4.5 stars, rounded up because Kyle is possibly the most besotted hero in this entire series.

Blake has been building up this romance for the last five books, and my anticipation was at such a high pitch that I was terrified. Luckily, barring a few minor irks, she does total justice to Kyle and MaeBe.

Kyle Hawthorne is an honorary Taggart (Sean from book one, one of my favourites in the series, is his stepdad) who's spent the last year working under his uncle Ian as a bodyguard at McKay-Taggart Security. He was in the Navy, then in intelligence work, but he walked away when he was forced to murder his evil fiancée. Only Julia isn't dead. She survived the bullet, and now she's determined to get Kyle back by disposing of his new love interest Mae Beatrice Vaughn, a hacker at McKay-Taggart.

Kyle faked his own death to throw Julia off the scent, but MaeBe is understandably mad that he told her nothing of his plans. He's back now to win her over again, but he'll find she's a different woman from the one he left behind. She's toughened up, and there's no way she'll allow him to hurt her again so easily.

One great thing about this book is that Blake spends the first 20% or so running through key events in their relationship which happened in previous books. So while reading those books is definitely preferable to get the full experience, it's nice that we now see these events from their perspective.

I'm very glad to report that Mae doesn't instantly fall for Kyle the second he returns and apologises. She has a mental numbness which persists until around halfway through, and though my general instinct is always that 'there hasn't been enough grovelling', Kyle is SO besotted that I actually had to admit he'd probably done enough. He constantly affirms how much he loves her, almost from page one (she doesn't say it back until 70% in) and makes it clear that he'll have her however he can get her, whether it's just as a friend, only for sex, or someone she's just in a relationship with because she likes his family and has no parents of her own. Also, from reading his behaviour in earlier books through other characters' eyes during their separation, the depth of his love for her is utterly transparent.

The elephant in the room is definitely Julia. I can't say I enjoyed him saying their sex was 'intense', but he did only get into BDSM because it's MaeBe's thing. And Kyle does try to make it clear he doesn't just think of MaeBe as an opposite of Julia and that's why he's with her, he loves MaeBe in her own right, and that his brief attraction to Julia was an aberration.

My complaints are relatively minor. For one, I'd have liked to see Kyle give MaeBe a proper collar; in an earlier book she complains that she got basically a dog collar while Julia got a beautiful necklace (that she told him to buy, but still). It would have been a really nice touch for Kyle to give MaeBe a gorgeous necklace too. I also wish we'd got a longer epilogue considering this is the conclusion of an arc within the overarching series.

Still, Charlotte, Ian and co are as hilarious as ever - they make a lot of experiences. Also, I LOVE Kala. She is absolutely hilarious. The fact that she's been kidnapped by a bunch of mercenaries isn't enough to stifle her sarcasm. Ian saying bubble tea places are like bars for her is just a huge plus, since my blood is about 60% bubble tea too. I can't wait to dive into the kids' books (SEPTEMBER WHY ARE YOU SO FAR AWAY) and especially can't wait for Kala's book! The drama between Aidan/Carys/Tristan is very high on my radar too.

You are not an itch I want to scratch, MaeBe Vaughn,” Kyle said, his eyes solemn on her. “You’re a blanket I want to pull around me because I think you might be able to keep me warm for the rest of my life.”

I have spent years waiting for this book. YEARS. Kyle has been a predominant secondary character for far too long and I couldn't wait to finally get my hands on his book. Particularly after the way No Time to Lie.

And while this book is technically a standalone with a new couple, I highly recommend you read the series in order because the story arc for this couple begins early in the series and you really need to understand all the nuances between them through the year to really appreciate this book. It does cover most of the basics, but glosses over some that have been covered in previous books (like the pining. GOD but I loved the pining)
People in love discuss their problems. Dumbasses fake their deaths.

Kyle has been in love with MaeBe from the moment he saw her. He may have fought their connection but his fall was inevitable, no matter what his inner demons said. But when Kyle's psycho double agent ex comes back from the dead, he knows he'll do anything to protect MaeBe, even fake his own death. Though his "death" is honestly like the worst kept secret and everyone pretty much knows he's on a mission to catch Julia, including MaeBe.

When circumstances allow him to reveal himself to MaeBe, she's no longer the woman he left behind. Her edges are sharper, and she's also not afraid to drop him on his ass. And she does.

I really liked parts of this story, but admittedly, parts of it did drag a bit for me. The suspense plot sort of overrode the romance for me. I would have loved to read more about these falling for each other to appreciate their reunion even more. But on the flip side, I loved the progression of their relationship. I loved the way Kyle cares for Mae and the way he finally proves it with his unwavering trust. I loved watching Mae grow into a field agent in her own right. And while this wasn't my favorite book in the series, it still hit the spot just right.

I've been patiently waiting for Kyle and MaeBe to get their story, it took a while but it was definitely worth the wait.

We have been teased with Kyle Hawthorne and Mae Beatrice Vaughan's story since the very first book of the Masters & Mercenaries: Reloaded series so it was the absolute perfect way to wrap up the series and set up what is next on the horizon. Lexi Blake starts the story off by giving us a recap of pivotal events that have happened between Kyle and MaeBe from their points of view so we get to see little bits that we haven't seen before and it really enhanced what I previously knew about the couple.

If you have been following the series you know that Kyle has a crazy ex, Julia Ennis, that he thought was dead but she wasn't she was just biding her time while she had some facial surgery done so she couldn't be recognized and she was wreaking havoc on his families lives during that time...and she had started in on MaeBe once she realized how much Kyle liked her.

Kyle had faked his own death thinking that it would help get Julia away from MaeBe but it didn't so he's come back to fight for the woman he loves and put an end to the woman that wants to destroy her, only MaeBe isn't the same woman he left behind and she doesn't want a man that can so easily leave her without a word.

Can Kyle win MaeBe back? Can they stop Julia before she kills anyone else? Only one way to find out, grab your copy today and see what happens I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

While this story can be read as a standalone I think having read the full series and seeing how everything plays out between Kyle & MaeBe, as well as Julia's brother Drake Radcliffe & his girlfriend Taylor Cline (who story was in No Time to Lie) will help build the foundation of this story. But the choice is yours on how you choose to read it.

I would recommend this book to those that enjoy STEAMY Romantic Suspense, BDSM Romances, or Second Chance Romances.

Happy Reading!!!

I feel like this is the book we have been waiting for, for a long time, Kyle and MaeBe. Yet, I was very underwhelmed with it and a bit bored while reading it, took me 3 days to get through it, when it should have been 1. I kept putting it down and finding other things to do.

The angst and drama between Kyle and MaeBe working things out drove me nuts. Both were right, both were wrong and everybody and their brother around them weighed in. Things only got a bit more interesting at the end when more was on the line. Ian and Charlotte had a big stake in things and finally Julia was put down, like she should have been years ago.

I liked how this one ended, liked seeing everyone happy in the future, but also glad to be done with the book and ready to move on to something else.

“Time and space had done nothing to change his feelings for MaeBe Vaughn. Except to make them stronger. He knew once and for all that she was the one. She was the woman he would go to his grave loving, and she seemed to not feel the same way.”

The Dom Who Came In From The Cold is Kyle and MaeBe’s book wrapping up this five book section of Lexi Blake’s hugely popular Masters and Mercenaries series. We met Kyle in book one - 25 books ago- as a college kid when Sean Taggart catfished his mom Grace Hawthorne, now he’s an Ex-CIA operative. He’s seen some bad sh*t, he’s killed a few people that deserved it, he “died” but then came back to life, he was engaged to a psychotic killer, he’s trained to be a Dom and now he’s ready to move on.

Here Kyle is back from the dead but ultimate baddie Julia is hot on his trail convinced they are meant to be together. MaeBe has to forgive Kyle, fight Julia and kick some a$$ with her new self defense skills. These two have gone through so much for their happily ever after and beating Julia is not going to be easy. It’s hard to give a spoiler free review but this book has plenty of romance, steam, club scenes, Taggart snark, fighting for their lives, more snark and steam. We caught up with so many of our past M&M’s - Ian, Charlotte, Alex, Ten, Theo, Erin! The gang was all here and it led to a dramatic conclusion!!! I can’t wait to see where the next installments go!!

Just a reminder that Charlotte will forever be 👑👑

“I assure you, nephew, we will never forget how to play this game. We played it from a young age and when we are old, we will still be the queens.”

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. The Dom Who Came In From The Cold has a publish date of February 21, 2023.

4 stars. This was a really good book. The Dom Who Came in from the Cold is the long awaited book for Kyle and Maebe, and book five in the Masters & Mercenaries: Reloaded series. After seeing the couple's relationship unfold behind the scenes in the previous books in the series, I was eager to see them resolve all of their issues. Maebe and Kyle's relationship was a slow burn, friends to brief- lovers one up until this point. Kyle had to recover mentally from having to kill his ex-fiancé, Julia, when she turned out to be a secret double agent and part of the Consortium. He slowly gets over that and falls for Maebe, who patiently has waited for him to be ready to begin a relationship with her. When it seems like it is finally their time to get together for good, Julia pops back up, surprisingly having faked her death, to threaten their happiness and their lives. In order to protect Maebe from his psycho ex, Kyle fakes his death. This is where this book begins. After the previous books, Kyle is away in hiding after faking his death, which is known by his family, but is not openly spoken about, especially with Maebe. She knew in her heart that he wasn't dead. But the fact that he left her, which she has parental abandonment issues from her past already, and did it because of Julia, has left her heartbroken, insecure, bitter and revengeful. Not knowing if Kyle would ever return, Maebe has trained to be as physically powerful as her computer skills are, knowing that she would seek revenge on Julia when she got the chance. Now Kyle is back and he wants to make things up to Maebe, even though Julia is still a threat. But neither of them are the same people they were before. Kyle has to learn to trust that Maebe is not some helpless damsel that he can hide away until Julia is dealt with. Maebe has a lot of forgiving to do for Kyle's treatment of her. And Julia is back, threatening their happiness and safety, as well as the safety of their families and friends. Together, Kyle and Maebe weather the storm together, coming out stronger and in love with a future that makes it all worth it.

I really enjoyed Kyle and Maebe's story. I was so eager to see how their present unfolded, that I didn't find the flashback scenes necessary. Still, I loved them together. Quirky, sweet Maebe was such a great heroine, with the perfect amount of toughness to her. I was glad she didn't push Kyle away for too long . He was humble, willing to admit his mistakes and willing to take anything he could get from her, just wanting her forgiveness and for her to be happy. I was very happy that they worked everything out and put the past behind him. This book has the series' trademark adventure, suspense, romance and heat, which makes it one of my favorites.

Overall, I was happy for Kyle and Maebe's problems to be resolved and for them to finally get the HEA they deserve. I don't know if this is last book in the series, because I know there is a time jump coming and we will get the next generation's books. If so, I am sad to see this series end as I very much enjoyed it. But I am also so excited for the future books set in the McKay-Taggart world and I can't wait to see what Ms. Blake comes up with next!

This was the story I've been waiting since I started reading this series. Kyle and MaeBe have held my interest for so long I was bursting with excitement to read how they ended up together.

Their relationship doesn't start off with a bang, but more of a slow burn. And when they finally get together, Kyle's old life comes knocking, leaving him no choice but to "hide". That doesn't help with MaeBe's abandonment issues. When he finally returns, she's not the same person anymore. Her walls are up and made of steel.

He's doing anything and everything he can think of, but it all feels like she is slipping through his fingers. They had a loooong road ahead of them, and a lunatic who is after them won't rest until she has him or until she eliminates MaeBe. But the time has come to stop her and take control of their future. And with the help of their friends and family, they manage to eliminate the threat but also find HEA along the way

There seems to be a recurring pattern for LEO/Military male dominants. Kyle is one who creates a train wreck with his nonexistent relationship with MaeBe. I mean, I don't even need to read the story to know how this is going to go. Kyle is heavy handed and a complete idiot in so many ways that I empathize with poor MaeBe. Kyle is stuck in the "me man, me roar - you woman, me protect" mindset. He cannot seem to grasp that MaeBe will not be placed in a box. MaeBe on the other hand is more like . . ."oh, so sorry. I don't need a knight to save me from the dragon. I can save myself."

I can't lie, I've been excited for Kyle and Maybe's story...and I wasn't disappointed.

This one had everything a reader of this series (or author) could want and has come to expect.

Some time in a club? Check.

An interesting secondary plot that was full of interesting characters? Check.

A great romance? Check.

Some hilarious Ian and Taggart family moments? Check.

I had a great time reading this one. I loved them together and apart. I loved the character growth through the story that made it both interesting and compelling watching them get together.

It's also hard to review this one without spoilers, so I'm going to say that I had a lot of fun reading it, and your will too. But, if you haven't read the other books in the series, while you will still enjoy it, some of the inside jokes about the characters will not have their full meaning. So I recommend reading all of them in this series.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

I am so glad that the wait is over for MaeBe!!! I really enjoy her character throughout this series. I definitely suggest that you read the previous books in the series or I think you'd feel a little plopped down in the middle of a book.

These books have been steadily growing to this showdown and it does not disappoint. The villain needs to be dealt with and quickly, before it's too late!

I was slightly put off with the beginning, because it felt kind of slow and redundant, if you'd read the previous books. However, once you get about 1/3 of the way through, it really picks up.

Kyle is trying to right the wrongs of his past. But, in order to do that, he has to learn to trust his family and friends, lean on those he loves and especially make sure that he shows trust in his relationships.

MaeBe is ready. She is strong, capable and so dang smart. She knows that her past relationship was fleeting, but she can't help but feel that maybe something might be wrong with her in particular.

These two characters have so much love between them, but the past and future are kind of butting heads and need to be dealt with.

You'll see new characters, old characters and be cheering everyone on. I really enjoyed watching MaeBe and Kyle figure out whether or not what they had was fleeting, worth fighting for or just too dang hard to overcome. Love does not always win out. Sometimes, obstacles are too insurmountable.

You will not be disappointed in this book. And, the teasers at the end... Oh my goodness! I can't wait!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
I have wanted MaeBe and Kyle's story and it was worth the wait. MaeBe and Kyle were just starting a new relationship when his ex shows up and hurts MaeBe and tells her all kinds of this about herself and that she is not good enough for Kyle. And to make matters worse, Kyle blows himself up.
Now he is back because he has to protect MaeBe from Julia, who wants him and will stop at nothing to have him back and that includes killing MaeBe. But Kyle has to get MaeBe to talk to him so he can explain why he did what he did and left her hurting.
If MaeBe can forgive Kyle, they along with the McKay Taggert group will have to take down Julia once and for all before she goes after someone else they love.
Oh and that epilogue was perfect and the look in the next series is going to be awesome. I can not wait for more. Sounds like the twins are going to get into some kind of trouble but they can always call daddy to help them out.
If you haven't read a Lexi Blake book, then you don't know what you are missing. All of the Masters & Mercenaries and the spin-offs are
great. Grab a book and start reading, you will not be disappointed.

Just a really satisfying conclusion to this arc. Loved getting the build up to Kyle and MaeBe's relationship in the first third, but not spending too long there before we jumped to present day. Kyle and MaeBe aren't even my favorites from this arc, but I really enjoyed their story and how much all the recent couples played a bit role here. I could probably nitpick a little bit on a few things (I think there could have been a little more time spend resolving stuff with Mae's family - her father and stepmother clearly suck!) and it's a good thing I recently reread the previous four books before diving into this one. But it was such a satisfying reading experience overall that I'm content to let that go. Bonus points for Mae repeatedly thinking of Ian and Charlie as goals because yes. Always.

This has been such a solid arc of this series for me that I'm sorry to see it end, but I am so looking forward to moving on to the next gen series, in a way I usually wouldn't be. But there is a lot to look forward to and I trust Blake in a way I don't trust most authors. Bring it on.

This book is one I've been waiting for. We've had some scenes with Kyle and MaeBe in previous books but I couldn't wait to find out how they would finally get together. Kyle faked his death so that Julia, who is deadly, wouldn't go after MaeBe. He comes back at the beginning of this book and tries to convince MaeBe that he was just protecting her. Without giving too much away, the whole team has to get involved to resolve the Julia issue and it was fantastic. I definitely can't wait to read the next book where we now get to see the grown kids and all that happens to them. The epilogue was a great ending to this one.

5 brilliant stars for Kyle and Maebe.

Another 5 stars for Lexi Blake's inspirational acknowledgement at the very beginning of this book.
Lexi continues to be a light in the dark for so many of us and always knows the perfect words of encouragement.

I don't know what it says about me that I'm totally perving on Kyle, who without a doubt is too young for me, yet I'm still claiming him as mine... fight me!!

This book hooked me from page 1, and I didn't want it to end. This entire Reloaded Series is so well done and I hope any new readers finds themselves One-clicking all the M&M books in the OG series. I'm honestly jealous of anyone who gets to read these books for the first time.

This may be the fifth book of this series, but I would definitely recommend that you have read all 26 (!) of the Masters & Mercenaries series to fully appreciate all the players in the game. I just love how everything ties together, and we get to see these fabulous people living it large, saving the world, and having a lot of kinky sexy times too! I am assuming in my review that you are up to speed...

I love that we get to see some of the story we knew already from the direct viewpoint of MaeBe and Kyle. For example, knowing that MaeBe worked out very quickly that he wasn't in fact dead, makes it better, but also makes it worse that he did not trust her. I always loved that she learned how to keep herself safe, and showed him in no uncertain terms!

The tension is great, but so are the awakenings and realisations that they both need to get over their pasts, and see how it could be... and then they slip again... the developments and changes are both cerebral and physical. It always makes me chuckle when the next generation down objects to being in Sanctum at the same time as their also kinky parents, just such a squirmy and funny idea!

Julia Ennis really is disturbing the party, but now that everyone is on the same page and working together, not in protection mode, the adventures really take off. Julia really is a fabulously manipulative and evil character – and yet Blake gives us enough of how she got to be that way to force us to think that there is a human behind the mask, just.

Fabulous read from start to finish – enjoy!

4.5stars-THE DOM WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD is the fifth instalment in Lexi Blake’s contemporary, adult MASTERS AND MERCENARIES: RELOADED erotic, BDSM, romantic suspense series-a spin off from the author’s Masters and Mercenaries: The Forgotten, which in turn is a spin off from the author’s Masters and Mercenaries series. This is former CIA agent Kyle Hawthorne, and IT specialist MaeBe (Mae Beatrice) Vaughn’s story line. THE DOM WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout as well as references to previous events and interconnected characters. Kyle and MaeBe’s story line has been building since book one of the Reloaded spin off.

NOTE: If you have not read the previous instalments, there may be spoilers in my review. Some of the events of THE DOM WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD cross over with NO TIME TO LIE #4.

Told from third person perspective using present day and memories from the past THE DOM WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD follows in the wake of Kyle Hawthorne’s return from the dead. Years earlier, CIA operative Kyle Hawthorne had fallen in love with fellow CIA agent Julia Ennis, but soon discovered Julia had turned to the dark side, taking Kyle along for the ride. Upon his ‘escape’ from Julia, and his return to his extended family at McKay-Taggart Security and his mother Grace Taggart, Kyle would find himself falling for IT Specialist MaeBe Vaughn but Kyle’s past refused to let go, and our hero faked his death to protect the woman he loved. Fast forward eighteen months, and Kyle would, once again, come face to face with MaeBe Vaughn, the woman whose heart he destroyed in an effort to save her. Working for McKay-Taggart brought Kyle up close and personal with MaeBe but Kyle’s demons have returned gunning for everyone that Kyle has ever loved. What ensues is the acrimonious but rebuilding relationship between Kyle and MaeBe, and the potential fall-out as Julia Ennis sets her sights on our story line hero, killing anyone who stands in her way of reclaiming the man she lost.

The relationship between Kyle and MaeBe is a second chance relationship but a relationship destroyed by secrets and lies, issues of trust, and Kyle faking his death in an effort to protect MaeBe Vaughn. Having remained hiding in plain sight, Kyle had been in contact with family back home but MaeBe was kept out of the loop to protect her from future harm. Kyle’s return brought trepidation, more issues of trust, and the enemy only minutes behind, and with it, MaeBe’s life would once again hang in the balance. MaeBe is a submissive in the bedroom, but in the real world, MaeBe refuses to bend to the man she still loved. The $ex scenes are intimate erotic and intense with some scenes of spanking and bondage.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Big Tag and Charlotte, Sean and Grace Taggart; operatives Taylor Cline and Drake Radcliff, Deke Murphy and Maddie Hall, Hutch and Noelle, Adam Miles, Jake, Boomer and Yasmin, as well as the return of Julie Ennis, and newcomer CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) Joseph Caulder who will lead the new teams in MASTERS AND MERCENARIES: NEW RECRUITS September 2023.

THE DOM WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD is another complex, detailed, exhaustive and meticulous storyline that wraps up this particular arc of the Masters and Mercenaries series, as well as the introduction to the next generation of operatives and spies-children of the couples we have met in the original and previous series. The premise is thorough, elaborate and intriguing; the characters are numerous, charismatic, determined and dynamic; the romance is passionate but struggles in the face of betrayal and loss. Lexi Blake pulls the reader into another wonderful, exciting and amazing series-you don’t want to pass by.

I waited so long for this book and was so ready for it. Kyle and Maebe have been teased for a long time and I wanted their story especially after the way Kyle left things with Maebe.

Kyle has been through a lot and he has a huge chip on his shoulder. He's actually been through a little more than we initially though and I loved getting to see his side. He tough and thinks there no redeeming him and then he meets Maebe and things start to look different.

It had been way more fun to watch Uncle Ian go slowly insane as his utilitarian office was transformed into something designer and chic.

Maebe is one of the best younger generation's computer wiz. She smart and loves gaming, she has a tough family life but she found a different kind of family at McKay-Taggart. One she could depend on, one that always has her back no matter what. She's happy and content with what she has until she meets Kyle.

Now she wants something else but the stubborn man won't give in and give them both what they want. Kyle thinks he's too jaded and rough around the edges for Maebe, so he keeps his distance not wanting to get involved.

Not in a relationship there aren’t, MaeBe had replied quietly, her eyes on him. Or at least there shouldn’t be. I’m sorry. I’m with Maddie. There shouldn’t be secrets between people in love. There should be trust and intimacy. Your partner should be the only person in the world you tell everything to. The good. The bad. The ugly.

He thinks of her as innocent and puts he up on a pedestal that she didn’t not asked to be placed on. Always trying to protect her and never teaching her how to protect herself, and her always trusting him and not wanting to know how to protect herself. At this point Maebe was a tiny bit too soft for my liking.

So when Kyle faked his own death and walked away from Maebe, it was finally time for her to learn to protect herself and not depend on anyone. Not gonna lie, I loved seeing the backbone in Maebe and seeing her stand up for herself and demanding to learn how to fight.

Even though it was a jerk move for Kyle to leave, I think Maebe needed it to find the strength within her.

Anyways to the book now, I loved seeing the early days with Kyle and Maebe from their perspectives and seeing what kind of relationship they were building. And seeing how they came to trust each other and learn things about one another. Such a great background and lead up to the current story.

And let me tell you the current story delivers. I love the first scene with both characters, I knew I was in for a great story and as per usual this author did not disappoint.

I loved who Maebe became and didn’t listen to Kyle but made her own decisions and stuck by them. She wasn’t letting him do that to her again. Like I said before I think Maebe needed the time away from Kyle to become more of her self and stand up to him. Other wise he would always be doing things to "protect her" and not listen to a thing she said.

“So the two of you never took the relationship past friendship? All this angst has been over two buddies who like to hang but never bang?”

Kyle also needed to see what it was like to be without Maebe. I loved that he came back thinking he would get the same Maebe he left and was surprised with the new tough chick Maebe that doesn’t take crap from anyone.

When did you become such a broody boy? I always thought I would love a broody vampire. Now I realize how obnoxious that would be. Thanks for ruining paranormal romance for me.

I loved watching them find their way back to one another and learning how to be together again and this time for the long haul. I also like that Kyle finally got it through his thick skull that he couldn’t just run away every time something got scary. He needed to stay and fight with his family and woman.

Oh and of course it gives all the angsty vibes that you could hope for. All in all another favorite! A must read.

The latest Lexi Blake book is here and I have to say I adored this book. The Dom Who Came In From The Cold is the perfect book to close another chapter in the world of the Masters and Mercenaries, and everything I could have hoped for from this book came true, and more.

Are you shocked that it’s a Lexi Blake book that drags me out of my impromptu hiatus? No? Okay, then you know me well!

When I say I squealed in excitement when the eARC hit my inbox I want you to picture an overly excited puppy with a new squeaky toy. Because finally the wait was over, and MaeBe and Kyle could have their HEA.

The road to happily ever after isn’t an easy one for our hero and heroine. Past trauma, pride, hurt feelings, and an evil ex-girlfriend are working against Kyle and MaeBe. I was absolutely rooting for them from the first book in this spinoff series, they were always so cute together.

One thing I absolutely loved about this book is that we get to see what happened between them since they first met. We got a glimpse at all the little things that we missed while they were secondary characters. I always love it when Lexi Blake goes in the past and shows us what happened “in the background”. We get to see Kyle and MaeBe grow as friends, very good friends, and then become lovers. We see Kyle struggle with his feelings, because he truly doesn’t believe he deserves MaeBe’s love. We see MaeBe start trusting someone for the first time in a very long time, and it’s beautiful to see her opening up.

It wouldn’t be a true Lexi Blake story if the road was easy. There are enemies everywhere, and we meet some characters who could be friends but they could also be foes. I am curious about that, because I’m certain there is a story there, maybe for the next generation? Who knows. All I know is that I was suspicious of this one particular character the whole time and I still haven’t decided if I should trust them if they ever come back in future books.

Because this is a Masters and Mercenaries book we get to see my dears Ian and Charlie. We actually see a lot of the OG Masters and it was so much fun. Not only because I miss them so so much, but we also get to see how both Kyle and MaeBe finally accept that they’re part of this wonderful family. And that’s the thing about this series, the found family aspect is such a strong part of the story, and it’s in part why I love coming back to this world over and over again.

I have to end this review by saying that the epilogue made me wish I could time travel in the future so I can be closer to the release day of the new spin-off series. I am so so so excited to see what Lexi has in store for us. In the meantime, please consider reading this book and the series it’s a part of because you will not regret it!

Oh my heart!! The Dom Who Came in from the Cold was better than I expected and I was already expecting it to be amazing!!

It's sometimes hard to say that you can jump into this series at any point because the plot has been rolling for multiple books, but in this instance I would say if this was the first Lexi Blake you stumbled across, number 1; welcome to the lifelong club of fans, and secondly; the love story between Kyle and MaeBe begins at their actual beginning, which also happens to be where the rolling plot for the villain jumpstarts as well. My heart leapt for joy when I discovered this treat. Thank you Lexi for giving us this amazing ride!

This is the fifth book in the Reloaded part of the Masters and Mercenaries series and with each book the tension between Kyle and MaeBe has only grown thicker and thicker. Right off everyone sensed the chemistry between the two of them, but Kyle has been the one to push it off. While he was great comedy relief as he was standoffish and cavemanish at every interaction with MaeBe, it only helped to brew all of that chemistry, that is until he faked his own death. As everyone calls it, the worst kept secret at McKay-Taggart, but necessary to keep his ex off Mae's back. His ex is the villain who has only escalated in her villainy and part of that is to get rid of the woman who has stolen the man she claims is hers. She most likely has crazy eyes...just ask Ian all about crazy eyes.

This book brought it all, a fantastic love story, one to rival Erin and Theo's and trust me, that is hard to do. It also had a psycho villain that was hard to catch and I love how Lexi creates these layered characters that affect so many different people over multiple books. Lastly, a found family that I want to join at McKay-Taggart, one that is near and dear to my heart after 26+ books. Lexi never fails to combine classic characters with new ones that always bring out my laughs and tears, typically during the same chapter. That alone is one of my favorite reasons that she has continued and will continue to be a one-click author for me.

The Dom Who Came in from the Cold is one of Lexi's best books in this series. I had little doubt it would be with all of the books leading up to the build up of this special couple, but like I said above, I was blown away with the tension of the plot, and especially everyone that gathered around to help out the couple at McKay-Taggart. This book was epically phenomenal and everything I could have hoped for.

I literally pulled an all-nighter reading this book, because I couldn’t put it down! Lexi Blake is such a masterful storyteller, readers are immediately pulled into her world. And, this time, we finally get all of the tortured soul that is Kyle Hawthorne. He has history, and part of that history is one of the craziest female big bads we have seen yet as a Lexi Blake villain (and if you all thought Hope McDonald was crazy, you haven’t seen anything yet)! Julia Ennis has been bringing her special brand of psycho across multiple books, and watching all the pieces of the game that she has been setting up come together was phenomenal. Because she is one of the worst, it literally brings out all of the best of the McKay Taggart crew, including Ian and Charlotte, which was a delicious treat to see the original crew show the youngsters how it’s done!

Now, back to Kyle and MaeBe . . . this couple had my heart! Kyle is a tortured soul . . . mostly brought on by his own issues and baggage . . . and he hasn't realized just how much stronger he is with his family (and I mean all of his extended McKay Taggart family) backing him yet . . . but he will and that is a glorious revelation too. And MaeBe has become one of my favorite ladies of this series! She has also been through the wringer with her own personal demons (and because Kyle faked his death) and she has some soul searching coming her way as well as she realizes she has more family than she thought. I really loved watching her go from quirky hacker to being a real force to be reckoned with (thank you Ian, Erin and crew) once she finally pushed through her issues to really see what she had in front of her as well!

This book was non-stop with thrill and suspense. And Julia had been playing the long game, so there were some really sneaky surprises and shocking moments. It was also classic McKay Taggart, including a meddling Ian, Charlie drawing on her Russian mafia roots, some dark web hacking, multiple body clean ups, lots of sarcasm, Sanctum, and a dream team coming together to save the day. And, most importantly, we see the entire evolution of Kyle and MaeBe as they go from their first introduction all the way to their end game, and it is completely amazing to watch it play out! Honestly, Lexi, The Dom Who Came in from the Cold was utter perfection. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would! 5 stars and a thank you, as I fangirled myself through every page of this book!

"Whatever you did before doesn't matter. We made our deal, and I know neither of us has seen anyone since."
"No. I didn't want anyone else. I don't think I ever will."
"Oh, I intend to make sure you won't ever again. This is it for me, MaeBe Vaughn. You're my endgame. Always."

I think that it's safe to say that THE DOM WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD is the book that I have been waiting for for a verrrry long time. Author Lexi Blake has made the relationship between Kyle Hawthorne and MaeBe Vaughn the slowest of slow burns, and, finally, here we are.

I'm going to be honest. Back in my early days of reading and reviewing, did I think that I would be in love with a world like this one? Heck, no. But then came Ian Taggart and all of his big, crazy family, by blood and by choice, and there was no looking back.

I am completely spoiled by Lexi's writing in this, the Masters and Mercenaries world, and every other that she's created. Being deeply invested in the characters, I have been waiting to see these two get their HEA, and, oh, my gosh, did Lexi bring it. Kyle and MaeBe are not perfect, but it's their quirks, and the ability they have to love each other because, not in spite, of them, that make them really perfect for each other. And, really, with the entirety of the McKay and Taggart families and everyone that they've brought in, there was no way that this story wouldn't end exactly the way that I hoped.

There's all of the requisite suspense here, and, of course, all of the steam (hello, Sanctum), resulting in a book that I could not put down, and that was all that I'd hoped it would be. Easily one of my favorites in this world (and that's saying something), THE DOM WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD is a must read for Lexi's fans both seasoned and new. Grab it, read it, love it. You can thank me later. ❤️

Kyle Hawthorne and Mae Beatrice “MaeBe” Vaughan seem like an unlikely pairing. Former military man and current CIA agent, Kyle is surly and damaged, while MaeBe is confident and outgoing and loves nothing more than taking down the bad guys through her little corner of the web. However, there's an undeniable spark between them that they both try to resist. Despite the obstacles in their way, they form a friendship that seems to be turning into something more until Kyle's past catches up with him.

Julia, Kyle's not-so-dead former partner and fiancée, resurfaces, and Kyle is forced to fake his own death and go into hiding to keep MaeBe safe. He watches over her from afar, but when Julia threatens those he loves, he knows he must get closer to MaeBe to protect her. Their relationship is put to the test as they navigate danger and uncertainty, but in the end, they emerge more vital than ever. And by “put to the test,” I mean MaeBe doesn’t just roll over and forgive Kyle for abandoning her and thinking she’s fragile. Nope, MaeBe puts Kyle through the wringer, and I loved it!!

The Dom Who Came in from the Cold is more than just Kyle’s admission that he faked his death, it’s about Kyle learning to let go of his past and embrace his future with MaeBe. He realizes that she is the one person who can heal his broken soul and make him whole again. MaeBe, in turn, learns to let go of her fears and trust in Kyle's love. Together, they find a way to create a new path filled with love, hope, and possibility.

But I would be remiss if I didn’t share my love for Big Tag, Charlie, Sean, and so many other beloved characters who made appearances and helped Kyle and MaeBe along the way. I loved the interactions, the sidebar humor—don’t get me started on the need for more freezer space—and just truly rounded out the whole storyline. I’d somehow forgotten how awesome all the books are in this series and I need to find time for a re-read. ~ Missy, 5 stars

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This may be the 5th book of this series, but I would definitely recommend that you have read all 26 (!) of the M&M series to fully appreciate all the players in the game. I just love how everything ties together, and we get to see these fabulous people living it large, saving the world, and having a lot of kinky sexy times too! I am assuming in my review that you are up to speed ...

I love that we get to see some of the story we knew already from the direct viewpoint of MaeBe and Kyle. For example knowing that MaeBe worked out very quickly that he wasn't in fact dead, makes it better, but also makes it worse that he did not trust her. I always loved that she learned how to keep herself safe, and showed him in no uncertain terms !

The tension is great, but so are the awakenings and realisations that they both need to get over their pasts, and see how it could be ... and then they slip again ... the developments and changes are both cerebral and physical. It always makes me chuckle when the next generation down objects to being in Sanctum at the same time as their also kinky parents, just such a squirmy, and funny idea!

Julia Ennis really is disturbing the party, but now that everyone is on the same page and working together, not in protection mode, the adventures really take off. Julia really is a fabulously manipulative and evil character - and yet Blake gives us enough of how she got to be that way to force us to think that there is a human behind the mask, just.

Fabulous read from start to finish - enjoy!

Kyle's story is unforgettable

Oh, how I waited for Kyle Hawthorne's story, and Lexi Blake did not hold back. It is an unforgettable, brilliant, suspenseful, action packed read, that definitely sated my need. Of course, it is a story of good vs evil, but just wait until you see how evil these bad guys are. it is a second chance romance, and there's some heavy groveling involved, especially considering Kyle has just arisen from the dead. So, strap yourself in and prepare for a tumultuous ride.

This is the story of Kyle and Maebe Vaughn, it's their second chance for romance, but will Mae forgive Kyle for lying to her? She's angry, even more than that she's hurt, and I don't blame her. Kyle may have had a reason for not telling Mae the truth, he needed to protect her and ensure her safety, except he was the only one who couldn't see that what he did was wrong. (He really needed a slap across the back of his head for that one!) Kyle's main goal is to take down Julia and he needs Mae's expertise to do that.

This was another brilliant addition to the Masters & Mercenaries: Reloaded series. There was plenty of laughs (we can thank Ian once again), some wonderful romance, some sexy club time, and just enough suspense, intensity, and action. Lexi is known for her addictive words, captivating storylines, sensual moments, and wonderful characters, and she doesn't let her readers down. I loved the ending to this book, it may have been intense, but everyone was involved. As for the epilogue ... Well let's just say I can't wait for more.

A highly recommended read. Also, do yourself a favour and read the previous books.

"If you love that woman, get on your damn knees and beg her forgiveness because you were wrong. People in love discuss their problems. Dumbasses fake their deaths."
--the character development of Kyle Hawthorne, in three simple sentences

Starting a spinoff series on book 5 when regular readers have been watching the MCs dance around each other for ages? Not ideal--a lot of the early drama in this one didn't hit the same since I didn't know much about Kyle and MaeBe's history. For a good portion of the beginning I felt a little out of sync. I've only read a handful of the Masters & Mercenaries (and a good chunk of the ones I have are 1001 Dark Nights novellas, so fairly standalone), so I tended to get a bit lost when other series characters showed up--which they do a lot. This *did* work as a standalone--you just have to get used to being a little vague on the who's who of it, which doesn't detract from the story but does cause you to miss out on some inside jokes. Once this book's action (finally) gets started, though? Hang on and enjoy the ride!

I'm not going to lie, that last 25% or so of this book had me gripped. Once Kyle got over himself and really started trusting MaeBe and their coworkers, everyone working together to defeat Julia, it was hard to put it down. Their HEA was sweet and richly earned. The next spinoff is heavily teased at the end, and I *fully* intend to start it (Masters & Mercenaries: New Recruits) from the beginning!

Rating: 4 stars / A-

For those of you who have no read the previous books in the Masters and Mercenaries: Reloaded, never fear. The first third of the Dom Who Came in From the Cold is a complete recap of Kyle and Maebe's tumultuous relationship up to the point of his coming back from the grave.

There is just so much to love about this book. The comedic banter between not only Alex and Ian but other MT team members. The heartfelt and sage wisdom that Ian imparts at just the right moments to those he considers family whether by blood or bond. The growth of Mae Be from the snarky, geeky, white hat hacker to being one kicka$$ woman and the moment when Kyle realizes the real reasons behind his past and current behavior. When he faked his death, Kyle created a Grand Canyon sized rift between him and Mae Be and it may just be too wide to ever close. It's amazing that Kyle can walk around at all for as often as he sticks his foot in his mouth. By trying to the right thing in protecting Mae Be, he's doing everything wrong and everyone at MT knows it but him. It takes time to melt the icy walls of protection around her heart that Mae Be has built to keep Kyle from hurting her again. The play here is taking down Julia Ennis and like it or not, Mae Be will be a major component/player and let me tell you that it was really extraordinary to read. The final scenes were exciting and intense and involved so many Taggarts and their extended family that it was like a family reunion. Utterly compelling!

The epilogue is a gift from Lexi as it gives us a glimpse into the future and the next generation of cover operators from the MT clan.

Finally it’s Kyle and MaeBe’s book and The Dom Who Came In From The Cold was definitely worth the wait. Concluding a story that spanned the M&M Reloaded series the scene is set for the final showdown with obsessively delusional but highly dangerous Julia, a character who made me think of Cruella Deville for some reason. Julia isn’t going down without a fight though or without the love of her life, Kyle, no matter what he has to say about it and no matter who she has to kill to get to him. Beginning with Kyle’s initial meeting with MaeBe before his dramatic departure this book is split into two with the second part picking up with his Lazarus-like reappearance in her life but MaeBe isn’t the girl he left behind or is she? Perhaps Kyle just never really saw her in the first place.

At times I wanted to shake Kyle. I know he had a Dom/sub relationship in the club with MaeBe but he acted all me caveman/you little woman and wanted to hide her away until he dealt with the Julia issue. It took the intervention of various Taggart/McKay men, who had been through this with their own women, to get him to see her value as a full team member.

This book is fast-paced with numerous characters that fans of this series will be familiar with so while The Dom could be read as a stand-alone I’d strongly recommend reading this series in order just so the various relationships are clear plus you’ll get more of Big Tag which is more than worth it. With plenty of action right from the start this was a great finale to the series while setting the scene for the next generation.

First off I love everything from Lexi Blake. Let’s just get that out of the way. A couple of my top 5 books ever are in the M&M world. Most of my favorite book couple are too. Ian and Charlie, Avery and Liam, Theo and Erin, Drake and Taylor and the list really can go on. With all of that being said there was a tremendous amount of pressure put on this book. Not only does it end this chapter of the Masters and Mercenaries series but it also helps to set the future. And boy did it deliver.

I have loved Kyle and MaeBe for a long time. His over protective nature and her loving generosity. I thought that I really had an insight into their lives after the last 4 ( really 5 ) books in this series. I was very wrong.

This book starts with the very beginning of Kyle and MaeBe’s relationship. Years of the most important moments that made them who they were. We got to see so much more than I ever imagined. And then we time jump back to their present day. With Kyle coming back to protect MaeBe after “faking” his death. ( which no one believed). He comes back to a very different MaeBe. A harder MaeBe with a lot more scars.

The growth that we get to see from both of these characters is amazing. They really learn more about themselves and what and who they really are. And as always we get great moments with Ian and the gang. I also loved that we go more insight to Kala. Who is a very prevalent character but one with so many layers and a lot of preconceived ideas about. I loved getting more clarity on her and her relationship. ( with Cooper, Ian, Charlotte, and Tasha) And of course that ending. So good. This might have broken into my top 5 books ever.

What do they say about good intentions? Well, Kyle figures out pretty rapidly what everyone has been telling him for months, things aren’t happening the way he wants them to. Poor Kyle, that could be his life’s mantra, things didn’t go as planned. But the time apart gave him the time to heal that he needed. The time apart gave MaeBe the time to unleash her inner warrior she had been hiding. The time apart made them realize how much they loved the other, and that it was all or nothing, when it came to them. Trouble is that Kyle has decided on all and MaeBe on nothing. It takes some intervention, Taggert style, to get these two on the same page

I loved that part one of the book was all the things we didn’t get to see with this couple in previous books in the series. It also is a good catch-up, or what has happened for people newly picking up the book. The vulnerabilities of these two is front and centre, only they are too caught up to see it in each other. I loved catching up with all the characters, a nod to the roots of the series (yes, Charlotte is the scary one!), and the seeds planted for the future (Countdown!). As another chapter of a series in this world closes, a sense of calm and accomplishment settles, as this generation of men and women have found their paths, and are well on their way to their happily ever afters <3
