Odds-Are-Good #5.5

Dr. Dan in Ketchikan

Rate this book
Legendary among female cruise employees, Dr. Dan Molloy's waiting room is always full on port days. After all, he's the hottest and youngest Doc west of Canada, and rumor has it, he's still single, to boot! Too bad he's so clueless ... no matter how obvious they are in their attempts to woo him, Dr. Dan is all business with patients.

Equally-clueless cruise passenger Ruby Bacon has a freak accident during a lumberjack show that requires five stitches in her - er, um ... kitty. Relentlessly cheerful despite her mishap (and chock full of kooky "fun facts" that she shares at the worst moments), Ruby misses her ship's departure, stranding her in Ketchikan.

Concerned for the safety and comfort of his newest patient (and more than a little intrigued by her offbeat manners!), Dr. Dan offers to accompany Ruby on a two-day ferry ride from Ketchikan to Juneau, where she should be able to catch up with her ship.

But when it comes to travel and love, even the best laid plans can go sideways; and two adorable misfits may discover that they're only at the beginning of a journey towards forever!

4 stars!!! Oh, I loved this one! Loads! Just wished it was a novella as I would’ve loved to have read more about these two characters. Such a great installment in this series. I needed this one to be good after the last felt somewhat flat for me and it was just what I look forward to in these books.

Highly recommend this series for easy to read stories with likable characters.

Can’t wait for the next one!

3.5 stars. A lovely, sweet romance novella set in Alaska from a favourite author of mine. Nicely written, light-hearted with some humour and a bit of drama and sadness. (I've been to that Lumberjack show! LOL). Both Dr Dan and Ruby have social problems and it was unique to read about this different type of couple finding each other. I think I would have loved it way more if it hadn't have been so short, as I think they deserved a more in-depth story. I blinked and it was almost over. I enjoyed it, never the less. 🙂💝

Dr Dan in Ketchikan by Katy Regnery is a novella about two people who were made for each other, but might not know it right away. Both are Quirky (with a capital Q), highly intelligent, socially inept people who are just perfect for each other.

Ruby Bacon is mesmerized with Alaska and the opportunities for hiking and seeing animals, so she takes a cruise up there (several times). However on this particular cruise, her choices were limited and she ends up at a lumberjack display and has a weird accident requiring stitches in a sensitive area. She ends up in Dr. Dan’s waiting room with blood running down her legs. He is able to stitch her up, but in her exhaustion, she misses her cruise boat and is stuck with stitches, paper underwear in Ketchikan, Alaska. Dr Dan helps her out and gets her on a ferry to catch up with her boat and goes with her to make sure she is okay.

The book had some laugh out loud moments and moments of seriously cringeworthy conversations! Personally, I found the whole book delightful and was glad for the happy ending. Dr Dan in Ketchikan by Katy Regnery was a fun quick read.

very PG

This was a sweet, short story about 2 people who struggle with normal life. Both find it hard to fit into society and it was great they found each other.

Short and sweet

Well I lover everything Katy Regnery and this one is no different. Sweet, romantic, and a bit emotional too. As I was reading I realized that my son is very similar to Dr. Dan. A bit of a hermit and with social anxiety. I want to believe that there is a person for everyone and I pray someday my son will find his person whom he belongs to. Highly recommend this short story ♥️

DR. DAN IN KETCHIKAN is a novella that is easy reading & takes place in Alaska. A feel-good kind of story! It is part of the Odds-Are-Good Romance Books. There are 6 & are all Standalone! All by one of my favorite authors Katy Regnery. This isn't a “steamy” story, but one of two lonely “different” people finding each other in a most peculiar way. Fate working at it's finest!

Dr. Dan Molloy is the most popular physician in Ketchikan. He is the best looking & youngest doctor around that part of Alaska. His waiting room is always full of patients needing his help & some woman just seeking him. Him being different and special, just doesn't get it & he is clueless of the real reason these woman are seeking his attention. His professionalism is beyond a doubt. Even so he is lonely & wants to find his person. Even goes so far as to “try” to post an ad in the popular Odds-Are-Good, seeking to find a good woman to keep him company. Before he even can post the ad, the perfect “different” woman has burst into his office with a medical emergency. She had been a tourist at a local lumberjack show and has painful injuries to her “private” parts that will need stitches. She very calmly states in medical terms what parts need the help of the good doctor. With the assistance of his loyal nurse they attend to all of Ruby Bacon's injuries. They could end up being a perfect match, but their time together will be an issue. And it should be quite obvious with her personal injuries, there will be no love making. It is a sweet story with a touch of sad angst. Katy always has a guaranteed HEA!

Sweet romance with two birds of a feather (but a little meh.)

I read the first four ODDS ARE GOOD books and while they were steamy, this one was chaste. For me, that’s not a deal breaker and it makes sense given the personalities of Ruby and Dr. Dan but it was a curveball.

I generally don’t come down hard on book covers but I really hated this cover. Dan would never dress like that. It’s so ugh.

I find a pattern to Katy Regnery Alaskan romances but it’s one I find refreshing. There’s vulnerability expressed by one party (usually the male lead) which is then reciprocated by the other person.

This book involved two super smart people who might be called atypical. Reading a love story between two such personalities was welcome but I would have liked something a bit longer with more elaboration on life together.

This is the third time I’ve tried to type out a review because it keeps glitching!

Ruby is very regimented. She takes her vacation time and spends it on Alaskan cruises. People don’t really get her, but she doesn’t get them either.

When her excursion is switched to a lumberjack show, she sustain an injury that leads her to Dr. Dan.

Dr. Dan is a local doctor, who is handsome, yet oblivious to the women who flirt with him. He takes things literally and doesn’t really get jokes.

When he meets Ruby, he realizes they are very similar, and they decide to spend the next few days together before she gets back on her cruise ship, and then back to her real life.

These two were cute and “got” each other.

Dan and Ruby were two very unique characters, and I think the author did a great job of bringing them to life. This book was funny, sweet and heartwarming. The instalove worked so well because of how unique and special their connection was, and also because of its short length.

This was very PG, which I wasn't necessarily expecting after reading the other books in this series, but I suppose the lack of steamy moments made sense considering the heroine’s injury!

There’s a world where this could have been written as a spicy doctor/patient forbidden romance and I think that would have also been great, but I equally enjoyed the sweetness of this read.

She's back!!!

It always feels so long between KR books! But only because they are so wonderful. I love this so much. Read in one sitting and with a smile on my face. Adore the non NT characters. It's so unusual and yet so well done. My only complaint is that I didn't want to leave the book.
So re-read time of her back list it is
No one NO ONE writes romance and love and emotion like Katy Regnery and that's a hill I'd die on.

I love the idea that there is someone for everyone. I'm not sure it's true, but I loved watching Ruby find her's. I could really relate to both Ruby and Dan's characters, or maybe the lack of what they possessed. I wish I had their smarts, though. I loved that love helped Ruby make decisions that she was afraid to make in a place that she loved and visited often. I really loved seeing characters that have many of my own characteristics find love. It can happen, right?

Sweet short read

A very unique meeting of Ruby's and Dr. Dan. Ruby loves Alaska and visits often but years trip turns out quite differently than previous ones. Both she and Dan are kindred souls that have so much in common. A sweet short story!

This was a sweet, short read. Loved Dr. Dan. Loved that the characters were similar with their quirks. I guess they’re both on the spectrum? The author hinted as such.

No sexy times, just a kiss. But the heroine’s (ahem) injury wouldn’t have allowed it anyway.

It's a sweet story that could have been longer. I feel like I'm somehow respecting Dan and Ruby's relationship being satisfied with what has been given.
