A poetic celebration of a world full of possibilities, and the beauty of a million things to be and do. Go on a journey across oceans and mountains, gift smiles while traveling far, and find magic in the skies above.
I could look for magic
or find a million stars.
I could be a helper
or cross the deep blue sea . . .
but my favorite thing in all the world
is choosing to be me.
I Could Be A Million Things is a beautifully illustrated ode to what surrounds us and the inspiration to be found in nature, dreams, and the power we all carry inside of us.
A beautifully illustrated, poetic picture book about a world full of possibilities. For jacks- and jills-of-all-trades ages 4 years and up.

I have always stayed away from poetry. It scared me in a way. So I am taking baby steps to broaden my horizons. A poetry books for children. Perfect combination. Also I am always looking for inspirational books I can introduce to work. I am working with mentally disabled people and children’s book are perfect!
Also, the book features a cat as well as a little girl. I love cats!
The illustrations are beautifully done. The poems are short and motivational. You can be anything and anyone if you want. The world is your oyster. The message is beautiful, for little boys and girls equally.
My only critique is the font. I read it on my mobile. It was smallish and the colour could have been better. Maybe black instead of Grayson? I had a bit trouble. That’s my only critique I had.
This is an amazing inspirational and self-help picture book for children.
This is the story of a girl who wanted to be many things, say million, in her words. She roam around nature and found her inspiration from her. She dreamt and found her inspiration there. She had shown for how we all carry a kind of power which drives only from within and not outside. One must always be positive and keep possibility on getting the things done.
Best part of her poetic journey, for me was:
I could look for magic or find a million stars. I could be a helper or cross the deep blue sea . . . but my favorite thing in all the world is choosing to be me.
This is a very realistic approach to let one get ready to work on themselves to achieve whatever they want. Not just children but even adults could be inspire from these words.
*Illustrations were amazing too, however I found difficulty while reading it on Kindle due to some display or editing/formatting issues.
A lovely ode that celebrates life, ourselves and a world that never ceases to wonder. The beautiful artwork and lyrical text go well together. This is a charming book brimming with both positivity and possibilities that will appeal to young readers.
Thank you to Clavis Publishing for the Netgalley ARC.
I could make a million wishes because wishes do come true, and when I'd finished wishing I'd help others wish big too.
I Could Be a Million Things is a gorgeously illustrated children's picture book about a girl pondering, in a laudably mature way, the millions of things she could be in this world. Will she choose to be a thinker? To be kind? To soar high above the clouds? The great thing here is that she can be all those things, if only she chooses to, but the best choice she can make is first to be herself.
I see this as a highly gift-worthy selection, for anyone young or old who's looking for some direction in life and reassurance that choosing to be true to yourself is a valuable choice.
From Miss Seven: "I really liked it because it says you can be loads of things, and you don't have to be one thing you can be loads of things. My favourite page was the one with loads of books on it, because that's like me. I love reading and books and stories. I also liked the page where she was under the ocean because I like water and water creatures and ocean and fish and rivers and lakes. I liked that it was a rhyming story. The drawings look like paintings. I would like to buy this book, and I think my school library should have it because loads of people would like to read it."
From me: a lovely rhyming tale that's more poetic and thoughtful than the zany/funny rhymes of some other kids books. Lovely, understated illustrations that have a painting-like quality. A really good book with a wonderful message that was cool to read along with Miss Seven, who really really loved it even if it's not as vibrant/zany in style/content as many of her other favourite kids books.
A delightful and beautiful poetry book for children sure to inspire many a child to dream big and believe in their aspirations. The power of one is great and there is nothing more powerful or greater than the imagination of a child. A truly worthy addition to any book collection.
Mooi geïllustreerd prentenboek over duizend-en-een dingen die je zou kunnen zijn, doen, ontdekken... Maar dat er maar een van die dingen de mooiste is.
Who doesn't love a book about all the possibilities in life? A book that encourages students to think of all the things they can be, the things they can do, the avenues they can take in life. This book is written in poetry which is harder for many elementary students to connect with, but the message in the poetry is clear and easy for younger students to understand. The message discusses that there are a million things that we can be but being ourselves is the best. There are endless discussion possibilities for students in the classroom to discuss. Endless ways to connect their dreams with the positivity in themselves. What traits would make them a good teacher? What strengths do they have that would help them make a great architect? etc. The illustrations in this book are very calm but appealing. Thank you, NetGalley for an e-reader copy of this book.
Absolutely love this delightful little book - adorable images of a little girl and her cat and motivating, rhyming words of all the things a little girl (or boy) could be. I am a Grandma of 11 grandchildren and I can't wait to read it to the 6 that are 9 and under. When you read, don't rush it. Children will want to explore the delightful pictures before you turn the page, and the older ones will want to read it themselves and ponder and think of all the things they could be. Actually, I want to read it again myself right now!
Thanks to Net Galley and Clavis Publishing for making an ARC of this book available to me, and thanks to the author, Jessy Humann for writing it and Maarten Arys for the amazing illustrations. #NetGalley, #Clavispublishing
One of those warm-hearted affirmations you get to come across now and again – if you're lucky enough. This features a young girl and her cat exploring the world through large images, with a rhymed four-line verse each time. With her soaring through space, being a poet and travelling by gypsy caravan, teaching courtesy a cityscape full of books, or any number of other possibilities, she shows us all we can be what we want, as long as we want to be us and nothing and nobody else. I did think at one point the text wasn't a match for the artwork, but this is so beautiful very little indeed actually would be. Gorgeous in both mindset and design, this is as close to five full stars as makes no difference.
This rhyming picture book tells about all of the things a little girl imagines she could be. Each page follows the same text patterns, making it predictable and fairly easy to read. The text is thin and is black on white or light colour backgrounds, making it. a bit hard to read at times, but not too bad. The illustrations are beautiful and captivating. I think that children would really enjoy this book. I would recommend it for parents and teachers of children in the age 4-7 range. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read this book!
Can you imagine? Can you find delight? Can you enjoy yourself? The storyline is simple and the illustrations by Maarten Arys are fun, simply beautiful, colorful, and delightfully imaginative. Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or public library! I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Clavis Publishing via NetGalley. Thank you!
A beautiful, poetic picture story that gives the reader inspiration and hope! In this book, children can see on the pages the variety of opportunities that they have in learning about themselves, the world and growing. There are scenes that offer a number of chances to travel from their couch! Thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for an advanced copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own!
This book not only has stunning art but the writing is absolutely beautiful. The pictures alone are beautiful with so much detail adding words just makes it better. I love the point of the story being happy with yourself and being able to offer so much to the world. Beautiful book I would love for my kids to read it!
This picture book has fanciful illustrations and simple, rhyming text. Instead of focusing on career choices, the book focuses on different life experiences. Some of them are realistic, and others are fantastical. The book feels soothing and imaginative, and encourages kids to wonder and dream.
I received a temporary digital copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was very thoughtful and cute! It had a storybook quality to it that was interesting in both the text and the illustrations. It gave the book a whimsical appeal, but also was rooted in a very real idea to keep: I could be a million things.
Thank you to NetGalley for making this available in exchange for an honest review.
I loved everything about this book. I read it with my 11 month old and throughly enjoyed it with her. The illustrations are beyond beautiful as well. Very happy with this net galley come up and would love to own a physical copy
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Wonderfully enjoyable children's book! Inspiring story, written in a flowing style that the littles can easily follow. Beautiful art work that compliments the story perfectly.
This was quite a lovely read. The story rhymes and it takes you through a journey of all the things a child could be when they grow up. I don’t mean things like a fireman or a doctor but things like kind be a thinker be a traveler. It was lovely and lyrical, and the illustrations have this soft, so realistic quality that is just enjoyable to turn every page. in this daily edition, the words can be a tad hard to read and some of the pages they need to be a heavier in bigger, but overall lovely. When are things I constantly comment on in picture books is cadence and when books try to rhyme but lose the cadence. I love that this book you feel a pattern but it’s not a true cadence, so it doesn’t feel like it’s missing. Overall, this book was simply lovely and I could see it being a standard for story times for years to come.
