Someone has been abducting women with long dark hair across Virginia. When the FBI is called in to help, Alex Donovan, a behavioral analyst, is tasked with putting together a profile. She's aided by her friend and colleague Logan Hart, but he has been acting strangely and won't say why. When the kidnapper demands that Alex meet him at an abandoned amusement park in exchange for the location of all his captives, she takes the bait. But the meeting proves to be a trap, and the building she's in explodes.

Finding herself imprisoned with several other women, Alex works to think one step ahead of her captor. But the more Logan and the BAU learn about the kidnapper, the more they fear Alex may not make it out alive this time.

Free Fall by Nancy Mehl (Book 3 in The Quantico Files Series) - 4 Stars

This book concludes The Quantico File Series and I have fully enjoyed my time while reading it! I buddy read this entire series with my friend Theresa and we had the BEST time chatting through all the crazy twists and turns throughout the series! We became so attached to the characters and the faith content was wonderful with many prayers, salvation stories and trusting in God throughout each trial.

In this story we continue to follow Alex and Logan in the FBI's Behavioral Analyst Unit (BAU) and this time they need to profile someone who is abducting and imprisoning several women. One woman we see her POV of throughout the story is Tracy and she tries finding ways out left and right. Alex finds herself right in the middle of these missing women and works to be one step ahead of the man behind it all. Why does this man abduct the women only to feed them gourmet meals, give them nice clothes, books to read, etc.? Is he searching for a specific women? The story kicks of here as Alex sets out to find out, while Logan's health situation remains in the Lord's hands....

The one thing I loved most about this book was the faith content. This one had the most for me personally and I loved how powerful it was, especially with Logan's POV. My only complaints with this one was I felt like the ending was a bit too rushed. We didn't see much of Logan and Alex together as I would have liked, which is fine, but by the ending, I wish we had more time with them after all of the suspense events ended. Additionally, we never really see how things ended with the women who were rescued as I hoped we would have, specifically Tracy since we saw her POV quite a bit. I would have liked more updates there after it was all over. I also feel like sometimes we didn't see enough searching for Alex with a sense of urgency as I thought there should be but all in all, these things didn't take away from the story for me, I still LOVED this series and Nancy Mehl is a FAVORITE Christian Suspense author for me. She may be an autobuy now!

As far as content warnings, there were some mentions of killings, off page, women being abducted and held in imprisonment etc., but nothing that went over my boundaries.

I devoured this book in just over a day!
“Hope in God is a powerful thing. It is the bridge to faith.”
This third book of the series is much more of a mental puzzle. The same team is together again, with Alex and Logan still trying to deny feelings for each other and both are progressing in their Christian walk. “God will give you beauty for ashes, Alex. But we have to give Him the ashes.”
They start to unravel the case of a missing woman who resembles Alex, resulting in her capture. Ms. Mehl puts a twist on things when the setting is an abandoned amusement park and a villain who seems kind and keeps his victims alive. As the clues mount up, it is questionable if the team can get to the victims in time. We also see Logan with some health issues that make him unable to be fully involved, but he relies on God and prayer.
I like the way the team works together, considering themselves a family.
Ms. Mehl gives us suspense, danger and the convoluted mind of a criminal. As always, she gives hope in her stories. “The Bible was so clear. Evil comes to kill, steal and destroy, God gives life.”
Do not miss this unusual and insightful tale from a highly capable author.

Nancy Mehl has become one of my favorite suspense authors. Seriously, this woman can keep you on the edge of your toes. You know it's brilliant writing when a "profiler" can keep you riveted. I keep thinking that much of that has to do with Mehl's wonderful characterization. She creates such sympathetic and endearing characters... quirky. Quirky characters are seriously the best.

But once you've got that, you still need a criminal whose actions make you think. Make you angry. And... yeah. Mehl does it all.

In this one, the carnies, the old song (I'll never sing it the same again), and the missing women... Whoa...

After I read Night Fall, the first book in the Quantico Files series, I determined that the creep-factor was too high for my comfort level so I didn't read the second book, Dead Fall, and wasn't planning on reading this one either except for a dear reading friend who implored me to read Free Fall because she knew I would love it. And, yes, I trust her so much that I preordered the audible edition and listened to it all in a day and a half. And guess what? Diane was right! I loved it!

So, there's still a creep factor, but it didn't feel as sinister as in the first book. Yes, we're still dealing with a serial kidnapper but the focus was more on the behavioural analyst aspects of working a case and we don't get tons of creepy villain POV which helped a lot. We do get to follow one of the victims though, which upped the angst and brought a different kind of edge to the overall suspense.

While this is the third book in a series where both the romance and the characters' faith journeys are developed through each book, I do think you could read Free Fall as a standalone. I was thrown a bit with the opening scene until I realized it was one of those teaser 'drop the reader into the middle of the story and then backtrack to the actual beginning' kind of starts. You know, the kind that are popular on television dramas, where they begin with the dark moment and then the next scene is "nine days earlier" and the rest of the show builds back up to that dire point? So this first scene, is that, and you aren't meant to know what's going on -- it isn't because you missed something from book two. Phew! Hope that makes sense. :-)

The absolutely glorious part of this book is the plethora of inspirational threads that tie into the title in so many wonderful ways. Powerful and moving and profound -- the kind of novel that not only enriches a reader but magnifies her faith. So grateful to the author for providing so many awe-inspiring moments throughout this story. I was madly trying to transcribe quotes as I listened. Like:

"God will give us beauty for ashes, but we have to give him the ashes." Yeah, think about that for a second. Because I'm guilty of hoarding my ashes instead of releasing them into His care.

"Just let God be God." Sigh...it really is that simple so why do I make it so complicated?

Both Alex and Logan are challenged in a myriad of ways and this story broke tradition and blazed a new path for Christian Fiction suspense. I'm still processing so many nuances of plot and character development. Really, just stunning!

I listened to the addible edition narrated by Vanessa Daniels who kept me riveted to the sigh-worthy conclusion.

No Spoilers~

Brilliant suspense author, Nancy Mehl, has knocked it out of the ballpark...er, rather the amusement park, I should say—in this riveting, hair-raising adventure guaranteed to take the reader on a twisty, emotional roller-coaster ride that kept me on tenterhooks from the prologue!

FBI agents, Alex Donovan and Logan Hart are once again in cahoots, searching for a serial kidnapper who is targeting women with similar physical attributes. Wondering if wig and hair dye sales escalated in VA during their search for this psychopath-just sayin'! The chemistry between Alex and Logan is almost palpable—the camaraderie between all the FBI agents is touching, humorous, and vulnerable—but nonetheless professional, intelligent, and tough. There's so much more I'd like to say, but those itty bitty things called spoilers stopped me dead in my tracks. Oops, scratch the word "dead." Yikes!

Suffice it to say, I was tremendously impressed with the uniqueness and originality of this plot...yes, it has the creep factor we all love in suspense fiction, but none of the typical "dime a dozen" drug trafficking and terrorism issues I'm tiring of. I challenge you to try and put this book down—an almost impossible feat to be sure! An action-packed, eerie whodunit both men AND women will enjoy (just a smidgen of romance, guys)—'Free Fall' may just be my favorite Nancy Mehl novel yet!

"Free Fall" by Nancy Mehl is such an engaging read! This is the third book in the Quantico series. There is some mention of some characters in the first two novels, but you can read this story alone. This book was so hard to put down. And there were times that it was so suspenseful I couldn't read it at night. It kept me up way too late! I loved the romantic tension between Alex and Logan and their characters were very well developed. They felt like old friends. There was such a twist at the end. I really thought it was going to turn out one way, but it ended up being very different than what I thought. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy good, clean, romantic suspense novels.

I received this novel from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion.

That was interesting!

Alex is so human in this book. She's a new Christian and struggling with healing from her trauma. There was a lot in here about trusting God with what we are dealing with.

The case was quite sad. One thing that it showed me was that how we treat people is so important. We never can know the far-reaching consequences of our actions and we should never be intentionally cruel. I figured out one thing decently far in advance but there was something else that caught me completely off guard!

There were some really cool spiritual things in this book that kind of surprised me but fit really well. Just not something you typically find in a book like this. However, some of the elements were a little too... I don't know how to say it. They claimed certain promises and kept saying things would be okay and it just made me squirm a bit because these are the kinds of things that can lead to huge disappointment in God if it doesn't happen. It's hard to explain without spoilers!

It was also hard for me to read about a certain health issue because everyone I've known with similar issues have not faired as well. Man, trying to keep this spoiler-free is HARD!!

The resolution seemed really fast compared to the measured pace of the rest of the book. There was a lot going on in this book and it was a nice conclusion to the series. I liked getting to know Alex and Logan and Monty and Jeff. They are a fabulous team! And having Kaely Quinn in the second book was so great! Nancy Mehl has written a great series!

Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and a favorable review was not required.

“Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I’m half crazy, all for the love of you . . .”

“The monsters jumped out at you when you least expected it, and even though you knew they were there, each time it happened you couldn’t help but scream in fear.”

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

4.5 Stars Out Of 5

In my opinion, this was definitely the best Nancy Mehl book I have read to date! The suspense was top notch from start to finish. It had some creepy moments and the book was very well written. I enjoyed how the series is progressing with Logan and Alex with the Behavioral Analysis Unit, and Mehl throws in some nice curveballs. A lot of her books I guess this ending but I had no clue where this was going and it had a very satisfying ending.

As always, there are a lot of spiritual elements in her books. I lost count the amount of scriptures and prayers in this one so it is definitely not watered down. The theme of faith and hope and struggling with stress and anxiety as you try to cast your cares on Jesus was great. It didn’t take away from the story but only enhanced it.

I deducted half a star since this was another Christian book with praying Jesus in your heart without mention of baptism and the Holy Spirit.

The Quantico Files has been an exciting series and Free Fall is certainly a thrilling addition! I'm always amazed by author Nancy Mehl's ability to create such evil villains and the Ghost Rider may be one of the worst yet. Alex Donovan's commitment to stopping his madness and Logan Hart's efforts to protect her make this an intense tale filled with twists, turns, and non-stop danger. As they continue to encounter immense obstacles, there are many times when hope seems lost, but Alex and Logan possess great faith. They are true examples of believing in, and trusting in, the power of God!

This is the third book with Alex and Logan, and we get to see their professional and personal relationship progress to a much deeper level. Yes, there is some romance but Free Fall is primarily a psychological thriller that is laced with a compelling faith message. I recommend it to all who enjoy Christian suspense novels.

This book has a lot of characters and a lot going on. I didn't read the previous books, but was still able to enjoy the story.

This book felt like a bunch of generes in one. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't one of the best books I've read. I think more of a streamlined focus would have helped.

The ending to The Quantico Files was really good. I enjoyed the relationship aspect with Alex and Logan. I also think the faith content in all of Mehl's books is great, but this one was much more evident than others I've read. A solid ending to a good trilogy!!! 4/5 stars!

Featuring FBI behavioral specialist Alex Donovan and her teammate Logan Hart, this book had me spellbound with the intense action and intrigue. The plot revolves around young women who are being kidnapped by an unknown psychopath. Unfortunately for her, Alex resembles the kidnapped victims, so she really needs to get the profile right before she becomes a victim herself. There is a sub-plot about Logan’s health that sidelines him from action with the team, but it does not keep him from praying for and supporting the team. I really enjoyed the faith parts of this book, especially as more of the team members begin to pray and focus on belief in God. The action was non-stop and heart-pounding. I enjoyed all of the characters but none more so than Alex who was feisty, courageous and selfless. All of the characters were portrayed realistically and made the story an engaging read. The plot was written well, with plenty of suspense and multiple clues and red herrings along the way. I have read all of the Quantico Files books and this one is my favorite because of its character development and dual plot line. This book can be read as a standalone even though it is part of a series. Fans of romantic suspense, with the emphasis on suspense, will enjoy this faith-filled testimony to the power of believing in God in tough situations.

"Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you."

A carnival toy tune or something far more sinister? F.B.I. Behavioral Analysts Alex Donovan and Logan Hart have been tasked with profiling a serial abductor, whose practiced stealth is causing quite a stir. What makes the situation a bit creepy is that the victims all closely resemble Alex.

When the kidnapper throws down the gauntlet and demands that Alex become personally involved, her team has a decision to make . . . . let Alex take the risk or pass by a chance to save the lives of multiple women. The timing couldn't be worse for Logan. It seems that Alex and Logan both have some soul searching ahead of them, as they commit their lives to the One who has promised them His presence, no matter what, even when their hearts are saying what words cannot express.

" You mean can I tell you about waking up at night, sweating unable to breathe, feeling like my heart will burst from fear? Can I tell you I feel like I'm falling through space and the only safe place to land is by your side? That I don't know if I can go on without you? That there's a chance you may never see me again after tomorrow?"

You might find yourself holding your breath numerous times before this case is solved!

Well, every time I read one of Nancy Mehl's new books, I declare that it is my favorite book and NOW I have a new favorite book! Free Fall is magnificient! I honestly finished reading this book in 24 hours and I HAD to take some breaks for the happenings of life and still managed to finish it because I simply HAD TO KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN! Alex Donavan and her colleague Logan Hart have scarcely recovered from their last case when their boss at the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) gives them a missing woman case. Normally, they don’t profile UNSUBs for a single missing person, but the boss thinks Alex and Logan deserve a break.

No one realizes until Alex and Logan start their investigation that multiple women have gone missing—and they all fit the same description. Each victim has long brown hair, a slender build, and blue eyes. The perfect description of Alex. Logan worries for her safety as his feelings for her intensify. But health issues keep him from working the case the way he wants to—leaving him feeling vulnerable.

When the UNSUB sees Alex on a local network, he demands Alex meet him or the missing women will die.

Why I Loved This Book

Third in the Quantico Files series, Free Fall takes readers on a wild ride inside the mind of a killer. Mehl’s strong faith shines through in this installment, as newly converted Alex learns to claim the promises of the Bible to overcome her fears. Logan’s mature faith gets tested as well, as he faces the unknown.

Fans of Lisa Harris, Colleen Coble, and Carrie Stuart Parks will enjoy this novel.

Nancy Mehl does it again, another thriller! I love the way her books build upon each other’s extended plot, yet a reader can still read the book independently of the others and feel informed. This is the second book with the character, Alex as the main character.
The plot begins with personal tragedy for the family of analysts, a health crisis. As Logan battles his brain tumor, Alex battles a serial kidnapper. Always intrigued with the behavior analyst side of these plots, Mehl fills in the details and leave enough mystery to unfold it all in the last chapter. The reader feels compelled to keep reading until the end.
The author weaves a theme of faith, healing and Go’s provision into both parallels plots. We see God’s goodness extend to her partner, Logan as she extends complete faith in the Lord for solving the case.

The violence and sexual references are at a minimum in this book, and therefor it is appropriate for a teenage reader. I was given this book in exchange for my review.

Free Fall by Nancy Mehl continues the story of Alex Donovan and Logan Hart, agents with the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). This time they face insurmountable danger as they discover multiple women have gone missing and they all have the same look. A killer is on the hunt, looking for a specific woman and abducting anyone that looks like her. But while Alex gets closer to finding the taken women, Logan deals with serious life-altering issues of his own, not to mention his growing feelings for Alex.

I’ve been a fan of the entire Quantico Files series. Free Fall brings danger and suspense on every page. But this story has more of a spiritual arc to it. Both Alex and Logan face their biggest fears and the story deals with more personal issues as well as solving a heinous crime. If you like stories where the characters grow and change by the end, definitely check out Free Fall. I recommend the entire series.

Nancy Mehl still ranks way up there as one of the few top mystery suspense authors I would recommend to Christians. Her writing is absolutely top notch, and that is a rare statement coming from me. In Free Fall, she had me engrossed from page one. Besides the fine writing, her storyline and plot kept me on the edge of my seat, making me want to rush to the end to find out what happens.

I also liked the spiritual elements that the author so skillfully incorporates into the story. One of the sentences in the book had me stop and ponder for several moments in relation to my own life. There are prayers and Bible verses, and a light sprinkling of the supernatural.

The romance bit was good too. You couldn't help but root for them.

A big 5 stars from me. Can't wait to read Nancy Mehl's next book!

Nancy Mehl offers another story in her FBI series (The Quantico Files #3) and this one also features characters we are familiar with profilers Alex Donovan and Logan Hart. This one features a serial killer who suffers from mental illness and involves the attempt to rescue victims. The really intriguing part is the faith of the agents and how they deal with it in their lives and pass their faith onto others in their lives. It was very heartwarming along with the respect they have for others and especially for their loved ones.

Another great story by Nancy Mehl. This grips you from the start and keeps you reading until the end of the book. I always like the villains in Nancy's stories - they are multi-dimensional which makes them interesting and keen to know what they are going to do next. Nancy also throws in a few twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.

I love the faith element of this book and the way you can see the characters developing over the three book arc. The themes of trust continue with the characters tested throughout the book.

Obsession

Another suspense novel by Nancy Mehl. I could not put it down until I finished it. Heroine was brave and risked her life to safe the captured women. Faith played a Hugh factor in this story as Logan was going through a health crisis and could not actively play a part in the rescue.

This was a very interesting last book in this series (at least I’m assuming it’s the last book). Nancy did a great job keeping the reader guessing about who is behind these kidnappings, sort of. I mean, we know who is doing it but the men we meet will make you wonder which one is which and who can we trust.

I enjoyed the story but I don’t agree with Nancy’s theology. I think at least two times she has her characters say that it isn’t God’s will for them to be sick. This is a prosperity gospel mind set. I agree that when God originally created the earth and humans that wasn’t his will but because of sin the Word is clear that we will experience trails. If this isn’t God’s will then he isn’t completely in control but I believe God is sovereign and nothing happens outside of His will. I used to believe the way Nancy does but it lead me to a very bad place with God and I found myself demanding he answer my prayers the way I want and if he didn’t then he wasn’t that good. Yikes, not a good place.

Anyway, I did like the story, it was very engaging and I couldn’t wait to see how it would end.

Free Fall wraps up Nancy Mehl’s best series yet – but it’s so good you won’t want it to end! The Quantico Files are far and away my favorite books by Mehl, and even within the series they kept getting better. The combination of unique crimes, crazy plot twists, and loveable characters make these the perfect books for fans of suspense stories.

Free Fall culminates the trilogy expertly. I don’t see how Mehl could dangle Alex and Logan over any more dangerous scenarios, and yet she employs a wide variety of strategies that keep the stakes rising. I couldn’t put Free Fall down – I read it in a single day! – and couldn’t wait to finish. I love the way that Mehl teaches the reader spiritual lessons through what Alex and Logan face in the story – and for me, these were very applicable.

The only problem with finishing Free Fall is waiting for Mehl’s next book. Write quickly, please.

Nancy Mehl is a master at crafting chilling plots about serial killers and criminals and this plot was intriguing and delivered the expected creepy vibes. I do often struggle to connect with Mehl’s characters and such was the case for this book/series. Alex was hard for me to like and the lack of romance after three books was frustrating. The side plot of Logan’s health struggle was not something I found necessary and I didn’t enjoy it at all. Alex while being strong and self proclaimed capable, definitely had a savior complex and was extremely selfish which was super grating. I found humor in her acting like she was profiling the un-sub and was in control while she was actually locked away after being abducted and facing the same threat as previous targets of this criminal. The faith thread was very strong with strong, it at times didn’t feel very natural, however I appreciated the focus being given to prayer and trusting God. The pacing at the end slowed down immensely and then went on turbo charge in the last few pages of the book. I would have loved to see on the page Alex and Logan’s romance, I also would have loved to get a little more closure to a few of the plot points that were introduced to the characters. The ending was definitely satisfactory, but I can’t say that I was thrilled with exactly how it all wrapped up. The criminal, serial killer aspect keeps me coming back for more Nancy Mehl books, however I am still waiting for that series that just clicks with great characters, chilling plot, and page turning suspense.

Free Fall is the third book in The Quantico Files series by Nancy Mehl. This is a great Christian Suspense story that is filled with action, suspense, mystery and romance. This story contains the same characters and references situations in previous books, so it is good to read them in order. The story grabbed me right from the start and it was hard to put the book down. This was my favorite book in the series. It contains humor to lighten the serious situations that take place. I appreciate the faith and trust in God that the team members have and how easy it is for them to share with others. The theme that stand out for me is that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. I liked how Alex was able to continue working the case after she was abducted and how the other women were so easy to get the information she needed. I struggled with Logan not wanting to bother his family with his current situation.

The author, Nancy Mehl, has woven an intense story that had this reader experiencing a feeling of fear and foreboding. To imagine the feeling of women kidnapped and imprisoned knowing nothing about their captors nor location. Their fear. Their anxiety. Their dread of impending doom.
As police and FBI work together to analyze the criminals, all their skills as Behavioral Analysts are tested and retested. The two main analysts are Logan and Alex who are the main characters in the story. They also have a history from the previous Quantico Files #2 book, Dead Fall, and a developing romantic interest.

The faith of the book's characters, Scriptural references and quotes, and prayer by characters bring a depth of realism that touches deeply the heart of Christian readers.

Free Fall is an exciting, though scary, read and does well as a stand-alone story but is even more enjoyable if the reader has read the previous books Night Fall and Dead Fall. (Click links to read my reviews.)
