Re-read 2023 - This is a great volume because that let's us say goodbye to one of the heroes. With the big fight shifting between multiple characters, and some amazing looking ones that'll be great to see animated.

Damn this was a great fucking volume too. Got the end of the last fight which is a lot more depressing than expected, have our lightning boy not playing around anymore, and Giyu and Tanjiro working together to kill one of the strongest demons ever. In other words, this volume is fantastic and I can't say much more without spoilers. A 5 out of 5.

This was a great volume and has the death of a Hashira and her passing away only motivates others as they affirm their attacks and fight the demons, Zenitsu has a great moment where he confronts his old pal Kaigaku ad fights him and we get their history and the epic fight and finally we have Tanjiro and Giyu fighting Lord Akaza and their fight is epic, we see Tanjiro and his history with his father, control over Hinokami Kagura and the whole sequence is so well done showing personal growth, using strategies, battle prowess and an evolution in his character.

This volume has everything from fast paced fights to character moments and deep philosophical arguments and eve serves to encourage readers in some way like it does with Tanjiro. This arc is getting more and more epic and I can't wait for future volume and what lies further ahead! The art is fricking goregous!!

The start of the final arc begins here!

The Hashira and the rest of the Demon Slayer Corps start their siege of Muzan's stronghold, the Infinity Castle. The Corps pick the right time when all of the remaining Upper Moon demons and Muzan are in the castle.

First up is Shinobu against Upper-Rank 2 demon Doma, and with her poison-based skills, the demon is a bad match up for her. He's also the demon who killed her sister. This is the fight she's been training for her entire life. She's prepared for any outcome.

TW// murder, mentions of death (including children, sisters, parents), violence, suicide

There is a lot going on in this volume. There’s three battles with upper rank demons, multiple backstories to different characters, and tons of other plotlines involving minor side characters. It’s a lot to keep track of, but I still found myself enjoying this volume.

I loved getting to see Zenitsu develop more as a character. He’s been generally weak (except for when he’s sleeping) in the previous volumes, but his character takes a turn for the better in this volume when he comes face to face with somoene from his past. Their battle was quick but really well written and it was entertaining to see the two of them clash.

The story’s starting to feel a little dragged out at this point tbh, I’m still enjoying it and it’s fun to read but I feel it coulda been condensed a few vols! Some parts were a little confusing too.

It continues the intense battle in the Infinity Castle, where every page is brimming with high-stakes action and emotional depth.

Gotouge expertly balances the fast-paced combat with meaningful character development. The artwork remains top-notch, capturing the fluidity of the fights and the raw emotions of the characters.

This volume is crucial as it delves into the backstories of some of the series' most compelling characters, adding layers to the ongoing narrative. The pacing is relentless, making it a quick yet satisfying read.

Aaaand so begins the death count for the Hashira. Fucking dammit, I don't want them to die! But realistically I know that at least some of them will die, but fuck realism I want my babies to live!!

I can say one thing with absolute certainty-I can't FUCKING WAIT for them to animate this final arc. All of the fights are going to look so fucking cool and badass, it's gonna be a feast for the eyes!

I was a little disappointed that Zenitsu's fight was so short, but the character development, backstory, and glow up we got in return was well fucking worth it. And yes, I did cry at his near death experience, might as well get used to it cuz I'll be crying a lot during this arc.

Giyu and Tanjiro's fight is so intense yet so fast paced, I already want to reread the volume so that I can stop and appreciate it more. The action is spot on and I love the combination of water breathing and hinokami kagura, it's beautiful, elegant, and powerful. The flashbacks Tanjiro had regarding his father were interesting as well. It's a shame he passed away before the series began, I would have liked to have seen him more in the present.

Needless to say, this arc is not gonna let up and the intensity is only going to increase as it goes on. I'm looking forward to reading more, but at the same time anxious for what's to come...

As the final battle dawns closer, the overall intensity has increased to a great extent, the stakes are higher and there aren't any time for jokes now. These final volumes also set the prime example of a fictional story inspiring real people, as the characters struggle to make things right despite huge odds.

Gorgeous. I love it when a good manga manages to get deeper, not just emotionally, but even slightly metaphysical without being simplistic. This volume manages to just inch us forward in that perfect tiny way.

These fights are beautiful.

Zenitsu makes me smile because his character is likeable and developing so nicely! I refuse to believe Kocho is dead. Nope. No damn way!

The pseudo biology in this manga always makes me laugh. Opening and closing blood vessels at will? Okay, girl, I’ll suspend my disbelief for now.

Shinobu is in a fierce battle with one of her greatest enemies, Doma (Upper Rank 2). He is responsible for the death of a person Shinobu greatly loved. As Shinobu gets more and more injured, as hope of someone aiding her starts to fade. Kanao races towards her master in fear that she might be too late. Tanjiro and Giyu fight fiercely against Akaza, yet he possesses a technique that they do not . . . an ability to anticipate moves like no other. As Tanjiro recalls a precious memory, he hopes to tap into the skill that Akaza uses. Zenitsu faces a demon who played an important part in his past.

This arc is only getting more hilarious and devasting. Fantastic story: Demon Slayer style!
😭Shinobu is such a good character. . . may she be immortalized in my memory! I am impressed by the level of character building given to Shinobu in the past two volumes. Getting to learn more about her was such a eye-opener. Shinobu isn't as physically strong as the other Hashira, yet within her lies such a force to be reckoned with.

Kanao was given some amazing moments in this volume, and Tanjiro has really helped her crack out of her shell. Tanjiro and Giyu were quite the duo . . . I adored how they worked together. Its so sweet how Tanjiro is constantly amazed at the talent of everyone around him and is so encouraging! Demon Slayer has shown how several characters have all experienced some pain in their lives and dealt with it differently. I love how Tanjiro didn't allow his trauma to turn him into a coldhearted possessive jerk. Instead, he is constantly advocating for the well-being of those around him.

-Zenitsu to Kaigaku

Koyoharu Gotouge makes sure to never forget that Tanjiro's past is a part of him. The pain that Tanjiro experienced is what has made him the person he is. I love how he was able to grow from his hurt but hasn't chosen to separate his pain from his character. There are moments when Tanjiro can't hold his rage in any more and his anger breaks through.

-Sakonji Urokodaki

Zenitsu has so far been reduced to a more comedic relief character until now. The insight into his character was necessary and well needed. To learn that his sometimes cowardly and fearful reactions have sprouted from a past of inferiority and endurance. His dynamic with his opponent was filled with such emotional tension, and Zenitsu is a character I have grown to deeply appreciate.

"𝚂𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚠𝚑𝚘 𝚗𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚜 𝚝𝚘 𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚜 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚍𝚊𝚢 𝚋𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚞𝚗𝚊𝚋𝚕𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚛𝚎𝚌𝚎𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚊𝚗𝚢𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚏𝚛𝚘𝚖 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚖. 𝙾𝚗𝚕𝚢 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚒𝚜, 𝚒𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚎𝚗𝚍, 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚜𝚊𝚖𝚎 𝚊𝚜 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚗𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 . . . 𝚋𝚎𝚌𝚊𝚞𝚜𝚎 𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚒𝚜 𝚞𝚗𝚊𝚋𝚕𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚌𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚎 𝚊𝚗𝚢𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐."
-Yushiro

The flashback of Tanjiro's moment with his father was so precious! I love the wisdom that the "master figures" in a character's life bestow. The past isn't revealed to the readers in a linear way but distributed in random order. I've heard from many that Demon Slayer Volume eighteen is one of the best, so I'm excited to get to that.

"𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚘𝚗𝚐 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚝𝚎𝚌𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚠𝚎𝚊𝚔. 𝚃𝚑𝚎𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚠𝚎𝚊𝚔 𝚐𝚎𝚝 𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚘𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚛 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚑𝚎𝚕𝚙 𝚝𝚑𝚘𝚜𝚎 𝚠𝚎𝚊𝚔𝚎𝚛 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚖𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚟𝚎𝚜. 𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚜 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚕𝚊𝚠 𝚘𝚏 𝚗𝚊𝚝𝚞𝚛𝚎."

I need to stop saying who my favorite characters are in things because EVERY TIME those characters end up biting it. (T_T) It happened back in Vol. 8, and now in this volume, and it's probably going to happen AGAIN...my poor heart can't take much more of this...I literally have no idea who is going to come out of this alive and it's stressing me tf out. All I can say now is that if Inosuke ends up dying I really just might have to never read a book again.
Anyways this volume went hard and I loved it and I'm ready to keep binge reading the next few final books!
