Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—award winning author Elisabeth Naughton taught middle school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Elisabeth now writes full-time.
Though primarily known for her romantic suspense work, Elisabeth has penned over thirty books and continues to write in multiple genres, including paranormal romance and contemporary romance. Her books have been translated into numerous languages and have earned several award nominations, including three prestigious RITA® nominations from Romance Writers of America. In 2017, REPRESSED, the first book in her Deadly Secrets series, won the RITA® for best romantic suspense.
Elisabeth's work has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as being filled with "deadly intrigue, high adrenaline action, and scorchingly hot passion.” Kirkus calls her "a writer talented enough at weaving a yarn to get her readers ensnared in it.” When not dreaming up new stories, Elisabeth can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home, wrangling two cats, or chasing after one very rambunctious Dalmatian.
I wanted to give this more stars but there was a lot of stupid stuff going on in this book. It was a bad way to end the trilogy, which was a really good series, especially the first book.
Hailey and Shane got on my nerves for the better part of the book. They constant bickered and there was no real emotional connection. I only felt the sexual chemistry. I don't like that much conflict in my story. Oh, she gets her Aha moment when Lisa tells her what Shane had been through in his life. So now you want to love him? *sarcasm dripping here*
The action didn't pick up right away and there was a lot of nothing really going on. Too many loopholes in the story. Then she threw in a side romance with Billy and Nicole, the Paris Hilton wannabe, who actually was suppose to be smart. WHATEVER!
Then there was the whole thing with Shane not wanting to have kids and at the end there was a baby thrown in there and he was cool with it. Really? Sounds stupid to me!
I liked the twist in the suspense but other than that, I felt cheated out with the last book in this trilogy.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
While both Hailey and Shane were intriguing characters in the previous installments, their own stories fails to live completely up to expectations. Yes, they have solid chemistry but the conflict between them feels forced and some of their decision making is questionable.
The treasure hunt storyline has some exciting moments, but something is missing to make this a truly gripping read. Perhaps it is the fact that the villains are stereotypical caricatures who never seem to pose any real threat.
Despite its lack of originality, Stolen Seduction is a well-written romantic suspense read and a fun way to spend a rainy day.
Stolen Fury and Stolen Heat by this author were both four star reads for me. Even though I enjoyed Stolen Seduction, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. My biases will be showing here because I don't enjoy reading characters who constantly snipe at each other, and this book was chocked full of antagonistic relationships. No one seemed to be able to get along, including the H/h for much of the book. I admit that made me put the book down for two days before picking it back up to finish it. I finally got caught up in the suspense plot, but felt strangely unsatisfied by the solution to the mystery. Overall a fine read by an above average romantic suspense author, but not her best.
This is my second read through this book! I juat had to reread it before moving onto number 4 in the series to refresh the players in case we see them again. It was just as good or better the second timw through. The mystery and murders are so intriguing i had forgotten some key elements. Bravo Elizabeth I loved it!
Hailey Roake is an heiress to a hotel empire (even if it is reluctantly), but as far as she's concerned she's a beat cop (a job she admits she's not particularly good at), a job she pursued while turning her back on her family’s money and influence.
Then Hailey’s father turns up dead from an apparent heart attack and her cousin Brian ends up mysteriously murdered and Hailey is thrust right back into the middle of a family scandal as the prime suspect in a double homicide with motive (her inheritance is on the line) and opportunity (she just happened to break into the house where Brian was staying the night he was murdered).
Chicago PD detective Shane Maxwell and Hailey have a past history. They met three months prior at his twin sister and Hailey’s ex-husband’s wedding (see Naughton’s 1st book in the series Stolen Fury 5 star review from me).
Major sparks were flying between these two when they 1st met and Shane hasn’t been able to get the blond spit-fire out of his head over the last few months. So no one is more surprised than Shane when he discovers Hailey at his neighbourhood Chicago bar one night, or that they share a steamy kiss which her puts a halts to before it can get out of hand (Shane has some personal demons he is battling which actually play a key role as his relationship with Hailey escalates), or that after she’s returned home to Florida, he discovers she's the prime suspect in a murder investigation he has been assigned to.
Although Shane is dealing with a lot of his own issues as this tail unfolds and as he struggles to work through his personal challenges, he risks everything in his professional life to help Hailey prove her innocence.
As in Naughton’s previous two books in the series, the action is non-stop and the murder mystery is forefront in this novel, but there is plenty of romance as well. Shane and Hailey have sex and lots of it and even share a particularly steamy episode of angry sex. This book is chock full of bickering, bantering and witty dialogue as Hailey tries to assert her independence and Shane tries to control his need to protect her.
Shane and Hailey face down gun-totting killers, poisoned sweet-tea and a leg gripping encounter with an alligator as they try to find the real killer, stay alive and solve a treasure hunting puzzle to see who will win the ultimate prise of control over Roake Enterprises.
I was so glad after reading the 1st book in the series Stolen Fury that Shane and Hailey were getting their own story I admit to letting out a little “squeeeeee” and Naughton did not disappoint with Stolen Seduction. This is a stand alone book and although it’s not necessary to have read the first two books in the series, previous characters do make cameo appearances.
Pick up this book is you want a non-stop, fun, sexy read!
It was so well put together. There were a lot of characters in this book to keep track of. The Mother, sister, uncles, cousins etc… you get the picture. Each one was written so well. There were twist and turns just with the characters as the plot developed.
The plot. Met all my requirements, LOTS and LOTS of action. Location changes, Chicago, Florida, The Islands. There is a strong female lead without being bitchy. A great hero faults and all. Murder mystery and intrigue. A dangerous treasure hunt.
You can pick up this book and read it but both Hailey and Shane go back a few books and really their story starts there. They so needed their own story. They had their own special brand of angst and conflict that worked for me.
Hailey could have been spoiled but to some degree she turns her back on wealth and is a cop. She’s Indians Jones ! Shane is a bit of a jerk but that gets worked out and explained throughout the story.
The end of the book is a bit of a frenzy with many plot turns and new characters being introduced. It worked for me. At the end you can keep track, but it’s a trick, of all the affairs and lies.
Lets see, Shane is Lisa Maxwell’s twin. Lisa Maxwell is married to Rafe, Rafe is also Hailey’s ex. Billy is Rafe’s brother and dating Hailes’s sister Nichole. ( Billy and Nichole was like an added bonus in the story) Talk about a mismatched family !
Elizabeth Wiley Narrated this book and did a fabulous job. With so many different voices she got all the characters perfect. I totally enjoy her voice.
This is my first book from Elisabeth Naughton and definitely not the last one. It is an easy and fun read. And indeed a bit in the mood of Indiana Jones movies which I definitely like.
Hailey's father in his will decides that his company will be handed over to the family member who will collect six special statues. A brutal race to gain an advantage begins. Hailey who has never been interested in the family business is in danger when someone tries to kill her and then she becomes the main suspect in the death of her cousin. Who is waiting for her death? She can only count on the help of policeman Shane Maxwell.
I really enjoyed the whole story, the plot is very engaging and full of twists. It is not very probably but highly enjoyable. I generally like the characters, although sometimes Hailey drove me crazy with her conviction that she knows everything better and needs no one. I did not like the ending either, I think Hailey should come to Shane and not him. He does everything right, he tells the right things and she still rejects him and breaks his heart just because she thinks she knows everything better.
Like I said, this is a good book and I'm curious about the other stories in this series.
Three's the charm! This was the best of the bunch and each was a great read. Can't wait to see what Naughton has next up. Shane and Hailey made an entertaining couple even with all the complex baggage they each carried. A bit angsty for those who shun it!
Wow, I think this book is my favorite in the series.
Shane and Hailey two very complex people because of things in their past. They had off the charts chemistry but one of the other always seemed to hold back some.
This book was so action packed and so many characters involved you just could not put down.
Trust me you root for Shane and Hailey the whole time until you think they are better if alone or are they?
This is the third book in the series and just as good! The characters are enjoyable, the women independent, the men protective, and the action intense. The murder of Hailey 's cousin must be solved to settle inheritance issue of Roark Resorts. Many people have secrets and it is difficult to know whom to trust and believe. It is exciting, funny, adventurous, and steamy romantic --- a great conclusion to the romances of four couples!
Another really great story but I’m pretty sure the R was stuck on the keyboard because there are a ton of words missing an R. Also lots of missing words like the author was trying to get the story typed but never went back to proofread and add missed words.
The last book in the trilogy features a hero and heroine that were first introduced in Stolen Fury, book one. Hailey Roarke is the ex-wife of Rafe, hero of book one. Shane Maxwell is the brother of Lisa Maxwell, heroine from book one. So we have already met both h/h in previous books. Hailey is a character I liked from the first time she appeared in Stolen Fury. Shane, eh, a bit on the overprotective side and very bossy. But he grew on me.
Hailey Roarke wanted nothing to do with her family's hotel empire. She gets pulled back in when her father dies and leaves a few interesting stipulations in his will. She tells herself her stint in the family business is only temporary, just until she gets the terms of the will cleared up. She's really a cop in Florida but... she admits she's not really good at that either. Her career life is in a bit of turmoil. And her personal life isn't much better. She is friends with her ex-husband, so that's always good. And there was this guy she met a few months ago but nothing really came from that. Then Hailey finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her cousin, a real ass, is found dead and the police have some questions for Hailey. One of the detectives is especially interested in Hailey. And he just happens to be "that" guy.
There's a bit of a soap-opera feel with all the different character connections but it's not a bad feeling just a lot of coincidences of how all their lives are intertwined. Shane Maxwell, brother to Dr. Lisa Maxwell who is married to Rafe Sullivan, Hailey's ex. Shane is, of course, the Chicago police detective with a special interest in Hailey. They've met before and while there were some sparks, neither made the move to take things all the way. Now they're both involved in the murder investigation of Hailey's cousin. And what the heck is with her father's crazy will? According to the will, Hailey going to have to jump through some hoops to keep the company out of the wrong hands. She's not happy about it but it willing to search for the treasure her father wanted/hoped she'd find.
The relationship between Hailey and Shane is very volatile. They don't trust each other and under the circumstances, don't always like each other. But that spark is still there and the more time they spend together the stronger it gets. There was a surprising amount of animosity between the two, I had to wonder how they would get past it. But they did and Naughton made it work. Shane is a natural protector and now he's into protecting Hailey while he's also trying to sort things out and get to the truth of what happened. He knows Hailey is lying to him, hiding something, and being a good detective he's determined to find out. Hailey is used to looking out for herself and resents Shane's intrusion. It becomes a situation where they have to work together to resolve both of their problems.
The murder mystery coupled with a treasure hunt made for an exciting ride. I liked how Naughton incorporated the police crime solving and the treasure hunting to make a cohesive story line that had both facets of mystery and adventure. We also got to revisit with characters from the two previous books which was fun. A quick read and a good end for the trilogy.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy by Ms. Naughton. She keeps a perfect balance between the suspense and the romance to give a reader one heck of a read in each book. I’m sorry to see it all come to an end, but with my enjoyment of these books also comes autobuy status of this author for me from here on out, and I know she’s working on a new series, so there’s still a lot of anticipation to be had. She’s one of a few lately who are drawing me back into romantic suspense, and she’s doing it so very well.
We met both Shane and Hailey in the previous books in this series, and things were hot between them from the beginning. Ms. Naughton gave me a little bit of a scare when it looked like perhaps these two wouldn’t get together after all. Happy to say she didn’t mess with that chemistry that bubbled over whenever they were in scenes together.
Hailey is a cop, mostly to stay out of the family business but lately because she loves it. However, she’s giving that career a rest at her father’s request to become CEO of Roarke Resorts. In the midst of all of this, her father is hospitalized and is subsequently murdered, with the culprits pinning the crime on Hailey. She’s now on the run to find the sixth statue of the Last Seduction in a crazy treasure hunt orchestrated by her father in his will and also to stay one step ahead of the law so she can clear her name.
As luck would have it, Shane is one of the detectives working her father’s case. He doesn’t think Hailey capable of cold-blooded murder, but he still has to do his job. And when he finds she’s keeping secrets, doubt begins to creep in. But when it’s either take her in in cuffs or join her in her search, he opts for keeping her out of jail for the time being, hoping they can find those responsible.
The action never dies down, the romance/sex heats up something fierce, and the mystery takes it own time coming to light. Hailey takes no crap from anyone, not even Shane, and that’s one of the reasons he’s attracted to her. He, however, has too many secrets that will get in the way of anything more between them but he’s also sexy as hell. I also like that the characters from the first two books make appearances here and help Shane and Hailey as best they can.
This third book is actually my favorite of the series, but the trilogy is well worth the read, especially if you’re a fan of romantic suspense. If you’re not that keen on it, try these books anyway. You will wonder what took you so long to pick them up.
This is defintitely by far my favorite of the series. For me it done everything right from the beginning to the end, so that I sometimes could hardly put the book away, cos I really wanted to know what's going to happen next.
I liked Shane and Hailey when I got to know them in the 1st book and was really excited when I found out that they would get their own book, as I hadn't no idea how those two would get together. But their story was full of tension right from the start and again the interactions between the characters were spot on. If I thought I really liked Rafe, oh hell, was I wrong. Shane Maxwell totally fit my pattern, always on a mood, quite a temper and comes with a big package. I probably could never handle such a guy in real life, but in books a girl can enjoy. But I have to admit that sometimes Haley and Shane could be very frustrating with their stubborness and unwillingness to do compromises, like Hailey admitting that sometimes she needs help and Shane admitting that she doesn't always need saving. I liked the fact, that it took so much effort to get both of them together and I also like the fact that even Shane was better in the end, he still wasn't right.
The Plot was good too and even the were at more than a couple places throughout the story I never had the feeling the plot was rushed. It has the right pace, so you could enjoy a break, but never got bored. But I still don't really get why her mother did all the things she did, I always waited for a clear answer and the one that she just was a control freak didn't satisfiy me at all. I guess that made her doings even worse.
I also liked the side story between Billy and Nicole. I actually wouldn't have mind to get their own book.
Rounding out the STOLEN series, is Stolen Seduction, the story of Hailey Roarke, introduced as Rafe's ex-wife in Book 1, and Chicago PD Detective Shane Maxwell, also introduced in Book 1 as Lisa's twin brother.
Hailey, an ex-cop from Key West with a family that put the "dys" in dysfunctional, has been thrust into the position of head of her late father's corporation. When she meets Shane again on a trip to Chicago, and is rejected by him again, events are set in motion to frame her and force Shane to make a choice about her and what she means to him.
Hailey battles the bad guys as much as she battles emotional issues created by her grasping, selfish family. That kind of emotional conflict is hard for some readers to understand and to realize that it makes a person --real or fictional -- question every relationship that comes along. That makes it hard to take anyone on faith.
What makes this book and the series work?
As with the other two books, Stolen Seduction features strong characterization, believable secondary characters, good plots, excellent emotional conflict that keeps the lovers apart, and riveting sexual attraction between the characters that makes their inevitable consummation believable.
The sexual tension is intense -- just as it should be. The heroes are testosterone-fueled yet sensitive to the women they love -- to all her needs, not just sexually, but to what she needs emotionally and what she needs to be happy with who she is.
This series was great, and that's hard for an author to pull off. Highly recommended.
The third and final story in the romantic suspense trilogy by this debut author. This story is Shane Maxwell and Hailey Roarke's story. An unlikely couple when you think of how they know each other, but not at all an unlikely pairing. Shane is the twin brother of Lisa Maxwell who was the lead in Stolen Fury, the first book of the series, so he's been a secondary character in the first two books already. Hailey is the ex-wife of Rafe Grant, the male lead of Stolen Fury and Lisa Maxwell's new husband! So basically, Lisa's twin brother hooks up with her husband's ex-wife. Sounds crazy... but it works and is a perfect pairing.
Both Shane and Hailey have a lot of personal issues to deal with. Shane's issues come from his career as a Chicago Police Detective and choices and mistakes he's made there that haunt him. Hailey's issues come primarily from her extremely dysfunctional family and while she has done well to keep her head above water, the secrets and betrayals in her family run deep enough to cause her some serious problems. Their strength, determination, and will do to the right thing keep them going and keep them together solving the mystery of who is trying to set Hailey up for the murder of her cousin. The crime gets more complicated as the story goes on, as does the relationship between Shane and Hailey. Their road to a happily ever after is a bumpy one, but the ending is so worth it. Very sweet, hopeful and true to their characters. Stolen Seduction is a great ending to this exciting, danger filled suspense.
My first E. Naughton book was one of the Aegis books. I don't normally like books in a series because most of the time they can't hold a candle to the first one and get progressively worse with each follow up. Not the case with Ms. Naughtons books. Each book gets better and better. Each book leaves you wanting more & more. Ms. Naughtiness has a way with weaving a mystery that pulls you in instantly. I have yet to be disappointed with any of her books and look forward to reading more. The editing in each book has been great and above most that I've read. I did notice one in this book that is blatantly obvious. When Hailey & Shane visit Uncle Graham he serves them "sweet" tea. I particularly remembered this because I live in the south. I grew up thinking I never liked tea until my brother married a Yankee and she drank unsweetened tea that I tried once and found that I really did like tea just not "sweet" tea. Anyway, reference is made later in the book about their visit to Uncle Graham and that he served them a refreshment but it incorrectly states it was lemonade. Then reference is made again about this and again they reference lemonade. This is the only error I was able to pick up and even then it didn't cause any major problems in the storyline. All in all an excellent book and worth my time and money to read it. Keep them coming Ms. Naughton as I look forward to reading more of your novels.
Grudgingly hotel heiress Hailey Roarke agrees to do her father a favor especially after he promises to not ask anything else ever. And even if Hailey doesn't want to live off her inheritance that doesn't mean her greedy, lazy, mean cousin and her manipulative frienemy can have it. Now that both her father and cousin are dead and the clues point to her, Hailey only has two options to prove her innocence.
Following the clues for her father's quest eliminates most of Hailey's issues. Her inheritance would be resolved, the bronze statues could be the key to an open murder and it'd keep her out of jail. Unfortunately the best person to help Hailey is her ex-husband's brother in law, Shane Maxwell and fortunately the sparks that flew between them three months ago are ready to ignite.
Hailey and Shane's hook-up ties this series neatly. However, this reader had a bit of an issue with the geography and the pacing but even more of an issue with the lack of discernible chemistry between the leads. The constant bickering and frequent sex around the globe didn't equate as passion for this readers taste, it was too often and to annoying. Rating:3stars
Why oh why did I finish reading this book? Oh yes, because I always had hope that it somehow may get better. Which - gaps! - it actualy did after page 200 or so. Yup, I was also surprised. Though I have to say at that point I already skipped pages. Not that I missed anything.
The thing is the actual story isn't _that_ bad. The idea at least. Though I know from the very beginning what was behind the statues and all. Seriously, that was way too oobvious. Which I could live with. But the real story just needed too many pages to finally start. At page 150 I was already dead annoyed. Nothing really happens! Not even the so called romance made it better. Maybe because the hero and heroine were kinda blah and boring. And very stereotypical. *snore*
And even the solution at the end of this so called "thriller" (lmao!) was sooo stupid and I didn't buy it for a minute. It felt like Naughton had no idea what to come up with. Same with the ending. OMG, could it have been any more worse? I guess not.
Glad I am done with this book. Not sure if I will read book 2 now after two highly bad books in this series.
Looking for adventure and romance? Look no further than this trilogy, which I like to describe as a very grown-up 39 Clues! Hailey Roarke leaves her job as a Florida police officer to run the family business in Chicago. Her father's death starts a chain-reaction of events all surrounding a quest to find some missing statues. Hailey is on the search when she accidentally-on-purpose runs into the hunky cop Shane Maxwell. Their brief romantic moment makes things complicated the next morning when he arrives to question her as a murder suspect.
Here the tale takes some surprising twists-and-turns as the pair flies from country to country in search of answers in. Full of action, romance, and true emotion, this is definitely a book you won't want to put down and you'll race to track down the others before time runs out!
I won this audio book through GoodReads First Read program.
Wasn't a big fan of the personalities of either Shane or Hailey. Most of the book was snippy back and forth between them. No real story and mostly soft core porn till the last 5 chapters or so then Naughton tried to cram a lot of facts in to wrap the story up.
I am also not a big fan of audio books unless you can polish off the book in a couple of days on a long trip. This book was 11 hours. I had a 3 hour drive so I thought I would be able to polish off a lot of it driving to and from my point of destination. Then it was another week of driving to and from work trying to finish the book. Lots of starts and stops in the story don't make a good read.
I also think I should have read the first two of the series. I don't like jumping in in the middle but with the long trip decided now was the time. Should have waited.
Hailey has to find six bronze statues to figure out her fathers will. She left the police department to run the family resort business when her father got ill. Now if she wants to keep the business she has to solve the riddle of the will. But while looking for one of the statues she becomes the person of interest in her cousins death. Now of course Shane has to be the cop who gets to investigate her. There are sparks that fly anytime they get close to each other. They fall hard and fast for each other but can they stay alive long enough to solve the puzzle her father has left for her. This book has so many twists and turns it keeps your interest from the beginning to the end.
What an awesome finish to this great series. I fell in love with these people right from the start and I was SO looking forward to Shane and Hailey's story that it made this book that much better that it already is. And let me tell you how good this was: romance and a whole lot of emotions just keep getting you off balance with the not knowing if things are going to turn out okay, the action and the crazy plot that always has a twist in the end and the incredible characters that made this series what it is: pure gold.
Eh. This is one of those books where I walked away in the end saying, "Eh." I didn't hate it but it didn't make me want to run out and read every other book by this author. Major spoiler but I will say at least the surprise pregnancy was handled fairly well so I didn't find myself annoyed. At least it was due to antibiotics and birth control not we got so excited by the heat of the moment we forgot birth control. That drives me crazy. I guess I would says its a good in between read. While you are waiting for the next release from your favorite author you can read this.
I liked this book, which incorporates characters from previous books in the trilogy, but I should note that the mysteries in each story are separate and unrelated. This one features the romance between a Chicago cop ready to break and a Florida cop temporarily running her father's business while participating in a treasure hunt to gain control of the company. There is alot of family drama, hormones, and angst, but somehow the book didn't take itself too seriously. A good escape read.
