Sören, the middle Jürgensen brother, was left behind on enemy land after the shipwreck, presumed dead. He needs to find a safe place to heal until he can make his way back to his brothers.
Firtha is the village witch; shunned and disrespected. Her peaceful life is disrupted when a huge Dane collapses on her doorstep. She's torn between her sacred oath to heal the wounded and the fear of being caught harboring an enemy warrior.
This is the first story in The Jürgensen Vikings Series.
What a great start to the story! Five brothers are fighting a vicious storm that threatens to crack their vessel into pieces. I almost felt the spray of the water on my own face as the ship rose on the huge waves and crashed down again. They had no idea where they were, having been blown off course. Regardless, they spotted land and gave up loud cheers. Maybe they could survive this?
Sören, the middle Jürgensen brother, woke and felt something was not right as he left the ship to relieve himself on shore. He heard men, so he ambled slowly back to the ship to not gather attention, then called loudly to his brothers to help him push the ship into the water. Villagers raced from cover with axes and hay forks, rusty swords and whatever they could grab as a weapon. There were too many to fight. Before he could climb aboard, something struck the back of his head. As he fell into the water, he wondered if being killed by a rock trying to escape would make him worthy of Valhalla?
Presumed dead, his brothers had to leave him behind. His true adventure would now begin as the door flew open at the home of the village witch, Firtha, and an enormous Dane staggered in, barely squeezing through the frame with his broad shoulders. Will she follow her oath to heal and save him? Or will her own fears of allowing an enemy warrior into her home make her abandon him?
I was surprised at how short this story was. I will put a warning here for those who don't care for sex in a story. Okay, well....it was good, but it is done. I'm going to search for something else to read now. Usually I head over to the other books in the series and check out the reviews which pretty much tell me what happened. I just don't feel like it. I'm going to find something else in my free Kindle books.
A New Thrilling Viking Adventure: A very short beginning of a new series. A new author for me and I really enjoyed the characters and I look forward to more of the story. The prologue was tense, and thrilling. It had my interest for the rest of this short novella. Loved the cover: Mature Reader Advisory I look forward to more this author.
I actually put it down as a DNF, which is very rare for me. Picking it back up because I wanted something quick to read, I found the second half of the story more interesting.
There is no question of Soren's honor. Nor of Firtha's inner strength. But there was so much confusion in the beginning, I gave up. Perhaps if the two had come together sooner, and their relationship more fully developed, it would have caught my attention and held it better. This is creative and interesting, but needs more depth. Still worth a read, as I am getting to where I enjoy short quick reads sometimes.
I enjoyed reading this paranormal story. This is a new author for me which I enjoyed their writing skills as well as their attention to details that brought the story to life. This is a well written story about doing the right thing and getting caught. What happens in this book you don't want to miss. The characters are connectable, creative and pull you into their world from the start. This is a fast paced story that is hard to put down. I really enjoyed the story and the growth of the plot throughout. I highly recommend this book.
I haven't read many Viking stories- one or two before this. But I'm glad I picked this book up because I loved this story. It was a short, quick read, but I felt fully immersed in the culture of it. Great world building. The overall tone of it felt adventurous even though most of the story took place in Firtha's hut. I loved the characters. I wish it was longer so I could see more of Sören and Firtha's interactions. I recommend it and am looking forward to reading book two. 5 stars.
Great start to a new series! The author does a great job building the story and paints her scenes perfectly with her descriptive writing. She moves it quickly and smoothly as she brings Soren and Firtha's story, filling it with action, adventure and a bit of steam. The secondary characters help to brings the story around. I'm looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Excellent start to the series , I was a bit of a backward reader having read all the rest in series before catching up Soren’s story in this book , each of the Jurgensen Vikings brothers get their own book to tell their story as the journey goes on… I read an arc of this book and my review is mine voluntary
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and would heartily recommend it hoping others enjoy it as well. Imagine watching a giant Viking stride into your home carrying an axe and then falling unconscious. Such is what happened the day Firtha met Soren. Following these characters was truly amazing.
To allow a perceived enemy treat you in a land that you are a stranger takes guts but then again when the choice is not there, what else will be left to do. I thoroughly enjoyed every word of the book
It's just the story I needed to unwind. Not slot of heavy sex scenes, no fowl language, accurate history but not in depth. A stand-alone that makes you interested in other parts of a story. A happy ending .
Boy was Firtha patient 😂😂 no way would I have waited months to jump Soren’s bones!! I loved the story and can’t wait to read the next brother’s story. 💜💜💜💜💜
Very Very Good Story! Boy was Firtha patient 😂😂 no way would I have waited months to jump Soren’s bones!! I loved the story and can’t wait to read the next brother’s story. 💜💜💜💜💜
This was a fun, historical romp - it was incredibly (incredibly!) short, coming in at just 70 or so pages. Fun for what it was, and I'm sure I'd happily read about the rest of the brothers!
A wounded warrior and a healer are stranded in her cottage and found love. Her villagers were his enemies and thought she was a witch, so they fled to safety. A steamy, action-filled short story that you can't help but finish in one sitting.
I received an ARC of this book via StoryOrigin and leaving my review voluntarily.
