A steamy novella for lovers of Contemporary and Regency Romance...
Savannah loves nothing more than a good romp in the sack. If she’s not doing it with her paraplegic gamer boyfriend, Arcas, she’s at the very least daydreaming about it, preferably with a duke from the 19th century. Her overactive imagination means she can’t help but fantasize about the R-rated pastimes of the peerage, adding her own scintillating scenes to her favorite historical romance, Love and Honor.
By day, she dreams about the commanding Duke of Maddern and his seduction of Miss Emmaline Collins, the innocent, headstrong beauty whose heart he broke long ago. By night, she embarks on a year-long sex to experience and document her wild bedroom antics in her online blog, Sexcapades.
But when her conservative past threatens her newfound freedom, Savannah must find the courage to stay the course. Hovering between Regency England and modern-day Melbourne, she begins a journey of sexual exploration that no one had seen coming.
Not even her trusty little Rabbit.
AUTHOR'S This ends with a HFN but still contains a minor cliffhanger...
A quick read and steamy novella. After growing up in a repressive because of religion household, Savannah a librarian, wants to experience her sexual side. She lives with Arcus, a professional gamer and computer analyst. He is supportive and encourages her to write about her experiences on a blog. She also loves fictional Regency romances and imagines steamy scenes as if she were one of the characters in her favorite book. This book is setting up the series and includes some intimate scenes real and imagined. The inclusion of historical fiction is a fun change of pace and fits the librarian image. This is the first in a series of novellas following the couple and is already available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. There isn’t a lot of time for character development beyond basic set up. There is an ending moment but the story finishes open as the series continues in March. I received my copy courtesy of NetGalley and BooksGoSocial in exchange for an honest review.
This book was just okay for me. I found that although it says regency romance, it actually isn't. The regency romance part was the fantasies Savannah had role playing characters from her favorite romance novel, which was unique. I understand this is a novella, but there just wasn't any character development. I've read novellas where there's some kind of character development and I get to know the characters a little more. This was just filled with Savannah's fantasies and sex scenes. I don't mind sex scenes, but there was just something off about it. I even started to skim the sex scenes because I grew bored with them. I do appreciate the inclusion of alter-abled sexual partners and the alternating storylines between contemporary and regency. However, this just didn't hold my interest and fell flat for me. I will not continue with this series.
Storyline involving Savannah who gives sex-capades on her podcasts while comparisons to her favorite historical romance is in a open relationship with Arcas her computer analyst boyfriend who is a expert ‘gamer.’ Savannah also is a bartender an Librarian which helps keeps the bills paid. Arcas a paraplegic endorses Savannah to explore her sexuality with threesomes, an toys that fulfill every hole in your body.
The Duke - his Grace catches the poor spinster (Emmaline)Gentleman’s Daughter in a compromising position, while thinking of the Duke. I learned about toys that I would not embark on however erotica is a big business. I however could not follow the storyline an didn’t enjoy this novel. It was too much going on to focus on the storyline. I was encouraged to look up a BDSM blog. This honest review was given for a ARC.
The book delivered exactly what it was expected to. I like that it makes the effort to appeal to contemporary romance lovers and to those who love historical romances. Very spicy. Proceed at your own risk. Youngsters not allowed.
Cliffhanger: Minor cliffhanger. There is a second book coming out soon. This novella ends with an HFN
POV: 3rd, Dual
Relationship: M/F/M
Trope(s): ✔️ Enemies to Lovers ✔️ Alpha ✔️ Virgin ✔️🍑 play ✔️FF/MFM ✔️type of voyeurism
Triggers: N/A
Such a quick read was the right amount of spice. Lovers love regency romance and contemporary romance will like like this book. Can’t wait to read more of her journey of sexual exploration.
I really like this book because it was on another level. Seeing her take control of her sexuality and having no shame is the best read. Usually Other books they make woman be so shameful. I can’t wait for another book like this.
So I'll say this once, and I'll continue to say it! This is an amazing Sex positive book, with your FMC exploring her sexual desires with the AMAZING support of her gamer boyfriend! She starts a blog and her handle/sign off is The Gamer Girlfriend which I thought was awesome!
This was a unique book for me because it's a mix of contemporary romance/regency romance that I haven't come across before! (read it and you'll see what I mean)
I was pleasantly surprised with how much character development this book managed to pack into 80 pages that are, let's face it, mostly spice. To me, the mark of really good spicy romance is that it uses sex scenes to further character development just as much as any standard scene, and I really felt that was the case here. I felt invested in Savanah by the end of the novella and kept thinking about where her story might go next after I put it down I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Like, I had to rearrange my entire weekend because there was NO WAY I was leaving my house until I'd finished. Family dinner? Catch up with friends? I needed to know about Savannah, and what was going on between Emmaline and the Duke.
I love how the author creates such diverse characters - Savannah is on a sexual awakening and her gamer boyfriend Arcas is all for it. They're both such assertive characters. I love how she mixes contemporary with Regency. I have a bad habit of skimming dual storylines, but here I wanted to read all about Emmaline and the Duke of Maddern - the Duke is so deliciously commanding - and how Emmaline's awakening is a reflection of Savannah's.
I can't wait to keep reading the rest of the series and learn more about both Savannah and Emmaline. I get the feeling that there is way more to Savannah and what is driving her sexual awakening. And Emmaline - damn girl, you need to make that Duke come to heel!
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this ebook, and this is my freely given opinion.
This is a very different story from what I am used to in how it is written; the first part of a three (?) part serial. I can definitely say that I can see how it would not be for everyone, as it is such a mesh of differing things - including contemporary erotica with a historical fictional story, in part, within, sexual exploration, with menage scenarios, a paraplegic lover, and family issues with a religious guilt component.
The story is in the present, about Savannah, a young woman living with her paraplegic boyfriend. She is a bartender, and he is a gamer. She has an active fantasy sex life, which often focuses around her favourite historical romance. Interspersed in her story is parts of the historical story, including her reimagining of it. Savannah's partner, Arcas, is open and encouraging her Savannah exploring her sexual boundaries and encourages her to blog about her experiences, and participates in them with her. There are quite graphic scenarios of their sexual experimentations and experiences.
VERY graphic - so be warned.
Mixed into this is reflection about her uber-religious family and how they have influenced and guilted her in the past and her escape from them, and her present day conflict with them, and her feelings about them.
There is a LOT happening in the few pages of this novella and there is no conclusion as it is part of a serial.
I tend to like to stick to historicals with a occasional foray into other genres, so I have to say that what I am drawn to are the historical snippets interspersed in this novella. The story of the Duke of Mardden and innocent Lady Emmeline, who are the focus of Savannah's fantasy life. At several points I was wishing it was a real and separate story on it's own as I would read it (rather like Donna Lea Simpson's Love and Scandal, and how she did put out Last Days of a Rake, which was the story written by the female MC in Love and Scandal).
But it was enough of a hook to draw me in and now I kind of want to read the rest of the serial - to get more of the fantasy historical... and perhaps to find out what happens with the family issues. The smutty sex of Savannah, Arcas, and others is a bit of a graphic sex bonus and interesting, but ultimately not so important to me as part of the story.
This novella feels like somebody's therapy journal and I don't mean that in a negative way. There's a lot going on in this book. We've got our main character Savannah, or Van, and her paraplegic boyfriend, Arcas; the storyline of her reading a regency era romance novel with a Duke and a maiden that has been the source of her fantasies since she discovered it as a sheltered teen; and then there is the online journal that she keeps of her personal sexcapades And desires. So three different storylines happening within 81 pages of a novella and yet it works.
Savannah and Arcas have a non-traditional open relationship, whether it is just who they are or because he is in a wheelchair, I don't know. And really it doesn't matter. It is who they are and the reader accepts it. They don't need to justify it to us. The character and their relationship opened my eyes to a diverse character and how he gives and receives sexual pleasure.
Van's relationship with Arcas is very different from the way she was raised in a very strict, almost radically, religious home. I found this off-putting at first and thought, "here we go again, bashing religious people" but then the author expands and shows that her parents were not the typical Sunday-church goers but are actually verbally and emotionally abusive to Savannah in the name of religion and attempted to force her into an arranged marriage against her will. All of this is used to show her growth and depth. She has moments where she misses her family but knows they are toxic and abusive. And just like most children, she still desired their love and approval.
This is written as erotica or an erotic romance. There are multiple scenes that are very descriptive and explicit *and* arousing. But there's also depth and a story that looks to dive deeper in the following books. I would recommend reading this if you're looking for something short and sweet and a definite one handed read. There is a lot going on with three different storylines but I suspect that they start to work better together as the series goes on. I hope to continue with the next book.
Thank you Ida and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
“What we have together isn’t wrong. You’re sweet and kind and fun, and you’re entitled to live your life however the fuck you please. Even if you were the devil in disguise, you deserve to make your own choices because you’re an adult.” – Arcas
Virtue begins with the story of Savannah’s wild imagination running loose in her head about Emmaline and The Duke. It speaks of regency eras and wild nights of scandalous sinful desires. Savannah is a librarian that works part-time as a bartender to make ends meet. She ran away from an abusive house that was trying to push religion down her throat and convinced her that even thinking about reading books is a sin in itself! Her boyfriend, Arcas, helps her overcome her fears and explore her sexual desires.
I loved this book because it had a mix of everything! Regency period? Emmaline and the Duke. Late-night raids with high stakes? Savannah and Arcas. Spicy scenes with a bit of threesome, DP, and BDSM? Yep. Blogging? Yes. Books? Hell YES! It combined everything juicy that we need in a book. I really enjoyed reading the scandalous scenes between Emmaline and the Duke, especially when he found her in the garden. What actually really impressed me was that Arcas is a paraplegic and the author wrote about his intimacy with Savannah in a way that I never read about before. The author showed us that not everything is about lust and penetration because Savannah was able to make him see stars because of some erogenous zones in his fingers. 🔥
Now on to the spice. I have to say that this book was extremely hot to the point where I was fanning myself after every chapter! 🥵 They were only 11! I want more, no scratch that. I need more! Can’t wait to read Voyeur and find out more about Savannah, Arcas, Emmaline, and the Duke!
Short steamy introduction to an ongoing exploration and sharing of one woman’s self-discovery and sexual exploration fill the pages. Savannah and Arcas are in a committed rather open relationship in which he encourages her to leave behind the strictures of her upbringing and open herself to all that life has to offer.
What I liked: * Savannah: open to new experiences, overcoming traumas from rigid evangelical upbringing, loves Arcas, wants to be a writer, sharing her experiences on a blog, fantasizes quite a bit about a couple in a historical fiction story, has numerous jobs * Arcas: a decade older than Savannah, paraplegic, income from gaming online, loves Savannah, loving, generous lover, there for Savannah, making the most of his life in a wheelchair * The idea of the fantasy worlds the main characters occupy many hours of their days * That Savannah and Arcas are compatible in and out of the bedroom * The communication and support the couple provide one another * Wondering what will happen in the next part of the story
What I didn’t like: * Not a dislike but do hope to hear more about the characters outside of the bedroom as the story continues
Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to the author and IndiePenPR for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Virtue was my first Contemporary meets Regency Romance read. It was a quick read with spice. I’d rate it a 3.5 and am looking forward to continuing the storyline in the next book (this one has a HFN/minor cliffy)
I really enjoyed going through Savannah’s newfound freedom with her as she explores her desires with her paraplegic gamer boyfriend and starts a blog about the things she tries. Btw-Arcas is the perfect book husband (so supportive and encouraging.. swoon). 🥰 It was also cool to get a second storyline with Savannah’s imagination..she loves the Historical Romance novel Love and Honor and fantasizes about being the main characters Emmaline and Maddern/The Duke. My only “issue” was I wasn’t feeling fully invested/attached to the characters, I think if it started with a little more back story then I would have been a little more hooked and less confused with a few parts, but I’ve been slumping the past month so it very well could have just been me. But it’s also a novella so those tend to be less plot and more spice..so I still thoroughly enjoyed it either way. Anyways..I’m off to read the next one 🙃❤️🥰
Virtue is meant to be a quick and steamy novella following the sexual explorations of a young woman, Savannah, with the support of her gamer boyfriend. Said boyfriend is game to try anything...threesome? Sure! Toys? Duh! Role play? Obviously. Public displays of...erm... affection? Yep. That happens too!
Savannah opts to blog about this awakening online and at the same time is dealing with dealing with her uber conservative family being abusive and not allowing her to live her own life. Oh, and Savannah also loves her some regency romance so there is a lot of fantasizing about a spicier version of her favorite book.
This book had all the right pieces but fell very flat for me. I found myself skimming over anything italicized, which was her regency romance fantasies. It was boring. The rest of the book was just OK. I appreciated the representation of alter-abled persons and the storyline that was in place for a good read. It just didn't come together for me.
📚𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕚 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨 - 𝕍𝕚𝕣𝕥𝕦𝕖 (𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝔾𝕒𝕞𝕖𝕣’𝕤 𝔾𝕚𝕣𝕝𝕗𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕕 #𝟙 𝕓𝕪 𝕀𝕕𝕒 𝔹𝕣𝕒𝕕𝕪📚 . A super steamy and s*x positive novella. Virtue follows Savannah, a librarian who grew up in a repressive religious household, and her paraplegic gamer boyfriend Arcas.
Savannah is very keen to explore her sexuality, and Arcas shows his support by encouraging her to undertake a sex challenge and blog about her Sexcapades.
Savannah is also a fan of regency romance, and she imagines herself as the FMC having intimate relations with the MC of the books. I thought these were really fun! Especially the greenhouse scene 🥵.
Overall this was a great little read. It was refreshing to have a book that was so body and sex positive. The author has clearly done their research into paraplegics as Arcas had similarities to that of Rafe Biggs. This was done very respectfully, and their scenes were super hot. I am looking forward to reading more by @idabradyauthor
I received my copy of Virtue courtesy of NetGallery. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This one was just okay for me. The premise was intriguing but unfortunately it didn’t come together in a way that really held my interest. I liked that it combined both contemporary and historical storylines, I thought that was fun (although I was kind of more interested in the historical fanfic if I’m being honest), and I also really appreciated the inclusion of a differently-abled sexual partner.
The problem is that there really wasn’t much storyline (and no romance), which can be ok in an erotic novella, but I also didn’t find it that erotic. I really need at least one of those things to be in place but ultimately I wasn’t invested at all and found it pretty boring.
This is meant to be an introduction to a series, so hopefully there will be more development as the story continues!
Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC in exchange in for my honest review.
Being a gir with a similar background as Van I was rooting her on the whole way as she explored her sexuality. I wish the blurb warned there was going to be FF content as it's not something I enjoy and I know it can be a good selling point for readers who are looking for it. I did love that Van's boyfriend is disabled and I love the representation!
I feel like the only main issue I have is this story doesn't have as full of an arc as I'd like. It feels like the book was cut up into parts to make a series and I wish I could have had the full story all at once instead of it being pieced together. But that's just me!
This is a fun quick romp. It can be read in about an hour and had a lot of fun spicy scenes to make me want to take a page out of Savannah's blog.
This was a quick and steamy novella with a fairly unique premise. This was a mix of contemporary meets regency romance and it's the first in a series. This book drew me in and I loved all the positives such as the disability rep in the main male character, the sex positive book, the FMC exploring her fantasies, and the supportive boyfriend.
I had high hopes for this one after I read the premise, but it felt like it was lacking a bit. When you start the book you’re immediately thrust into Savannah’s thoughts and this world without enough time to get back ground and develop a connection with her character.
I think I’d read the rest of the books in the series as I’m curious to see where Savannah’s journey of sexual exploration goes.
Virtue by Ida Brady is the first short story (80 pages) of three described as a contemporary meets regency romance series. It starts off well, and the characters are starting to take shape, only for the book to be finished.
Rant warning: Having finished this book in one go and wanting to find out what actually happen to the various characters I went looking for the other books in the series and realised that at the time I looked they were twice the price (!!) of a full length printed book (currently the second book isn't even available in the UK). I regret reading the first one (even if it was a free eARC via NetGalley). Why not put all three in ONE book, which would be normal ish length for a book, and sell it at a reasonable price? Rant over
Savannah is a young woman exploring her sexuality. She fantasizes about the main characters of a regency romance, even imagining her own scenes and putting herself in their shoes. Her boyfriend encourages her to shed her abusive evangelical past and begin a blog about her evolution.
This is a quick and titillating read. Savannah has a high libido and the imagination to match it, making he the perfect heroine. It is deliciously explicit, and I thought it rather fun. It does end on a cliffhanger, so I'm hoping the author won't make us wait for long for the next in the series. I recommend this one.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
So, I absolutely loved these characters they are such a cute couple. I think that their relationship is such a good example of communication and consent.
My reasons for the 3 star review is that the characters felt underdeveloped in some chapters. I think that for a first book this is a good start but I would have loved to see more in the way of the beginning of their relationship and her relationship with her family. I also would have loved find out more about Bec and the relationship she has to the couple.
I think there is a lot to work with and I hope the next two books are able to add to this universe in a meaningful way.
This hot little novella is part of what will be a 3 (?) part series. It's graphic, but there are also tender moments and the characters are well developed for such a short read. There are actually two storylines taking place here -- one featuring the sexual awakening of Savannah and one with the regency romance of Emmaline and the Duke. Savannah is experimenting with her sexuality given that she was part of a religious sect that kept her very repressed as a child. The story of Emmaline and the Duke sprouts from a favorite book that Savannah likes to read. She, of course, is embellishing the story in her mind and making it racier and more fulfilling for all involved. There is a sort of cliffhanger at the end of this story with a HFN.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion. This book has a very unusual plot: Savannah likes reading risque Regency romantic fiction, lives with her older, gamer boyfriend, and is getting away from a very restrictive upbringing. I thought the way this author links the book's story with Savannah's imaginative interpretation of the novel and her personal desire to explore her own sexuality was very clever. There are plenty of erotic scenes, interesting and credible, in both timelines. This is well worth reading and I look forward to reading more in the series.
This story of Savannah and her gamer boyfriend, Arcas was good. Not the usual book that I would pick but I was glad to step outside my usual story. This was a steamy novella with the Recency romance mixed in.
As Savannah is exploring her sexuality from her strict childhood, this story plays into it. Between Savannah’s fantasy with the Love and Honor book and her experiencing sex with Arcas and others. This was one steamy book.
My first read by Ida and I know I’ll be reading the rest of this series. Need to know what happens with Savannah and Arcas as the sexcapades continue.
Savannah is struggling, trying to free herself from the metaphorical chains of her strict Christian upbringing. She has left her family behind and is trying to find herself as a modern and sexual woman...
With her boyfriend and friends helping her, and with her trusted regency romance novels fresh in mind, she ventures out into new hot adventures.
This was a really cute read!! I appreciated the disabled representation as well as the discussion about the church and its negative impacts. There was one thing that gave me the ick that I dropped down a star, and that was that there was a scene where others were forced to be privy to the MCs exploits, which felt ick without making sure that others were OK being included in the kink first.
The unexpected merging of some of my favorite things. I loved how thorough Savannah's imagination was, playing out regency romances in her head. And, she's a nerdy gamer that enjoys spending time with her boyfriend - both partners who fully accept one another. A really great story that was the perfect length. I look forward to reading more in the series!
A book divided into several smaller ones. Savannahs is living with her gamer boyfriend and he encourages her to to a "sexcapades" blog to beat her boredom. A quick read filled with Savannah's thrilling fantasies of old world escapades as well as her own.
Overall I loved the erotic details of the book. The steam was 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ however the storyline and character building was lacking. It was a quick read but I almost enjoyed the retelling of the Victorian erotica more than the characters actual life.
