Shadow SEALs #6

Shadow of the Moon

Rate this book
Devlin Kreed used to be one of the best Navy SEAL snipers in the business. They called him Moon Devil, because he preferred to hunt his targets during the darkest part of the night.
When he took out a high-value informant, his career was suddenly over. The Navy SEALs kicked him out the door as a liability. The op had been planned, though. The CIA promised him they would have his back, then they'd hung him out to dry, letting him take the fall for the lost target.
Now, there was a voice on the phone offering him an astronomical amount of money to take out the same man again. Because the CIA messed up. In trying to relocate the man, he'd escaped them.
CIA agent Amberly Temple knew something was hinky as soon as the folder hit her desk. It was a cold case, but one of the most high-profile ones in her department, and she suspects a dirty agent. As she tracks down witnesses and backtracks the investigation, someone tries to take her out.
Luckily her former SEAL ex-husband is there to save her ass...

I'm tapping out of this one after 5 chapters. I set it down after chapter 4, did something around the house, then went back twice before I read one more chapter, put it down again, tried to move on to chapter 6 and just cant' do it.

I feel really bad because I normally love this author, but this one just isn't for me. I don't really like either Amberly or Devlin and I have a hard time buying the mysterious woman Charly that called Devlin out of the blue that had so much knowledge about Devlin's past.

Devlin “Moon Dog” Kreed had to reinvent himself and refuses to look back until the phone call. Blackmailed and burned by the CIA on an operation he lost everything, his Navy Seal career, the respect of his teammates, extended family and friends. But what hurt the most was that Amberly, his wife, didn’t believe in his innocence and divorced him.

Amberly, a CIA operative, is working alone on a cold case involving Tango 11, part of the same case that brought her ex-husband down. What she doesn’t know is that she is walking into a trap. Devlin rushes to defend and protect and works with her to locate Tango 11 and stop his plans. But perhaps there is another player much closer to Amberly than anyone thinks.

J.M. Madden has a way of bringing her characters to life and this story is no exception. The raw emotions when Amberly realizes Devlin was set up is heart wrenching. I spent the rest of the book hoping that Devlin and “his heart” would find their way back to each other.

I received and ARC of this book, but the review is my own.

Devlin Kreed received a dishonorable discharge from the Navy SEALs where he was the sniper known as Moon Devil. It was believed he killed a terrorist without orders. His team deserted him, his wife divorced him. Now he has been called into action by a woman called Charley. He will be working with his ex Amberly Temple to take out the terrorist he supposedly already killed. Not a fan of the ex-wife.

Whew, what a read! I made the mistake of jumping into this book just before dinner. I grumbled the whole time I was cooking because it was keeping me from this book! Shadow Of The Moon is a spectacular romantic suspense by J.M. Madden. As always, Ms. Madden has provided readers with a well-written book filled with a phenomenal cast of characters. Dev was set up to take a fall by the CIA, the same CIA his wife worked for. He lost his SEAL team, his job, his reputation and his wife. When an unknown woman calls that his ex-wife is heading for trouble though, he was on the move. Amberly is in Chicago to see an informant. When bullets start flying she's on the move. Dev and Amberly's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I loved everything about this book and can't wait for my next read by J.M. Madden. Shadow Of The Moon is book 6 of the Shadow SEALs Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Gosh I love this shadow SEALs series. Every time I read the newest book in the series I swear it's my favorite---that is until the next one comes along. I am dying to find out who the mysterious Charley really is and who she represents. Shadow of the Moon is very suspenseful, has some great fast paced action and a few surprising twists but the attraction between Devlin Kreed and Amberly Temple is really what stands out and is scorching hot.

Devlin was set up and forsaken by the powers that be for just doing the job he was assigned. Even his wife believed that he betrayed his team for monetary gain. Now he has a chance for redemption, even if he's the only one who knows it. The only problem is that part of job necessitates working with his ex, Amberly. Keeping her safe as they pursue an ego-maniacal, home grown extremist throws them together 24/7, while they try to figure out what the man is plotting. It gives them n time to talk, clear the air and reconnect even if it's only until the end of the mission. The chemistry and sizzle is still there but has there been too much hurt to overcome for them to ever have another chance at happiness?

Devlin "Moon Devil" Kreed was framed. He was only following orders when his life went into the toilet. He was no longer a SEAL and no longer married. In the three years since his life went downhill, he started his own business. He is doing well for himself until he receives a call from "Charly" and a faceless person with a mission for him. Save his ex-wife and kill the target that ended his SEAL career.

Amberlyn Temple is a CIA agent who works cold cases. She also happens to be Devlin's ex-wife. She is sent to meet with an informant with explosive information about a terrorist attack around the Sept. 11th anniversary. She doesn't know how much danger she is in and when she finds out her ex-husband was sent to save/help her, what could go wrong?

This was a very exciting book with a few twists and turns along the way. Ms. Madden knows how to capture her readers' attention and keep it. Amberly and Devlin have great chemistry and that comes through the pages. I am never disappointed by a J.M. Madden story and this is a wonderful addition to the series.

How can you forgive people that are closest to you when they believe lies that are told?

How do you overcome everyone turning their back on you, especially your wife and teammates? Devlin was set up by the CIA to take the fall for supposedly killing for hire. Amberly works for the CIA and she believed the lies they told her about Devlin instead of trusting her what her heart told her. Now they have to work together to kill the person the CIA accused him of killing. Will they be able to put their differences aside and work together? Will Devlin tell Amberly the truth about what really happened three years ago and will she believe him? Can they find who in the CIA is working with the terrorist and set him up? I don't know if I could forgive and forget someone who could walk away from me so easily.

Best book in the series. Action packed, suspense, anger, loss of trust, broken marriage, deception, redemption, true love family. When do we get to meet mysterious Charley? She is intriguing.
Once again the corruption of our government at the top and the organization protecting us, sets up a Seal and ruins a career. Are we really that corrupt?
I was sad and upset that not one of Devlin’s Seal brother’s stood behind him or that Amberly, his wife , did not trust in him and stand behind him. Just because she worked for the CIA you would think she would figure out there is corruption in the ranks. She took an oath to death do us part.
Devlin never stopped living her and protected her and her career.
At least true live and devotion does sometimes win out and a surprise gets added to their life.

I found it heartbreaking that Amberly had so little trust in Devlin that she not only believed the lies but didn't even let him explain. That he doesn't hesitate to go rescue her when trouble brews shows the true measure of the person he is. Intense at times, some wonderful banter and chemistry and as the story goes on she does start questioning herself even before hearing the truth. Action and excitement in a few places that gave it the edgy suspenseful feel, intrigue and betrayal a plenty. Romance 're united was a given from the sparks at the start but there were a few surprises and actually this didn't finish quite how I expected it would but I wasn't disappointed just thought a decision might go in another direction more on her part than his. Very much filled with emotional turmoil and a bit scary in a few action scenes which made this a perfect read.

Reading a Madden book is always thrilling. Her characters have intense stories with plenty of details and personalities easy to enjoy. The storyline for this one is almost too realistic consider domestic terrorism is a real thing. Devlin and Amberly were previous married before his reputation to a left turn when he was backstabbed by his own government. They end up chasing a terrorist and his cell, trying to prevent multiple bombings. The adventure is more of the seat gripping variety and the couple have plenty of heat to keep things spicy. Numerous authors have contributed to this series but I have found it is not necessary to read in order. I’ve received my copy early and have written my review voluntarily.

Shadow of the Moon by J. M. Madden

This is the sixth book in the Shadow SEALs series and I loved it but then I have to admit I love all of Ms. Madden's books. Totally worth five stars and many more.

Devlin "Moon Devil" Kreed was burned by the CIA during a op his SEAL Team was part of and everyone believed he was the guilty party because he didn't take out the target. Now 3 years later he answers the phone from a mysterious "Charley" who advises that his ex-wife Amberly Temple is in danger of dying in Chicago. All he wants is to clear his name and have a Honorable Discharge on his military record. However can he convince Amberly that A. She needs help and is in danger; B. That he was set up and C. Can together will they be able to find the corrupt CIA agent and finally take down Tango 11?

Very action packed, pedal to the metal from start to finish book.

Shadow of the Moon

When Dec received the text followed by a call from a stranger he had no idea what was in store for him. He booted out of the Service for doing what he wad tasked to do by a turn coat. He lost his home and wife and had begun to recover in a new life, although his old life, especially his wife still haunt him.
Charley wants him to take a run at the same target and this time really kill him. He is also supposed to help a CIA Agent keep from being killed. Oh, the CIA Agent just happens to be his ex-wife! Will they be able to even work together much less complete their mission? Will they perhaps come up with a new mission for after they are through with this one?
Another great Shadow SEALs book!

If you had told me yesterday that J. M. Madden's SHADOW OF THE MOON would become my all-time favorite book supplanting all of her Lost N Found series, I would've called you crazy. What a difference a few hours and a totally superior book make!

I don't like reviews that give away the plot of a book so I won't write that here. Just know that Devlin Kreed and Amberly Temple now out-rank the wonderful heroes and heroines of ALL Madden's other stories. I will say that the plot development and first-page to last-page action are off the charts. If I could give it ten stars, I would. Do NOT miss this awesome book by J. M. Madden!

Shadow of the Moon is filled with non-stop action and suspense, and from that point of view, it's rather good.
I didn't find Amberly a very convincing character though. For such an experienced professional, she seems to take unnecessary risks sometimes and she believes Devlin's story too easily in my opinion. I also found the sex a bit over the top - not exactly out of place, necessarily, but definitely not matching the tone of the rest of the story, almost as it's been added just to tick it off a list.
Other than the above, great action book. Also, even though it's part of a series, I found it could be perfectly read as stand alone. Recommended.

Shadow of the Moon was a superb addition to the Shadow Seals series. I was captivated from the beginning, and I could not put it down. J M Madden wrote terrific characters that had explosive chemistry. This book has it all. It has a great, suspenseful plot and a sexy second chance love story. You are going to love Devlin and Amberly. They learn to trust each other again during a difficult mission. Can everything be set right again in their world? It will of a Charley has anything to say about it.

Wow, what a story!!!

I really enjoyed reading this and all of the previous books. Each one has its own storyline. Oh my gosh I am literally there as I read each one. The military aspect is so intriguing and emotional. I'm so focused on the story I can't seam to stop at a specific point. All I want is to keep reading until my eyes are tired and blurred. Devlin and Amberly's story was definitely an emotional and heart stopping one. This series is definitely a must read from the first book. I'm getting ready to start the next book (Shadow of the Heart).

You will love Amberly and Devlin's story. Dev is set up and his career as a Seal is over. He has lost everyone dear to him, his team, his friends and his wife. The mysterious Charly gives him a chance to get it all back and set the record straight. But how do you work with and protect your ex wife who believes you are a traitor? J.M. Madden gives us an explosive page turning, edge of your seat ride that you will absolutely love. An impressively splendid addition to the Shadow Seals Series.

AVENGING PAST WRONGS

Shadow of the Moon struck all the right cords. Plenty of action, suspense, twists and surprises, redemption, and the very best in a second chance romance. A story that is a stand out in this multi author series. Getting a further look at these characters in the future would be fantastic. A not to be missed book in a not to be missed series. Very highly recommend!

Dev and Amberly, 2nd Chances

Full immersion into a journey is what you get here. Enough details to follow along easily, and still fast-paced to keep you enthralled.
Amberly and Dev, divorced, now end up on their own mission to fix a lot of wrongs. It is harrowing, intricately plotted, and keeps you on your toes the whole time.
Of course there's some sass, poignant times and a bit of scorching heat. An HEA with extra happy.

This is book 6 or the shadow SEAL’s Series and even though it’s always a SEAL somehow being screwed over by the system or somebody and leaving the Team. The stories are still pretty cool and unique. Decline and Amberly’s second chance story is filled with action, betrayal, forgiveness, love and some hot parts. Enjoyed reading it. I am on to book 7 and now I really hope we get to read Charley’s story at some point.

I loved this book! Devlin, a former SEAL, and his ex wife Amberly, a CIA operative, are forced together to stop an attack surrounding the anniversary of 9/11. For exes, the chemistry was amazing. The action was nonstop as they uncovered a terror plot while simultaneously unraveling the secrets of their past. I was hooked from the beginning and didn't put it down until I was finished.

Devlin and Amberly have history being married at one time, being made the fall guy for the government he gets a call from the infamous Charley to save his ex-wife from home grown terrorist set on wreaking havoc on women and children, fast paced, edge of your seat, panty melting combustible chemistry between them, absolutely amazeballs, thank you, Dana Zamora

It's so great to see older main characters. Devlin and Amberly have the experience to get the job done and the maturity to accept that we all make mistakes. The story is believable in times like these and the action is fast. I have to say, I read it in one sitting and enjoyed every page. If you like more mature characters this is definitely the book, and series for you. Enjoy!

Saving the One Women He Loved!

Shadow of the Moon: WOW! Excellent, story, writing and characters. I could not put it down it was so good. It's sad what people assume instead of checking thinks out to see if it's the truth. Devlin was dealt a bad hand by his brothers and his wife. I really enjoyed this story!

Hang on to your seat

JM Madden delivers a fast paced story with intrigue, deceit and serious bad guys. Trying to live an honorably life when so seriously wronged. Devlin gets a text from the mysterious Charley. A mission that could rectify the lies, trickery, deceit and broken heart. A second chance at love story worthy of your time and investment.

And Madden does it again

I love her stories about military because as ex military with a lot of military with family and friends I feel a pride that seems to be lacking where the general public is concerned. This is still a great place to live and our military are always ready to go where needed.
