One girl, innocent and a little naive, but I'm learning quickly how to survive.
Two men, both set on destroying the other for reasons I can't begin to understand.
Three kisses, the one that sealed my fate, the one that sealed his fate, and the one that will cement both of them forever.
Four friends who would die for him.
Five seconds to figure out how to get out of this alive.
Six. The devils number. I don't believe that anymore. A devil would never settle for a single number.
A devil would take them all.
Conclusion to the original Tormented. Absolutely no cliffhangers! Please note this is a DARK bully romance intended for mature audiences and may contain content that some readers may find uncomfortable.
Esme is a Scottish romance author who writes books about demanding and possessive alpha-heros. Or anti-heros, when the mood takes her. They're usually gruff and hard, but that is until they meet the women who bring them to their knees.
In her spare time Esme writes sci-fi romance and sometimes remembers to eat. She's a mum of two very fiesty heroines and a wolf-hybrid, and she lives with her very own highlander-husband who she is trying to convince to do her audiobooks ;-)
Tormented part 2 was a good follow up to the first book but I felt it somewhat lost its intensity after book 1. I didn't feel Lacey and Shaun's connection in the last half of the book as she was so busy distrusting him vs. staying in the same location as him. It was frustrating. Overall, while this wasn't my favorite book from this author, I have read three books from her back to back and can't wait for more! 3.5 stars! ~Ratula
I've read my fair share of HS bully romances, but this one...this one is just so very different. It takes place in Scotland, but there's not so much dialect or odd words, for us American readers, that it feels odd for us. In fact, the way it's done makes it quite interesting. Like most of the HS bully romances, there's a power struggle. This one is not just with our very strong-minded, confident heroin Lacey, but with powerful families that divide this tiny town mining town. There's some very bad boys walking these halls, some redeemable...some not so much.
Like HS romance, but especially those that satisfy our darker sides, then this one is for you. I couldn't stop thinking about it and was anxious to get back to reading when work, sleep and those adulting things got in the way.
It wasn’t the book, it was me. I have read so many bully romance in the past couple of months that I got bored it the middle. Will come back to this genre after some time.
After I read the ending in the first book, I thought this was going in a different direction. I was wrong! This story got so much better, and Shaun is a psychopath. All be it, he is a charming nut. Lacey is a lot stronger than you can imagine. This family, this town us so full if secrets that can get anyone killed. If Lacey and Shaun can survive those secrets, do they have a chance for more?
I liked this book. It was a good ending to the duet. I like how Lacy gets her own power at the end. The best part wasn't the most important but I enjoyed grandmother's role in the plot and the multi generations of women working around the rules of power
This was a great follow up of the first book of connection between lace and Shaun. I felt like Lace realky didn't put up much of a fight like she did in the first book. But in all really great book
Oh my , I adored this duet and recommend it to everyone.
I loved this book so much and I couldn't put it down as I became fully invested in Shaun and Lacey life . I adored all the characters but would love a book about Calvin and Stevie . Overall this author is super talented and I will definitely be reading more of her books .
Still really enjoyed this sequel and I’m guessing conclusion to Shaun and Lacey’s story, but at times I was rolling my eyes 👀. It didn’t have the same moody ambiance or the same tension. It seemed like the glue was coming undone along the seams holding this story together. I’m not 100% sure, but the writing style seemed different as well. At times it felt a bit grating in how Lacey was so naive. I had to remind myself that she’s never had to deal with a town like this before and a secret that’s decades if not a hundred years old. But the drama between the Keagans and the McGuinness’ was just far fetched and didn’t really hold up. This author had a lot going on, but it didn’t really feel complete. At one point I thought this was going to go on for another installment because I wasn’t sure how she could make this all come together. It seemed rushed. The plot was all over the place. Despite all my misgivings I still enjoyed this. I love Shaun. Lacey was ok. Liam was a pathetic antagonist and Shaun deserved a more worthy adversary. I’m really proud of myself for not giving any spoilers away. It’s not as strong as the first installment, but it’s a good conclusion. Just wish it was longer and had an epilogue from Shaun’s POV.
The previous book ended, Lacey told Shaun that she was marrying Liam, but not for love, but to torture Shaun Shaun is angry and does everything to stop this marriage from happening. This relationship was weird, not like couples who are in love, but there was such a cold, anger between them all the time until it is too late to change anything or they can still change it 😢
I don't know what to say about this book I expected more than that When I read it, I had no sense of positivity, the book is full of so much hate humiliation pain torture abuse secrets lies Story told Lacey and Shaun point of view
An amazing ride! I was pleasantly surprised by this novel jewel. Esme takes you on an incredible ride and you’re holding onto your seat til the very last word.
I am going to check out her other novels because this was a really great read. It would be nice to see what has become of Lacey and Shaun six or seven years later with their brood of younglings and a new threat to their diamond empire.
That would be cool to see and also how Stevie and Calvin, Doeboy and Scoot have all grown. Just a thought. 😊
It's safe to say I was disappointed with this book. Especially compared to the first. Lacey is insufferable in this book. She ruined the story for me, and I didn't grow to like her until the last couple chapters. There was something off about this book. There was too much going on them everything was wrapped up really quickly. Just everything about it was off. I liked the concept and I still loved Shaun, but that wasn't enough for me. I will look into Devlin's other work, but won't ever re-read this series again, and honestly don't recommend it.
This is well written duel series. I fell in love with Lacy and Shaun. I think they bring a new meaning to love and hate. The book has a good plot and the side characters definitely bring depth and mystery. I loved The quirky humour and fiery personalities. ***Unexpected but charming It’s an enjoyable read with a kick ass heroine with strong mind and sharp wit. The story is straight forward with darkness to its mysteries. The cliffhanger has left reeling for more.
I loved the setting for this series. The small town, two family rivalry, the tyrannical father etc. The downfall for me was never really joining team Shaun. Whilst his internal monologue conveyed more substantial feelings for Lacey, his action certainly did not. I'm not sure how you can believe in a HEA when she genuinely wasn't sure whether he would let her die or not. Even though he wanted to stand up to his Dad, he never won any of those confrontations and she just went along for the ride, taking his word for everything all the while hating him. It was weird and a little lacking.
I loved this book! It was great to see by th main characters progress and move forward and read the list turn into true and the storyline was great well written and can honestly say that the authors was right in her end notes I loved the realistic Scottish slang and can't wait to read more from this author can honestly say I could carry on reading about where they go from here would be amazing. Well done Esme you have a reader for life x
First off let me say wow what a ride! I can definitely say that losing sleep was totally worth it. My husband asked me many times what I'd be laughing at or what had me chewing my nails. Anyways thank you for this series and can't wait to read more of your books!!
When Tormented PT 1 ended I was so worried with what will happen next, but I am so happy with the conclusion of the story. It was complete opposite of what I was expecting. I do feel like it was a little rushed and as always when you’re invested in the story you always want a little more. But overall I did enjoy the story as a whole.
Reading it in your head during the monologue changes to Shaun, you can imagine the sexiness. Accents always make hot men even sexier. I love the darkness in this book and how you finally see Lacey grow into her own unique spin for herself. Women only let men think their in control lol
This continues with the messed up romance, if you can call it that, with Lacey and Shaun. Mental. I love the Scottish bantering and humor. This book wasn't as good as the first. I just wish Liam was a better villian, it was too easy. I didn't care much for how it ended. It seemed like the author just wanted to be done. Overall, okay book.
It was okay. I still have a couple questions that I won't get because that was the conclusion so that's my biggest complaint. I did enjoy the first book more, but still glad I read it.
To a perfect story. I'm a huge fan of tormented. Ugh it's so yummy!! I fuckinglove Shaun and I love Lace and all the characters. I'm in love. Shes a great author and all her steamy scenes! Dang they're good! Cant wait to see what else Esme brings!!!
Shaun stole the show in this book. His love was real and raw. Glad we got to see a wee bit more of Calvin and Stevie. I wish the ending was a bit different but overall happy their love remained.
This book felt like an after thought compared to book 1. And I don’t consider this to have a HEA. They don’t even tell each other they love one another. There’s a ton of typos/spelling error & at the end she says she’s single so wtf ???? Disappointed.
Esme is an amazing writer and had me gripped from the beginning. Love the way she writes and really wish there was more to the series so I could read more about the characters.
Love this series! The characters are so deep and well thought out and hot! Even when you're mad you're still rooting for him. I need more of Esme Devlin books!
Loved this book!! OK Shaun is cray cray!! Chaining Lacey in the basement?! Wtf! But I did love to see their relationship grow and love the chemistry between them! That ending, what a turn of events but it was the best ending!!
