To Love Jason Thorn

Rate this book
Jason Thorn… My brother’s childhood friend.

Oh, how stupidly in love with that boy I was. He was the first boy that made me blush, my first official crush. Sounds beautiful so far, right? That excitement that bubbles up inside you, those famous butterflies you feel for the very first time—he was the reason for them all. But, you only get to live in that fairytale world until they crush your hopes and dreams and then stomp on your heart for good measure. And boy did he crush my little heart into pieces.

After the stomping part he became the boy I did my best to stay away from—and let me tell you, it was pretty hard to do when he slept in the room right across from mine.
When tragedy struck his family and they moved away, I was ready to forget he ever existed.

Now he is a movie star, the one who makes women of all ages go into a screaming frenzy, the one who makes everyone swoon with that dimpled smile of his. Do you think that’s dreamy? I certainly don’t think so. How about me coming face to face with him? Nope still not dreamy. Not when I can’t even manage to look him in the eye.

Me? I’m Olive, a new writer. Actually, I’m THE writer of the book that inspired the movie he is about to star in on the big screen. As of late, I am also referred to as the oh-so-very-lucky girl who is about to become the wife of Jason Thorn.
Maybe you’re thinking yet again that this is all so dreamy? Nope, nothing dreamy going on here. Not even close.

To Love Jason Thorn is a full-length standalone, which also contains some pretty hot and descriptive sex scenes. *winks*

Writing has become my world and I can’t imagine myself doing anything other than giving life to new characters and new stories. You know how some things simply makes your heart burst with happiness? A really good book, a puppy, hugging someone you’ve been missing like crazy? That’s what writing does to me. And all the hard work, all the sleepless nights, all the anxiety…everything is worth it at the end. And I'm hoping that reading my books will leave you with that same happy feeling.

I'm pretty sure there's a cute story in here, but I'm unwilling to put up with the extremely poor writing to find out for sure. The writing is very simplistic and the dialogue is stilted and awkward. I just can't.

ALSO -- Pet peeve: Look, if you're going to do a portion of your book with a first-person POV of a child, either commit to it or change it so that it's the narrator reminiscing about her childhood & telling the scenes as such. Don't give me some cutsey "I'm a 6-year old!" voice telling the story, but then have that same kid use words like 'epitome' and 'audacity'. Make up your damn mind as to how you're writing this.

listen, I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. I thought it was gonna be cute but damn it was much more than that. I adored Olive, she was hilarious and her friendship with Lucy was everything. Jason was amazing & his spice took
me by SURPRISE 🥵🥵 I loved the plot of the book, it was lighthearted and funny as well. Some parts were a little bit too cheesy for me, and I did have an issue with some of the scenes (specifically the drunk scene, his sleeping scene & those friends at the end) but overall I really enjoyed it. the way it ended where it all started really got me; and the epilogue was adorable. cant wait to read Lucy’s story <3

”My world is a less scary place with you in it, baby. I will kiss you a thousand times every day if that’s what it takes to keep you in love with me for the rest of our days”

im just gonna sit here and contemplate all my life choices and how i ended up in this exact moment. someone please tell me what the fuck i just read

i was bored. i was detached. i seriously just felt so fucking empty inside that i think i lost my soul somewhere along the journey of reading this book ;-;

if anyone ever recommends me another ”brother’s best friend” trope book i will scream. this trope is now one of my least favourite tropes because its always the girl being a love sick puppy and the guy seeing her as ”just a kid” like cut the bullshit. im sick of it.

like the way he called her ”little one” was really not it. it kept reminding me of a little girl and i really dont want to be reading about a fucking case thank you very much

every single character was fucking annoying. i hated them all. they were all so fucking annoying like one more word out of any of them and i might’ve just entered hell myself gosh

PLOT ˎˊ˗
a girl, olive taylor fell in love with her brother’s best friend, jason thorn. she loved him when she was 7… yeah. n e ways, fast forward like a bunch of years, she’s now 22 and he’s 26. he’s a hotshot movie star and she’s a newly famous author. he ends up being casted a role for her book adaptation thing balh blah. he gets into a bunch of scandals that lead to him having to marry someone. surprise surprise, who does he marry? yes, olive, his liTtlE oNe. they fall in love. the end.

ella maise seems to be into fake marriages which i would usually like but this was done so fucking badly. i really didnt like their relationship and found it hella cringe. i feel like every ”brother’s best friend, best friend’s little sister” trope is always so icky and makes me want to puke

i dont hate books where the girl likes the guy first but this was just way too over the top. she was basically obsessed with him and constantly saying how much she loves him and kept throwing herself at jason like… please stop embarrassing yourself.

the plot got really messy and like random things kept happening?? idk if that was to make the story more interesting… but i assure you, it did not work.

ROMANCE + SMUT ˎˊ˗
the smut was cringe. ofc since she’s an author he was like ”dO yoU liKe iT whEn i tAlk diRty tO yoU” like no?? i prefer you to just not fuck her at all lol

his possessiveness really wasnt a good look. his possessiveness was just really cringe and was so annoying lol. honestly their relationship felt like he was a her babysitter ummm… thats tuff

i didnt enjoy the smut or.. anything to do with them if im being honest lol. there was just no connection or chemistry so it felt like a shallow relationship…

CHARACTERS ˎˊ˗

olive taylor :
⤷ basically a kid in an adult body

i cannot with her. she’s immature, annoying and just so damn love obsessive. it was gross and i kept getting second hand embarrassment from her actions

she also has a really shit pick of friends?? first, one of her best friends goes and sleeps with her ex boyfriend, marcus, while theyre dating??? and then plays victim saying ”she just couldnt help falling in love with her best friend’s boyfriend” like bitch?? shut the fuck up.

then her other friend, lily SPIKES her husband’s drink?? like… what is wrong with your friends olive?? i was so fucking done with all of them and she didnt even confront them?? well she kind of did but it was so underwhelming ummmm

olive herself was just damn annoying and had a mind of a little kid. i wish she was just a bit more mature cause like… it seriously felt like jason was her babysitter and now ”the love of her life”

jason thorn :
⤷ uhhh he has a big dick ig??

i dont like him. didnt like him AT ALL. he did such weird things like this one time he made her take off her shirt IN PUBLIC to make sure she was ”ok” like what the fuck…

then, there were press photos of that event happening but luckily they didn’t get her half naked BUT STILL?? who fucking does that.

he was also implying that she should and shouldnt wear certain things?? and the possessiveness really is not it. i can stand possessiveness to an extent but like they werent even official and this man was saying how she was ”his”

i wanted to deck him. right in the face.

CONCLUSION ˎˊ˗
yup. another 1 star book. this is my third 1 star book in a row. something clearly is not right so… save me. ok bye <3

When you first read the premise you may think this will be a frecking masterpiece but don't fool yourself, this entire book is a disaster.

In the very first chapter, we get to see a six-year-old fall in love with her brother's best friend and even though in the following chapters we get to see a grown-up version of her, her six-year-old self still inhabits her body, the woman didn't change a bit, she's just more irritating because that kind of behaviour may be acceptable for a six-year-old but, not a grown-ass adult.

I've lost count of how many times I've rolled my eyes just by reading a single word of the book because the writing it's extremely cringy -and her thoughts too, I mean, "ovaries explosion"???. There's a lot of telling and not showing, - like the fake wedding that was what I was here for -, a lot of random moments and scenes that came out of nowhere and are extremely confusing because it doesn't seem to match the narrative. The plot gives the impression that nothing really relevant happened the entire time and all we just read are just a couple of "cute and romantic" scenes that are supposed to make your heart melt. Well, mine didn't.

Now you may think, "I get it, it's terrible", but let me walk you through the worst part, the characters.

We get a child, our protagonist Olive, and a bland, possessive and pathetic male, our love interest, Jason. The number of times he called her 'little one' made me want to choke myself and angrily throw my kindle across the room at the same time, a remarkable achievement. They don't have chemistry or tension, the smut was terrible, it hurt my eyes, -he even calls her 'little one' during it- and all his possessive attitude during it just made me disgusted, I mean, she already done it with her ex, get over it. And her ex, what unnecessary character that were just here to provide jealousy and in the ending his 'sentiment' wasn't even developed. Talking about unnecessary characters, Lucy was one of them, man what an annoying character! I hate her even more than Olive, she wasn't funny or awkward in a cute way, she was a pain in my ass.

And now let's talk about consent, if someone is drunk it means that this person cannot consent, Olive wasn't in her right mind, this scene was disgusting. He did what he did while she was drunk and he doesn't even talk about it the other day, what?? And also, if someone is sleeping they can't give you consent, what's wrong with this book? These two scenes weren't romantic, engaging, or in any way likable. It was wrong.

“She was seeing me, and maybe for the first time, I was seeing her too.”

Olive wrote a romance novel inspired by her childhood crush on a boy named Jason Thorn. Well, now he's a hot movie actor who will star in a movie based on that exact book. They haven't seen each other in seven years and things get interesting when they meet again.

➦I listened to an audio book version of this and it was sexy and fun. Having Sebastian York as a narrator certainly didn't hurt *wink wink* :) The dialogues were interesting, the book didn't seem to drag in the second half, which so often seems to be the case for me. The book was pretty low on drama and that was also to my liking.

Loved the heroine. She was cracking me up with her hilarious inner monologues and pep talks.
“I'm a calm waterfall, a purring fucking cat.”

❤Jason has always seen himself as Olive's big brother and called her his "little one". He also repeatedly planted kisses on her forehead. It was interesting to see his perception of her change. Oh how hard he was trying to keep his paws off her. It was hot and delicious.

➦Perhaps the only negative thing I have to say about the book is the over-use of the endearment "little one". It got very repetitive after a while and became more of a turn-off than the other way around. It made me want to slap Jason repeatedly with a rotten fish and yell at him things like "Can't you see how hot she is? Jump her, NOW!

”My dream boy. My childhood crush. My first love. My only love. And now my pretend husband.”

description

I didn’t expect to like this story as much as I did. It started out cute then felt like it was going to be the typical same old, when the hero was presented being a typical manwhore in an alley in the present. However, somewhere along the way I fell in love with both main characters and started to really enjoy the story. I found the writing solid, sweet, and overall a good romantic read.

Jason Thorn, Hollywood’s biggest star, meets the author of his next movie and its Olive, his best friend’s little sister, all grown up. Olive has been in love with Jason Thorn since her brother first brought him over her family’s home when she was a little girl. Now ready to graduate college and her first book being adapted for the silver screen, Jason and Olive’s paths cross once again. Jason’s publicist talks him into fixing his image with a marriage to the girl next door. Let the fun begin…

”Do you know what happens after you start acting like you’re in love with a girl? Or, hell, forget about being in love, do you know what happens when you act like you’re dating each other? Falling for each other? No? Let me tell you what happens: you start to get lost in your own fucking game.”

Jason and Olive’s romance was sweet, sexy, funny, and well worth the read.

”Surprisingly, you’ve been the best kind of heartache, Jason Thorn.”

"You've been the best kind of heartache, Jason Thorn."

A love story about a Hollywood star and a romance author? Oh, hello my weak spots!

The blurb of To Love Jason Thorn was the one that got my attention. I love Hollywood romance, more so when it talks about hot, swoon-worthy actors who fall in love with ordinary women. Tropes like this are my undoing.

Olive Taylor and Jason Thorn have known each other since they were kids. Growing up, Olive developed an infatuation with Jason. In fact, she thought she might be in love with him. But because Jason sees her as just a "little sister", her feelings were not returned. Worst, she even ended up heartbroken when Jason left San Francisco and relocated to Los Angeles. Now after how many years, both of them are already successful. Jason's already an A-lister Hollywood actor while Olive is now a bestselling romance author. When Olive's book Soul Ache was optioned for a movie, her world turned upside down when she knew that Jason is going to be the leading man and he'll play her character Isaac.

"He was still my first crush and my first heartbreak, but he was also Jason Thorn. The Jason Thorn who was only twenty-six and had two Oscar nominations under his belt."

Light, sweet, cuteness overload, and searing hot are what you can basically expect from this book. It's my first Ella Maise read and I found her writing tasteful. I am definitely going to read her other works soon!

The characters' palpable chemistry was one of the strengths I found in this book. I also loved how the "sweet reunion" and "marriage of convenience" themes were jam packed full of everything. There were a lot of scenes here that made me giggle. I could say that Jason and Olive are one of the coolest book couples I've read about! The way the story wrapped up was a bit predictable though, but I did enjoy it as a whole. Definitely recommending this to everyone!

"Maybe we were written for each other from the very first day we met, but it would've taken me a long time to find you on my own. So thank you for finding me. Thank you for writing yourself into our happy and inevitable ending."

Well, this can be regarded as a cute, sweet, romantic and hot story but somewhere somehow I lost my interest in it. Mainly, I couldn't relate to the characters and maybe that is why, the story didn't affect my heart that much...

Firstly, I think I was annoyed with the hero, Jason, for losing touch with his best friend and the family who loved him dearly and I was never able to forgive him.

Secondly, when they met after so many years, our girl, Olive acted cold and distant towards Jason and she was right to do so but the third time they met, she was as sweet as sugar, cute and friendly all of a sudden. The transition was quick, abrupt and annoying for me. I didn't see it coming, and I was like, "Why, how, ?"

Then, she accepted the fake marriage thing with Jason. And then, a lot of hot scenes despite the fake marriage deal...

Well, I think I lost my interest in the book totally during those hot scenes because, honestly, I was waiting for a deeper love story. There is this love story of a little girl from the age of 7 to 22. She has never got over him. She has never stopped dreaming about him. Although she had a few boyfriends, Jason was her real and big love. And I think, that is why, I really expected the man to fall in love with her with some deep feelings not because of her boobs or ass, or whatever ... With all these hot scenes before realizing and confessing any feelings, the love story turned into a lust story for me. I would have been OK with those hot scenes, I would have been really happy even if only she had made it hard for him to earn. Well, it was just too easy...

I don't know, maybe it is me only, I kind of couldn't find what I was expecting and it was just an OK read for me...

SPOILERS AHEAD, CAUTION

1.5 ⭐

I think I deserve an award for reading through this. It took me so long to get through each chapter.

“You stole my little heart with just one dimple, you sneaky little thief. I never managed to fall out of love with you after that

Just for the record: "little one" was mentioned 48 times in this book & yes, I counted. It sounded so predatory so I had to affirm myself that Jason Thorn is not it.

The writing style of this book was so boring and it kept to the same, deflated tone throughout the book. Not once did it change. It felt like I was reading a bad Wattpad story.

Jason is not attractive, at all. He seemed like a boy who didn't know how to make proper decisions. Who didn't know how to man up. Who had so many people covering his pathetic ass. I was not even the least into him. He only loved Olive because he was forced to be with her, if not it wouldn't have hit him. The line between them was blurred and so quickly it was ridiculous.

Secondly, Olive. She seemed to not have her own personality apart from Lucy. Heck, if she didn't have that conversation with Lucy she wouldn't have said yes to the fake marriage thing with Jason in the first place. The insta-love from young could have been cute if there was more chapters to show the interaction between Jason and Olive but it was cut short so 0 points for this trope. There was no wedding scene, I actually didn't even know they went from engaged to married because I skimmed past the book. So I had to rewind and go back to find out, they went from engaged to married in 0.5 seconds.

Thirdly, what the fuck is Lucy? It is normal for girlfriends to want the dirty details but she's a little TMI its uncomfortable. I think she needs one good knock to the head:

"Because I do want details of that. Like every little dirty detail. Is he fat and curvy? Short and fat? Veiny? Thick and long? Can you imagine how lucky you’d be if that was the case. Be honest, you never sneaked into the bathroom when he was taking a shower? I bet even at eighteen his junk was impressive"

And of course, the cliche "accidental touch" moments are so many and spread across the book it is so annoying. It is not accidental if you have enough time to look at each other's eyes for so long, people. It had passed the accidental mark.

The whole fake marriage thing was stupid, why would that be the solution for a sex crazed fella who does not want to settle down??? Heck, he can't even remember the name of those he has sex with. Why would he remember Olive's?

The one-bed (this was voluntarily) thing played a terrible part where somehow Olive decided to climb all over Jason in her sleep, if that is even possible. It's cringey and irritating. (Of course after Olive tells Lucy, the first thing she wants to know is if Olive saw his dick).

So, I told myself to read this book because I had not read any sexual scene yet. But I should have stopped because this book's very first sexual scene is a big fat, NO. I don't even know what else to say other than it took me a lot of head shaking to get to the end of the scene. So did I actually read so many chapters of this book to get this horrible scene? Yes. Am I stupid? YES.

“Can you give me my toy, Jason who is not Jason? I really need it.” Before I could ask what the hell she was talking about she grabbed my wrist and pushed my hand into her underwear.

So Olive has a big and bad need to get off and somehow Jason is so nice to give her the orgasm she kept asking for so that she can sleep

“Open your legs, sweetheart,” I whispered finally. If she could have the orgasm she was clearly desperate for, maybe she would go to sleep.

Big fat no for this scene. 1) she's drunk 2) even though she is the one who initiated it, she did not verbally give the consent to carry on 3) Jason is a fucking dick

Though, I have to give Ms Maise credit. She comes up with such cringey, typical scenarios. It takes a lot of imagination for it to be possible. Would anyone in the right mind ask a girl to pose in a dress with her nipples on display for a photoshoot? Sure, if it was for porn related. But what the heck??? What kind of situations are this? And of course Olive goes along with it.

Also, Olive is a big fat liar. When Lucy asked her if Jason is a dirty talker she said:

Already fanning herself, she said, “Go ahead, answer. He is a dirty talker, isn’t he? He has to be.” “Yes."

Saying the F word is not the way to be a dirty talker, has she met Josh Chen?

A last one for the unrealistic situations: First Olive found out her ex slept with her roommate while they were together, next her bff's sleeping partner is in an accident, how can things escalate so fast? Firstly, he's her ex so I don't get why was she unhappy. Secondly, she chose to abandon her new husband aka love of her life in the club for her bff's sexy time dude. Thirdly, that is why the stupid falling out came out bc if she hadn't left his sorry ass it wouldn't have happened and I wouldn't had read another stupid problem at the end.

The only reason why I gave this 1.5 ⭐ is because it had dual pov. But honestly reading Jason's pov was as good as not tbh. All the important scenes were excluded, all the non-important scenes dragged this book out for so long. This book doesn't need 33 chapters. Probably half of it would have done it.

So my conclusion is: Love Hypothesis's Olive > To Love Jason Thorn's Olive.

And I will not be reading the next book that is centered around Lame Lucy.

Do you know why, as kids, grown-ups teach us to not judge a book by its cover? Because a book might be ugly outside, but being very beautiful on the inside.
Or, maybe, because one day you can find a book with an excellent cover and get shocked about how awful its inside is.

I’d have loved to say something like: “You can change the cover of a book, but not the audience it was created for”, but it was too harsh even for me.
I don't judge people who like these types of books, everyone has his genre and it's fine. I'd like to think about myself as someone who likes to try things, even if she knows she doesn't like them.
Also, I had no idea about the first printing and, thinking about that, I’d have expected more sex.

But let me tell you this: dirty talk is an art.
You're struggling with you're writing skills? You can take classes for that.
You're struggling with imagination? Look around you and take your time.
But dirty talk? You need to have that in yourself. If you're good, you can turn someone on with a grocery list; if you're bad, shut the fuck up.

Now you're probably wondering: “Is it so bad tho?”. Well, my friend, when Ella Maise writes I go dry like sand. Not even to mention THAT sex scene: the worst thing I've ever read. Like, so bad in so many ways.
Now I'm laughing, but while reading it I was desperate. I didn't know what to do, I felt disgusted and a little scared that could happen to me. I believe Olive and Jason were doing everything right but having to read it was one of the worst things I've ever had to do.

Looking back, the elements for a cute and sweet story were there: childhood friends-to strangers-to friends-to fake relationship-to lovers is a great trope, complicated but always with a place in our heart. Olivia is the perfect female protagonist, Jason is the perfect bad/not so bad guy, and Lucy is the friend we all want.
But I can't believe every single person who read this story didn't see the extremely poor writing skills of the author. You don't need to have read the great classics or thousands of cheap romances to see that. After the first chapter, you’ve already witnessed the awkward description of the events, the inability to carry a conversation without putting here and there words like ass or dick, and the feeling this book was written as a fanfiction by a 12-year-old girl. Why I am even studying to be a writer when I can submit the fanfictions I wrote about Harry Styles when I was a kid?

Seriously, this really let me down.
I can't be anything else than glad if you liked this story or if the things I said weren't a problem to you, but also I’d suggest you to read something more substantial and not always listen to the booktok or whatever it's called.

This was one of the cheesiest books I have ever read. It plays out like a Disney Channel Movie and I am too grown for that shit.

There is zero chance that I would ever, ever, ever recommend this book to anyone.

I dropped my rating after writing this review and realizing that I didn't like anything about it.

“I wanted to own those secret smiles just as much I wanted to own her beautiful heart. I wanted to be the reason for their existence.”

I love the idea of this book, I feel like it's the dream of some of us readers and a lot of writers. Imagine your childhood crush, who you wrote a book about, getting cast in the movie adaptation and falling in love with you? That's literally such a perfect concept, I just wish the execution was as good.

I have many issues with the book including: hating the characters, consent, her boobs, boring, pedophilia? (question mark bc it's weird), the cringe... agh so many things.

Let's start with the easy part. Why did they have to mention how big and soft her boobs were every single chapter? Like, okay, we get it your books are big!! stop freaking mentioning them! the way that's all Jason would think about when he saw her should already tell you how incredible their chemistry was omg.
Also, this comment?
"My ass looks huge, doesn't it? Jason, please. I don't wanna do this. I'm not cut out for this." one of the biggest pick-me comments I've ever read.

The writing was also so bad. Why would someone write "ovaries explosions" and be okay with it?
- it was cringey
- olive's personality didn't change from when she was a 6 year old to nowadays... she was a child in a woman's body
- jason saying 'baby' during sex a thousand times, made me want to puke
- why didn't we get to see the wedding? it's a marriage of convenience book...
- the conflict at the end which was completely unnecessary since they had been in love with each other since like 40% into the book, why was it so long?

Jason thorn and Olive's hate club!!
sign here to join:

no, but seriously wtf was this?
Olive is just such an annoying character. Why is her name Olive? Can't authors find other names for female leads in romance novels? She's annoying and immature. she didn't know how to make decisions without her best friend, it was as if she didn't have a personality of her own. every time she said anything I would die of embarrassment. and there were some things that she did that I hated but I'll talk about them later in the review.

Jason was so possessive and disgusting. Let's start with his main problem... why does he call Olive 'little one'? I get that that was her nickname when they were little because she is younger, but she's a grown-up adult and this nickname just makes him seem like a pedophile. it's extremely creepy. I hate it so much. I used to think it was cute but the more I thought about it, the weirder it was. He would also follow her to places when she was like hanging out with her "friends" to make sure she was okay... dude, just let her live, she's an adult and it's not like she's alone? He should also start trying to call her Olive instead of 'baby' or 'sweetheart' like just call her by her name?
*starts playing Montero by Lil Nas X*

The consent issue... there were two very problematic scenes and I just hate them so much.
1) They come back from somewhere and Olive is drunk af, but Jason is sober. Olive is super horny and just wants Jason to touch her, but he resists bc he's a gentleman *eye roll*
Now, Olive does this:

“Olive,” I hissed when I felt her wetness all over my fingers. “Olive, please stop.” I tried to pull my hand away, but she held on to my wrist with her free hand to make sure it stayed where it was."
this is absolutely disgusting, but that's not even the worst part. I know Jason tried to pull away, but then this happened:

“Open your legs, sweetheart,” I whispered finally. If she could have the orgasm she was clearly desperate for, maybe she would go to sleep."
NOOOOOO, she's literally in a state where she can't verbally consent because she's DRUNK. I don't care that she forced you, don't freaking touch her. I don't think she even remembered? agh

2) This one... I just don't understand how someone can write this and be okay with it? and the editors? did they think that it was okay?!
One morning after having sex, Jason wakes up to Olive riding his dick.... HE WAS ASLEEP.
I just find so many things wrong with this scene omg, wtf was she thinking? I don't care that he ended up being okay with it and even lowkey invited to do it every morning. He did NOT consent because he was ASLEEP. I was so disgusted by this.

so yeah as you can see I hated it and the only thing I liked was the idea of the book because that would be my dream, but the author's execution was terrible. I will not be reading the next book because I didn't even LIKE Lucy either! I don't recommend, don't let yourself get carried with the tiktok hype.

3.5⭐️

“I wanted to own those secret smiles just as much I wanted to own her beautiful heart. I wanted to be the reason for their existence.”

can't believe after 4 fucking LONG ass days i'm finally done with this book. i thought i hated the writing in marriage for one, no bitches this book was my nightmare.

things i liked:

- the fact that i got butterflies every time they touched.
- i loved their chemistry and the way they were together.

things i hated:

- the writing style. it was so repetitive and hard to get through that i got a reading slump.
- the whole conflict at the end wasn't even needed
- how long this book was. they were in love with each other since like the 30% mark why was this dragged out?
- when the heroine literally got sad bc her ex was hooking up with one of her friends/roommates? bitch you're married and in love why do you care?
- the fact that the parts that we needed to read weren't there... this whole book centered on them getting married and we didn't even see the wedding? we didn't get to see anything in this book tbh.
- the parts that had (shit i forgot the heroine's name already) olive? and lucy? just talking. i get it they are bffs but idc? i was so bored.
- tbh there are way too many things i don't like in this book but i forgot half of them already bc it took me this long to read.

safe to say ella maise's writing style isn't for me because i actually like the couple and i love the romance but god this felt like a chore to read.

Audiobook Review at Of Pens and Pages.

Overall Rating: 4.5 stars
Story: 4.5 stars
Performance: 4.5 stars

STORY OVERVIEW AND REVIEW:

Olive Taylor has been in love with Jason Thorn, their neighbor and her brother's best friend, since the moment she laid eyes on his dimples. While that longstanding crush eventually ended in heartbreak shortly before he moved away, Olive knew Jason would always have a place in her heart.

Fast forward to the future. Olive is graduating from college and is a bestselling indie author in talks to have her precious debut novel turned into a movie. The producers love her book and they want one actor to play the part of her book's romantic hero. Hollywood heartthrob Jason Thorn. The man who inspired the romantic hero and story.

Suddenly, Jason is back in her life, and it looks like he'll be staying there for good. To have and to hold. 'Til death do them part. Or at least until Jason's reputation is salvaged. All of Olive's dreams are coming true, but it all feels too good to be true. She has her chance to make Jason fall in love with her, but being with an A-list celebrity isn't as sunshine and rainbows as people might think.

You guys, I just love this book so much! I melt every time Jason calls Olive different endearments. The touches. The glances. The heat! These two have amazing chemistry; their relationship is both adorable and hot AF. I knew I wanted them to end up together the moment they met. Olive with her little girl crush, and Jason with his caring and affectionate attitude.

It was easy to see when they met again that Jason is attracted to her, but his respect for her brother and parents kept him from making a move. It was so sweet and honestly hot to see that change—from seeing Olive as kind of like a little sister he wants to protect to a woman he wants to love. SWOON!

A big shout out to Lucy for being the best best friend! She's there to cheer Olive on, and you just know she's the kind of friend who'll drop everything and be there for you when you need her. Everyone deserves a friend like Lucy.

Oh, one more thing. Charlotte can eat sh*t.

WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT THE AUDIOBOOK?

Whenever I listen to an audiobook narrated by two people, there's always a narrator I prefer or enjoy more, but surprisingly I enjoyed these two narrators equally. Sebastian York could do no wrong in my ears, so it wasn't surprising I'd love his part in the audiobook, but Lidia Dornet definitely gave Mr. York a run for his money. This was my first Lidia Dornet experience, and I had a lot of fun listening to her!

There's a scene I love in the book that Ms. Dornet narrated, and wow. Insert ten fire emojis here because wow. It was even steamier than when I read it!

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS AUDIOBOOK TO A FRIEND? IF SO, WHY?

It's a fun book in an equally fun audiobook, so of course I'm recommending it! I read To Love Jason Thorn a few years ago, and it's one of the books that fully cemented my love for New Adult Romance. Listening to it was just as fun, if not more. The narrators did a wonderful job in portraying the characters, and I'm so happy to know they also narrated To Hate Adam Connor. Listen to that, too!

Jason and Olive meet as kids and Olive falls for her brother's bestie hard. Her crush grows and grows until an event in her teen years where Jason breaks her heart. She pulls away from their friendship and they don't get the chance to repair it before Jason has to move away. Years later, they reunite and an attraction builds to more as they get to know eachother once again. I've got to say, as sexy as Jason was, he was not as easy to love as Adam was (Hero of book two... I read out of order). He was a former manwhore and his ways caused serious damage to his reputation. Enough so that it motivates and initiates a critical part of the plot. I felt bad for Olive for her role in this part of the story, as it really used her feelings for Jason in a way I was not a fan of. Thankfully, they work it all out and in the meantime have some cute moments together. I also enjoyed Olive's relationship with Lucy, her bestie. They are very organic with one another in a way that is believable. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. A little ex drama. No rape or abuse.

I do adore Marriage for One. Unfortunately, I do not enjoy To Love Jason Thorn. I am confuse with what is the story supposes to be about. Forbidden romance, childhood crush, movie star romance??

I guess it stared with forbidden romance and childhood crush. I do enjoy the childhood crush moment. It was cute seeing Olive fallen in love with Jason. The story had a good promise.

Then towars the 50%, it started to lose its focus. And only filled with so much cheesy romance banter. I got bored. Especially when there were no drama/ plot to heighten the story.

Overall I still enjoy the book OK.

okay so from this book i realised that authors have to get there husbands/boyfriend to help then write the smut scenes right?! PENALOPE DOUGLAS YOU KINKY LMAO WTF

i loved this book so much! it had everything i wanted but the drama at the end was just unessasary. Jason thorn is the man, he is the moment. I loved Olive so much too, but i was not expecting the smut with that cover. You see that, pink cute cartoon cover, what do you think? Butterflies and rainbows, but oh no its all hardcore smut and damn it was good!

Jason Thorn
This man is the moment he is one of the best. I loved him so much and it really opened my eyes to what celebes have to deal with on a daily basis. The one thing i hated was how Jason called Olive 'little one' that was disgusting. But we moved on from that thank godness, anyways this man is perfect and totally romantic and *chefs kiss*

Olive
Ahh i love this girl so much! there is not much to say but i love how she is a writer. Also why do so many romance novel girls names olive? whats so special about a extra salty food?

Lucy
I love this girl so much! Shes so funny and the best friend anyone could ask for

The End
I hated hate hated the end so so much. I had a bad feeling about that bitch and i was right. Ugh why cant people just let celebrities live their lives? they are humans just like us!

okay thats it, its not my best review but its my thoughts.
bye for now

the beginning of this big was just such a big no for me. the book starts off as a pov of a 6 year old but then she’s using big words, not saying children don’t know big words but epitome? REALLY? and then when they jumped to when she was 13 i was even more annoyed like there was a scene they were babysitting her and one of them mentioned other girls and she just started crying like??? then she was catfishing the guy by texting and it just was weird to me cus he was like 17. first of all she didn’t text like a 13 year old at all and it’s not like she was mature for her age cus her ass was just crying when he mentioned another girl. she also was a terrible catfish but that’s neither here or there. also i didn’t know this was like a celebrity love story when i read it (i should’ve read the description) but i continued to give it a try anyways because i read another one this month and liked it and this one seemed different. i just didn’t like it i guess. writing is childish, it’s like a 16 year old trying to figure out what they think writing an adult romance would be like.

★★★★★ 5 When-our-stars-aligned stars ★★★★★

Oh my god ! I seriously love everything about this read ! This book was just too super cute not to earn 5 stars ! I'm literally banging my head against the wall for taking so long to finally pick this one up !

For (What I'm pretty sure is the first time),My most FAVORITE thing about this book wasn't the heroine or hero(Though Jason is pretty damn hot ;) But the writing, that I LOVED the most. The words just flowed so easily from the pages and basically seeped into my imagination, creating a beautiful picture of their chemistry & love.

“Is your heart still beating just for me, Olive?” he asked softly, his voice low and sweet.
I closed my eyes tighter.
“I wonder if you can feel my touch in your dreams…if that’s why your heart is beating so fast.”

The plot line, though over-used generally, seemed to shine through a bit more originally through this one.Not sure what exactly made the whole thing click but nevertheless the journey was smooth and quick,it was almost like I took Jason's Ferrari for a short drive on the highway.

“I already fell—a little too hard if you ask me. Now it’s your turn.”
“My turn for what?”
“To say you love me so I can close my eyes and fall all the way.”

NOTE TO ALL THE LIGHT-LOVE READERS...This book has almost NO SERIOUS ANGST ! Sure there is drama,(for what good book doesn't ? ;) But things blow over quite quickly for our two leads without too much of a mess or distrust. The heroine was just awesome that way :) Loved her too <3

By the end, there was no future take 3 or 5 years down the road but just a short skip ahead and somehow it just worked for this story.Reading about the characters wake up and live on just seemed fitting for some reason I loved the feeling that there was a lot more of love in store for them very soon ;)

Like I said,Loved everything about this book :) Even the sexy times ;) Will definatly be reading more of Ella Maise's works. And yes ! Would defiantly recommend this one Ladies !

Wow the reading slump I'm in rn is so real.

I don't want to say this was bad because that feels very disingenuous, but I just wanted to like this so much more. Like when I had 1 hour left in the audiobook, I literally thought to myself "wait who's Olive". Olive is the main character. I think I should know that.

The biggest problem I had with this was that nothing happened that wasn't in the synopsis until about halfway through the book. I do love a good trope, but there needs to be some sort of twist that makes it interesting.

I don't know I think if I had read this when I wasn't in a reading slump I definitely would have enjoyed it much more, so maybe take this review with a grain of salt. I think I'll read more books by this author. I might even read the next book in the series, but no one tell me the tropes or the synopsis in it!
