I like the fact that this book was a blend of the spicy romance and a thriller. It had the elements I love of both genres. I absolutely love that Amy writes spicy novels and that she gets her inspiration from the BDSM club. I love that she gets consent before she even writes about the couples, the details she goes into, and how she writes her books. At first, Hayden was as far from the guy I wanted Amy with. He was so judgemental and lied to her. The way he approached things was so wrong. But, it was accurate to how a lot of people view BDSM as well as spicy romance authors. They treat the community, both communities, as vile and predatory. It angers me so much, so I love that Amy defended herself and didn't take Haydens shit. I knew that the killer was in her circle, but I was so sad to see the lives it cost Amy. I'm glad that Hayden wizened up and stopped being a total tool about the culture.

Please check trigger warnings before reading. This is a sexually explicit book but it also contains other triggering material. Check authors note. 🔞

Now let’s begin! 👏👏

This book is the first in the series Seven Deadly Sins which revolves around a BDSM club. We jump start our book with our fmc Amy being hauled off to the police station and interrogated by a tall grumpy…. And sexy detective who is leading an investigation of a series of local murders which supposedly involve her. Enters Detective Hayden 😍😍

We have the suspense of what’s actually happening and the mystery surrounding them, drama, interesting side characters, betrayal and of course the spicy hot tension between the author and detective while they try to keep things professional…A bit hard when the investigation leads them to a bdsm club 🔥🔥

I finished this book in one sitting and while it was a lighter read than expected, I throughly enjoyed reading this book!

As the start of a series I think it also sets up an amazing foundation for the rest of the series and I’m extremely excited to see what happens next based on the little teaser at the end!

This appears to be a debut novel by Erin Coal and I consider it a massive success!

Many thanks to @KatieandBreypa and @erincoalauthor for my gifted arc in exchange for my honest review. 💖💖

I’m gonna be real here; this book is lucky that it got even two stars from me. Not only was it poorly written, but the way it was executed? Predictable from the start.

It’s only got 2 stars because the smut was okay but still. I wouldn’t read it again and I didn’t DNF it because my goal for this year is to not DNF any. However, I did come close about 3 times throughout the whole book.

It has potential, I’ll give it that but the author needs a proper editor and “my nipples pebbled”? Please don’t ever write that again. I snorted every single time and cringed so hard, I nearly broke my back.

great read 👍🏻

Amy is a writer who frequents a BDSM club for her research, she’s not heavily into the scene, but she’s a lot more open minded than the detectives that knock on her door to interview her!
Hayden is the detective assigned to the case and he’s a great character, a little surly to start with (and rather narrow minded) but he seems like an ok guy (and yes I did wonder if he was the killer at one point) 😝
There is almost an instant attraction between the MC’s (main characters) but as Hayden is recovering from a recent breakup, he’s a little wary, but there is something pulling him towards Amy, throw in the fact she’s a suspect/witness to the case he’s on, this could prove disastrous for his career.
But Amy is totally into him, he’s like a character from one of her books, and her libido is doing overtime whenever he’s around.
Hayden and Amy soon start to work together to find out who is trying to frame her, and that are using scenes from her books to murder people Amy knows!
The finger points to her, but Hayden isn’t convinced (well at first he was all for arresting Amy) so they need to find evidence before the killer strikes again!
There are a few side characters that need stories, and an additional character that I fell in love with.
I was drawn in from the first words and couldn’t put it down until I was done. Nicely written and pretty well thought out. For a first book it’s a really good start to what I’m hoping will be a great series 😉
Will you guess who the murderer is before Hayden and Amy do?
There are no fade outs in this book, and all the smexy scenes are there for the reader to enjoy 😉There are a few naughty scenes, but the story is mainly a murder/mystery, and you will be kept guessing, even throwing in a few twists to throw you off the scent.

ARC from author - NO spoilers - Adult, standalone, no cliffhanger, HEA Bk1 in Seven Deadly Sins series
M/F, Detective/Author, forced proximity, med burn/hot spice, suspense/mystery, protective MMC

****CW: BDSM, sex, violence, mild torture and crime scenes - pls read authors warning****

Amy, our FMC, writes Erotica under a pen name and becomes a person of interest when a series of local murder victims are staged in scenes from her books. Hayden Whittaker , our grumpy sunshine Detective is leading the Investigation and finding it hard to keep Professional where Amy is concerned.

I enjoyed this book and ended up finishing it in one hit.
Was a lighter read than I expected, I will be honest, less Police Procedure and investigation which was what initially drew me and more relationship but enjoyable never the less.

It does feature the BDSM Club, The Seven Deadly Sins frequently, which is to be expected as this is the foundation narrative for the series.
I appreciated the care the author took to explain rules, manners and general terms for the readers who are not familiar with that World without it being a lecture but gently incorporated into dialogue.
Loved Amy, her two personas, how she still retained an air of innocence whilst getting railed!
Spice super warm and nicely thought out.

Amy's group of friends came across well, genuine and could picture them easily.

Slight problem with Hayden going from zero to 100% Dom so quickly, a little hesitation or floofing normally occurs at the beginning BUT an admission at the end could answer his newly found skills and confidence so maybe I am nit picking.

Did suss out the Murderer early on but my other big read is Crime Detective so not an issue.

Super dynamics with all characters. Hayden's Mum is super sweet and yes, us Mum's do look after our grown sons after a nasty break up especially in a close knit family so it was nice touch and added a vulnerable edge to the grumpy drawers Hayden.

Look forward to the next installment which I will definitely read.

Disclaimer: I got this book for free on Kindle. I participated in stuff your kindle day where I got a bunch of romance books for free, roughly 2,000 books. I normally do not read romance books but I wanted to try the genre. I typically read fantasy, science fiction, biographies, and classics so this is way out of my comfort zone. My plan is to draw a book at random without reading the summary, title, and avoiding looking at the cover. As long as the book is not too graphic for me or leads into something uncomfortable, I will be attempting to finish as many of these books as I can in 2024. I understand that many of these books will likely not be top tier but I am hoping that I can learn something about the romance genre as a whole and figure out if any types of books in this genre are for me.

Review: I think the concept behind this book is very cool. A writer who chooses to write about sexual scenarios in such detail that it spawns someone creating this scenarios into murders instead and converts this into a romance murder mystery. Its very intriguing at the face of it. The challenge with this particular book is that the writer left character development behind. The main character doesn't change really and it doesn't seem clear why she writes these books or why it matters to her. The main love interest feels forced at times without any real chemistry and then it just evolves into full on smut scenes. After many chapters of mainly smut, the story gets back on track with trying to solve the murders. However, the main character loses her best friend and then blames the main love interest which doesn't really flow together well. The main character also doesn't compel the reader to feel like she really cares about her best friend. Part of this is that the book gives the reader no reason to care about any of the characters. Overall, its not a terrible book I just feel like the plot was lost too soon for the sake of romance that didn't make sense to begin with.

What a fantastic book! The author immediately drew me into the drama by having her reader's experience the fear and confusion of Amy, the h, being hauled off to the police station without any explanation, and then having her rudely grilled about the erotic books that she writes under a pen name. It gets even more compelling after that when we are introduced to the first in a string of really grizzly murders that have all been staged to imitate scenes from those same books. Hayden is the lead detective on the case, and he feels an immediate attraction to Amy, which he initially resists since it is an active and ongoing case. That doesn't last long, and the two of them begin a torrid and erotic affair, all while trying to keep Amy safe as the killer grows increasingly dangerous to her and everyone she is close to. I do have to admit to not being a huge fan of erotic fiction, so I tended to skim over the frequent graphic sex scenes, but the mystery as to who the killer was kept me turning the pages as quickly as I could. The action is virtually non-stop with the murder scenes coming fast and furious and in sobering detail while the BDSM lifestyle is explained in detail, allowing the reader to fully understand and comprehend all that it entails. While I wasn't sure who the killer was for the majority of the book, I did narrow it down to a couple of possibilities, and I wasn't completely surprised when the identity and motive was eventually revealed. This appears to be a debut novel by Erin Coal, and she has done a bang-up job so far. I can't wait to read the next book in what looks to be a series centering around a BDSM club called Seven Deadly Sins. If the follow-up books are all as good as this first one, this author has a fan for life!

P.S. There is a HEA at the end!

Amy is living a quiet little life when she’s suddenly hauled into the police station for questioning regarding several recent murders that happen to resemble scenes from the books she written. Detective Hayden Whittaker suspects her at first but soon realizes she has nothing to do with the grisly murders. Amy is brought on as a consultant for the case to work with Detective Whittaker. The thing no one has mentioned about the murders is that the scenes are very BDSM and Deteective Whittaker wants Amy to take him to the local sex club Seven Deadly Sins to see if they can get a lead on the murders. Not exactly his scene and Amy is none too please with him being as judgmental as he is about the whole scene.

As bodies keep being discovered they start to wonder if Amy herself is in danger. With no suspects and being somewhat distracted by their newfound relationship they fail to see what is right in front of them until….it’s too late..

The banter between the two of them was a little forced in my opinion. It just didn’t flow as naturally as I expected it to. However when they started hooking up the chemistry started to come out and there was plenty of spice and I never thought I’d say this but.. it had too many spicy scenes. The story got a bit lost amongst all the sex they were having.

This was a decent read for me. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the story and the suspense to figure out who the killer was. The romance that was mixed in was decent but felt a bit OTT at times for such a short period of time. (Not that I’m opposed to a good insta-love romance) it just didn’t hit as true as I would’ve liked for it to. I believe this is Erin’s debut novel so I’m sure the things I didn’t love about the writing will improve with later books. There’s serious potential here I just think it needs a bit more finessing.

Thank you to Katie and Brey PA and Erin Coal for providing me with a digital copy of this book. This is my honest review.

Writing Wrath has a premise that really intrigued me. Handsome cop meets romance writer whose books are being used as inspiration to commit heinous crimes? That sounds like a movie I’d watch immediately, so I was in!
-
I was most drawn by the mystery of it all. And while the mystery aspect remained interesting in the long run, it quickly became overshadowed by the relationship between Amy and Hayden. Which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing! We just didn’t get as much detail as I expected on the investigative side.
-
Sparks were flying between Amy and Hayden almost immediately. Their relationship developed pretty quickly, but even the characters were aware of how fast they were moving. If you’re looking for spice here, you’ll find it! At times it almost felt like Hayden was putting his job aside in favor of sleeping with Amy. His actions were kind of incongruous with his role as a detective. That paired with some grammatical errors made it hard to remain focused at times. The murders and the chemistry between the two always managed to feel me back in.
-
Overall, I think Writing Wrath had an interesting premise, but it wasn’t quite what I was looking for. This was definitely heavier on the romance than the crime and I think it would have greatly benefited from an editor. If you’re looking for a quick read and you want a romance with some thrills, Writing Wrath might be for you.

4/5 spice

A romantic suspense with more smut than plot, but honestly I'm not mad about it.

Tropes:
Detective / Author
Work together
Forced proximity
Over protective MMC
Grumpy/sunshine

Amy and Hayden had a bit of a rocky start but I liked how their relationship developed. It was very clear from the beginning that there was an instant attraction on Amy's part and I'm glad she called him out on his mixed signals. Once they admitted they wanted each other then wham bam the spice went through the ROOF! Holy moly they were all over each other...so much so you forgot they were in the middle of a murder investigation.

The murder mystery was under developed but still delivered some background for the MCs to work together. I honestly think that Amy could have done more to help than just going to each crime scene...and getting traumatized for no reason. I've read books with this kind of premise before and I think it had potential but missed the mark.

The spice saved this book I think. You get a snippet of the second book at the end and I am still intrigued to see what happens. I just know going in it will be more about the spice than the plot.

Overall an entertaining read but just ok on the plot...great in the spice.

I was given an ARC from BookSirens in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given freely.

Trigger Warnings: mild BDSM, graphic descriptions of murder scenes, cheating, on page violence and torture

Writing Wrath, written by Erin Coal is a solid 3.5 star read. The MC is a strong, open-minded, spicy romance author that gets pulled into a serial murder case being based on scenes from her books. Add in a super hot detective, a local BDSM club and some crazy friends and this book is a fun ride. There are plenty of twists and turns so I recommend jumping in and giving it a read.

This is a cool plot twist on the typical author finding romance trope (which I happen to love). We get mystery, really hot spicy scenes, romance and angst all wrapped up in soft restraints which meant I had to keep reading and didn't want to put the book down.

I was confused by some of the characters that switched personality traits. Would someone that is clearly confused and completely lacking in knowledge of the world of BDSM suddenly turn out to be a pleasure dom? I would've liked to see a bit more character development or explanations as to why the character was suddenly different than written in previous chapters. I was also thrown off by law enforcement decisions that would never be allowed or made by career cops but it was never enough to pull me out of the book.

Overall I recommend this book. It's enjoyable and a great start to a series based on the seven deadly sins.

2.5* Unfortunately this book was not for me.

I'll start off with the good points. This author can write a sex scene! And there are a lot of them, so if you're here for the spice, you'll be pleased. The plot was interesting. Female protagonist Amy, is a writer of erotic romance mysteries. Some of the scenes in her novels are being reenacted in real life, resulting in several murders.

However, I think the bad points outweigh the good. I'm not a fan of insta love scenarios. Amy, after being hauled out of her house and placed in a police car by Hayden, the detective in charge of these murders, predictably falls for him. With dialogue such as "..how turned on I was at the thought of taking each piece of Hayden's clothing and claiming him as my hero" within their first encounter.

Hayden seems to be playing at detective and not a very good one. Taking his girlfriend to crime scenes and then going home to have sex with her. Amy does her research for her novels at a sex club, in which several of her high school friends either work at or hang out in, which seems like an unlikely scenario. Hayden, who professes to having no affinity for, or much knowledge in the BDSM lifestyle at this club, suddenly turns stripes and becomes a Dom? Lastly, there were some grammatical errors and more than a few sentences beginning with Erm...or Umm...

I received an ARC from Book Sirens in exchange for an honest review.

3.25⭐️/4 🌶️

Amy is a smutty romance writer whose books are being used as inspirations for a serial killer.

Hayden is the handsome detective on the case that catches Amy’s eye right away but comes off a little gruffly and judgey, not understanding what she writes and where she gets her inspiration from, the BDSM club.

The premise of this book, LOVED. The execution just fell off some. Loved the mystery behind it and once Amy and Hayden got together, they had great chemistry. I think this book would have been at least 4⭐️ if there was a little more angst between the two before the got together and maybe some more focus on the mystery of the crimes happening. The romance kinda overshadowed the really intriguing mystery. It’s not that the romance was bad, most def not, it was hot but it just felt like sometimes the scenes felt force instead of focusing on the murders instead.

There was one part of this book that I had to read three times to make sure I read correctly in how Amy reacted to a major thing happening and she just cried for an hour? I just couldn’t understand that she didn’t try to make one phone call (even tho after the hour she found out she couldn’t call). I am not going to give it away for spoilers, but I think you’ll know when you read it.

If you are looking for a quick, easy, smutty read, this up your alley.

I received an ARC of this book.

Thank you to Book Sirens and Eric Coal for this ARC!

I was really drawn in from the start! Who exactly likes to be hauled into a police station without as much as an explanation to why? This is what happens with Amy at the start. She’s confused, irritated and fearful but then she meets the handsome detective Hayden and all that fear and irritability goes out the window! He’s leading an investigation into a serial killer that is murdering his victims based off on erotic books that Amy writes under a pen name. They go to through each of the gruesome scenes together but they can’t find any connection between her and the victims, until, they do! This is a fast paced story, with the murder scenes one after the other and their connection building off of the amount of time they spend together. Who knew sex on top of a squad car could be so exhilarating! This book won’t let you get a breath in between the solving of the murders and the spicy scenes that you will not see that twist coming at the end! I was really not expecting that since I thought the detective was the one murdering people, but I did really like how it all came together at the end and we understood why it ended the way it did!

Title: Writing Wrath
Author: Erin Coal
Series: The Seven Deadly Sins #1
Rating: ☆☆☆☆

This debut novel by Erin Coal was quite an entertaining, BDSM thriller. The MC, Amy is a spicy-romance author who gets pulled into a serial murder case based on scenes from her book. This story had me hooked with so many twists and turns, interesting characters and of course the sexy scenes.

I loved the tension between the super hot detective and Amy was amazing. I couldn't get enough of all the mystery, really hot, hot spicy scenes, and angst all wrapped together once they decided to get involved with one another. I do wish that Amy would have been more involved with the murder scenes and tried to help more besides just going to the murder scenes. I figured she would have more insight since they were being replicated from her books, but even with that, this book was still good.

I'm definitely hooked after reading Writing Wrath and I can't wait to see where the rest of this series is headed. I think Erin Coal did a good job with her first book in this series.

First off I’d like to say how I really appreciated how the bdsm community was brought into the story. How it should be perceived as a safe place to be. I really like how the writer put everything about that works into the book because I feel like a lot of people forget. To many judgy people out there and not enough information.

However, I did not like how Hayden had NO idea about the world and literally went from one end of that world to the next overnight and became (from what other books I’ve read and my own research) a pretty damn good dom. But I feel like that happened so fast and wasn’t as realistic to me.

Amy was a lot of fun to read but got so much whiplash with her back and forth about what type of guy Hayden really could be.. her “friend” doesn’t help though so that I can understand and how friendships can be such a big influence sometimes.

In all I enjoyed the story and will be continuing with the second one to see what else happens in these stand alone series.

This book was a tough one for me. While the concept was good, I feel like it wasn’t developed to its full potential. I also struggled with the writing style and had a difficult time getting past the number of grammatical errors.

Amy’s level of involvement with the investigation really threw me off. I could not wrap my head around the fact that, as a civilian, she was entering crime scenes as opposed to just being shown photos at the station. And then, she was robbed and is told by her detective boyfriend that the police wouldn’t do anything about it? Come on. That combined with the fact that I didn’t completely buy into Amy and Hayden’s relationship made investing in this book harder. I mean, his mom cleans his house. Negative 100 sexy points.

A playlist is always a plus and there is certainly potential with this story, it just did not hit the mark for me.

Yes the book is steamy. The write up was interesting although, in retrospect, I don't think it is entirely accurate; for example at no time did I get the impression that Hayden was wary due to failed relationship, nor does he seem to have considered Amy as a suspect. I selected this book to read due to murder-mystery aspect.

There is a need for editing but that did not stop me reading the entire book. The idea is great, I did skip over most of the intimate sections, I wanted to know who the murderer was and why.

Amy amuses me big time, Hayden takes some time to warm to, Sophie is a lot of fun, and Amy's BFFs are special.

I enjoyed the criminal component of the book - who is being knocked off and why the similarities to scenes in Amy's books - and would have liked more 'meat' to that story which is why I gave the book three stars.

Ghostwriter Amy writes erotic fiction based on Seven Deadly Sins Private Club run by her long-time friend. A serial killer starts to kill based on her novels and Amy is enlisted to help with the investigation by the hot lead Detective Hayden.

Amy and Hayden have an instant attraction and try to avoid it for a short time. They have lots of sexy times and they find some Dom/Sub tendencies within themselves.

The mystery side of the story is well done, there is lots of drama, intriguing side characters, betrayal and steamy hot passion throughout.

What a great debut novel by Erin Coal it was well written and the twists and turns throughout keep me turning the page.

I read the book in one go and found myself looking forward to book 2 in this series, given the teaser for it at the end of book 1.

Received a copy of this book from the author and @breysreviewtours for a fair and honest review.

To be honest I had a hard time with this book. It has a lot of potential, but I struggled with several things. First, it really needs to be edited, there were quite a few mistakes in the writing that made it frustrating to read. Second, it didn't flow very well. There were quite a few things that didn't make a lot of sense. Third, I was surprised that it was a BDSM book. The description didn't mention it and it could be very offensive to readers if they don't know and don't like that. I found myself wanting to skip several parts of the book because of it.

I loved the concept of the story and I think it had some great twists and turns. With a good editor I think it has a lot of potentials, just be sure to have an accurate description for the readers.

The story might include a murder enquiry for a serial killer. But Police procedure in this book would not hold up to any sort of proper consideration. Rather the book’s focus really revolves around the Seven Deadly Sins private club and the developing relationship between a sexy female author and the male Police officer leading the case who catches her complete attention. The bodies pile up, as the main characters have lots of sexy fun, with clothes lost at mist opportunities. If you start reading this book listen to Erin’s advice at the beginning. What she says about her book is true, it won’t suit everyone. However as a book that has BDSM as a main part of the narrative, it is all really presented inoffensively. Thank you to Erin Cole and BookSirens for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine freely given.

Thank you for a copy of your book to review. Some TW so check them out 🙃 I would recommend this book! Looking forward to the next one. The spice was (Borat voice) very niiiiice 🥵

I was immediately drawn in to the plot and passion that awaited Amy, successful romance writer who experienced anything but what she wrote. When multiple murders begin to reflect the plots of some of her work, enter smoldering Detective who we see has an instalust attraction to the FMC.

I flew through this read, but was confused at some of the character development. Hayden was skeptical of the BDSM world but overnight became a pro. I also found the police investigation to be sidelined for the romance development (but hey, not mad about it).

Murder, mayhem and devastation barrels into our FMC's life in a sleepy little Welsh Town, along with a sexy detective that needs to solve the mystery...

This is a fast-paced book from the get go, and filled with a lot of action!

Once you're hooked, you won't put it down, and if you do, it won't be for very long!

This story is intense with great characters and supporting characters, a very interesting storyline in respect of the crimes and a lot of smut!

The main characters need to work together to unravel the mystery of the gruesome killings and manage their undeniable and explosive feelings for one another!

This is a well written story and will definitely suck you in and get you hot and bothered!

I'm excited for the next one in the series!

Note: Pay close attention to trigger warnings, this book is intended for mature readers aged 18 years and older.

This story was a combination of murder mystery and spicy law enforcement romance with some BDSM elements and a surprising plot twist. Although I kind of squicked out at the crime scene scenes, I still found it to be very interesting and an enjoyable read! Amy was a well-developed character who found her own romance story hero in the lead detective on the homicide case. Hayden is totally ready to show Amy that the books she writes can be more than ideas, and my only complaint is that he didn't go all BDSM on her after that visit to the Seven Deadly Sins club! Homeboy, you got handcuffs... use them!

Overall, I thought the story was well-thought out, and the twist ending really got me. Hayden and Amy had an awesome level of chemistry, and the secondary characters also lent a good bit of depth to the plot.

"Writing Wrath: The Seven Deadly Sins Book 1," by Erin Coal.

What a debut! Can't believe I didn't find this series sooner. This was amazing. This book is the first in the series Seven Deadly Sins which revolves around a criminal investigation about an erptica author and mysterious murders linked to her novels. We jump start our book with our fmc Amy being hauled off to the police station and interrogated by a tall grumpy…. And sexy detective who is leading an investigation who does want to put her in handcuffs just not professionally 👀 We have the suspense of what’s actually happening and the mystery surrounding them, drama, interesting side characters, betrayal and of course the spicy hot tension between the author and detective while they risk their lives for each other. I rated this one ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨. Bring on #PaintingGluttony.

The plot was very interesting cause it was one ive never read before so I was really looking forward to it. But I did feel like the plot was just background noise compared to the romance (all the sex they were having). I would have liked to see Amy being more involved or helping more in trying to solve the murders. The story revolved around the murder mystery but it still felt a little underwhelming. This didn't stop me from reading and enjoying it cause I wanted to know who the murderer was and how it all connected to Amy.

Amy and Hayden felt in love really fast. There was an instant attraction between them. The chemistry and all the sex they had certainly kept me entertained. The side character were amazing and funny really liked all of them.

Amy Jenkins is an erotic novelist. She writes about things she's never experienced. When her books show similarities to a string of murders, she's pulled in to help the police, or maybe she's the main suspect.

Will Amy be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together before she becomes the next victim?

Combining 2 of my favorite generes, mystery and smut, what could go wrong?

First, I didn't expect the spice in this book. I mean, I thought there would be some romance and maybe a little spice, but when I say this was spicy, it was spicy. Like 4 out of 5 peppers.

The spice was on point and the mystery had me guessing until the end.

This is the first of the Seven Deadly Sins series and I can't wait to read the others.

💭: This book is the first of the Seven Deadly Sins series and i can't wait to read all the others. This was a fast paced read. I'm a person who is fine to read SMUT as long as there is a proper plot in place, and this book was just that.

Really enjoyed the suspense of figuring out the killer alongside watching the chemistry & love between the protagonists bloom. I couldn't keep this book down, it kept me hooked from start to finish.

Also, i found the introduction scene between Amy and Hayden's mother hilarious... I was giggling the whole time.

TW: Murder, Gore, Open door s*x, BDSM, torture. Please check all the others before reading.
