Charlie Rhodes #7

The Killer Clown Calamity

Rate this book
Charlie Rhodes’ life is in turmoil. Her relationship with her boyfriend Jack is going well but Casey, the newest member of the Legacy Foundation, has dropped a bombshell and Charlie feels as if things are spinning out of control. While waiting for DNA results to prove (or disprove, for that matter) Casey’s identity, the team gets called out on a weird case.

It seems sadistic clowns with magical abilities are killing people in the suburbs surrounding Nashville, and the deaths are bloody and horrible. Upon arriving on the scene, Charlie and Jack stumble across an entire cadre of clowns hanging out at the fairgrounds and the game is afoot.

Mystic Caravan Circus isn’t what it appears to be on the surface. Poet Parker, second in command for the circus, is front and center as Jack and Charlie start digging for answers. It seems both sides are keeping secrets, though, and discovering the truth isn’t going to be easy.

Charlie has always zealously guarded her supernatural secret and it seems she’s not the only one, because the moment she crosses the threshold to the circus she senses she’s surrounded by a magical group of otherworldly individuals.

Trust takes time but that’s a precious commodity as the clowns ramp up their attacks. It’s going to take everyone working together to figure out what’s happening… and who is behind it.

Poet and Charlie make a fearsome twosome but they might not be enough to take on this particular threat. Everybody hates a clown, and when this trio declares war, the horror that follows will haunt an entire city.

Charlie is determined to deal with the clowns before focusing on her personal life. She has to survive to find answers, though, and it’s going to take every ounce of power she has to come out safely on the other side.

Fear is the name of the game, and two heroes are about to collide.

I literally can't wait until the next one comes out! I love the Charlie Rhodes cozy mysteries they have become one of my favorites along with the winchesters!
So, Charlie is having a lot to deal with a possible brother and a new mystery with Clowns but these are not your average clowns! They are killer clowns with magical properties! Then there are guest from another series of Amanda M Lee! Its really neat when the series intermixed with another one! Jack despises clowns 🤡! I loved it!

Once again, was so excited to see that Amanda M. Lee had released a new book in the Charlie Rhodes series. I love almost all the series', but this one in particular is one of my favorites. It didn't disappoint, as it was a crossover story with the Mystic Caravan crew. I love reading about the characters' interactions. I had always wanted Charlie to meet Poet, because I thought they were really similar. I just knew they would become friends. Everyone got along great, and they made an awesome team when it came to fighting the newest monster - killer clowns. But what kind of monster is this? It's really confusing to them, because the clowns seem to have very strong powers that are resistant to any type of magic thrown at them. In fact, they seem to be able to deflect it. It's all very intriguing, but it's also very dangerous for all involved. Thrown into the mix is the situation with Charlie's brother, Casey - why did he show up now? He seems to have some kind of ulterior motive, and she's determined to find out what it is. Thankfully, she has people to back her up, including Poet, who happens to be pretty good at reading minds. If you haven't read this one yet, or haven't even started this series, I highly recommend it. Fantastic, as always. and I can't wait for the next installment!

Charlies most dangerous case so far.

Charlie and Jack along with the other members of the Legacy Foundation have been called in to Nashville to investigate a case where Clowns are breaking into houses and killing people. While investigating they come across a circus full of clowns. The Mystic Caravan Circus which you may know from another series written by Ms Lee. Poet, Kade, Luke and the others in the circus are aware of the clowns and what is happening in Nashville but have so far been unable to ascertain what sort of supernatural beings they are dealing with. When Charlie, Poet, Jack and Kade have a run in with the clowns the women are disheartened to discover that their powers are totally ineffective. This has never happened before Poet has faced off to innumerable supernatural enemies and never before have her powers failed her. This makes their enemy a danger they may not be able to deal with and all the while people are still dying. This is one of the best in the Charlie Rhodes series a great mysterious enemy and new allies in Poet and the circus crew. Lost a star as I felt that in the ending the clowns defeat was a bit too easy. But still a very enjoyable read.

Excellent installment

The first book I read by Amanda M. Lee was The Bigfoot Blunder. I enjoyed it so much I branched out and read her other series too, but Charlie will always have a special spot in my reading list because I met her first.

This book did not disappoint. I was skeptical about killer clowns as paranormal but the plot made sense. The story allowed us to see the Mystic Caravan crew through different eyes while solidly building more into the mystery of Charlie. We got to finally peek into her back story.

The story wrapped up happily, but it also left me with several questions anxiously awaiting the next installment. I look forward to finding out what happens next for Charlie and Jack, and I also want to know more about what happens to Laura and Harley.

Best of the Series So Far

This was a wonderful read. It managed to maintain the coziness of Jack and Charlie's relationship while ratcheting up the dramatic tension. It became so tense as the story progressed that I was almost too anxious to keep reading. I am so glad I did. This series, while achingly romantic, shows the most promise of all of the author's offerings. I am looking fully forward to the next installment.

Another great read!

I really enjoy this series and this author and this latest book is no exception! The plot moves quickly and has enough twists and turns to keep you reading until the end. The characters develop more and more from book to book. There is a ton of snark and sarcasm. The romance is enough to make anyone happy. There are visits from other favorite characters and we finally get to learn about some of the main character's history. I highly recommend this book!

Absolutely amazing!

This is a great series! One of my favorites ! A very dramatic ending leaves you excited for the next book! Ms.Lee's talent is always knowing how to plug enough snark in her books to keep you entertained while reading. I was happy to see not a single Kardashian reference in this book! I love her ability to how the. Characters from book to book which she is doing fantastically in this series.

Clown

Overall, I like the series. I like Millie, who seems to just be in the background now, sadly. I like Bernard, who barely exists, sadly. Chris and Hannah are good. Charlie is tolerable. Jack. Jack is a d*ck with a stick up his butt. He’s overbearing. He’s mean. He’s rude. He acts like he’s Charlie’s father, not her boyfriend. He’s supposed to be head of security of the group yet he only lives to protect Charlie. This is ironic seeing as she can take care of herself and does, in every book. Jack is a human, no powers. He’s a distraction in battle. This book proved it.

Jack is just Landon from the Winchester series. His way or the Highway. Treat your girlfriend like a child. Yell at her then make up. Rinse. Repeat.

If the author is going to write so many series’, why do so many of the men have to be carbon copied as far as personality.

Charlie has wanted answers her entire life. Now she just wants Jack. Can’t live without Jack. Screw everyone else, need Jack.

All the characters that keep saying ‘you guys are so cute/sweet’ need therapy. It’s codependency. It’s like reading about teenagers who have think they need to emulate Twilight to be in love. Jack is Edward. Jack is Jacob.

I’m struggling to get through these books because when I see the name ‘Jack’, I start skimming. They eat all the time. They lay in bed all the time. They argue, he’s a butthead, they make up, they eat another meal. It’s tiresome. It’s just filler. It takes so long to get into the actual mystery and solve it because they have to have 30 meals and heart to hearts in 3 days.

I’m only continuing because I want to know about her family.

Love love love Charlie Rhodes!

Amanda M Lee has done it again!! Another great story with great characters! Charlie and Jack meet up with Mystic Caravan - and Charlie and Poet are a great team! The Killer Clowns don’t stand a chance! This book has everything I expect - adventure, mystery, family, friends, and romance. Charlie has the family she’s made and those around her are there to help her along her journey. Charlie is finally getting some answers on her past and what she can do too - can’t wait for the next adventure!!

Good, but missed something for me

I will start by saying that the Charlie Rhodes series is not one of my favorite Lee series. The Charlie character is just too much of something. Juvenile? Moronic? Love-starved?

I understand you have to have some love interest, but the whole Jack and Charlie relationship just doesn’t ring true. It’s more of a teenage fantasy of what a relationship is supposed to be. Nothing comes across as real to me. Maybe that’s fair since it is a group searching for the paranormal while unknowingly having a paranormal in their midst. Each of them are naive creations and don’t seem to grow up beyond a childish representation of what each of them are. All surfaces, no depth.

I did like that we finally found out what Charlie’s genetic background is, at least so far as what her family claims. She’s obviously more then Witch, Mage or whatever else including Warlock, since that is supposed to be a male only line.

The crossover using the Mystic Caravan Circus was ok, but I feel like that is all the author is doing anymore. Crossovers between her various series. It’s getting to be extremely overdone. Just because Marvel has made it a thing, which truthfully they’ve been doing since the 60’s, and doing it better, doesn’t mean every writer has to follow in their footsteps.

I really enjoy the Mystic Caravan series, so that is the only reason I wasn’t totally put off with the story. The thunderbird mythos was an interesting angle. I feel it was explained well and in some way utilized reasonably well. I do think adding Fred and Toby to the thunderbird lineup didn’t work very well though. Yes Waya was good, but did evil things he couldn’t control after turning. That the two men just fell through the wards and were turned into thunderbirds seemed ridiculous. Waya was only turned due to a crossroads demon deal. Shouldn’t the two men have needed access to that level of magic to turn into thunderbirds as well?

I read a lot, usually the Lee books take a day or day and a half to read, which is the only reason I read the Charlie Rhodes books along with all of her other series. When you read as much as I do, sometimes you read just the ‘ehh’ stuff to fill the time, so you can occasionally be surprised with a good one. This one was not one of the better ones though, even with the unique thunderbird story. It could have been though, if the characters had a lot more depth to them.

I am all for female empowerment, but each heroine from each of the various series can’t each be the embodiment of the most powerful (insert paranormal type here). Can’t the character still be underpowered but knows how to use the power they possess to its best ability? Or research enough information so they know the villains weakness and can exploit them that way? Plus if each series has the strongest person in it, then wouldn’t the odds also create a situation where one of them may not be on the side of good and all that is right in the world? Or a villain would search them out to up their own status by taking out a super-powered do-gooder?

Also, please just get rid of Laura. Her sniping and ridiculous behavior would never stand in the real world, even in a job where her daddy got her the position, unless she worked directly under that nepotistic nightmare. She’s a ridiculous caricature of a person and after a couple exposures to her joke of a personality, it’s time to have her move on. Hostile work environment indeed, now end her.

I hate clowns.. this was a shuddering read!!

We follow Charlie and Jack and the Legacy Foundation to Nashville where some bizarre thefts and murders have taken place. The only thing security cameras have picked up is video of a crazy clown at one of the thefts.

The murders are proving hard to analyse with weird wounds at the victims necks and abnormal splatter patterns. The biggest concern for the police, however, is trying to link it to the circus that just so happens to have come to town.

Mystic Circus are also trying to work the case. So now there's three teams and some paranormal overlap as Charlie finds Poet and the motley circus crew she leads. Charlie's focus is being divided by the situation with Casey.. she's not sure what she wants to do and now Laura is accusing her of trying to steal him away because she couldn't find him Charlie wasn't with him but Laura's all about the hate! All Charlie wants is to hide away with Jack and forget about it all.

Fantastic, even though it was clowns.. coulrophobia is challenge with Mystic Circus tie ins.. we're finally uncovering more of Charlie's story and now I am desperately wanting the next book!! I hope it's coming soon!!

Roller coaster wild ride!

This series gets better with every book. Set in Nashville, my interests were piqued. I love when I have visited—or lived in as this case—cities where the books are set. Clowns are definitely creepy, and this was no exception. The history behind the mythology of the creatures was appealing and appropriate to the setting and history of Nashville. I enjoyed the introduction of the Mystic Caravan crew. I haven’t read any of their books... yet... but now I’m intrigued! With the inclusion of those characters, Millie and the rest of The Legacy Foundation team was lacking. Which is a shame. I enjoy their banter. Even though I still find Laura unredeemable. We have answers to “what” Charlie is... and why her family left her! Which is great! I look forward to the next addition in December!

Ready for the next book.

This was great. I really enjoyed it. I love the cross overs. Charlie's situation is sounding a little like Scout's so they will have a lot in common (though Scout's family were running from a different baddie.)
Harley made a flyby appearance, though Max was visiting elsewhere and was only mentioned a few times. This is a Charlie book so it was in her voice and situations. Millie didn't get to shine like her normal, but Laura had her snipish moments. Chris has a meeting planned with HR and her father and would love to see how that goes.

I really could have read a thousand pages more and still been pleased. It is always difficult to let go of this author's books even by her Lily Harper Hart name. I recommend all series under both names.

My two favorites together

I love Amanda’s work but mystic caravan and Charlie Rhodes are my two favorites besides Avery. I know there will never be a crossover there but a girl can dream lol. But back to it. This story was perfect. Constant action twists and turns. I loved the back story. Harley is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. I’d say the only note I’d make is Kades character seems flat. I also noticed it in the last mystic caravan book. I get he’s going through stuff but he’s coming off .... boring??? I can’t think of the right word but very one dimensional if that makes sense.

Amanda M Lee is a new all time favorite author. She has a way of drawing you into a book and getting your feeling involved. I can't wait to read the next one in this series. I love Charlie Rhodes and all of the other characters. I can't wait to read more of this series and how she gets other characters from other series into the mix. Can't wait to see where Charlie goes next.I have never laughed and cried reading a book as I have reading hers books. The only other Authors that have manged to do that are Nora Roberts, JD Robb, Catherine Coulter, and Richard H. Stephens. Would love to find more that can do that.

Love the series but I had a hard time finishing this.

The plot dragged through way too many descriptions of eating food. Charlie must have a great metabolism. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Chris wasn't firing Charlie and Jack since they never seemed to do any work or even appear to share what they learned with the rest of the team. And last but not least the whole reveal with Casey was way too rushed. If Charlie joined the foundation to find out about herself, why is she always putting off opportunities to get her questions answered? All in all, not my favorite addition to the series.

I’ve read a few of these. They are definitely lightweight and easily consumed. The stories are fun but Charlie Rhodes is one of the most irritating and superficial characters I have come across. She is supposed to be smart, cute and insightful. She is none of these. I stuck with the stories because they are fun. I’ve tried to ignore Charlie in I hopes that she would grow as a character and become more interesting and less irritating. It only got worse. I wish the author would spend more time developing her heroine instead of beating us over the head telling us how cute she is. JFC! I think I’m done with the whining, petulant and childish Charlie Rhodes.

“Why does it have to be clowns?”

This book was a chore to read. I was so excited at the end of the last book about Casey being Charlie’s brother. For supposedly wanting answers so badly, she just avoided getting them for most of the book. The clowns were just excessively gruesome. I definitely need to take an extended break from this series after this. The following was my favorite quote from the book:

“Nobody likes clowns,” he replied, making a face. “I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to invent clowns in the first place, but he was sick. If someone knows who did that, by the way, we should invent a time machine and go back so we can kill him.”

Another amazing story!

When Charlie, Jack, and the Legacy Foundation go to Nashville trying to find some killer clowns, their world collides with the Mystic Caravan crew. Charlie and Poet quickly become friends, much to everyone's surprise. Searching out the clowns and finding out just what is happening consumes the group.

Great storytelling, wonderful characters, an intriguing mystery and great writing makes for an excellent story that will keep you engrossed until the very end!

Clowns

So, now Charlie is involved with the Mystic Caravan.
She seems to get around in Amanda Lee’s universe pretty well.
If you are a clowns phobic thot this one should creep you out.
You do need to start Clarke with the first boot, you need the character development.
I just wish that ma favorite author would stop with the cloying sweetness around the manly men uh her ladies’ lives. It’s annoying.
Note to the Author: When does Harley get her series? She’s both memorable and badass..

We have the Legacy Foundation folks running into the Mystic Caravan crew. Mind you, neither of these series are really my favorites from the author's booklist. This book led me to realize that Charlie's boss is way more annoying than anything the Mystic Caravan can produce. Before he seemed somewhat silly but enthusiastic. This time he was downright condescending. As I was unable to pop him one in the nose, I found it necessary to skip ahead a bit. The ending was, however, quite satisfying

Loved this series until the main characters became a couple, then the main characters love interest became a neanderthal. Every human is a threat to his GF, our main character. Oh my God! They get together and he loses all intelligence and rational thought. You could overlook the character that does nothing but cause trouble and spew hateful things, even though she does NOTHING for the team. No skill, no reason to be there. I get it the author thinks it adds drama, but this... This makes it insulting to the reader. And it was such a fun series until this turn.

Loved it - this series keeps getting better with each book! This one is a cross-over with Charlie and Poet Parker and gang from the Mystic Caravan Circus series. The author always provides an entertaining read for your mind - and what's freakier than clowns? Action-packed, a little snark, some sweet romance and a few answers to the mystery surrounding Charlie's newfound brother - but is he good or bad? Looking forward to the next book!

Loved this one!!

Finally some answers about Charlie and her past, but first they must battle some killer clowns. Thankfully clowns don't bother me, but they seem to bother everyone else, especially Jack and Kade. Fun times with twists and surprises you wouldn't expect. It was fun to read of Charlie and Poet along with the rest of Mystic Caravan battling together. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book and more answers to Charlie and her past.

Clowns! Why'd it have to be clowns? Hahaha Amanda M. Lee is such a great writer. In Killer Clown Calamity she brings two of my favorite characters together. Poet Parker and Charlie Rhodes are both powerful monster hunters. They just go about it a little differently. No spoilers but the clowns are creepy and killers! Mystic Caravan and the Legacy Foundation must team up to save the people of Nashville. I say this every time (and every time it is true) this is my new favorite book.

This is a paranormal cozy mystery with a bit of romance. The author is extremely prolific in this sub-genre. She recycles a lot, but if it works for you as a formula, the quantity of content feels endless. And it's free on Kindle Unlimited. This one is literally about magical serial killer clowns in Nashville. A bit of progress is made on unraveling Charlie's birth family mystery, and the Mystic Caravan series by the same author has a significant cross-over performance in this book.

Another great read!

Once again Amanda M Lee knocked it out of the park ! This book was intense! I think more so than her other ones. Maybe it’s because of the killer clowns? Either way , this book had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning! I loved that Poet and Charlie got to meet and I see a good friendship between them. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for Charlie, Jake, Casey , and the rest of the gang in the upcoming books!

I love the way this series plays out. Learning a little bit at a time during all of the (supposedly) unrelated action is fun! Charlie is every woman, which is nice. And Jack's devotion and love of her quirks is what we all want. The fact that Charlie doesn't automatically fall into Casey's arms is awesome...one would have to be a bit suspicious, right!? And I ADORE that Amanda likes to do crossovers with her series. That is how I got into this specific series to begin with!
