I have so much love for this book and couple ♡ ♡ ♡ - still 4 years later....
UPDATE April 2020: Loved my re-read. It's still a 5 star book for me!

A true sequel is never an easy thing to do. As a reader, I often feel like a great book can/should stand on its own, and doesn’t need a sequel. But then there is a couple like Jonah and Calla, where one book is just not enough for me – I want more. And this time I actually got MORE.
I’m happy to say that the author couldn’t have written a more perfect sequel for this couple.
It had everything I wanted, and needed. More relationship growth between the main couple, an even stronger connection and the same wonderful chemistry between Jonah and Calla. Jonah’s trademark bluntness, and Calla’s need for making friends. This book was written for all the fans of Calla and Jonah.
It’s a feel good novel. Located in a picturesque area of Alaska. It’s the Alaska we all dream of and wanting to visit. A log cabin on a lake. A great group of friends. Grumpy and nosey/pushy neighbors that become amazing supporting characters, and of course some adorable animals.
I’m telling you, this book had it ALL!!! At least all the things I enjoy in a romance. A story that keeps me smiling, grinning, and laughing and NO tears this time.
I loved how the book was filled with growth, personal as well as relationship growth. The story was filled with new and old friendships. The focus was on friendships and family, building something new, and finding a happy place. In the end Wild at Heart is a bit more light hearted, and less emotional than TSW, but I think Calla deserves that after everything she went through in book one.
For me, this novel was a feel good book from start to finish. And in the end, I was left with a feeling of wanting even more books about Calla, Jonah and their Alaska adventure.

Calla and Jonah move to their own piece of paradise in a small Alaskan town. It’s perfect for Jonah. It has an airstrip, it’s in the state he loves, and he’s with the love of his life. He couldn’t ask for more. Things aren’t as easy for Calla, at least not at first. Alaska is not where she saw herself, but she can’t see herself without Jonah so it’s an easy choice.
I loved the setting of this book. The new cast of characters introduced were amazing. Each one had so much to contribute to the story, and played an important part. This story made me laugh, made me cry, and made me smile so big. I truly felt for Calla and admired her for all she went through. Her life is a far cry from how it was in the first book, but she takes it in stride.
This book had so much growth in it. I loved watching Calla change and grow. I loved seeing how real she was and watching her and Jonah’s relationship go through hurdles, but only strengthen with time and dedication. This couple is so in love and truly meant for one another. This truly was the kind of sequel we never knew we needed.
KA Tucker is an incredible storyteller and reading this book made me feel like I was there in Alaska with Calla and Jonah. This story is a romance, it’s an adventure, and it’s flawless. I adored every page and can’t recommend it enough.
I fell in love with a sky cowboy from Alaska.The Simple Wild was one of my favorite romances of 2018 and when I heard there was a sequel coming out, I was thrilled. I couldn’t wait to get more Calla and Jonah and I hoped I would love it as much as the first. Well, I did. It was different than the first book in a lot of ways, but I loved revisiting the characters we know and love as well as meeting some new ones.

there are some books where you fall in love with the characters, other novels where the plot really excels, and some stories where you just adore the writing. but then there are books you pick up and cant help but become enamoured by the setting, and this book/series has done that for me.
i really love how i felt like i was truly living and breathing in a sleepy old alaskan village with calla and jonah. i felt the love for the simple quaintness of the terrain and felt the struggles of bordem and displacement from society. it made me want to move there in a heartbeat, but then question my sanity. lol.
and although i do have a soft spot for the setting of the story, i did enjoy reading about callas realisation that home doesnt have to be a place, but can be a person. the old romantic in me has always believed in this idea, so it was nice to see a character believe in it, as well.
overall, a great follow up novel. i dont think there will be a third book, but who knows. a girl can hope.

For a reader who thrives on reading a romance heavy and plot driven story, this book was too domesticated for my liking. Gone was all that enemies to lovers dynamic and angst we had in the previous book. In its place was Calla’s constant whining and self doubting. I didn’t mean to discredit her feelings because—while I might not have moved across countries in pursuit of something I love—I know personally how hard and daunting it can be starting over in a new place where no one recognizes you. Unfortunately, in this case, Calla was really testing my patience.
Throughout the majority of the book, we followed her doing all kinds of mundane things from shopping to cooking, decorating the house, and gardening. One of the reasons I love reading small town romances or any kind that is set in mother nature or the wilderness is the cosy atmosphere and domestic scene I get to see from the book. While this book sure had plenty of that, it was the fact that Jonah was never around a lot enough to do those things with Calla that dampened my mood. I wanted Barbie and the Yeti to play house together!
That being said, this book felt more like a women’s fiction than a romance. Under different circumstances, I might’ve loved it. However, I was under the impression that this was supposed to be a continuation. And by that, I was expecting Jonah and Calla’s story TOGETHER and not just Calla riding her second rodeo in Alaska SOLO. Instead of leaving me in a puddle of emotional mess, this sequel was just plain boring. It took me almost a week to finish and I had to constantly fight the urge to skip the pages.
Now the way I look at it, this journey that Calla took didn’t seem to end with her growing as her own person who hasn’t lost her sense of self in the love that she has for Jonah. I mean, we did see her learn to accept, embrace, and love her new home, but we never saw her truly find the one thing or a passion that would genuinely make her happy. How convinced are you that she wouldn’t immediately fly back to Toronto if things didn’t work out down the road? I feel like she hasn’t reached that point where she might’ve moved to Alaska for Jonah but she’d stay because it was her home and where she belonged.

The Simple Wild was one of my favorite reads of 2018 and dare I say, it even dethroned my previous favorite K. A. Tucker and took its spot. I was literally shoving The Simple Wild into everyone's face and yelling at them to read it because I loved it that much. So when Tucker announced that Jonah and Calla would be getting a sequel, I was hyped as fuck! Unfortunately, Wild at Heart did not live up to my expectations like I hoped it would. This book focused more on Calla rather than Jonah and Calla together. I mean, Jonah spends most of the book flying all over Alaska and it wasn't until Calla decided to lose her shit at 80% (which required liquid courage for her to do so) did we see the romance start to play an active role in the storyline. The resolution to the conflict was basically a replay of the ending for The Simple Wild which infuriated me because it made me question what even was the point of this sequel in the first place!
So while Wild at Heart left little to be desired when it came to the romance, I did enjoy the storylines for a few of the secondary characters, especially Roy who is a grump of a bastard that somehow also has a heart of gold. Even though this sequel was kind of a bust for me, I still adore Calla and Jonah and The Simple Wild is still my favorite book by Tucker. I will say that Forever Wild, the holiday novella that completes Jonah and Calla's story, does make up for my disappointment with Wild at Heart so I definitely still recommend picking up this series. I'm excited to see who else gets a book in this series and I can't wait to be back in this world soon!

This book is very different from the Simple Wild as in its about a relationship. The simple Wild was amazing because it had such angsty buildup and that hate to love romance we all love.
Wild at Heart is all about Calla & Jonahs relationship. How they have to compromise for each other, learn how to navigate a relationship.
I loved how they handled themselves and how mature they were about their love and their life.
So yes less steamy and adult times but so much character and relationship growth and I adored every aspect of it!

4 ‘The Yeti’ stars
Why am I still here and haven’t yet taken that trip to Alaska?
Oh wait, I know! I’m still a broke college girl!
So the main question here, was this book necessary? Not really. Was it great with an amazing plot? Not really. Did I like it anyway? Yes. Why? I Don’t Know. I just did.
I’ll try to explain it. You know when you’ve been obsessed with a TV show and then they announce that it’s the final season, so you watch it, but you realize that it’s not really as good as the first season, but you end up loving it anyway because you’re attracted to those characters and the setting. So it kind of feels like you’re living on the memory of that first season? That’s how reading this book feels like.
"I can't remember what it feels like not being in love with you, Calla...I need you in my life like I need to fly. Like I need this Alaskan air. More than I need this air."
This was a really good book. Not as great as the first one, but still really good. It was really slow at some parts and it dragged sometimes tho. It kind of felt more like a woman’s fiction than a romance, but that didn’t bother me much. I loved seeing those characters develop and grow and how’s their life gonna be after their HEA and after taking some big decisions. It just felt like you’re reading about their life. They’re real and you’re reading about what’s going on with their life. All of the characters felt so real. I loved the side characters and how they felt like one big family. And I really loved the setting. This book was so heartwarming and atmospheric. And I’m dying to visit Alaska, I’m not kidding.
But that’s who he is. He’ll always be wild at heart, and there is no way to tame or change him.

Ah, there's nothing quite like the feeling when the sequel of a book you loved is just as good as its predecessor!
Calla and Josh, the couple at the core of K.A. Tucker’s excellent The Simple Wild (one of my favorite books from last year), are back. After returning home to her sheltered life in Toronto, full of the creature comforts she missed while in Alaska, Calla realizes she’s miserable without Josh. The burly bush pilot feels the same way about her, and comes to Canada to tell her he’d do anything to be with her, even if it meant having to leave Alaska.
Recognizing Josh is only happy when he’s flying, and despite his promise, the fact is, Alaska is his home, she decides to make a life with him there, and start a charter airline company. Their love is intense, but is it strong enough to survive not just the elements, but the time alone Calla must endure, the doubts about their relationship, and Calla’s uncertainty about whether this is the life for her? They buy a log cabin in the woods and Calla works hard to make it a home, but is it the home she wants?
"Am I happy here? I’m happy with Jonah. I love him in a way I didn’t think existed—wholly and resolutely. But am I happy here, in my life? Or have I been fooling myself into thinking that one morning I’ll wake up and things that feel foreign and temporary will finally feel like home?"
Wild at Heart is really a great romance, full of emotion and steaminess and some memorable characters, just like the first book. (Although I missed Agnes and Mabel not being a large part of this book.) The book explores issues of doubt, trust, grief, friendship, self-esteem, communication, and passion, set against the magically mercurial backdrop of Alaska.
While you might be able to read Wild at Heart without having read The Simple Wild , I wouldn't recommend it. First of all, you'll miss all of the backstory, which will help you understand what makes these characters tick, but more importantly, it's a pretty terrific book on its own!

5 "Simply Wonderful" stars.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Such an "entirely" perfect sequel to one of my "all-time" favorite books. It embodied everything that was so special and fascinating about "The Simple Wild" and it was just as wildly entertaining and equally wonderful to read as well.
I simply loved everything about this storyline. A fainting goat, wolf-dogs, bears, wild and wacky characters - especially Muriel and the "Curmudgeon". A fun, emotional, well written and also less bittersweet read than TSW but with all the heart and sincerity of that other amazing book.
Now all my doubts about reading this sequel seem so idiotic and really what sane person wouldn't want more of Calla, Jonah and the beauty that is the Alaskan wilderness (which Ms. Tucker captures perfectly with her beautiful and descriptive writing sensibilities)..........it was a totally sublime read!!!!!
The ending left me happy and "beaming". I think after this, that Calla and Jonah have to be one of my most favorite book-couples ever.
K.A. Tucker totally did us proud with this superb sequel that concluded with all the promise and possibilities of her previous book and dare I even say.... asking for more- not an easy task at all IMO......so I give kudos and also say "bravo" to this extremely talented author.
I really cannot wait to reread both these books again sometime soon!!!! I am on such a book high at this very moment, that I can hardly contain my excitement!!!......this was so absolutely delicious!!!!

The first book (The Simple Wild) was so absolutely perfect for me(5+++stars) and I loved where the story and the characters left off. So many wonderful possibilities for the reader to imagine!
So my dilemma NOW is:
Do I NOT read this and therefore avoid the possibility that I might not enjoy the outcomes or storyline in book 2 as much book 1
or.....
Do I take a chance on reading this and doubling my "satisfaction"!!!!
I DON'T WANT TO BE LET DOWN!!!
Such an "entirely" perfect sequel to one of my "all-time" favorite books. It embodied everything that was so special and fascinating about "The Simple Wild" and it was just as wildly entertaining and equally wonderful to read as well.
I simply loved everything about this storyline. A fainting goat, wolf-dogs, bears, wild and wacky characters - especially Muriel and the "Curmudgeon". A fun, emotional, well written and also less bittersweet read than TSW but with all the heart and sincerity of that other amazing book.
Now all my doubts about reading this sequel seem so idiotic and really what sane person wouldn't want more of Calla, Jonah and the beauty that is the Alaskan wilderness (which Ms. Tucker captures perfectly with her beautiful and descriptive writing sensibilities)..........it was a totally sublime read!!!!!
The ending left me happy and "beaming". I think after this, that Calla and Jonah have to be one of my most favorite book-couples ever.
K.A. Tucker totally did us proud with this superb sequel that concluded with all the promise and possibilities of her previous book and dare I even say.... asking for more- not an easy task at all IMO......so I give kudos and also say "bravo" to this extremely talented author.
I really cannot wait to reread both these books again sometime soon!!!! I am on such a book high at this very moment, that I can hardly contain my excitement!!!......this was so absolutely delicious!!!!

The first book (The Simple Wild) was so absolutely perfect for me(5+++stars) and I loved where the story and the characters left off. So many wonderful possibilities for the reader to imagine!
So my dilemma NOW is:
Do I NOT read this and therefore avoid the possibility that I might not enjoy the outcomes or storyline in book 2 as much book 1
or.....
Do I take a chance on reading this and doubling my "satisfaction"!!!!
I DON'T WANT TO BE LET DOWN!!!

I feel bereft now that I’ve finished WILD AT HEART. Seriously, I could get lost for many more hours in Calla and Jonah’s Alaskan world. THE SIMPLE WILD is one of my favorite books and K.A. Tucker achieves the monumental task of offering readers a sequel to rival its predecessor. Calla hasn’t lost her quick wit—in fact she’s sharper and wittier than ever— and Jonah is as funny and swoon-worthy as always. Together their chemistry is palpable!
While part of the beauty of TSW was watching Calla change and grow during her time in Bangor, that growth is the absolute soul of WILD AT HEART. I was fully engrossed in her journey to find herself and her place in her new community. It truly felt like I was there cheering on a friend during her successes and hurting for her during the darker times of the transition to a permanent life in Alaska. It was so fun to watch her positively impact the lives of the people around her without even realizing her effect.
And not only are the heroine and hero as engaging as ever, but the secondary characters and new additions to this world are superbly drawn. I grew to care about them so much and relish their time on the page.
This is not just a beautifully written romance about what happens after you find happily ever after— this is women’s fiction at its finest.
A funny, emotional, authentic, heartwarming, stunning romance that will forever sit on my favorites’ shelf.

4 The sequel you never knew you needed stars!
It was just wonderful to delve into Jonah & Calla’s world as a bona fide couple. To witness their love, their struggles and their growth both as people and in their relationship. It was like catching up with old friends and then living with them as they came into their own in their relationship - we had front row seats to it all. Pass me the popcorn because I was 100% in for this.
Tucker is so good at weaving in amazing side characters! From crotchety old men and overbearing older women neighbors to goats, raccoons and wolf dogs with heart. I loved them all! The eclectic members of this community were so fun and had so much heart. It's hard not to fall for them. 🥰
Though the The Simple Wild remains my favorite this one definitely upped the steam factor which I 100% appreciated - I mean 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘹𝘺 𝘈𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘬𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘸𝘣𝘰𝘺🔥! But, what I really enjoyed most about this sequel was Calla’s growth. She was a force to be reckoned with as she came into her own in the Alaskan Wild. There were some missteps along the way but she came out stronger and more self assured in the end. I loved that. As for Jonah - don't fret, he was as swoon worthy as ever. Honestly, I don't know if K.A. Tucker knew what she was doing or too many readers have been asking for a Calla & Jonah sequel because the ending of The Simple Wild was too open, and Miss Tucker succumb to all the pressure, but Wild at Heart was a mess.
I'd like to apologize to The Simple Wild for calling it Women's fiction instead of romance, my mistake. Wild at Heart IS Women's fiction.
♡ the setting ♡
I loved the whole Alaska experience in the first book. And I still liked it in this book, but it's like the honeymoon phase is over and things are getting a bit stale. Love me some more Alaskian life, but not for 400 pages. It get's repetitive and boring.
♡ the characters ♡
You know how I said Calla was acting like a spoiled princess at the beginning of The Simple Wild, but it didn't annoy me so much because I would be worse.. well, I changed my mind, cause Calla was so DAMN annoying! There is a reason why most people don't move across country to the wildlife, just because some guy shows up at your doorstep and spends 4 days with you. Calla didn't plan or think clearly about the move and it fucking shows..
Calla was really not happy and was just dragged around by one person from one point to another, doing things she has no idea how to do and that's all by herself. Hearing Calla complain and whine , it really wasn't needed. It was like all the development she made in TSW disappeared and she had to start from zero in this book again. Calla was so hellbent on NOT repeating her mother's mistakes that she did exactly that.
I still like Jonah and have nothing bad to say about him, but only because he wasn't really much in this book. He was gone most of the time and when he was with Calla, he had to talk her down from whatever shitshow she experienced on that day.
Besides Calla and Jonah, I only cared about the previous characters and they were not really featured, cause they had to make space for new characters. I missed Mabel and Agnes, I missed Susan and Simon. I didn't care about Toby, Muriel or any of the other people that were introduced in this book. I enjoyed Calla and Roy's relationship and how she managed to slowly break down his wall, but that's it.

Isn't there anything better than couples doing domestic mundane things? That's what I thought until I read this book.
I would have liked it more if Calla and Jonah would have done half the things in this book together instead of Jonah going off to work all the time, leaving Calla alone in their new house not knowing how to adjust to all the changes. Instead she gets dragged by Muriel to garden, pick strawberries (she doesn't even eat them), milk goats (she hates goats) all on her own. If Calla had done all that with Jonah, I think it would been fun to read, but Calla doing it on her own or with Muriel, hating every second of it? Nah, not so much.
So when Callajonah have a scene together, Calla pretty much just complains about her fear of bears, earthquakes, mosquitos and almost everything living roaming in Alaska. Lets not forget, if she's not complaining, she spending all her time buying furniture for their home and then Jonah an d Calla fight about if it's okay to buy a 3000$ chandelier… raise a hand if you care.
I really missed their bickering, one of the highlights from the first book. When I said I wanted domestic couple scenes, I didn't mean seeing them fight all the time. 😬

The first 15% of Wild at Heart were really enjoyable. Jonah and Calla were settling in, finding a new job and had some very cute moments together. But after that with each chapter it got worse and worse, because it was filled with unnessecary plots like Calla shopping for furniture mostly and even more unnessecary drama just for the sake of drama. Nothing really interesting happens until the very end.
And then at 96%, I kid you not, //spoilers// Jonah gets into an plane accident a la 50 shades of grey andAnastasia Calla is sick to her stomach and thinks Jonah is dead. I repeat at NINTY SIX PERCENT of the book, N-I-N-T-Y S-I-X. I never wanted to DNF a book 96% into the book as I have with this one. I can't. What was the freaking point? Instead of putting that damn accident somewhere in the middle, cause at least something interesting would happen then and it would create some 'angst', but with four percent left? Thank you, I'm done, it's time to leave the Alaskian winter.
While it wasn't completely bad, it was still a huge letdown compared to the first book and I'd rather pretend that Wild at Heart didn't exist. The Simple Wild is a standalone in my mind. ☺️

Wild at Heart was one of my most anticipated books and when I got it I started immidiately!I devour it, even though I tried to read it slow it was so good that I couldn't get enough of Calla and Jonah!Such a beautiful , heartwarming and sweet story!
I was swooning and melting from the beginning and I have a smile on my face!Everything felt so realistic and I could feel like I was a part of their story.I could imagine the places !
Wild at Heart has a little bit of everything romance,feelings and drama!I loved the relationship between Calla and Jonah .They have a great connection and chemistry!They were sweet,sexy and cute.
Their story is so addictive. I wish I could travel and go to Alaska right now!I highly recommend it!

I absolutely LOVED The Simple Wild and all of the angst between Calla and Jonah. Enemies to lovers romances are my favorite and that combined with Calla reconnecting with her father made me an emotional mess. I could not wait to see how their story would continue in this book!
While we got angst and enemies in book one, this book was just....domestic? And I didn't care. We get half of this book about Calla shopping for furniture for her house. Seriously? There was not a lot of the angsty romance I wanted and I really started not to like Calla. She complained the whole time, wouldn't communicate with Jonah, and would not figure out how to make a life for herself separate from a man. She knew living in Alaska would be hard and didn't really try to make a life for herself there; she depended on Jonah and threw a fit when he was busy flying, which SHE TOLD HIM TO DO.
The only thing I enjoyed about this book was Calla's relationship with Roy. That was so sweet and the only relationship I actually cared about throughout the story. Calla and Jonah weren't really interacting a lot and we didn't get their adorable bickering. This book felt so much more like women's fiction to me and I just didn't care a majority of the time. I barely felt any romance and Calla was annoying when she would get jealous and possessive and angry at Jonah. While I will continue to love book one, I could have done without this book.

Overall Opinion: Bummed. I felt as though this was more about Calla's relationship with side characters than with Jonah! Once Jonah got the girl, he stopped putting the work in to make it work -- and then blamed her for it! I am also bummed that, while it was hinted at, we never really found out if Calla found her thing that makes her happy! I didn't feel very good about their ending, as it very well could've gone back to the way it was when they were having a conflict! I didn't feel as though it was really resolved...I also felt as though there was a lot of explanation going on as to what happened in the previous book, making it feel very repetitive and even redundant. Isn't this the sequel?! Shouldn't that in itself imply that we should've read the first book first?! I was kind of confused and very put off by this.
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Calla and Jonah's story. It continues from where it left off. Calla ends up returning to Alaska to be with Jonah where he isn't starting his own chartered plane company.. There is a lot of side character development, some funny moments, and some sexy times...and they get a HFN ending.

Overall Pace of Story: Alright. It did feel slow at times but I never skimmed.

If you've not read this series but its been on your radar take it from me and #1click it, it has everything us readers seek within our books we choose to read.
I can’t tell you how much I loved this book, I rang in the new year reading ‘The simple wild’ so still riding that high it only feels fitting that this became my first favourite book this year!
This series is AMAZING! And I can not wait until the next book, a series I never want to end. I wish more than anything that I could sit back and watch this on the big screen.
If like me and you've watched and loved the 'Last frontier' or anything about Alaska on the discovery channel then you'll definitely love this series.

This sequel was another brilliantly written story by KA Tucker! I absolutely loved going on Calla’s journey of finding herself and how she fits into the “Alaska Wild!” She had so much to get used to, whether it be learning how to garden, fighting off her fear of goats..( or grumpy neighbor for that matter!

This was the sequel that I never knew I needed...Barbie and The Yeti continue their love story, taking on new adventures and self discovery.
I really liked The Simple Wild, and I was 100% sure that I did not want or need to read a sequel...until I started seeing reviews, and I couldn't stop my little grabby hands from clicking on the shiny buy it now button! AND...I actually think that I like this even more than its predecessor?!!
I loved the setting! Rural Alaska *insert dreamy sigh* Does anyone have a cabin by a beautiful lake in Alaska that they want to give me?! No?! The lake, the mountains, the wildlife, the sleepy village, nosey and grumpy neighbours...I loved it! Seriously though, it's the kind of place we all want to visit, but would we want to live there? The long, dark winters, the millions of bugs, the isolation? Calla had to majorly adapt to live there, and I'm not sure I could do it! A week or so though? Sure!
The characters! 💖 There was a wonderful cast of characters, both established and new. Obviously we have Calla and Jonah, but I loved seeing Agnes, Mabel, Diana, Simon and Susan again! We are also introduced to new friends and neighbours who I grew to love just as much. Calla's neighbour really reminded me of a certain grumpy curmudgeon called Ove, who we all grew to love. This book was so much about friendship and family, and that kind of love, as well as romantic love.
I would say that Wild at Heart was more women's fiction, than romance. There was romance, but this was more about Calla adapting to Alaska, and finding her feet. Calla had so much personal character growth, she was so amazing and I loved her! She was so brave and strong, and although this was a story about her and Jonah taking their relationship to the next step, I actually loved that it wasn't all about Jonah! It did have lots in it about being honest and communicating in a relationship, not losing your identity as part of a couple, doing things for yourself, and pushing yourself to find what you really love. It addressed doubt, self esteem and trust in a raw and honest way, and I adored the relationship growth between Calla and Jonah as the book progressed.
The middle part of the book was a bit slow, as Calla learned to garden and cook, when she was befriended by Muriel. I did start to get my genres confused, and my imagination went into overdrive in the isolated Alaskan woods! I kept imagining someone jumping out and grabbing Calla lol. I didn't like these parts as much, but it was all part of Calla's journey.
I also got a bit frustrated with Jonah at times. He is such a stubborn, driven character, and could be quite oblivious and selfish. Wild at Heart made me cry quite a lot! It was very emotional, because I was so connected to these characters, and their journey! It also made me smile a lot, and often laugh out loud, with its snark, humour, and the little things that Roy did.
Although I wasn't going to read this sequel, I am so glad that I did! I would actually read a million more books about these characters! So if anyone needs me, I will be camping on Calla and Jonah's property by the lake in Trapper's Crossing, Alaska.
I really liked The Simple Wild, and I was 100% sure that I did not want or need to read a sequel...until I started seeing reviews, and I couldn't stop my little grabby hands from clicking on the shiny buy it now button! AND...I actually think that I like this even more than its predecessor?!!
I loved the setting! Rural Alaska *insert dreamy sigh* Does anyone have a cabin by a beautiful lake in Alaska that they want to give me?! No?! The lake, the mountains, the wildlife, the sleepy village, nosey and grumpy neighbours...I loved it! Seriously though, it's the kind of place we all want to visit, but would we want to live there? The long, dark winters, the millions of bugs, the isolation? Calla had to majorly adapt to live there, and I'm not sure I could do it! A week or so though? Sure!
The characters! 💖 There was a wonderful cast of characters, both established and new. Obviously we have Calla and Jonah, but I loved seeing Agnes, Mabel, Diana, Simon and Susan again! We are also introduced to new friends and neighbours who I grew to love just as much. Calla's neighbour really reminded me of a certain grumpy curmudgeon called Ove, who we all grew to love. This book was so much about friendship and family, and that kind of love, as well as romantic love.
I would say that Wild at Heart was more women's fiction, than romance. There was romance, but this was more about Calla adapting to Alaska, and finding her feet. Calla had so much personal character growth, she was so amazing and I loved her! She was so brave and strong, and although this was a story about her and Jonah taking their relationship to the next step, I actually loved that it wasn't all about Jonah! It did have lots in it about being honest and communicating in a relationship, not losing your identity as part of a couple, doing things for yourself, and pushing yourself to find what you really love. It addressed doubt, self esteem and trust in a raw and honest way, and I adored the relationship growth between Calla and Jonah as the book progressed.
The middle part of the book was a bit slow, as Calla learned to garden and cook, when she was befriended by Muriel. I did start to get my genres confused, and my imagination went into overdrive in the isolated Alaskan woods! I kept imagining someone jumping out and grabbing Calla lol. I didn't like these parts as much, but it was all part of Calla's journey.
I also got a bit frustrated with Jonah at times. He is such a stubborn, driven character, and could be quite oblivious and selfish. However, his love for Calla was evident, and he obviously learnt from his mistakes, and tried to do better, so I forgave him his yeti ways. Calla and Jonah buy a home that sits on 100 acres of land. Jonah's trying to get his new business going and Calla is putting all of her energy into making their new house a home. Promises made are soon broken and Calla is starting to experience many lonely nights while Jonah takes on jobs that keep him away from home for days on end. She makes friends with some of the eccentric townsfolk who end up helping her in ways she never could have imagined. It is the bonds that she makes with these people which tugs on the heartstrings and gives this story so much depth and increased my enjoyment one hundred times over!! My hope is that our journey is not over with these amazing group of characters!

Nothing less than 5 stars for my babies Jonah and Calla!!! I would read about them doing the most mundane tasks forever, I’m so obsessed with them!!! That being said It was so sweet to see more of Jonah and Calla in Wild at heart, their relationship felt so real and fleshed out, they weren’t perfect and they both stumbled but they did it together and I adored it.

I understand that it is hard to come after The Simple Wild but this book was really good...it shows us what happens after happily after ending and how a new couple adjusts to living together...now only thing I am missing is more of epilogue which this book needed to provide and didn't I guess that is the reason why we are getting book three Forever Wild. I am not complaining!

I had such high hopes for this one, because I loved that first book! 😍 It sadly left me lacking all the feels. 🥺 It’s still a decent book and story. The bickering and whining and extra characters just didn’t add anything exciting for me. It’s just felt a bit flat. 😬

I have been SO freaking excited for the sequel to The Simple Wild, one of my favorite books of 2018, ever since K.A. Tucker announced she would be writing more of Calla and Jonah. TSW ended on a bit of an HFN, so it made sense that there would be more of their story to tell. I adored their romance and was a little nervous going into Wild at Heart – obviously, there is the question that goes with any sequel: will I love it as much as the first? While this sequel wasn’t quite the 5-star read that the first book was, I still loved being back with Calla and Jonah again and enjoyed this further glimpse into their lives in Alaska together! If you loved TSW, I highly recommend you give this sequel a try – Calla and Jonah are still very much together and in love, but they have plenty of new struggles to overcome.
Wild at Heart picks up fairly soon after the end of The Simple Wild – Calla has agreed to be with and move to Alaska with Jonah, but only if they move to a town that’s closer to a big city. So even though Jonah is ‘home’ in Alaska, they both have to deal with moving to a new town, finding and building a home, and making new friends and connections. Jonah is just as focused on planes as he was in the first book. He’s honestly the sexiest pilot I’ve ever read! Calla is determined to make Alaska her new home, because that’s where Jonah is. But when Jonah spends more time away in order to make enough money to build a life for the two of them, Calla needs to find herself not just a job, but a passion to dedicate her life while in this new environment.
There’s not a lot of drama when it comes to Wild at Heart, and I actually liked that. It’s not as thrilling or exciting as the first book, which felt like “OMG, ALASKA!!” but that doesn’t necessarily make it worse. This sequel is more of a “let’s build a new life here, together” type of story, with Jonah and Calla creating a home for themselves and settling down. I really enjoyed the new people Calla meets in town, though Agnes, Mabel, and Wren will always be my favorites. The story is sweet and heartwarming, with K.A. Tucker’s talented writing that will suck you right back into Alaska and remind you just why you love Jonah and Calla so much. Jonah still has the ability to make me swoon, though I did want to smack him a few times when he got frustrating. So if you’ve been missing these two and/or Alaska, you definitely need to read Wild at Heart.

I hope you've all read THE SIMPLE WILD! This 2nd book is a sequel - you really should've read the first one before starting this one! It's not 100% necessary, but it would just be insane to miss out on the amazing first book!!☺
WiLD AT HEART starts four days after the first book ended.
We all remember how Jonah came to Toronto to ask Calla to come back to Alaska with him.
And she asked him for some time to think.
But of course we don't need much time - we're doing this!!
We're moving to Alaska to be with our hot angry yeti!
But of course going from being a spoiled city girl to living in the Alaskan wilderness is not the easiest thing for our Calla.
Will she give up and go back home to be spoiled in Toronto by her mom and step-dad Simon?

Ugh! I loved it!
I was sooo looking forward to reading this book. Even though I didn't really need it. I was pretty happy with the first book. I could've lived with that ending. But of course we always want more - I always want endless epilogues. And that is kind of what we get here. The MORE after THE END. The answers to questions we ask ourselves after almost every book we read! We never get that! I just love that Kathleen wrote this!
Only it's not this one little happily ever after epilogue. Not yet at least. We have a long way to go and lots of problems and arguments and animals and whatnots to overcome until there might be a HEA on the horizon!
But the reader loves every single word of Calla and Jonah's journey to that happy end!
I just adored this book! I felt like I was right there with Calla. Decorating their house, harvesting strawberries, chasing or running from goats and dogs and bugs and bears!
But of course we also know that Jonah can't be with her 24/7 - he has a new company to run and he's gone a lot. Will Calla survive alone in a place full of bears and crumpy neighbors and their wolf-dogs?
LOL! We sure hope so, because Calla & Jonah just belong together. But we don't want either of them to give up too much of their hopes and dreams to get that happily ever after.
AMAZING ROMANCE!
It was like a Calla-diary or one of her blog posts. We get lots of Jonah & romance too, but of course we focus mainly on Calla and how she survives her new life with new challenges and new friends and frenemies. It wasn't the Bianca-cries-all-through-the-book thingy like the first one - but I did shed some tears! ☺
Some readers might've hoped for something a little different, but I really loved reading this. It was just so very beautiful. I never wanted it to end!

Some would say there is no enough Jonah in this book.
Not me.
Great writing, incredible setting, deep characterisation, gradual growth of different kinds of relationships, intense moments, hilarious events, colorful descriptions and vivid scenes, great humor - all the things that matter and belong in a contemporary romance book by my standards are here. Even gardening and redecorating felt like a roller-coaster with twists and turns.
Ms. Tucker, keep them coming!

Okay I have read this book many many times but have never reviewed it before so here we go.
Calla Fletcher returned home from Alaska following the death of her father expecting to never return and never see the ‘Alaskan sky cowboy’ she’d fallen for, Jonah ever again. Until Jonah shows up saying he wants to find a version of them that will work despite how different they are and all of a sudden Calla is up and moving to Alaska. Thus begins the journey of her finding her place within Alaska, finding out how to make her relationship with Jonah work and along with it all, finding herself.
Following The Simple Wild you may think did it really need a sequel? and honestly it could have been fine being left as it was.
But I personally love this iteration and feel as though it continues the characters inner growth perfectly and honestly I would read 400 pages of Jonah and Calla doing nothing I am obsessed.
And honestly don’t you ever just want to feel some joy and see people happy. I don’t care if people don’t think it was needed I NEEDED IT OKAY.
When reading the simple wild for the first time It took me awhile to start to like Calla she really irritated me to begin with I don’t know if this was influenced by me listening to the audiobook or what but she annoyed me. But then you watch her grow so much throughout and upon starting this book you realising she isn't done growing yet, she has not yet become the person she was meant to be. I've come to a point where I now adore Calla with ever fiber of my being she's one of my favourite characters.
With this book you also get to see a new side of Jonah. You get well acquainted with his sly, sarcastic and gruff self in The Simple Wild but in this book you get to see a much sweeter side to him. His domestic and head over heels in love self and it is adorable.
This is a book which focuses a lot more on inner growth, about trying new things, finding how you fit into the world, mourning loss and navigating the highs and lows of a new relationship.
I loved getting to dive deeper into Jonah and Calla’s relationship and watch them find their place together. I was immediately obsessed with them in reading The Simple Wild but getting to witness their domestic life was adorable and also super entertaining. In many instances you read a book in which a couple get together, they get their happily ever after and that’s done but this story is unique in you getting to see that after the happily ever after is hard work in keeping a relationship healthy and functioning especially with additional complications.
The characters are so vividly portrayed, I feel no character is watered down or undeveloped I could paint a clear picture in my head of each of them and how they think and behave. I loved revisiting the old characters whilst also getting to know plenty of new ones.
I have read this book a lot, it has been a comfort read since the morning it came out and I read it in one sitting.
Its sweet, its emotional, its funny and if I'm completely honest its kind of everything.

I was a little nervous to read Wild at Heart because my expectations were so high but I am happy to report they were more than met! I fell in love even more with my sexy angry Yeti, if that was even possible. Although he was more my sexy, romantic Yeti in this book.
Wild at Heart is an extension of Jonah and Calla's love story and so The Simple Wild must be read first. In this book we get to see them planning their lives together, starting with the biggest decision of where they should live. These two were hopelessly, madly in love with each other but they didn't want to make the same mistakes as Calla's parents and they knew being in love was not going to be enough to keep them together. I think they both learned that compromise and communication with each other was essential to them surviving as a couple and by the end of this book they had #RelationshipGoals!
While this book obviously focused on Calla and Jonah as a couple, I really felt this was a bit of a coming of age story for Calla. There is a lot of focus on her finding her place in Alaska and finding a purpose outside of loving and supporting Jonah. Calla finds herself a bit isolated in rural Alaska when Jonah is working long hours. Naturally, seeds of doubt about whether she is making the right decisions by staying with Jonah begin to plant. I loved watching her grow and develop into a woman who learned to compromise without losing her identity. I did get mad at Jonah sometimes because, like Calla, I felt he didn't give her enough attention and spent so much time working. Then we are reminded that Jonah thrived on helping people and making a difference. His work was always more than a job and what he was doing was so important. It's why we fell in love with him in the first place!
I have to mention that this book is so much more sexier than the first one. The sex scenes do not go into great details but they were still so steamy! I felt so much passion, even from a single kiss! K.A. Tucker has created one of my favorite couples of all time. Their chemistry makes me feel like I'm about to be set on fire and their epic tale of romance makes my heart race and swoon all at the same time!
There are wonderful, amazing supporting characters in this story that Calla forms the most unlikely of friendships. They live in a small knit community and while some of these characters bring a lot of humor to this book, they each have their own tragic stories that made for some heartrending, emotional moments. The way the author interconnects all these characters was just brilliant! Of course I have to mention all the animals that brought so much humor and love into this book. A huge shout out to the racoon, goat and wolf dogs that were such a great addition to this story!
I was so sad to see this book end. I kept clicking the forward button on the kindle hoping there was more. I could read about these characters forever! This book is complete with a HEA but I am seriously hoping a book 3 is coming because I NEED MORE!

I enjoyed the first book and was happy with how it ended so I was a little wary of reading a sequel but I decided to take the plunge and go for it.
Calla annoyed me for some of the book... OK, I get it was a complete upheaval for her, a new way of life ... leaving family and friends but I sort of felt she was just "playing house" for a good part of the book, making Jonah feel guilty for doing his job.
I had never heard of Mount Denali in Canada and it seemed to be a prominent landmark. You learn something new every day. I never knew that the name of Mount McKinley (which I had heard of) was changed to Mount Denali in 2015!
Honestly, if Roy had not been part of the story, it might have dropped a star. I loved him and I loved seeing the development of their "friendship" and how they grew on each other.
Overall, an enjoyable story and sometimes a heroine can make or break a book for me ... and Calla just came across as a little immature sometimes. She was only 27, I suppose (young enough to be my daughter)!!
I would love to visit Alaska but I definitely would not be able to live in such a remote area or be able to deal with the snow or the cold.

It's strange how your relationship can feel impenetrable one day and vulnerable the next - with a misunderstanding, a few words, and a mountain of repressed worries that finally swell to the surface.
