Something about her patient tugged at Ayesha's heart. After all, it was a rare man who could retain not just his composure, but also his wit in the face of certain death.

Security expert Nikhil is in mortal danger. Gravely injured and unable to see, he is in the midst of hostile strangers in an unknown place.

Any hope of survival is fast fading away. Ayesha had to do something even if helping Nikhil might mean sharing his fate. ________________________________________________

I am glad I bumped into this novel. A very novel story. Nothing compared to the ones I have read so far. The story begins with a bang with fair bit of suspense. The curiosity bound me to the book as I turned page after page. After reading few initial chapters I decided to check author’s profile hoping to learn her background. An IT professional coming up with a spy thriller surprised me because the descriptions of characters, the modus operandi of terrorists and minute details surrounding the characters were so lucid. And to add to an excellent plot was the writing style, which was smooth and flowing sans the undue extravagance we see in some of the books these days. Another aspect I loved in this book was the gaps left by the author strategically at various stages of the story only to be revealed later making the story complete and convincing.

On the flip side, I felt the last few chapters weren’t required or could have been shrunken. From the high point of the rescue of Ayesha/Ziya, I felt the story took a downhill. But the last few chapters also displayed the skill of the author in out-and-out romantic genre. Also, I felt the rescue of Ayesha could have been more dramatic with lot more action from the protagonists.

I started reading Ruchi’s blog during A to Z April 2014 Challenge where she wrote Flash Fiction based on life’s philosophy or mood or emotions, interpreted using colours. And was I impressed? Every day of the week, I actually looked forward to read her stories. Yes, they were that amazing! Then when she wrote her debut novel, Take 2, I became her fan. After that I read Jugnu and Hearts & Hots and enjoyed them too. Last week, I read her new book, Guardian Angel which is Book #2 in the Undercover series.
I love books that completely engulf me in the story and Guardian Angel is one such book. It’s a page turner and totally un-putdownable. There’s drama, action, thrill, suspense and romance that’s oh! so beautiful. The characterization is vivid and realistic and the story is fast paced with twists and turns that keeps the adrenaline rushing.
Though this is the second book in the Undercover Series, this book can be read as a standalone. I have not read the first book in the series, The Bodyguard but it’s on my TBR and I will be picking it up soon.
Guardian Angel is highly recommended if you are looking for a romantic thriller.

FIRST IMPRESSION:

I have already had the chance to read Bodyguard, the first book in the series, and loved the descriptive narrative and strong characters. I remember reading the book at a stretch, owing to the captivating narrative that never let me pause or go to some other book. Having also read a few other works of Ruchi Singh before, (including a full length novel and a short story) I was very clearly aware of what to expect in this book.

In particular, the summary inrigued me because it focused on someone who was (spoiler alert) supposed to be dead in book 1. And since he was a favourite character of mine, I could not miss this opportunity to read Guardian Angels. The summary works because it says so much in so few words. For people who have read the first book, these few words are enough to make them want to sit up and take notice. The book cover did not reveal much and just gave a visual to imagine what the characters would look like.

REVIEW:

We have all read books that are part of a series, and we have all picked our favourites that are not exactly the lead characters. But have you ever read a book in which you thoroughly loved a character who is not the lead but is equally important, and wished there was more written about him? This was something similar to what I felt with the first book in this series, 'Bodyguard', where I loved the character Nikhil Mahajan - one of the bodyguards of the lead character, Vikram Seth. He was written in such a way that he immediately captured my mind, and become a character who impressed me in the way he was written.

So it was with great interest that I began to read this book, which promised to be one focusing on this character. And I shall begin the review by saying that this book does not disappoint. It is entirely focusing on the dashing Nikhil Mahajan who was thought to be dead but is being nursed back to health by a woman who is apparently a part of the gang of the people who had kidnapped him. Physically weak, Nikhil continues trying to find out more about his predicament from the lovely yet mysterious Ayesha, who is reticent to tell him anything. She is his Guardian Angel, but he wants to know more about why he is where he is.

Ayesha has more to her than what meets the eye and her motives are as much a matter of doubt as her original identity. The suspense is what keeps the reader turning the pages, and there is a lot to read and follow in the story. The plot is taut, and does not lag in any place. It keeps the interest alive by being an absolute page turner. The thrill of capture and that of escape, not to mention the chase between what to believe and whom to trust, keep the book a thoroughly engaging read. For fans of the previous book, Bodyguard, this book is like returning to the lives of one particular character with a microscope, analysing his life. For people who are reading this book first, it works as a standalone and has basic character background information. But it also is written in such a way that the reader would want to go to book 1 and read more, only to understand why Nikhil Mahajan deserves his own book.

I personally loved two major things in this book - the pace that never slackened, and the narrative that was clean and devoid of drama. As usual, the high of the thrill ends a few pages before the End Card but this also leaves some pages for a neat wrap up of loose ends that the reader really craves. A high octane thriller also needs closure to help satiate the reader's curiosity or risk ending in a cliffhanger that does not tell more about what comes next. In that regard, Guardian Angels has an interesting narrative and a nice wrap-up.

Overall an interesting read, a book full of twists and turns that keeps the adrenaline rushing but also does not compromise on the other elements that keep it wholesome.

VERDICT:

A must read for fans of Bodyguard (the previous book in the series) and even works as a standalone.

RATING: 4/5

Ruchi's books are always pageturners and this one is no different.
I had loved Nikhil in Bodyguard and was quite heartbroken with how his story had ended there.

I read and absolutely loved the first book in Undercover series, The Bodyguard and was eager to read Nikhil Mahajan's story. Nikhil is the friend and security in-charge of famous Industrialist, Vikram Seth Jr. During one of his meetings with an informant, he is caught in a bomb blast and captured by unknown people. Injured, disoriented and blindfolded, he wakes up in an unknown place with no way out. Taken care of by a woman who refuses to give away anything, he is truly caught. But then his mysterious nurse takes upon herself to get him to safety amidst the real danger of getting caught by terrorists who don't differentiate between friend and foe; and a terrain that is harsh and as unforgiving as the people they are fleeing.

I loved the thrill, the overall feel of impending danger and the engaging storytelling of this book. The world building is expertly done and you can easily visualize the surroundings, the terrain and the general aura of the places. The contrast among the different places is so beautifully done that the readers will appreciate the safety and the peace of areas that are away from the terror-ridden areas.

I had been intrigued and impressed by Nikhil's character in the first book and this book had me bowled over completely. I loved him so much. He is everything honorable, strong, responsible and loyal.

Same goes for the heroine whose character is awe inspiring. She shows that where there is a will there is a way. Despite being under the thumb of her family, she risks everything to save a man she thinks doesn't deserve the heartless end that is being planned for him.

The major part of the book is devoted to the danger of being captured and then the rescue. Only in the later part does the protagonists give voice to their true feelings for each other which should have been a letdown but surprisingly didn't trouble me much.

I sat at the edge of my seat throughout, totally invested in the story and praying hard for their safety. Every scene seems so real that I had goosebumps reading the story!

I enjoyed everything about this crisply and fluidly written book with only a small complaint that more page space should have been given to developing the after-danger romance of the protagonists. I was left feeling a little dissatisfied. Can't disclose everything but I wanted to see the first meeting of the heroine with the hero's family, his friends and the stable HEA that satisfied my hopelessly romantic heart.

Anyway, all in all, Guardian Angel is another great book by Ruchi Singh that will keep you engaged and living each scene of the story. Had the ending been more satisfactory I would have definitely given this book full on blazing 5 stars but for now it is 4 super shiny stars out of 5 to it from my side and Njkinny recommends Guardian Angel to all romantic suspense lovers.

*I technically read an ARC copy of this book last year, and only re-read a little now, to refresh my memory to write this review, but I am counting this book in this year, because I did not in 2018.*

Guardian Angel is Book #2 in the Undercover series, the first one being The Bodyguard, which is another fast paced thriller that will keep you hooked right from the beginning till the very end. And this second book is a companion novel to the first one. Though I have to say that both the stories are complete on their own, and can be read as standalones.

But if you like the genre of romantic suspense/thriller, I'd say read them both, starting with The Bodyguard. Because for one, you will now have two great books to read instead of one, and more importantly once you read The Bodyguard, and get to know (and love) Nikhil, you cannot NOT read this book which revolves around his story.

Because as much as I loved The Bodyguard, to be completely honest, I fell in love with Nikhil's character more, even though he wasn't exactly the main protagonist there. And I was heartbroken over how his story ended there.

So when I got to read an ARC copy of this book, I was over the moon. Especially because this book, and Nikhil's story, made up for all of the heartache, and more! From well-etched characters to a fast paced plot; from suspense to action to romance - this book has it all.

My one grouse is that while the thriller aspect wrapped up really well, the romantic conclusion seemed a little rushed towards the end. But then maybe that's just me, because I always want more romance, and in this book I could've read another 50 pages worth of it. More so because I loved Nikhil & Ayesha together, and the build up to their romance was just that good.

Nonetheless, this is still a good read that I definitely recommend to fans of this genre.

All in all: A fast paced romantic thriller set in Kashmir that will keep you hooked from beginning to end!

Security Officer Nikhil Mahajan was at the wrong place at the wrong time. When a bomb blast gives the miscreants the opportunity to abduct him, Nikhil is left at the mercy of a group of people who have no mercy. Ayesha is given the duty of nursing a man back to health so that he can be tortured and interrogated. With Rehaan and Khala keeping a close eye on her, all the while planning her wedding, Ayesha has no choice but to nurse the stranger in her basement. What turns do their journeys take? And does fate have other plans for them?

At 130 odd pages, Guardian Angel is a quick read. Once I had the opportunity, I finished this book in one sitting. The book is more of an adventure than anything else. On one hand we have Nikhil, who is injured and captured. On the other hand, we have Ayesha who has a wedding coming up and the duty of caring for a complete stranger. The story concentrates on their adventure as they try to navigate the hand that they have been dealt. I like the fact that the author hasn’t tried to force a romance from the beginning. The first part of the story helps build the core of the characters that we are being told about. There’s action and drama that helps build up a reader’s interest in the book. Romance comes in second and entertains the readers further in a different way. For once, I did like the fact that the girl takes some initiative as well. The author has kept the romance light and sexy.

I loved the character of Ayesha. She is a girl who knows what she wants and ready to do what it takes to get what she wants. She is a character that I liked because of all that she represents – she is brave, smart and sexy. I wish that there was more action in the book that involved her. From all that we know about her in the book, it would have just been like a cherry on the cake if she had a bit more action part in the book. This is probably the only point where I can nitpick about the book.

Though this is the second book in the Undercover Series, this book can be read as a standalone. I have not read the first book, The Bodyguard, and though there are some mentions of characters from the first book, the author has provided enough information to satisfy the readers. In fact, she has gone ahead and made me feel so curious about one particular character that it makes me want to pick up The Bodyguard.

All in all, the book offers interesting characters, drama, action and romance – everything a romantic suspense should be.

I was waiting for this book right from the time I had read The bodyguard by the author. The author has a flair to combine romance n thrill in the right proportion to make the story an enchanting and unputdownable read.

To add to the excitement was the fact that a very beloved character Nikhil Mahajan from the author's earlier work is a protagonist in this one.

This story is pacy and a correct mix of so many flavours, like patriotism, love, adventure, suspense and thrill.

So go ahead and read this one....you will enjoy it.

If bodyguard was unputdownable then guardian angel is way beyond unputdownable. I was actually sad when the character Nikhil was killed in the bodyguard. But little did I know that he will return as the protagonist in guardian angel with a bang.

As usual, Ruchi Singh has created a beautiful and well-written masterpiece. Use of simple language, well-described characters, and the suspenseful story plot is just mind-blowing.

Guardian angel is definitely a must read by one and all.

I had read The Bodyguard by Ruchi Singh, her first book in the Undercover Series, and loved it. Obviously then I was excited at the idea of Book 2.

Nikhil, one of the characters, in Book 1 takes centre stage here. If you’re a succour for romance you’ll fall in love with this endearing man, his courage and his humour. Then there’s Ayesha, who like most other Ruchi Singh’s heroines is my favourite kind of female protagonist - strong and brave yet gentle and sweet.

The story begins with Nikhil's abduction. He is brought to the valley under a mistaken identity with no hope of escape until Ayesha comes to his rescue. What follows is an adventure-packed tale that winds its way through the terror ravaged Kashmir Valley, to the power centres in Delhi.

I enjoyed the pace of the book as also the very real descriptions of Kashmir. If I was looking for a complaint, it would be that the high-point of the book came much before it ended and the romance towards the end seemed like an epilogue.

That said, it still makes for a great read. Also, though, technically this one is a sequel, both books can be read as stand alones.

I received an advance copy of the book from the author for review.

Guardian Angel is a brilliant thriller set in Kashmir in which both the principal characters are in deep trouble. This sets the tone for a nail-biting story. There is no let up in the suspense and the book kept me hooked till the last page. I liked the ending immensely!

In line with the earlier works of the author, this novel too has vividly sketched out characters which jump out of the pages and stick in your mind long after the story has ended. The pace is brisk and the suspense unrelenting.

Thankfully Nikhil has not lost any of his charm from the previous work 'The Bodyguard'. The author had masterfully woven this side story with Nikhil which makes this an outstanding standalone read as well.

The romance is cleverly woven into the narrative and will not let down the readers of the genre who look for an intelligent and thrilling setting for a romantic story. A must read!

Guardian Angel authored by Ruchi Singh is a book with several twists and thrill essense.

The storyline revolves around Nikhil and Ayesha. Nikhil is a guy who had recently faced a dreadful bomb blast. Fortunately, he survived the bomb blast, but he had to face the after consequences. He's severely burnt and been held captive by the antagonist Rehaan.

Rehaan trapped Nikhil and he keeps him in his house's basement . Nikhil isn't aware of where he's presently.
Now, here's the twist in the storyline. Nikhil come across a young and decent girl named Ayesha.

Ayesha is depoited as the care taker to Nikhil by Rehaan. Ayesha takes care of Nikhil's cuts. She serves him meals and also provide him medicines on time but. Rehaan is such a villian that he warns her not to speak a single word to Nikhil.

Gradually, Ayesha gains sympathetic behaviour towards Nikhil and she decides to help Nikhil escape the daily torture.

What happens next? Will Nikhil ever be able to escape the torture? What about Ayesha? How will she help Nikhil? Unlock these suspense by diving deep into the thriller plot.

I'm so overwhelmed to read this book. The author must be praised of scribbling emotions such as love, revenge and friendship within the storyline.

Thank You.
Happy Reading 📚

I loved this book the most from the undercover series. I was quite disappointed by the way Nikhil's character was ended in the bomb blast in the first book of this series. Guardian Angel not only brought Nikhil's story after the deadly bomb blast but it was narrated in such a way that I simply could not stop reading until the end. But Ayesha's character was truly a surprise for me. I loved how the author penned Ayesha's character of determination, sacrifice, and goal with Nikhil's vulnerable yet courageous character in the midst of danger, betrayal, torture and terrorism. A fast paced thriller you wouldn't stop until you read the end of the book.

I’m in love with the protagonists Ayesha and Nikhil. The author has also portrayed the villain in an amazing way, you get the negative vibes from him. Well, the story is all about Nikhil surviving a bomb blast and when he wakes up, he is oblivion and finds himself kidnapped by a guy named Rehaan. He is unaware of the reason why Rehaan has chosen him. Whereas Ayesha a beautiful, kind girl is appointed to take care of Nikhil. As the days passed Ayesha forms a sympathetic bond with Nikhil realising the feelings are mutual. You’re gonna find a lot of mystery but I wont be verbose and let you enjoy the book. It was a beautiful overall beautiful experience reading this book. Kind of giving Bollywood vibes . Happy reading.

The storyline of the book is about Nikhil, who have survived a dreadful bomb blast but is severely burnt and has been held captive by a guy named Rehaan. He keeps Nikhil in the basement of his house. Nikhil doesn't know where he is and who has kidnapped him for umpteen days. There he comes across with a sweet and delicate girl named Ayesha. Ayesha is instructed by Rehaan to take care of Nikhil, from treating his wounds to serving him meals and providing him medicines on time but is warned not to speak anything in front of him. After a few days, Ayesha feels sympathetic and decides to help Nikhil escape the everyday torture leaving Nikhil surmised by why Ayesha helped him run away even if she was with the kidnappers.

Totally in love with the book! The plot comprised of love, revenge, friendship and determination which had me hooked till the end. The story development was excellent and especially adored Ayesha's character. Would urge everyone to go through the book. You won't be disappointed.

Would rate the book 5 out of 5

As always I loved the taut plot that doesn't give you a chance to stop and think. All that one wants to do is flip one page after the other. I loved how Nikhil has not lost his instincts even in his dire situation and jumps back immediately after his recovery. And Ayesha is a fitting match for him. But yes it got over too soon. I was left pining for more

Ruchi Singh’s Guardian Angel is a racy page-turner that’s hard to put down until the last word. Nikhil and Ayesha’s tryst with terrorists is real and frightening. The attraction between them simmers, the plot thickens and twists to a nerve racking end. Suspence and romance - a winning combination!

Loved the story as much as part 1

Never thought the part 2 would be as interesting, intriguing and suspense as the first one.
Little bit dragged like a Bollywood movie after the whole suspense was over. But still loved how the story ended on a beautiful note.

I am happy that Nikhil was alive and he was the protagonist of this book. When I read The Body Guard I really felt broken when Nikhil was killed. But I am happy to see him back now.

But he is still in Danger. Then an Angel tries to save him and protect him. To know who the Angel is and why she came to protect Nikhil you must read the book. Ruchi Singh Potrayed very beautifully mainly about the characters. The story is full of suspense and loved reading it.

I really loved the book cover and it's like a treat for eyes. The language is simple and everyone can understand easily.

I don't mind admitting that I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I didn't really know what to expect going in, but I was engrossed within minutes of picking the book up and I polished it off pretty quickly. I always enjoy a good un-put-downable read and this one certainly fell into that category.

The characters in this book and the story as it progresses soon drag you quickly along. I believe that Nikhil has been introduced in a previous book, The Bodyguard, but unfortunately, I haven't had the pleasure of reading that as yet. We meet him in this book in mortal danger. He has been injured in a bomb blast and now finds himself blind and bandaged. He has no idea where he is or what has happened to him to end up there.

His only assistance is from the young woman who tends to his wounds each day and patiently feeds hi via a straw. She won't talk to him and when he hears her speak it is in a language that he doesn't understand.

I really don't want to give too much away about this book and what is going on. I'd hate to give away any spoilers as there are twists and turns in the plot of this book that I didn't spot coming. Needless to say, if you are looking for an exciting and thrilling read with a good dose of romance thrown in for good measure, then I would highly recommend this one. Give it a read, I don't think that you will be disappointed.

* Survival Plot
* Intriguing Narration
* Beholden Romance
- Too detailed events

He was supposed to be dead, as was in a bomb blast in Mumbai, who woke in Kashmir, in unknown surroundings and incidents happening around him with one clarity, he is alive and need to get to Mumbai to his friend Vikram. Nikhil Mahajan, a security expert to Vikramaditya found himself in PoK. During his capture and recovery, He felt her first, got attracted at instant and when he saw her risk for his escape, he fell in love with her bravery. Will he be able to leave her here? Yeah, he did, when the picture is not just kidnapping but a bigger one.

She knew her patient in the basement is different from who her brother used to bring. She tended him with care and her only motive, after her hearing him, was to help him leave. She took all her measures to help him but little did she know he was stubborn and hard headed. She is too young to make decisions she made or the actions she took for his escape made sure he knows nothing of her. Ayesha, a traditional Muslim family girl, who knew nothing about love (but with more secrets than you can imagine) found herself in middle of things, along with her attraction to him, that happened outside her assignment. (No spoilers here, but you heard me right)
Amidst all secrets and events, will they both find each other again and get a HEA, is for you to find out. Because I know what happened!

Special Mention:
Nikhil is Hotness Personified with interesting character. Now, my curiosity on Karan, needs food 🙃!

"Guardian Angel" by Ruchi Singh is one of those heartfelt tension books that pulls you in right all along. The story rotates around Nikhil and Ayesha.

Nikhil is the companion and security responsible for renowned Industrialist, Vikram Seth Jr. During one of his gatherings with a source, he is trapped in a bomb impact and caught by obscure individuals. Whenever a bomb impact offers the lowlifes the chance to snatch him, Nikhil is a no left helpless before a gathering kindness.

Harmed, bewildered and blindfolded, he awakens in an obscure spot with no chance to get out. Ayesha is given the obligation of nursing a man back to wellbeing so he can be tormented and grilled. With Rehaan and Khala watching out for her, meanwhile arranging her wedding, Ayesha must choose the option to nurture the outsider in her cellar. What turns do their processes take? Furthermore, does destiny have different designs for them?

The writer has made a wonderful and elegantly composed show-stopper. Utilization of straightforward language, very much depicted characters, and the intense story plot is simply marvelous. The plot involved love, retribution, kinship and assurance which had me snared till the end. The story improvement was incredible and particularly loved Ayesha's personality.

Ayesha's blend of sympathy and boldness makes you pull for her as she assumes the errand of aiding the harmed security master, Nikhil. The chemistry between them is electric, adding a sweet touch to the high-stakes circumstances they think of themselves as in.

I partook in the speed of the book as likewise the genuine depictions of Kashmir. Assuming I was searching for a grievance, it would be that the high-point of the book came much before it finished and the sentiment towards the end appeared to be an epilog.

In general, it actually makes for an extraordinary read. Highly recommended!
