Absolutely awesome! Spiritually edifying and literarily appealing. I loved the prayer prompts, the practical application and the real down to earth voice of the author. This book felt like Sunday school, Bible study and small group were all emanating from each page.
Have you ever felt at a loss in your prayers? You don't know what to pray because you just don't have words or you are overwhelmed with so many people and things on your heart that you can't narrow it down to a thought or then feel guilty because you forgot this or that, so you put in a quick prayer but maybe don't have the time now to really pray for it like you want to or meant to? Than this may be the read you need. Not only does Ms. Hurst break down living in this world into manageable prayer times, but she also gives practical prayers for if you are feeling this, start with a prayer along these lines. What I mean by practical prayer times, is giving a focus to every day of the 28 days, Mondays- Praise, Tuesdays- Repent, Wednesdays- Ask, Thursday- Yield, Friday- Friends and family, Saturday- Challenge (these are usually "push me out if my comfort zone and challenge me to grow in this way or area"), Sunday- Sabbath prayers (praying for your spiritual community), and then each day is broken down into three prayers morning, afternoon, evening following a similar topic throughout the day and often week. This organized approach helps you give solid consideration to things that you just haven't had the time to think about, or to really explore how you need to grow. In essence, this is 28 days of conversation starters for you and your heavenly Father, that will help you grow your spiritual relationship.
No content issues; deep and hard topics are mentioned, but only appropriately.
What a great resource and guide for taking out prayer life to the next level. The author has each of the 28 days broken up into 3 readings per day: morning, afternoon and evening. And in each reading is challenged, teaching and stories. With the goal of assisting us the reader in having an ongoing conversation with God throughout the day. I especially love how she has a focus prayer topics for each day of the week as well. This makes a great book to do as a couple, as a family, as a ladies Bible study no matter the size. I both learned more about prayer as well as grew in my prayer life as a result of this book.
Loved this. It's totally doable and a good kick in the pants to get in the habit of praying 3 times a day. Loved that every day had a different theme. And every week, she made you think of the theme of the day in a different way. It was nice to be singularly focused and not worried about praying for everything every day. One thing I loved was the thought of at the end of the day praying for all those you had contact with that day. Loved ones, friends, and even people you just saw (like your cashier or waitress). It was an easy way to think outside of yourself. I will be doing this book again until I get even better at the habit.
The 28-Day Prayer Journey is a deep dive into the practice of praying. It is understanding the importance of prayer in our lives and how to make it a daily habit. Chrystal Evans Hurst begins by teaching us the acronym for prayer: P = Praise, R = Repent, A = Ask, and Y = Yield. Each week, you work through the four areas of prayer while praying for family, friends, your community, and nation. This book set me up for beginning my day with prayer. I highly recommend this book for everyone.
This is a practical guide to an improved prayer life. I looked forward each day to the focus and prayer prompts for that day. I even started a Prayer Journal so I could record my thoughts and prayers. I will definitely go through this book again and again. I think each focus takes on a new meaning depending on where I am in my life at that time. This time through I really appreciated the suggestions for praying for my pastor and church.
This book challenged me to read and multiple times a day it felt like Chrystal was talking just to me. Even if I missed a day I felt encouraged to pickup where I left off. Her advice to pray more and to Do it effortlessly and without routine but I’m just sweet communion with God
