I thought the idea of a fake fiancé was ridiculous. My assistant was convinced it was the only way to get my mother and the board of my company off my back.
My life is already consumed with running a hotel empire. I don't even have time for the holiday party my mother is making me come back home for. Maybe I’m on the naughty list? Surely not.
In fact, I must have been very good this year, because when I arrive in the suite of my hotel I find one of the maids asleep in my bed. She’s a Christmas gift I never knew I needed. One I have no intention of giving back.
Now that I’ve met Aspen I realize I definitely don't need a fake fiancé, I need a wife. I’ve never met anyone even remotely qualified for the position. Until now.
I loved this Christmas novella. It was a common theme but told wonderfully by this author.
Hunter is being hounded by his mother to settle down. He comes to her Christmas party and stays in the hotel he owns. When he walks into the bedroom he sees a beautiful woman in his bed. Aspen is a maid at the hotel. She has been working multiple shifts and was exhausted so she took a quick nap in the penthouse suite that I not usually occupied.
It was really entertaining. It was instalove on Hunter’s part and he wants to lay claim quickly. Lovely Christmas romance.
"Only Christmas" is the story of Aspen and Hunter.
The hero is being harassed for marriage, when the idea of fake fiance is suggested to him. He refuses, until he literally finds the heroine in his bed and comes up with a scheme to make her his!
Short, sweet with loads of romance and a bit of drama.
Needed something fluffy to read on the commute to work but this was just way too cheesy and the insta-love/lust a tad annoying. Found myself double blinking in bafflement and scoffing a little.
A really sweet read Hunter is a ( rich , grumpy, loner , Virgin!!!) Who finds Aspen ( a maid , sweet, naive, poor ,virgin ,tired) sleeping in his 10 thousands a night room in His Hotel !! So what did he do ? He married her 😁 This was such a fluffy sweet read loved them both, epilogue was the cutest with their 3 boys and h Pregnant with a girl ❤
Such a sweet holiday romance! Hunter needs a fiancé and fast. Aspen gets caught in quite the predicament and has no choice but to take Hunter up on his offer. Lots of OTT moments. Heartwarming epilogue.
Aspen has had a very hard life. Hunter has shut himself off emotionally. That is until he finds Aspen in his bed. Loved this couple. Loved how fast pace this book was.
*QUICK ONE-LINER OPINION* A safe, quick and steamy festive insta-love read. The plot is a typical take on fairy tale but it is exactly what I like, therefore the 4 stars rating. Obviously being a novella, there is not enough time for strong story or character development. However, for a under-60-mins read, it has all the Christmasy feels and enough steam to warm you instantly.
Hunter finds Aspen asleep in his hotel room. Hunter has no idea how this beauty ended up in his room but he is happy she has. Aspen didn't mean to fall asleep in the soft bed. Hunter decides that he is keeping Aspen no matter what. These two are hot and steamy.
This was delightful. Soooo swoony! The hero was my crack—cold, driven, assholish, but melts for the heroine.
Double virgins so totally 💯 safe, there was unwanted attention from a skanky female but the hero shut it down quick. HEA with an epilogue years out to die for!!
Dual virgin No condoms Dual PoV, 1st person Billionaire hotel owner H, homeless strugglinb hotel maid h Cinderella like story Bit drama with H's step sist and H's stakeholder but easily solved No cheating Safe read, HEA, epilogue Overall score: 3.5 OTT instalove stars
It was refreshing to read a book where both love interests are virgins. It's usually only the heroine but this one was both of them.
Hunter and Aspen met in the most unconventional and hilarious way - she was sleeping on his bed in his hotel suite after a long shift. From the very beginning Hunter felt possessive of her and took the opportunity to marry her to make his family back off.
This marriage not only was of convenience for Hunter but for Aspen as well. Aspen's mother walked out on her a few months ago leaving her to fend for herself and the struggles the came with it.
All in all, this was a good and sweet read that I'll come back to read for time!
Luxury hotel setting, a grumpy entrepreneur, a lovely damsel in distress, and an insta-romance fit for a modern Cinderella. I absolutely loved this little story with the most rushed hero to get his happily ever after.
Hunter is being hunted by every female but his love radar only starts working when he finds a sleeping beauty in his hotel room and suddently needs to protect her. So he claims her in body and soul. So exciting!
There are some hot scenes as this man can't keep his hands off her, yet they are also very sweet. Aspen and Hunter have to fight for their whirlwind romance. His social status has earned him many enemies. However, he finds his heart melting to love and family thanks to her. And she finds the family and support that she craved.
Comedy reigns in the end. Perfect. And the epilogue is so cute! Really great for a holiday read.
Plot: Aspen is a struggling maid at a fancy hotel, but she's having a bit of a shelter problem and ends up falling asleep in the penthouse instead of making it back to a shelter or her car or a less conspicuous room. She's woken up by none other than the owner, who is in town to try and appease his matchmaking mother. Aspen is perfect for his plans. He'll convince her to pretend to be his fiance to get his mother off his back, but it doesn't take long for him to change their plans; he wants her as his real bride, not his fake fiancee. Now all they have to do is navigate a not-so-close-knit family during the holidays.
Commentary: Sweet, as are all this author's stories. There's the alpha male, rich, handsome, and take charge. Then there's the sweet, innocent, down-on-her-luck heroine. He swoops in, saves her, and lavishes all the adoration that she deserves. Love it - tried and true.
This was such a sweet, love filled, hot little Christmas story that that just completely warms your heart. And makes you fall in love. Hunter, a closed off grumbly billionaire, walks into his suite only to find Aspen, a sleeping angel in his bed. Instantly, his whole ism changes due to her. He wants her and does what it takes to have her. And she wants everything he’s giving. A perfect match ❤️
I love when a man is instantly enamored with a woman and that’s exactly what we got in this Christmas romance. Hunter was a man obsessed and I flew through this short read. I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for a quick Christmas read with a lot of spice.
What a great read. The plot was amazing and the characters were so easy to love. The last thing Hunter expected was to find an angel sleeping in his bed or that he would want to let her leave. So he marries her before she even thinks to do so. Highly recommended
I’ll start with the heroine. She’s young, pretty, sweet, naïve and helpless. Despite everything life’s thrown at her, she managed to stay 'good' and 'nice'. The hero, of course, is big, rich and wants to take care of her as soon as he sees her. This all I’ve come to expect from this author, and I was fine with that. What I didn’t like was that he always spoke for her and she didn’t have any opinions or aspirations of her own, but I still continued reading.
There was his stepsister and I knew that she’d be the main villain. I hate it when author makes another woman to be envious and bitchy. The heroine is this lovely ray of sunshine, while the other woman is dirt.
The heroine here is spineless and she never stood up for herself. Whenever she had an opportunity to confront Charlotte, the stepsister, someone else spoke for her and defended her. It was so annoying.
There was one scene where Hunter told Charlotte of, and our lovely heroine sent Charlotte a smug smile. How lame and petty is that? First a coworker spoke for her, then the hero came to finish defending her, all the while she just stood there and said nothing. And the heroine had the nerve to be smug when she let others fight her battles. That action just showed that she was even worse than Charlotte, the villain. She at least doesn't hide behind a mask of niceness.
Then, near the end, she slapped Charlotte, and I wanted to slap her so badly. She never, not even once, stood up to Charlotte, haven’t said a single word to her and yet had the nerve to slap her? And as soon as she hit her, Hunter came and she hid behind him like the coward she is. I was so pissed. If you're so brave to hit her, then stand and face the consequences!
And Charlotte’s father. He was supposed to be a good guy here. He said once that she’s as bad as her mother. It was mentioned that her mother got pregnant by accident and he married her. Marrying the mother of your child doesn’t make you a father, let alone good one. And men like him, the ones who marry for the child, usually don’t give a shit for the child or mother. They’re just fathers on paper and aren’t involved in child’s life and upbringing. They marry so the people don’t judge them and so they don’t feel guilty, meaning they don’t do it for the child, they do it for themselves. Then they run away from all responsibilities parenthood brings and if the child doesn’t turn out to be perfect, they blame the mother, never once considering that their absence and lack of interest affected that child.
How Charlotte acted was wrong, but instead of anyone trying to help and talk to her, everyone just painted her as a bad guy and no one tried to understand and reason with her.
I think this is my 3rd time rereading this Lucy Darling story... And it really just tick ALL the boxes, and admittedly I have a bit of a mix bag of specific boxes that are almost always hard to check when put together. That's why I wanted to leave this review, knowing its even better the 3rd time I read it than the first. ( today is July 2022, I'm sure the fist time I read it was fairly close to its original release date. I picked it up today at fist became the cover art is simular to a couple other books I read, and could remember if this fit in and whether it had related characters to the 2 prior story's ( I can't find a character connection so far) Nd it want only I borrowed it again and stared it that I remembered oh yes, I had read this but continued because I remembered how much I liked it. I'm guessing here but I this it was published in 2020? Point being I just saw a Lucy darling title with SIM cover art again that I know I haven't read decay it came out a few days ago end of July 2022; and now that was what prompted me to make sure I'd read the other's, because when they are as good as these characters , I LOVE serious continuations, especially if its the far enough apart to be next generation of a really awesome couple ) And I don't know yet cause ill dl that book after I finish this review but I just had to say ASPEN AND HUNTER ARE TOP FIVE FAVORITE COUPLES I can say with certainly, and again, I'm kinda picky with my high expectations in this genre. And by that I mean, these are definitely " comfort books" and my criteria for comfort reads has a near impossible strict low to zero Drama / Angst bar , and I'm aware of how unrealistic my preference can be, but it is what it is. But here is a prime example of a story that's plotline is written with a higher level of drama than my zero bar, but its done WELL, and its source is outside the main characters / couple actions both individually, and together which is what makes the story great. Aspen is awesome, sweet but not NAIVE as much as everyone assume because of her caring ways, people assume she's " blind" to the baddies that would take advantage of her kindness, but as the story points out early, she's not at all fooled, having grown up around adults who showed her the real word from a young age, but she still didn't let it " touch her ", meaning she stayed aware, but not blindly wary and universally Un trusting of everyone, she had good instics, thats why she was able to keep that sweetness and not let it color her outlook with bitterness... Ok this was a bit of a ramble at the end But in short 200% RECOMMENDED INSTA CLICK READ!
This is a cute Christmas romance, but it was just too unrealistic to be believable. It gets 3 stars from me.
My main issue with this story was that it was just so unrealistic. I get that realism is not exactly prominent in romances, but this one was just too much for me. Hunter, who was known to be obsessed with his work, with no interest in a wife or relationship, suddenly falls in instalove with Aspen? And he does that when he catches her sleeping in his hotel room, when she is supposed to be working? I just didn't buy that he would do that.
Aspen was likable, but she was too much of a doormat for my taste. She had concerns about Hunter's demand that she marry him, but didn't really stand up for herself. She was so concerned that he would fire her, and didn't think that marrying a man she just met would be a mistake? I wanted her to be more self-assertive, and didn't buy that she would agree to his marriage demands. I also wanted her to stand up for herself with his stepsister, who treated her terribly.
I also thought Hunter was a little too controlling and obsessive with Aspen. I get that he was an alpha male, and wanted to take care of her, but I found his behavior a bit off-putting -- especially his ridiculous jealousy.
Overall, the story was entertaining. I just wanted the romance to be more believable, not instalove, and wanted the couple to fall in love in a more reasonable time frame.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Only Christmas was about Hunter Hoffman, the CEO and owner of the family hotel empire, and Aspen Bell Loveall (?), a maid at one of his hotels. (There weren't any ages given, so it is only by guessing that the reader would determine this. At one point, Hunter said it looked like Aspen was in her early 20s, but later there was mention of guardianship, so this was truly unknown. As for the MMC, one could only guess that he was in his late 20s to mid-30s, and that was deduced only by his role in his company as the CEO.)
Hunter was on his way to visit with his mother and stepfather for the holidays. He chose to stay in the penthouse suite at his local hotel instead of at the family residence. His mother was pushing for him to marry, or at least have a girlfriend. She was even going so far as to set him up with a series of dates. So Hunter's PA, Marco had suggested he get a fake girlfriend to appease his mother. He wasn't keen on the idea.
Upon entering the master bedroom, Hunter spied a sleeping woman in his bed. He chased all other men (security and his PA) away so they didn't lay eyes on her. From that point on, things between Hunter went from 0 to 60 in less than two seconds.
This was a fantastic story, with a boat-load of angst, drama, and spiciness. The emotional rollercoaster was in full steam, with all of the usual twists and turns one comes to expect from such stories. It had its fair share of heartache, passion, doubts, fears, hope, anger, deceit, and even a touch of humor laced within its pages.
Both of the main characters were fully developed and fleshed out. While the MMC seemed much more mature than the FMC, it worked for the way this book played out.
There were some questionable errors sparsely laced throughout the book, but not enough to detract from the storyline or plot. The flow was never interrupted, and it reached a sweet HEA. I gave this story a full five-star rating and will be adding it to my Keeper for the Shelves collection.
I enjoyed reading the instant love Hunter had for Aspen. She actually brought herself up because her mother was and addict who would do anything for money. Her grandmother was there for her but when she passed, Aspen was on her own. Hunter was the owner of several hotels, the son of a woman who was on her fifth marriage. Hunter didn't believe in love and had quite the attitude until he found Aspen sleeping in his bed. She was working housekeeping in one of his hotels also sleeping in empty rooms. Hunter met her and married her within 24 hours. Read what the hustlers and jealous people try to do to both of them. I found it to be a good book and hope you will too. Written by Cindy :)
