The Edens #2

Juniper Hill

Rate this book
Memphis Ward arrives in Quincy, Montana, on the fifth worst day of her life. She needs a shower. She needs a snack. She needs some sanity. Because moving across the country with her newborn baby is by far the craziest thing she’s ever done.

But maybe it takes a little crazy to build a good life. If putting the past behind her requires a thousand miles and a new town, she’ll do it if it means a better future for her son. Even if it requires setting aside the glamour of her former life. Even if it requires working as a housekeeper at The Eloise Inn and living in an apartment above a garage.

It’s there, on the fifth worst day of her life, that she meets the handsomest man she’s ever laid eyes on. Knox Eden is a beautiful, sinful dream, a chef and her temporary landlord. With his sharp, stubbled jaw and tattooed arms, he’s raw and rugged and everything she’s never had—and never will. Because after the first worst day of her life, Memphis learned a good life requires giving up on her dreams too. And a man like Knox Eden will only ever be a dream.

This book was sooo cute and heartwarming. There are so many elements about this book that I love:
1. Each book in this series follows the Eden family. I feel so invested in this family which is great!
2. Great tropes! Memphis & Knox both work at the hotel together & she's renting a place on his property so we have great forced proximity with them working & living together.
3. I can't state enough how much this book gave me allll the warm fuzzy feelings.
4. It has MYSTERY!! My FAVORITE thing about this series is that book 1 has a murder mystery and this book has a much smaller more subtle mystery but the third act conflict totally caught me off guard and I love that.
5. It has so much depth. Both main characters have tough things they've dealt with, which we don't fully find out about until later in the book. I love slowly unraveling a character's backstory.

The only reason I didn't rate it higher is that I enjoyed book 1 more but excited to keep reading this series.

STOP IT RIGHT NOW YALLL THIS BOOOK 🥺💚 the way it was one of those where nothing INSANE happened and yet it was amazing???? it was so comforting & it felt like home. the small town vibe, the coffee shop, hotel, the cooking, the eden’s & the single mom falling for her landlord? I NEED NOTHING MORE! Knox is a hot tattooed chef, how could I not fall in love? and Memphis was an angel in human form. Devney Perry’s writing is so different than anything i’ve seen before, it feels like a breath of fresh air. YALL KNOW THAT 80% BREAK UP??? MY QUEEN DOESN’T DO THAT, LIKE HELLO? IM OBSESSED 🤠 & the epilogues keep us fed as fck!!!!AHHH SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT ONE 🖤

didnt love this as much as the first book, but only primarily because this wasnt a romantic suspense like ‘indigo ridge’ was, which is what i was expecting.

however, as a romance story alone, this isnt too bad! its actually a pretty perfect
small town, neighbours to lovers plot. with the likable characters, close proximity, and cute setting, everything works together really well.

buuuuut it was just a little too simple, a little too sweet for my personal preferences. i need a little more excitement, which is why i was hoping this would be a romantic suspense story. oh well. still a cute enough book!

"I love you."
"I love you too. Until the end of my days, Memphis. You, me, Drake. We're good, honey. We're so good. And we'll add in a bunch of babies to the mix to keep it interesting."

Ahh that was so good 🥺🥺
Look, it's a GOOD three star rating, but some of the things just fell short- gonna explain.

Of course we get the small town setting and it's fine but for me the main attraction was the grumpy MMC aka Knox. Top tier book boyfriend material 🥺 The man says honey and I melt, swoon, choke, die, etc etc. He can cook, he can communicate, he can take care of your baby if you're a single mom and give you a sexy time as well. Basically the man himself is as sweet as honey and he is the highlight of this book for me. The FMC aka Memphis is a single mom who was likable herself, tho a bit of a crybaby but it's okay, she wasn't annoying, except when she tried to drag her secret.

Memphis and Knox balance each other out perfectly, and have such a mature and healthy communication between them. The chemistry is present. The romance is slow burn, angsty with a pinch of insta lust.

However, this one did feel slower than the first book and I did find myself wishing for a murder mystery aspect. Sadly no one got murdered. Knox's backstory did not feel that impactful to me, sure I was sad and I felt for him but overall- it did not feel impactful. Also the drama at the end felt super rushed to me, I would've preferred if the author would've taken some time on it- at least 6-7 chapters. But all good, I'm not gonna complain too much cause of Knox.

2.25 stars for a book that had a great beginning and got worse and worse the more you read.

I absolutely love single parent books. The trope has always been one of my favorite and I was excited to see how it would play out in this book especially because Knox was very grumpy and quiet.
Spoilers below:
-
-
-
Yet over the course of the book the story got worse and worse because more subplots were added and the story got way too full. I think I finally had enough when the Mafia was mentioned.

How did we get from this fun story about a girl that fled from her super rich family in NY that now worked at a hotel with a grumpy chef that helped her with her baby to a story where the baby gets kidnapped by a strange women that had an affair with the husband of the daughter of a mafia boss?

I'm baffled with the changes and plot twist and not in a good way. I was annoyed. I was fine with Knox's ex showing up even though it did nothing for the story but when her parents came I was already exhausted.

For a 300p book this story has the plot of 7 soap opera movies.

4.5! I love this book. so much. Small town romance, and single parent trope.
That's all you need to know. Go read it. Knox Eden is the most perfect man ever to exist. I will love him forever. And Memphis, my queen, I adore you and your strength so much.

The way Knox took Memphis in and showed her how to be treated with love and sincerity was truthfully so beautiful to read. Knox is hands down a perfect book boyfriend.

Memphis moves into Quincy to start fresh, away from her life and her family that have betrayed her over and over. She finds her way to Juniper Hill. But that also leads her to Knox Eden. The man of her dreams. The man she's needed her entire life. The one who makes her feel seen, who listens to her and holds her up when she's down. Who loves her, for her. Unconditionally and unapologetically. And to top it off, he loves her son too. Just as much as her, as if he were his own.

I love the Eden’s so much. Their family dynamic is so beautiful and it makes you feel so homey when you read about them. I love how the whole family has their own lives but when they are together they are all one big happy family. I envision these books as if it’s a movie. I see the small town and their family homes so vividly it’s as if I’m watching instead of reading.

This series is perfect and THIS BOOK was so perfect I'II never ever get over it. I cried happy tears while reading. So many beautiful quotes.

Devney Perry needed to pick a conflict and stick to it, then use the rest of the book to focus on the romance. the three conflicting side plots completely hijacked the romance which felt so rushed. really 0-100 in the span of a few pages.

"you are… you are a dream"

okay. a lot of thoughts.

he‘s a chef. he has tattoos. he is good with kids. what a dream, honestly. there were a lot of cute scenes, the only thing that bothered me was that he kept calling her honey. i just couldn’t 😭

would i have read it this quick if i didn’t love the first book already? probably not. it was a comforting book, but nothing that gripped my attention. it was cute, yes, but i kind of got bored in between. i love the communication in the book but it kind of was insta love, which is why i didn’t really felt the tension.

This was such a good small town romance with all of the tropes. The heroine is a single mom who moves into the garage apartment of the hero, who is a grumpy chef who works at the hotel the heroine gets a job at. I loved how resilient the heroine was and how hard she was working for a good life for her and her son. But the star of the show was the hero. OH MY GOSH. He showed his love and care through cooking and I was obsessed any time he insisted on cooking for the heroine. I enjoyed how they slowly fell for each other and slowly opened up to each other about their pasts. My heart went out to both of them and I loved how they slowly started to trust each other and allow each other to be there for them. Plus I loved the family aspect of this book and how close knit everyone is. I really enjoyed how this was set at a hotel and I just couldn't put this book down. I'm already impatiently waiting for book three!

'memphis and drake had brought life to my home. laughter and noise that i hadn't even realized i'd wanted.'

no depth at all but did we eat it up? yes

emotional connection? nowhere to be found. he doesn't even know her middle name or her favorite color. knowing her favorite food is mac n cheese is NOTHING! he's a cutie but cmon... his connection with drake was saur cute tho. i love the way he was with him except some unnatural moments lol

memphis tried so hard to be mysterious and then spilling her business the first chance she got made me laugh. don't expect this to be jaw dropping but was it better than the first book? 100%.

I feel like I did not just read the same book that everyone else did 🙂

and what’s worse is that this book really does have the potential to be so great, but it was just kind of…bland? maybe I had extremely high expectations going into it, and that’s why i’m so disappointed? I literally can’t scroll on instagram or tiktok without seeing someone trying to recommend this, so I was really hoping for the best and that is definitely not what I got 😭

I kept finding myself cringing at some of the lines, and also didn’t feel connected to the romance at all. Some of the wild plot lines that happen later on in the story did keep me interested for a bit, but I also just wanted more substance in the story overall.

Another thing is that a character’s inner monologue is also EXTREMELY important to me and when I feel myself getting bored of their thoughts…? yeah that’s when I know it’s a wrap. A mid rating for an unfortunately mid book 🤷🏾‍♀️

Memphis has left the life of luxury and her overbearing family bhind in New York to make a fresh start for herself and her son Drake, where he can run around freely in the wide open spaces and have a dog. She can count on one hand the happiest to worst days of her life, arriving in Quincy, Montana, happened to be number 4 on her list as one of the worst days. She's frazzled and bone tired unable to settle Drake down who was crying up a storm in his car seat.

She ends up in Knox's loft temporarily as she takes a job at the family's Inn as a housekeeper, never trying her hands at this before, a few utube videos later and she feels more confident of what is required of her.

Knox, the owner of Knuckles restaurant didn't want a bar of someone living in his loft, he likes his space and the peace and quiet that affords him..Until Memphis and her baby which cries every night chipping away at a heart that can't bear reminders of his past. But night after night with the sounds of a baby crying on the wind Knox's resolve to stay away and not interfere dissolves as he ends up on the loft's doorstep to help Memphis settle him, holding him close walking the hallway with him held against his heart seemed to calm them both down.

Memphis and Knox were just perfect together, add in a wee baby in the mix was perfection.

I love this world Devney has created, I can almost picture this quaint family owned establishment, with its picturesque landscape and the close knit family bringing with it those small town feels.

Let me make this clear. You are mine. Drake is mine. For all of your todays and each of your tomorrows. Mine.

3.5 stars

this actually exceeded my very low expectations. i will admit this was a lot better than the first book. i initially rated the first book 3 stars but would change that to 2 and mara rated it 2 stars lmfao, so you can imagine we thought we would hate this…but we surprisingly didn’t!

this was honestly such a short read, yes i did find many issues with this book but i am trying to be the embodiment of live laugh love on here <33.

memphis was kinda boring and attempted to be mysterious but was also an open book. the self doubt she had in being a mother does hurt a lot to see in books, but tbh she had a backbone and for that slow clap.

knox…he was honestly such a man. the way mara and i were kinda eating up everything he said. the bar is very well in hell but hey this was such a short easy read, why should i complain!!

actually i lied i am going to complain sorry. this was incredibly insta-lovey. i felt no connection whatsoever. like i genuinely felt like these two people did not know each other. i don’t know if it’s dp’s writing but i felt absolutely nothing. most of the time i complain when a book is purely physical and i wouldn’t say this was that but i don’t think we got any emotional conversations from either of them.

atp it was just vibes and although i did eat up everything knox said and i can say i enjoyed this, i wouldn’t necessarily recommend this if you’re looking for something amazing but if you want something short and cute i def would!!

♾/5 YOU GUYS I AM IN LOVE!!! This was such a comforting read, that I could not put down. I absolutely adored the whole premise of this book.

Knox and Memphis have my heart. They were such a pure and amazing couple. I loved their communication and the way Knox treated Memphis and Drake. My standards are through the roof now because of Knox Eden. I wish men like him existed in real life. 😫

This book was EVERYTHING and more! I will now be having Juniper Hill withdrawals because it was such an amazing book.

I'm so glad that I purchased this book. I've seen it being recommended all over Tiktok and HAD to read it. All my favourite tropes:
- Grumpy/Sunshine
- Single Parent
- Small Town romance
Every time Memphis was struggling, it sent a pang to my chest. I really felt for her through this book. So glad she got her HEA.
Ugh, Knox is probably one of my favourite MCs. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
Highly recommend this book!

Devney's writing is still great. We did slow down with this book though, in comparison to Indigo Ridge.

Here are the answer to some popular questions: I think this was way less spicy than indigo ridge, (with way less sex scenes) even though the scenes we did get were just as cute. No, you don't need to read Indigo Ridge to enjoy this book, they can both be read as stand-alones.

If you are into single-mother, small town romance, this one might be for you.

I once again took advantage of the most incredible audible narration of the century, Juniper Hill was no different than Indigo Ridge. Jason Clark did a fantastic job for both books, if you are an audible person, I 100% recommend both of these books on it. We get double POV's and the male and female narrators used for these have rocked my world. I believe my review of these books are slightly biased because of how much I enjoyed the quality of the narration.

This story was very cute, romantic and well written. I just personally did not vibe with everything, maybe it was the single-mom aspect? I am not sure. Knox was very sweet, over protective and I did swoon at multiple of his lines, but you know me, a book with police investigation will always be superior. That's why Indigo Ridge is still my favorite.

Slow-paced, but romantic and overall enjoyable. I am just not as impressed as I was by Indigo.

“Passion comes from the mess, Memphis.”

Juniper Hill is the second book in Deveny Perry’s small town romance series ‘The Edens’. After being teased with this couple in ‘Indigo Ridge’, I was so excited to get to Knox and Memphis’ story.

Knox runs the kitchen in his family’s hotel and now has a new neighbor, well two. Memphis moves across the country to work at said hotel and she lives in the apartment above Knox’s house with her infant son, Drake. Memphis and Knox don’t start out on the best food. He’s a bit of a grumpy hero… but soon enough, Memphis and Drake win him over.

I loved getting both Memphis and Knox’s backstory and watching them fall in love. This was a sweet and heartwarming romance but it also had a touch of suspense. I’m looking forward to continuing on with this series! I’m enjoying reading about the Eden siblings.

3.75⭐️ Don’t get me wrong I did enjoy this book especially the end part and the epilogue (honestly one of the best extended epilogues I’ve read), I didn’t hate the main characters but they weren’t anything special but side character were amazing! I loved Knox’s family and how they were towards Memphis.

One thing I really didn’t like was the time jumps, like when something really interesting was gonna happen they would jump to the next week, month or day and instead of showing you what happened they would tell you what happened in 2 sentences.

Overall it was a relatively quick read, with some really sweet moments but nothing STAND OUT amazing. I would recommend this book, but I’d recommend it as a book you’d read, enjoy but never think about again.

reread #1: drowning in a puddle of tears this will always be the best edens book fight me ❤️

“The third what?”
“The third-best day.” A magnificent smile stretched across his face.
“Like I said, honey. I’ll take them all.” stood on my toes, stretching for his lips. “Promise?”
“I swear it.”

you know when you finish a book and you just feel empty because it was that good well lucky for me that's the case here :)
after being disappointed with Indigo ridge I started this with very low expectations but Deveney Perry really said I'm going to give you single parent excellence and SHE DID PEOPLE.

I literally binge read this series in one day and I hate myself for finishing so fast because all I want to do now is to reread and devour this book again okay😭

memphsisknox were perfect, okay I would not change a single thing about them at all. Knox has officially made his way to my top 5 book bfs, he's literally everything you want in a man, when I first read the synopsis you lost me at "chef" I was already planning the wedding HELLO????

➣You said cooking is his love language?

“I cook for you because it’s how I show someone I care. I cook for you because I love the look on your face after that first bite. I cook for you because I’d rather cook for you than anyone else.”

It's simple I died.

➣ he takes care of her son when she's stressed and calls him “boss” ?
“Go lie down. I’ll walk him until he’s asleep.”
“You don’t-”
“Have to do that.” I finished her sentence. “But I’m going to. Go. Rest.”
"I just saw Drake. My tiny boss”

MY OVARIES OML-

➣he said this which made me lose more hope in real men
“You are . . . you are a dream,” he breathed. “I gave up on those”

“This is new. We’ll take a little time. Get used to each other. But I’m not the kind of man who gives up what’s good. And we’re good. We’re fucking good, honey.”
“What happened, honey?”
“You deserve-”
“You.”
“I was going to say better.”
“No. I deserve you. Because I want you. And damn it, I earned you. All the shit I went through. The hell you endured. Who fucking cares if it’s messy?”

you guessed it. I am rolling in my grave and officially lost faith in real men

usually in books like this I hate the fmc but Memphsis IS DIFFERENT OKAY (not that kind of different) she is the definition of an amazing mom and I just adored her love for drake. everything she did for him ☹️🫶

I really wished this could have been longer and even though I hate fast paced books memphisknox will always have a special place in my heart <3
the ending was a bit overdramatic but were not going to talk about it lol

“What?”
“The house is a mess.”
Her eyes softened. “Our mess.”💘💗💞💓

So… If anyone could tell me where I can find a Knox for myself I’ll be on my way. Thanks

The bearded Knox who told her to try harder when she was trying not to bother him too much.

The tattooed Knox who grunted and barely talked in her presence.

The big muscles Knox who looked at baby Drake with a pained expression.

But also the sweet Knox who cooked mac n cheese from scratch for her and fed her daily.

Yes, I want them all for myself. 🤓

Buuut… I felt the relationship was rushed, it wouldn’t have hurt to read about building the relationship in the span of a few more months to be completely honest.

I guess the family made up for it and now I want to read about the rest of them ♥️

ME ENCANTÓ!!!
