Outside her home, a war draws near. Outside the forest, evil forces conspire against her.
One day, she is forced to make an impossible choice to save a young child-a refugee from the approaching conflict. She must venture into a war zone at the risk of destroying her broken body. And shattering her fragile mind.
With surprising twists, lyrical prose, and unforgettable characters, Heather's Mannequin serves as an unflinching examination of trauma and the attendant victimhood of our times.

While reading the first chapter, it was an immediate hook for me because it was mysterious and I wanted to know more. I will also say that the overall story is entertaining mainly because of the world building and there are a lot of layers to the plot. The gothic underlying vibe was one of the main reason I kept reading (also, side note: the cover is gorgeous). Heather's journey is interesting to say the least and as a character she has her flaws but I will give her points because of her resilience. However, I will say that writing style is a bit unconventional. While I did get used to it, I did find it a bit stunted at times, as if there's a lack of flow in the story. I'm looking forward to read the sequel and find out what happens next in Heather's story. 🦄🦄🦄 Rated 8/10 Melina L.
