plan to force two clans to cease their senseless feuding is about to fail with spectacular consequences, Maggie must journey to the rival clan, escorted by Braden and his dangerous brother Sin, in a last ditch attempt to stop more deaths.

In the forced intimacy of the journey, Braden finds himself unwillingly and confusingly attracted to his friends’ sister, and Maggie finds herself painfully tempted to finally give in to her attraction to Braden. Each of them know that Braden will only end up causing Maggie pain and unhappiness, but death could meet them at the end of the journey, and temptation soon proves too difficult to deny.

I’m really enjoying this series and the author’s easy, entertaining style. I enjoyed the characters of Braden and Maggie, and the way Maggie was able to show Braden that she sees him as the person he is - more than just a pretty face - and Braden finally overcoming his hang-ups with the help of some gruff, sage advice from Sin.

Claiming the Highlander is the second book in Kinley MacGregor’s Brotherhood/MacAllister series, following Master of Desire. However, the connection seems only to be in the setting and this one would work absolutely fine as a standalone.

Edit: Arkadaşlar yıqıLdıM.
Braden'ın kardeşi Ian'ın kitabı yokmuş. YOKMUŞ.

Edit 2: Ben gerçek bir gerizekalıyım.
Hanımeliçiçeği'm sayesinde kastettiğim bebişkom Sin, Ian değil, Ian Maggie'nin ikizi kdkcodpfpdpd of...

Braden: Hold my joystick

Ama öyle olmuyor asdfadfasdf

Aslında Maggie çocukluğundan beri "kahramanı" Braden'a aşık ama içindeki tüm fırtınaya rağmen direniyor.

Biz o fırtınada sırılsıklam oluyoruz.
Öhöm.
Baştan çıkartmaya çalıştığı Maggie, Braden'ın aklını başından alıyor.

Zampara görünümlü herif, düşünceli bir pislik, ahlaksız bir koruyucu, edepsiz bir aşık.
Ah...

Pes dedirten cinsten vallahi. Azıcık hız bekliyor insan.
Eğlenceli bir tarihi aşk romanı isterseniz sıkılmadan okursunuz.

Painful to read. Painful. Don’t get my wrong, i love unrequited love, but the H was a complete asshole and horn dog. The book opens up with him having an almost threesome with a married woman and her two sisters, I have no respect for a man who doesn’t respect a taken women. Also why in the hell were the women so ready to cater to this guy. A pretty face and all the women came rushing to his defense and wanted to baby him. Wow, just so unrealistic. He did not inspire any love from me. And the fact that the heroine was in love with him through all this man whoring around. She knew from the beginning he didn’t approach her out of interest yet she STILL fell for his tricks. Too top it all off, he had a kid he didn’t know about. I get it, during this time period condoms and other contraceptives were not a thing but it says something about his character if a woman he slept with was not comfortable enough to confront him about HIS kid. Just utterly disgusted by the H behavior. Sorry not sorry.

Braden MacAllister, Highland warrior and holder of English lands, is known as a womanizer and a force to be reckoned with in battle. He’s used to turning female heads so he’s a bit surprised when his childhood friend Maggie seems immune to his charming attempts to stop her misguided efforts to end the feud between their clan and their neighbors. But she’s removed all the women in the clan from their homes and it can’t go on, so Braden is determined to make her see sense, especially if it means deploying his seductive skills.

Maggie has loved Braden since they were children and cannot help her inevitable response to him, though she knows nothing will come of it. He keeps his heart well-guarded and her efforts at gaining peace for the clan will be just as difficult as those at claiming Braden for her own.

Phew. Talk about a letdown. This book was not for me, and things may turn spoilery as I go on a mini rant about why, so consider yourself warned. Yes, I’m reading out of order, but I read the book that comes after this one in the series, Born in Sin, and loved it, so I had high hopes for this one. I knew in the first few chapters that it wouldn’t but as good, but I persevered with the audiobook hoping for improvement that never really came. I love Highlander books and I love the premise of all these brothers and their interconnected stories. Unfortunately, Braden was not my favorite brother, to put it mildly, and I didn’t like the heroine, Maggie, at all either. First off, though she did have a valid goal of ending a bloody feud between her clan and their neighbors, but was incredibly dumb and naïve, and her methods were woefully misguided. I also found it incredibly annoying how often she referred to various men, and especially to the hero, as spawns of Satan. Braden was just as bad in this respect with his views on women. It also didn’t help anything that this plot was rather slow, Lachlan was undermined as laird, and several aspects seemed to have been left unaddressed (such as Lachlan’s situation and his punishment of his men).

They’d both seen the sanctity of marriage violated by their parents, so their views did make a warped sort of sense, but it would’ve been much more compelling if they were determined to do better rather than just avoid entanglements. The predatory way women were portrayed here was also just cringeworthy and it was so weird to me that sometimes Braden was described as this manic seducer who will sleep with anything in a dress and other times, he’s the victim of randy women who won’t take no for an answer. This is illustrated firsthand for Maggie and almost seems like the beginnings of some sort of redemption arc for Braden, but it wasn’t nearly enough given the fact that he was at the very least willing to try to sleep with another woman even after exploring his feelings for Maggie. He only realized he didn’t want this other woman after his body was unresponsive to her (though they did kiss) and he realized Maggie was the one he truly wanted. This was so gross to me and definitely meant Braden didn’t qualify for hero status in my book.

To be completely fair, I also didn’t care for Maggie as a heroine. She continually believed the absolute worst of Braden, even on the rare occasions when he was giving her reason not to, and she consistently made assumptions, even when his brother warned her repeatedly that she didn’t truly know him. Of course, there are plenty of people just like this in real life and this sort of dysfunction happens all the time, but that doesn’t mean I want to read it in my romance books. That is, of course, just me. I didn’t like either of these two and I really wasn’t buying it that somehow the clan no longer hated her when they got together. With all these predatory women and unfaithful men, I’m not sure how I’m supposed to believe anyone’s love story and it certainly doesn’t feel romantic. Given how much I loved Sin’s book, I just wanted more from this one and I’m hoping it was an anomaly.

Anyone familiar with ancient Greek comedy will recognize Aristophanes' Lysistrata immediately - the town women, led by a brazen spokeswoman, rally together and withhold sex until the men stop fighting. MacGregor takes a classic tale and spins it into a lighthearted Scottish romance. There's not a lot of angst, emotional connection, or even historical detail to take this story to the next level. Rather, we have Maggie, a plain jane character with ugly shoes, who's fallen in love with the town's Casanova, Braden. Maggie and Braden's romance seem unrealistic in my eyes, and I'd bet my bottom dollar that in today's world this mismatched couple would end up a divorce statistic.

I'm holding out for Born in Sin, the main reason why I picked up this series to begin with. Here's to dark, emotionally damaged dangerous heroes.

I am not a fan of unrequited love & the h has loved the hero for years without coming to his notice. We are told & shown that H is a rake. Hell the book even opens with him having a threesome. Bleh! I don't understand why we have to be shown on page hero is a stud! Then there are discussions of his other encounters with women. Women here are shown to be very predatory & overtly sexual, accosting men. Also h/H also seem to be getting it on in front of his bro which bothered me. I mean if this is a historical, weren't there more rules of propriety around. Our H of course has reason to be scared of love. This one was predictable but an okay one-time read.

Not as good as the first book. I have had many personal issues to enjoy the relationship between Braden and Maggie. He is too cocky for my taste and the solution at the end of the book is a bit predictable and cliché. Maggie is interesting, though.

Braden MacAllister is so heart-stoppingly handsome, devastatingly charming and passionately perfect that every woman who sees him either swoons or chases him down and demands he let them have their way with him ( 10 at once even). He, of course obliges with abandon, admitting anything with two legs wearing skirts will do and proceeds to prove it through much of the story. So is it any surprise I find it hard to believe when, at the end of the book, he pledges eternal fidelity to the rather dowdy childhood friend he never even noticed before? Although I understand why so many others rate this book highly, I just couldn't bring myself to like Braden enough to believe in his happy ending.

Knowing this is totally a personal preference and not wanting to judge a good author because of it, I may still try the next in this series (besides, Sin, the brother, was much more intriguing to begin with.)

I love Kinley MacGregor's sense of humor. She has feel for humorous dialogue that is natural. She creates amazing characters that I easily become emotionally invested in.

The plot for Claiming the Highlander was weak. At first glance it seemed that this would be an interesting read, but it was dull filled with a lot of flashback sequences that didn't really move the story forward. The hero began the story as a careless playboy and then in the middle he claimed to be the innocent victim of sex-crazed females. I like reading stories about people who are less than perfect, less than beautiful, with characters who stay true to their character. I like it when bad guys stay bad, people with good intentions mess things up, and playboys fall in love and vow to be faithful.

A plain Jane rallying town women to withhold sex and herself is in love with the town's Casanova? I will pass.

(I wonder, was Maggie a virgin in the book? That would be tremendously ironic for a virgin to tell other women to withhold sex from men to get them to do stuff, no?)

I enjoyed reading this a lot and I didn't expect to like the characters, but with the author's excellent writing style, it was a fast read for me and it provided the entertainment I was looking for.

The first few pages about Braden made me instantly dislike him, he's portrayed as a shallow and hedonistic man who hops from one woman's bed to another; but as I read on, I realized his character had depth, and like all people he's afraid of trusting a woman, wary of a broken heart. His affairs are fleeting and impersonal, but he's a good diplomat and when it comes to family, his loyalty pegs no question.

It's the same way I didn't instantly warm up to Maggie's character until I read further. She's one of the youngest (having a twin brother) and the only female in of seven children. It was touching how her eldest brother loves her, the one who perished in the squabble between the MacAllisters and MacDouglases, and it was a very good plan Maggie hatched, until some women were attacked by the males.

The author lay a good foundation for Maggie and Braden's relationship, since they've known each other when they were very little. The development was there, both of them trying to fight it, but with the guidance of the most unlikely character, they each realized that they have to take a risk for that love. The little flashbacks helped in understanding the characters, and the horse as a gift, and Braden's comment about having a sister was really touching.

The love scenes were written very well, both of them shared themselves in the present, not thinking of anyone or the repercussions, and it was noble of Braden not have taken advantage of Maggie out in the woods, and I admired Maggie for her resolve in fighting for Braden, the man she wants and the one she would only love.

I agree with the saying, "one doesn't know what s/he has until it's gone", because it makes one realize the value of something or someone when it's not there anymore. I'm looking forward to reading the next!

5 stars...for sure.

I loved this book and I still have 3 more pages to go. It dawn on me a thought, the past truly made who you are.

For Maggie, it was been bullied-harrassed, lost her mother than later her father, raised as the youngest daughter and 5 brothers. She became a nuturer, smart-strong-detemined protector, a survivor at any cost and loved passionately the only boy who stood for her as long as she can remember, Braden MacAllister.

As for Braden, the randy-assed rogue, he loved women and women loved him, single-married and all ages in between. His past left him withdrawn from such love given and received. To him love was a weakness, one that can force him to abandon his blood bc he'd seeing it done. A true warrior himself, a loving brother who would died for those he loved, a hero in Maggie's eyes yet he failed to see he'd deserved nothing more than tumbling in an out of varies beds.

Oh...and let's not even talk about Sin, Braden's brother. That's the next book, but I can tell, it's a tear-jerker but hubba-hubba-hubba. Abandoned by his father and both mothers, given as hostage to King David of England. As it turned out, he's now one of Kind Henry's best friends, how fortunate and yet he carried such hatred for all that was Scotcland, can you blame him?

This book had me giggled one moment and then brimmed with tears the next. I loved the richly drawn characters, the deep meanings behind the storyline, the romance and plenty of hotness that I couldn't get my butt to do anything and didn't want it to end...

Definitely move this to your next highlander read if you're looking for one!

I am so in love with the character of Maggie, for she is definitely the hidden-beauty of strong character and fiery independence. Braden is equally a likable character for his strength and kindhearted ways, despite his roguish and debonair personality. The plot focuses around Maggie, who has grown to hate the MacAllistor/MacDouglas feud and in hopes of ending it, has prompted both the women of her clan, and the MacDouglas, to strike out; refusal of service, both in the kitchen and bedroom.

Upon Braden's homecoming to his clan, from the get-go this plot is packed with hilarious moments, and heartfelt emotion. The large portion of the plot centers around Sin, Braden, and Maggie making the trek to the MacDouglas lands in hopes of making a stand-off beg for peace. While the character base is shorten to primarily three main characters, the story is so smile-worthy and touching, chalked with tons of entertaining scenes.

The characters are, as always, strong and independent in personality- as always.

Again, once more, another five-star book goes right to Sherri's throne.
