I Said Yes by Kiersten Modglin
Calling: all of my GR friends who love a good thriller. I have just the book for you!
I said Yes, by Kiersten Modglin, was a beautiful and heartbreaking Story that reads as a Domestic thriller but has the depth and characterizations to really distinguish itself. I read it in one sitting and really enjoyed it. One of the best thrillers so far this year.
This story tells the tale of Hannah and Mark. They met in a bar. Hannah is a Pharmaceutical Rep and Mark is a bar tender working toward his law degree.
They fall in love pretty quickly and get married. But their relationship goes downhill almost from the start.
When the book opens, Hannah and Mark are in jail. Someone has been murdered and the lawyer who has been hired is representing both of them. We do not know who has been killed or who did the killing. But the lawyer wants the truth and it is answers he is going to get. So are we, the readers.
This book has depth and soul and is not really over the top in any way. I will say..and this is not a spoiler..that the story is more about a deeply troubled marriage then it is about the murder which does not come into the equation for awhile.
The characters are both deeply flawed. If ever you have had, even one majorly dysfunctional relationship, you will be mesmerized by this tale of two people whose love and affection becomes quickly marred by lies, mistrust and secrets. Both have addictions but it is Mark's alcoholism that is detailed here and I must say for anyone who has a difficult time reading about alcohol or substance abuse issues, they might want to skip this one. The book gets into the weeds on that subject.
Hannah also has her issues. She is addicted to food, to balance in her life, obsessed with having a baby and also co dependent.
Watching the relationship collapse between these two is like a train wreck. But the writer is so good at showing the good in her characters as well as the bad..and sometimes the evil though I will not say who is evil and who is not, as that would be a spoiler. I really like her style of writing.
So, this is a retelling through most of the book. I enjoyed it very much and was also unexpectedly touched as well as stunned by two very clever twists. I have to read more from this author and I so strongly recommend this book and hope it grabs you as it did me.
Meh. I read this because of the rave reviews, but I don't know, maybe those reviewers mostly read Kindle Unlimited books, because I thought this was a pretty mediocre domestic thriller. It was short and very readable, but it wasn't all that thrilling, and the ending wrapped things up too quickly, although by that point I really didn't feel that much connection to the story and was happy to get it over with.
This is a brilliant read. Last night I went to bed with the intentions of reading a few chapters. After reading three quarters of it I forced myself to put it down but as soon as I could today I finished it.
Mark and Hannah met one night. Two completely different kind of people. They fell hard for each other. Then things started changing and not fit the better. You just need to read this for yourself.
It’s a crazy domestic thriller that no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t predict the way it went. Absolutely loved this story. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
This "addictive psychological thriller" was not very addicting or thrilling.
I selected the book because I usually enjoy "twisted domestic thrillers" when "someone is lying. someone is dead".
Unfortunately, this book failed to deliver what was promised. The plot was shallow and predictable and the dialogue was mindless. I also experienced difficulties "connecting" with both of the protagonists.
I listened to the audiobook. I always love it when an audiobook has multiple narrators and both of the book's narrators were good but not great.

I Said Yes grips you from the beginning and doesn't let you go til the very last page. It opens with Hannah and Mark both sitting down with an attorney to explain what happened the night of the murder, but as you'll see, it's not really that simple.
This is the first book I've read by author, Kiersten Modglin, and it definitely won't be the last because I really enjoyed this suspenseful story.
I received a review copy from the author; all opinions are my own.
This one doesn’t have the highest ratings but I honestly still enjoyed it. I wasn’t sure where this story was going but KMod’s books read so quickly that the slower build up in the beginning doesn’t take away from the enjoyment as a reader. I did not see this twist coming so rounding this one up to 4 stars. Another binge worthy psychological thriller!
This book was insane, from the beginning to the end. Hanna and Mark fell in love as soon as they meet. It was an instant connection. The relationship moved rather fast and before they knew it, they were married. Life was good, but then secrets that were burry begin to surface. Who was mark really? Who was Hanna? What secrets did they keep? Could their love survive this? This book is amazing and as always the twist makes the reading oh so worth it..You should definitely read it :)
I Said Yes Kiersten Modglin ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ When you finish a book in one day it must be 5 star worthy. I Said Yes caught my attention from the very start. I loved Hannah and found myself rooting for her and Mark! They meet, fall in love and then it starts unraveling..... the twist and turns kept me guessing. When I put it down I couldn’t help but try to figure out where this story was going. This is a fast paced 5 star book! Thank you to Kiersten Modglin for sending me this book, you are a phenomenal author and I look forward to reading more of your books!
Have you read a Kiersten Modglin book? If not, you are missing out on a goosebump read
My review is going to be short and sweet because I don't want to give away anything!!!!
The book begins with 2 people, Hannah and Mark are sitting in jail being interrogated by their attorney for a murder. I'm hooked already.
The story alternates between Him and Her, and now and then. Pulls me in deeper as to their personality dynamics.
Hannah and Mark have many secrets, lies, and betrayals during their relationship. Once they marry, their situation deteriorates and worsens. Now I'm very invested because I don't know who I should believe, Hannah or Mark.
And then comes the explosion. Wait, what did I just read?!?! At this time I have to reread what just happened!!!
Kiersten Modglin has done it again!!! She knows how to write a psychological thriller!!! She has the ability to always make the reader pause and grasp what just happened and putting it all in perspective.
Another Kiersten Modglin book that blew me away!!! Wow! Just WOW!!! My goal is to read her entire library of thrillers!! Her books are hard to put down!!!!! See my reviews for 2 of her other books: Just Married and
Another book blogger recommended her to me and so glad she did. So I am now going to emphasize that you need to check out her books. I'm sure she will grab you hook, line and sinker!!!!!
For all it's hype, this is a pretty boring book. No real psychological thrills as promised. About all I can say about it was at least it was short. Seems perfect for a LMN movie mayby starring Tori Spelling.
I read a lot of psychological thrillers. I love them. The only thing I loved about this book is that I didn't pay for it because it was free on Kindle Unlimited.
I know I'm in the minority based on the high ratings the book has received. To be honest, I have no idea how it has a 4+ rating. At all.
I highly disliked Hannah, the protagonist. I saw her as a complete fool from the beginning to end with zero insight or logic and without any common sense. In fact, there wasn't a likable character in the (small) bunch.
The arrangement of the plot was strange. There was little background given about Hannah, which might've been helpful in understanding her. The one thing we did know was that she was close to her mother, but Hannah chose to not rely on that relationship throughout the novel.
The beginning of Hannah's relationship with Mark seemed haphazard, both in the author's writing and how the relationship actually started. Her attraction to him was immediate yet he demonstrated no desirable characteristics, even in the beginning. They never seemed believable as a couple to me.
Despite the book being a relatively short one (thank god), there were still elements that ended up being pointless to the story (Luis' role, for example). All in all, this is a rare instance when I'm having trouble finding any redeeming qualities of I Said Yes.
My advice, since I am in the minority here, is to read this for free if you can. I hope you like it much more than I did.
I was hooked from the first page, it's suspenseful and it's fast paced. Hannah and Mark seemed to have the perfect marriage until something happens and you wonder who your husband truly is. There are many twists and it keeps you guessing til the end! Thank you Kiersten for allowing me to read an early copy. You were a new author to me in this genre that I love so much that I'm now a fan and will be reading more of your work!
Another amazing, perfectly paced story! This one is a little sad. I routed hard for Mark & Hannah, until I didn’t. 😬😬 Yikes!
The twist at the end is shocking!! So incredibly good! I flew through this story, as I could not put it down!
This is my third book (in a row,) by this author!! Her characters are unforgettable and I absolutely love her twists at the end of her stories!! They are deliciously good!! 🖤
🎢 I highly recommend this suspenseful, rollercoaster ride of a wild story!
Wow!! Another suspenseful tale from Kiersten Modglin. Her latest work has all the elements of a psychological thriller; mystery, drama, action and paranoia. You are tricked into thinking you know what is going on, but in reality, you have no idea what is waiting around the corner.
Hannah didn’t really know Mark all that well when they got married and moved to Atlanta, but she had to say yes. Mark was very secretive about his past and kept all of his skeletons well hidden. He chipped away at her sanity, and was verbally abusive, but Hannah continued to say yes to his demands. He isolated her from the outside world and she rarely went anywhere alone. Hannah became paranoid and fearful, but she still held out hope that their love could withstand his betrayal. That would never happen because Mark was crazy, controlling and the devil incarnate. Hannah accepted his excuses for his delusional behavior because she truly believed that things would go back to the way they were when they first met, but she was terribly wrong.
“I Said Yes” is the story of a woman’s attempt to navigate a terrible marriage to an alcoholic. While this book isn’t awful, it’s a definite bait-and-switch situation. The title says it’s an “addictive psychological thriller.” Let’s break that down. It’s not addictive, it’s *about addiction.” It’s not so much psychological as it just contains a hella crazy character, the narrator’s husband, with definite psychological issues. There’s a thriller vibe in that the book keeps you hanging by a thread until almost the end. Every page or two, I thought, “this must be it. Surely this is where the crime alluded to at the very beginning will FINALLY happen.” But nope. By the time it did finally happen, the book was almost over and I was underwhelmed. And then there’s only about 15 minutes of wondering who did it before we know for sure. Honestly, they should just rebrand this as a drama about living with an alcoholic, chop off some far-reaching “bad behavior is caused by genetics” stuff at the end and call it a day.
This was an interesting domestic drama that felt pretty unique to me. It had some layers we don't always see and it portrayed marrying an addict very well. They make the honeymoon days pretty traumatic. I was actually shocked and impressed by how honest it felt.
The book is told in alternating chapters of "him" and "her" beginning with the present and knowint theure in jail. We know both parties have made mistakes in this marriage but somehow someone has ended up dead and we don't know how, who or by who(or is it whom? don't answer that). The journey to finding out is pretty whacky!
It was a quick read; perfect for this rainy summer weekend we are having.
This is the fourth book I have read from this author. After reading and loving the last three books she wrote, I knew I would enjoy this one as well.
Starting with the cover. This book has a dark and stunning cover depicting a woman who might have went through a few things but is trying to stay strong and resilient.
All I can say is this book was outstanding. There were some Thriller vibes that I absolutely fell in love with. There were a few reveals that caught me completely off-guard. For a book that comes in at only 203 pages, this book packs a serious knockout punch. The suspense in this book was phenomenal. This book had me hooked from start to finish, and my jaw was dropped for the last 40 pages.
Kiersten's writing in this book out did every other book I've ever read from her. The suspense characteristics she used in this book were eye-popping and jaw-dropping. She definitely hooked me from start to finish and I did not want this book to end. It was that amazing.
I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves a short but fantastic Thriller. Kiersten isn't a well-known suspense author, but more people need to read her books!!!!
She did it again! I'm glad I finally 'said yes' to making time to read. I knew there would be twists, as Modglin is known for them, but I didn't see the big one at the end coming. Like, at all! I was so involved I had to finish in almost one sitting. Thanks for another suspenseful ride!
I listened to this #audiobook in 5 hours on Hoopla during my drive home yesterday. The narrator was great and @kierstenmodglinauthor killed it again with this twisty #domesticthriller. She has the best book endings ever and I always gasp aloud during her books.
