She was caught red-handed. There was no way around it. Suzie Fairstone had been caught trying to steal booze from the corner store.
Since her marriage went up in flames, everything in Suzie's life has been a mess. But even this was a new low.
Now she is stuck in Boothbay, at 45-years-old, with nothing to her name except a tiny apartment, a car full of memories, and twenty years’ worth of regret.
Oh, and a weekend in jail it seems…
Sheriff Freddy McCutcheon has the power to solidify her descent to rock bottom, but in a moment of empathy, he gives her an unexpected second chance - with the promise of keeping a close eye on her while she’s in town.
So much for her clean fresh start.
Then just as Suzie begins to get back on her feet, something even stranger starts to happen to her - it appears she’s being followed by someone who has secrets about her husband.
Who is this woman? What does she know? And what does she want from Suzie?
Maybe it isn’t a bad thing Sheriff McCutcheon is keeping an eye on her after all, because he might be the only thing that can help save her.

This is the fifth part of Sage Parker's Starting Over in Boothbay series. In this installment, Suzie and Freddy are upset with one another after she refuses to back off on finding out the truth about her husband's murder. Freddy doesn't want her to get hurt, or worse, if the killer figures out she's on to them.
After a chat with her son, Suzie learns that her husband has been keeping journals since he was only ten years old. Reading these journals has given her a lot of information about the man her husband truly was. However, will these journals hold the answers to his untimely death?
This was a really interesting part to this story and I found the journals have added a lot to the mystery about who Roger really was. I'm really looking forward to reading the the sixth and final part to this story.

I got this book from Booksprout in exchange for an honest review so here we go!
Oh what a book I just read?! I haven't read the first four installments yet, I will soon, but this book got me on page one and now I can't wait to read the next one!!
Every word kept me on the edge of my seat in excitement. I'm so glad I got read it.
I love our MC, I'm not a fan of the dead ex-husband. Freddie seemed cool. Especially that scene where they make up. He's nice. I'm totally rooting for them.
I really want to see her son's reaction to why his father married her. If that kid is a decent person, he would see from just that his mother wasn't lying.
Lena infuriates me. I wish MC had a recorder on herself or something when she went to her. That would give her all the proof she needed as that she-dog was saying.
At the end of the day, I can't wait for the next installment.
If you like quick, mystery-packed, keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat book, this is definitely for you. You won't regret it.
This is, by far, my favorite book of the series. Suzie finally speaks to her jerk of a son, Jason, who claims his father was perfect and she ruined Roger's life over unsubstantiated claims of infidelity. She learns that Roger changed his will not long before he drove up to Boothbay, cutting Suzie out of it and leaving everything to Jason and Celia. I was proud to see that she didn't care about any of that; she just wants to reconcile with her son.
Roger's journals were a gift from Jason that he didn't even realize. We learned what Roger was really like, why he chose to marry Suzie (which was very obvious from the beginning), and what shaped him into the man he would become. They were THE most intriguing entries to read and there was one thing that Suzie learned that she never told anyone or asked questions about that annoyed me, but overall? This kept me turning pages faster than my kindle fire screen would allow me to.
Suzie finally reaches Jason, the son who refuses to believe his dad cheated. No woman could forget spotting her husband having sex with a young woman in an alley outside the mall- and she certainly did not mistake Roger telling her how much he enjoyed all the times he had similar encounters for many years.
Jason allows Suzie access to the journals from his father to prove he was never unfaithful, a sad thing. the journals do give insight into a family history and treasure hunting background Roger never mentioned.
Will the insights help solve his murder? will another encounter with Ava lead to a fatal encounter?
Troubles still ahead for Suzie, and her children.

Wow, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to Susie and her son Jason's attitude. These two need to look beyond the hurt and anger and see the truth. Call me old fashioned, but hurting or not, that boy needs to be slapped upside the head to learn respect. Regardless of how angry one is, h/she's mother deserves to be respected. I pray that book six makes Jason look like a fool and that Susie could finally prove what a scam his dad was. Just by the journal excerpts one can see how much of a mean bully he was. Hopefully all the characters get what they deserve, happy or not!.

I probably liked this book best so far as it dealt with Suzie's home life in Boston. We finally get introduced to her son, Jason (who she is estranged with after she accused her husband of having an affair and Jason just can't think the worst of his dad). Suzie and the sheriff still aren't talking so there is tension in the air. But the most interesting part dealt with Roger's journals that he kept from his pre-teen years. It starts to paint the picture that Roger never loved her and only married her to complete his vision of what his life should be. I can't wait for book 6 to solve the mystery!.

Now we are getting down to the nitty gritty. This was a great instalment in this series as we are starting to learn some truths about Suzie’s husband Roger and Lena and their movements but we also had the pleasure (putting it mildly) to meet Suzie’s son Jason who is very bitter towards his mother and blames her for his father’s death. As we know from past experience all will be revealed in the last instalment but it has been one wild ride getting to this point. Cannot wait to see how Ms Parker finalises this story.

Book Five finds Freddy and Suzie dealing with the aftermath of the breakup of their short relationship. Suzie obtains copies of Roger’s personal journals which describes his feelings and a quest for sunken treasure. Suzie realizes the treasure may be what Lena wants from her. This book reveals the answers to many of Suzie’s questions about her deceased husband including who killed him. Book Six will be the final book in this exciting series.

Sage Parker has written a page turning story that keeps you hanging until the end that makes you want more. Suzi is slowly figuring out what her late husband was doing. She still has questions that she will have to find the answers. Suzi is realizing that the life she thought she had was fake. I can't wait to read book six and find out how Suzi puts the pieces together.

Suzie is depressed after she called things off with Freddy. She knew it couldn’t amount to anything from the start but somehow is still hurts that it ended before it really began. She gets access to her late husband’s journals, can these be the key to his murder.

Another great addition to the series! The author brings out a ton of emotions in this one. Things are coming together for Suzie when she starts reading Roger's journal. And what an ending!! Can't wait for the next book!

This mystery series is just great writing and a really good plot. The characters are real and well written, each has their own problems. The anticipation and suspense keep you turning pages. Sage Parker is just an amazing storyteller. Surely book 6 will fill in all the blanks to all our questions.

Suzie now believes she know what Lena wants but the problem is she doesn’t have it. After talking to her son, Jason Suzie is given journals that Peter wrote. She learned things she never knew about him and through reading the journals it reveals what Lena is looking for.
