Carl "the war dog" Sebastian is a great character. Turned into a super soldier by circumstances beyond his control. Like most veterans after they win their war his government just wants to sweep soldiers like him under the rug and forget about them. Needing the drugs the government used to make him he has to do jobs for money to buy the drugs he needs. Most of the soldiers like Carl have gone insane or become mercenaries or go on rampages. Carl is captured after being hired to take out a xenomutation. The fight has left him weakened and he is in custody. Offerd working for the government or being locked up for life he chooses to work for the spec op pillaged. This is where the story starts. Fast pace and great action. Hope this series continues for a long time.
A con trick, nothing but a trick to get you to buy more. Just like modern rubbish TV.
Waste of time. Designed to hook you to keep buying more & more. No honest value, where you pay for a complete novel. More like a cheap 1930's weekly, just enough to get to a small sub plot end before revealing the exciting bit... In the next installment. OK if that's your shtick, but be HONEST about it, do not dress it up as a novel, it isn't. Clearly state this is a small section of the complete story that is NOT complete in the book. It's not a great story in any regard but the cheap trick mashes me wish I could give it a negative score.
Mistakes: I skipped entire pages of this book. Still found two mistakes. Listed them on Goodreads.
Plot: Super Soldiers and xenomorphs. Really thought this was going to be an interesting and fun read. It wasn't. The super soldier is more of an idiot feral beast that keeps getting his butt kicked, yet still manages to win fights.
Characters: A super soldier that can't control his emotions isn't super at all. It is a liability to everyone around it. Let's not forget the tendency for ignoring orders, forgetting to use his weapons, and paranoia.
Not the best military sci-fi I’ve ever read, but not the worst either. There was a lot of repeating what was said earlier when the MC’s augmentations were “activating”, and a few spelling errors/word choice mistakes (“discrete” vs “discreet”). Still, overall it wasn’t a bad read, though I would have appreciated more worldbuilding. I have the whole box set, so hopefully I’ll get more in the next books.
Obviously the reader needs to temporarily believe in the technology that created the Gene Soldiers but once you do that it becomes pretty easy to root for our War Dog protagonist. There's very little down time to bore you, other than the parts necessary to lay the groundwork for both his past and present.
Book 1 was a fun read and had some errors throughout. The plot and characters developed well and were likable enough. The plot was a bit predictable and did progress well enough. The characters were well developed and had some exciting things happen to them. I look forward to book 2.
I was pleasantly surprised by this. Fair amount of action. The flashbacks by the MC don't detract from the story like so many others. Looking forward to more in this series.
Great pacing with lots of action, but enough description of the environment to give context. First book finished in one sitting, looking forward to the next.
An all out action packed adventure. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action. From the first page I was immersed in this well imagined universe. I look forward to the next one 😀
I thought the xenomorfs were interesting and so was the war dogs. Liked the book, good amount of action though the author does say “ack” when someone get hit quite a bit. Almost gets annoying.
Had high hopes for this book, it failed to deliver on pretty much everything The characters bare one dimensional, the storyline is a mix of past and present tense that makes little sense and premise is dull and been done to death by so many others
An interesting story, it draws you in, as you meet the various members of the team. It feels like it will be an exciting set of books going forward, I am now looking to download the next book in the series.
A good fast read with an interesting story line. I enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next episode. The main character is unusual but not unrelatable.
First time reading these authors stories, it has the feel of how we are unstoppable when it comes to saving our shipmates, and I am impressed. Thank for sharing your world with us.
A former WarDog soldier, a genetically modified killing machine is trying to stay out of the governments sight, when he is offered a chance to re enlist
This was quite the fun read. We have humans vs aliens, and now we have gene editing being done on both sides. I need to read the next book to see where the author is taking this concept.
