Ebooks are released as quickly as I'm able to and the ebooks are for readers who don't want to wait for chapters. Which I totally understand! Serial stories are not for everyone! Please only read Hot Vampire if you're okay with waiting for ebooks to release as with any other story. Or, if you don't like waiting, you can continue reading on Vella.

This doesn’t even have pages on here LOL I’m only putting it so it counts for my yearly total.
If I had known “season one” meant “ongoing story on Amazon’s version of wattpad” I wouldn’t have read it, but here we are.
I think this is fine, just not for me (the romance at least). I actually found myself a little interested in the world and how everything worked, but it was ruined by the weird insta love with the random dude who says one thing to her and she’s like “I’m falling for him”
I’m a killjoy sometimes and it really just depends on my mood but here I couldn’t buy the romance and that’s like… the whole point of the story so I won’t be reading on

Oh great. Another totally addicting series by Nikki St. Crowe that I can't stop reading 😂I'vee been devouring her books and once I start a new series I can't put them down until I've finished them all. This is a spicy vampireparanormall series with some mystery!

I just finished reading ‘Hot Vampire Next Door: Season One (Midnight Harbor Book 1),’ by Nikki St. Crowe and you guys… IT WAS HOT 🔥🔥🔥! There are NO spoilers and I’m not affiliated with the author!
So this is the first book/season of the first 18 episodes in a Kindle Vella serial with an open-ended number of episodes 😲! Only the first book/season is available at the time of this review on KU and the second book/season of episodes 19-36 (which I AM SUPER EXCITED 🤩 FOR!!!) is going to be available in February👏🏻! Episodes are released weekly via Kindle Vella and then once the author feels like a grouping of episodes would make a book (or season,) she makes them available on KU! Due to this format, the books are short… about 130ish pages… which I ABSOLUTELY LOVED ❤️ because it was such a nice breath of fresh air 🌬 for me to page turn straight through on a sunny ☀️ afternoon on my porch! 🙌🏻
OK! So the story starts off with a FMC who is just days away from her PLEDGING ✊🏻! In a world where humans need protection from sups, they pledge themselves as bloodbags 🩸to a Vampire family when they come of age! But things aren’t as simple as they seem (when are they really?! 😅) and she is immediately thrown into sort of a pis$ing contest of who wants 💋😉 our girl the most & why 😁! Enter her HOT 🥵 next door neighbor, who happens to be the biggest of vampire baddies 👊🏻, and this story gets steamy 🔥 & FAST 🏃🏻♀️!
First off!!! Guys I just LOVED this book 👏🏻! I LOVED 😍 the writing in this book! Super straightforward, funny 😆, smart 💡, and easy to page-turn 📖! It’s right up my alley with my preferred writing style! It’s just sooo smartly written with dialogue that is refreshingly realistic and like, what I think the character should say 🙌🏻… but not in a predictable way 👏🏻. I chuckled 🤭 a lot with the dialogue because it was like… damn straight, y’all 😎! I just literally FLEW through this book and eagerly went to get the second one (to only find out it’s not ready yet 😩!) But ✋🏻! I’m not one to hold that against this book or author! Because this book was pretty FANTASTIC 🤩! So much so, I had to write this as soon as I finished it to let y’all know! 🥳🥳🥳
So I really think the FMC is GREAT 🤩! She’s quirky, funny, independent, and shameless 😲💋😁👏🏻! There were several times I had a chuckle with her dialogue and inner monologue 😅. She’s refreshingly in tune with what she wants and we skip right past some of that typical FMC inner turmoil of debating “should I 😍” or “shouldn’t I 😩?!” Our girl is like… YEP, my neighbor is a HOTTIE 🔥 and YEP, I’m STARING 👀 at him in his birthday suit through my window 🪟, and YEP I SHOULDN’T be…but like… can you blame me 🥵😂?!? And OMG 😱 the MMC is SMOKING 🔥🥵🔥. He has comebacks for DAYS 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. He’s super HOT 🥵 🍆🥵 and super badass 🤺 and super snarky 😏 and like… smart 🤓. I FREAKIN loved ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 him!! He’s definitely one to burn 🔥 down the world down for our girl and I AM HERE FOR IT 🙋🏻♀️👏🏻! There was one scene where I was like .. Oh Boy 👏🏻 Oh Boy 👏🏻… hold my beer 🍺 … this is gonna get good 😁😁😂😂! Ok so what about the plot!? It’s actually really GREAT 🥳. It has a bit of adventure and movement, especially for such a short book!! I was super excited about what character we were going to meet next! I love ❤️ love ❤️ love ❤️ when a book throws in multiple alphas and there’s that HINT of them all wanting 😍 our girl! And this book definitely has that vibe! And I DO NOT think it is a RH, FYI! And there is MYSTERY🔎! There were some clues and I had an idea where it was going… so the end wasn’t a major surprise to me… but honestly, that’s because I read A LOT of books in the Fantasy 🧚♀️ genres, so I can pick up on little hints pretty easily ☺️. I think someone NEW to this genre will be really, really blown away 🤯 by the ending! That being said, I still was really into it and I still don’t have all the answers 🥳! The ending is a small cliffhanger, but it’s not bad at all! But I do REALLY want Book 2 … like NOW 😂! And since these are so short, I’ll drop whatever I’m reading when Book 2 comes out and I’ll pick it up! Heck, with this story, I’d probably do that anyway even if it was a full length book! 😆
So if you love a FMC that is shameless 😵💋, a MMC that is a SMOKIN hot 🥵 , snarky 😏, smart mouth 👄bad-boy, some freaking HOT 🔥 STEAM that doesn’t hold back, some alpha pi$sing contests 😆, a SHORT book that you can page turn over a chillaxed 🌴 afternoon, and some cool MYSTERY 🔎 in the plotline … give this a shot! Addicted but Incredibly Frustrated
Despite the fact that I was intrigued by the premise and really wanted to read this when it first came out, I held back. I HATE serial reads! I'm a binge reader and have learned my lesson about starting incomplete series. There's nothing more disappointing than falling in love with a story that ends on a cliff hanger, and the next installment or conclusion never sees the light of day.
When I originally saw this advertised as part of Amazon's new serial, pay per the chapter scheme like so many other apps out now, I followed it but didn't dive in. Then when I saw it advertised as an actual KU book, I downloaded and immediately started reading.
Damn it's good, and I'm so caught up in the story! But I am pissed that it ends in the middle with a link referring you to the next installment via "Vella" where you have to pay by the chapter. What a rip-off!
Is there going to be another KU release? How many chapters via Vella? Is this story going to end up costing $20+ to read?!
As a big corporation (I'm looking at you, Amazon), how much more are you going to nickel and dime us for every little thing you add to your services when we're already paying multiple membership fees to you?! As a writer, I completely understand serial reads. They're more manageable when you're living your writing dream part-time, and they can also be more profitable. I get it, so I mean absolutely no disrespect to the writer. In fact, props to you, Ms. St. Crowe, this story is incredible (so far)! As an avid reader and paying subscriber to multiple parts of Amazon (Prime, KU, and more), this blows!

But also has no end in sight apparently. Originated in something called kindle Vella which sounds kinda like one of those chapter games where you pay for episodes. She’s releasing ebook versions which is how I read it, but it literally says there’s no scheduled end, so keep that in mind.

I honestly don't have much to say about this book. Super quick read. Definitely a good idea to read the trigger warnings.
There is no depth to the characters. It's more of a "this what I'm here for" vibe. And the steamy scenes are quite entertaining lol

2.5 ⭐ The way I have a thing for vampires 🤭😂
...but, this one was just MEH. Maybe because it was a novella and not enough? I just think the spice was slightly cringy and took away from the plot. I love Nikki St. Crowe's other series but I think I'll skip this one. I also hated the nickname and "virgin" talk.

This is book one in the Midnight Harbor series.
We meet female mc Jess aka Mouse and male MC Bran. Bran is a... pretty old vampire. Jess is a human. Bran nicknames her Mouse. They start off as neighbors, and eventually become more.. pretty quickly actually. In their world, humans are "contracted" out in various ways to supernatural. They may be committed as a "blood bag" to a vampire, commit to shifters, etc. Most of Jess's family has been committed to one particular vampire family over the decades, and same is expected of Jess, but it's not what she wants. Bran is not part of that vampire family. But there's always been an attraction there.
Bran tries to warn Mouse of a pending issue coming for her, and that's when the insta-love starts for them both.
Keep in mind that this is an ongoing series that started on kindle vella. It is not a finished series.

So far, this is a good read. I’m going to immediately read season 2 because naturally, it leaves you with a huge cliffhanger.

The relationship that Bran and Jessie have is very fast paced and honestly, a little crazy. But since they live next door to each other, I’m sure they’ve always had this lingering feeling towards each other but no one has mentioned anything until now, especially with the Pledging coming up, which I still don’t really understand.
But I am very very curious with what happens next. Another binge able series from Nikki!

First you should know this book was written as a chapter by chapter sort of release (think Wattpad, GoodNovel, Webnovel, GALATEA, etc.) through Kindle Vella. So it flows like that- fairly fast paced, more punch per chapter than a traditional novel. If that's not your kind of fun to read then pass on, if so, then consider this one more like cotton candy for your mind and heart. Not necessarily nutritious but tempting and dissolves very fast on the tongue. You'll fly through her books so beware! It's not a finished story.

This isn't a book - its a series from kindle Vella - luckily its complete so you can get the full story - It broken down into chapters and there are 106 of them. Every chapter ends on a low-key cliffhanger but in this "box" set you can get chapters 1-18. So it reads like a novella.
Finishing the story cost me - but it was only about $6. More on that later in Season 4's review.

Going into this, I knew it was a collection of episodes first put out on kindle vella. I am enjoying the storyline, but as with all episodic stories, each chapter feels condensed and the overall story seems to be told in a very accelerated way. Episodes need to have action to keep the reader coming back for more, but when in a collection like this, it makes the stoey seemed very insta and rushed.

My Thoughts
This reads very much like a TV series. It was a quick, fast paced read and the plot was interesting. It gives spicy Vampire Diaries vibes so if you liked The Vampire Diaries you’ll probably enjoy this. The romantic aspect of this was very surface level but undeniably hot. I did enjoy reading this but I think I’m still coming down off my Kingdom of the Feared high so I probably need a contemporary romance palette cleanser then I can carry on with the series.
The Romance
They had a little animosity for each other in the beginning but that fizzled out pretty quickly (she did stab him I guess 🤷). It felt insta-lusty which I’m not a fan of but I know lots of people would probably enjoy it. I felt very disconnected from their romantic story line and was not massively invested in it. I have heard lots of people say how spicy this was but I found it pretty mild so far.
Characters
Bran doesn’t seem very scary or even morally grey if I’m honest. He’s actually a pretty decent guy and is relatively helpful and chilled out. Jessie is not particularly memorable so far (if I’m really honest I didn’t actually remember that was her name until halfway through) but I think she would grow on me as the series went on.
Supporting Characters
We haven’t seen a lot of the supporting characters yet but they’ve all been interesting so far.
Plot
The story moved really fast. I didn’t mind the non-romance related plot moving quickly but I definitely felt like the relationship progressed too quickly. I did enjoy the story however and I would like to know what happens in the next book.

What. A. Blast! I loved this romp... It scratches that CW Vampire Diaries itch. Sexy, irresistible, dangerous, vampire (big-time Damon vibes) who lives next door to an innocent-ish FMC Jessie, that he calls Mouse...

There's some politics around species and families in this supernatural rich town... and Jesse is at the center of something she wants to understand but can't yet... she needs more information.
Is it like other stuff... ya, but do I care. NOPE! Not even a little bit.

When I saw this book was ranked #1 in three major categories I thought “am I missing out on a gold mine right now??”
Turns out I very much was because this novella was a solid 5 star read for me 👏🏼
First off, this was Vampire Diaries on smutty steroids. Bran gave me HUGE Damon vibes except Bran has a penchant for the phrase “good girl” & damnit if that didn’t have me in a puddle on the floor.
Secondly, the lore was totally unique, captivating & sucked me in from the very first page. I love that we have a universe where shifters, vampires, witches & fae all (reluctantly) coexist. The pledging, the vampire houses, this huge underlying storyline we’re slowly unraveling, everything was 🤌🏼🤌🏼
Bran & Jessie together? Good gods it’s magic. Hot, dirty, heart racing magic.
A warning, this is an ongoing series through Kindle Vella with no decided end date so if open series stress you out, be aware 👀

There are black tattoos running back along the sides of his skull, down the back of his neck to disappear beneath the collar of his red and black flannel.
