I love how dark this series can get.
The fact that it doesn’t shy away from all those serious topics is one of my favorites.

And my dear Junpei. He didn’t deserve that. He didn’t deserve that kind of ending. I wanted him to join the others, to have friends and be happy.
And now... now I’m left heartbroken.
Someone seriously needs to deal with Mahito.
He is getting out of hand.

i really am loving every itadori and sukuna interaction/moment. honestly, sukuna was my favorite character in this fourth installment, and im not sure what that says about me, but here we are. my heart @ junpei, fully and utterly. mahito, after my fave scene with sukuna, thinks up a new mission to steal some remaining cursed fingers of sukuna. but besides that, we get to see the start of the good year event, which is a team battle of different schools, where the most exorcisms win. but obviously, itadori is a target all on his own. so, so, so excited to continue on, probably extra because of the cliffhanger ending feeling of this, too!

trigger + content warnings: fighting / battle, violence, blood, gore, death, talk of bullying

“Sorry. I talked big when I didn’t even know anything. Tell me what happened. I definitely won’t curse you or anything, Junpei.”

This volume destroyed my heart. Just... well, things certainly got heavy fast.

We were left from the previous volume in a very intense place and the following action did not disappoint. It was deeply emotional and quite interesting to see with all the little details that it added to the overall picture.

The simple fact that it's something so normal and real that was talked about made the story land a harder punch. It was treated well, and the way everything went at the end made me share more than one tear.

Honestly, Mahito is such an interesting character and I enjoyed seeing more of what he is capable of. I may not like his actions and plans but I do enjoy seeing his enjoyment of everything. There's something satisfying about it.

Nanami and Yuuji were such a fun pair as well, what with the one's stoic demeanor and the other's bubbly personality. They are capable to understand each other well too which makes it all the more interesting to see. And, well, I just have a particular soft spot for both of them.

“Their souls sway and waver those of humans and curses.”

I did appreciate the fact that the ending was more teasing and fun than anything. The balance between action, drama, heartbreak, and comedy is nicely done and has me enthralled half the time.

A nice action scene is always appreciated, of course, they can send a thrill through the blood and make everything super epic and cool, but a good, heartwarming, with some banter, is just as nice a shot through the system and a necessary reprieve to keep one's sanity mostly intact.

Furthermore, the more existentialist themes that the manga is dealing with are also nice to contemplate. They are not oversimplified or abused, instead adding substance and depth to an otherwise light and breezy story. I'm not sure what I myself believe but it is nice to have the opportunity to weigh all of it as I read.

“Our job is to save people. Among those people are you students as well.”

The ending was a blast and I couldn't stop laughing through it all. I really loved it.

More importantly, we have our full cast back and I won't have to miss them anymore, because I certainly did miss them a lot through this volume with a lot of them barely in it, understandably so, sure, but still painfully so.

I still feel like the story is just warming up its engines, which is fine, and can't wait to read where things will go and how intense they'll get once it actually picks up steam. Right now it's already nice and fun but all the potential makes me really excited and anxious for the future. Combined with the fact that there are still many mysteries ahead to unravel and, well, I'm just glad we are nowhere close to the end so that I may have more time with everyone and everything.

“I don’t know what the heck a ‘proper death’ is. Then, at least until I do know, and until I kill that guy… I won’t lose again.”

___________

My heart aches so badly because of this volume.

RTC.
___________

I am not ready for this volume and all that it will do to me. Not at all.

After the ending of the previous volume, I am genuinely scared as to what comes next.

3.5 stars! ⭐️

Poor Junpei broke my heart :(
Besides the opening action with Mahito, this volume did feel a lot less eventful than the others. While Yuji, Gojo and the gang can keep me entertained no matter what they do, I couldn't help wanting a bit more battling or character interaction within this volume. Still, I can't wait for more, especially now that Yuji has returned to his friends (meaning we'll finally get more Megumi again :D).

I was really excited for Jujutsu Kaisen vol 4 after the previous volume. Then I realized this is when the goodwill event between the two Jujutsu schools started. I’m not really a fan of this since the characters have only just been introduced and I don’t really care a fig for the other side... but it is a good way for us to meet a bunch of new characters.

And that is what this is... an introduction to other ways of thinking within the Jujutsu sorcerers. Itadori is paired up with a formidable student with peculiar tastes from a previous volume which was fun.

Plus we get the end of Junpei’s story. It can’t be good for a human to ever get mixed up in curse business and the same is true for this kid. Itadori though gets the experience he needs killing for the greater good. I thought it a little odd what happens with the curse but it’s early in the series so it makes some sense.

I’m really loving Gojo and Nanami as teachers who are a little unconventional. I also quite loved learning how Nanami came to choose being a Jujutsu sorcerer. Right now it’s the older generation blowing me away so I. Hoping the next volume has the punk sorcerers wowing me more.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a fun, horror filled battle manga with great Jujutsu teachers, a neat curse magic and a protagonist who’s bold and compassionate in the best of ways.

Funny reading this and Bleach at the same time you can tell Gege Akutami got inspiration from that series. Saying that, this volume kicks it into fucking HIGH GEAR and our heroes aren't playing around anymore.

After the surprising and twisted end events of the last volume we have our hero Itadori trying to reach out to his buddy Junpei to save him. Then Mahito, a evil piece of shit demon, shows up and messes it all up. Now Itadori along with one of his teachers must face off against this creature but together can they stop it?

What I feel Jujutsu has over a lot of battle manga is the way the battles flow. It's easy to follow, grand, and honestly brutal. A lot of battle mangas try TOO much and instead get cluttered. So with this volume basically being 3/4ths fighting we get to view some amazing moments. on top of that Itadori gets to grow as a character and his motivations grow as well.

The ending slows it down a lot and kind of hurts the pacing a bit. But overall, this was easily the best volume of the bunch. Give me more like this. A 4 out of 5.

Review for vol. 5 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I had watched the anime first long before I got to this volume, I like the extra-materials and the fight scenes, the author really has good black-ink linework running for them. Although, sometimes their artwork can work, but some other times the artwork doesn't. That's it.

Sukuna's moments are as awesome as always, but Nanami's cool moments are also welcoming!!!

PS: and how can we forget Sukuna and Mahito being total jerks to poor Yuuji...okay...okay...poor Yuuji as always.

PSS: and I love Jogo's comical moments and the relaxing hot spring trip the villains/curses have among themselves...

Chapter 26 TO YOU SOMEDAY
I really feel bad about Junpei. He doesn't deserve the things that happened to him. If only he knew Mahito is the reason why his life got f*cked! I also love how Yuji is just very concerned of Junpei.

Chapter 27 WHAT IF
I really don't like this part. Mahito is just the most evil of all! Junpei doesn't deserve this at all! That punch Yuji did is satisfying but not enough to kill the d*mb*ss! Mahito is just getting into my nerves a lot!

Chapter 28 I'M GONNA KILL YOU
This is such an intense fight! That part with Mahito and Sukuna is kind of satisfying. I would rather side with Sukuna (for now) than with Mahito! Also Nanami !!!!!!!

Chapter 29 GROWTH
I like it when Yuji said “I’m fine. Just got some holes in me.” as if they’re not real physical holes! Yuji is such a selfless person. I just love his character. Yes finally you have mortal enemy Mahito. Can’t wait to see you dead in maybe future chapters??? Yuji and Nanami fighting is also a good pair!

Chapter 30 SELFISHNESS
Nanami is trap! Though I like Nanami’s backstory with that girl in a bakery. It’s kind of cute actually. I also can’t imagine Nanami doing his old job. He’s just cool with being sorcerer. Also that entrance bt Yuji! Yess! He can finally save Nanami!!!! Also I should not say this but Sukuna is hot!

Chapter 31 TOMORROW
They almost got Mahito! That sneaky devil! I also feel bad about Yuji killing people. Also Nanami finally admitted that Yuji is a Jujutsu Sorcerer. That is touching!

Chapter 32 INTROSPECTION
I love Gojo’s attitude. He is fun and carefree. If you are that strong wouldn’t you be same, too? Haha. Gojo’s connecting sentences is funny. Especially when he connected Yuji’s showing up after “being” dead is gonna help save global warming. Lol. I also love how Gojo just keep going against the principal. Gojo the man.

Chapter 33 KYOTO SISTER SCHOOL GOODWILL EVENT - TEAM BATTLE, PART 0
Inumaki has a cute curse. Though he has limited words, I find it cute and unique. The principal is also a sneaky bastard telling those Kyoto student to kill Itadori! How much of a hater can you be?!

Chapter 33 KYOTO SISTER SCHOOL GOODWILL EVENT - TEAM BATTLE, PART 1
That kick from Yuji to Todo! Wohoo intense! Todo is so strong physically!

"How dare you keep stomping my head. What if I became even dumber?"

Perfect blend of emotional moments, bad-assery, and levity. Some of my general thoughts...

* Junpei deserved more. I truly was hoping for him to be brought into the group. Fucking Mahito.
* Gojo is just perfection. Full stop.
* Todo and Yuji are goals. Obsessed with their friendship.
