Izzy Sage should be on top of the world but the revenant threat has her watching her back. Things only get worse when an oddball cult looking for a door to another world show up on Belle Isle and start circling the parking lot while demanding entrance to the other side.
Izzy is out of her league when it comes to dealing with the group – especially their charismatic leader who pushes all of her buttons – and when a body drops outside the aquarium, her suspicion is piqued.
As much as she wants to focus on the revenants, the cult has to take priority. The more Izzy digs, the more disturbing information she finds. It seems at least one member has ties to Paris’ past and another cult run amok… and further ties just might lead to the current threat hanging over the reaper world’s heads. Death is basically knocking on the door between worlds and it’s anybody’s guess who will answer.
That all pales in comparison to the bigger news. The Grimlock grandparents, Emmet and Mary, have arrived in Detroit… and they’re not happy. They have plans for each Grimlock – and their significant others – and they refuse to back down.
It’s utter chaos in the reaper world and there’s trouble at every turn. Izzy has to sort it all out… if she survives long enough to untangle an unsavory bundle of threads that lead to mayhem and destruction, that is.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
This is one of my favourite paranormal series' and this book just kept the love going.
The combination by the author of dramatic, suspenseful paranormal mayhem, with hilarious, snarky humourous moments absolutely delights me with each subsequent book in the series. It really makes for the perfect balance of intensity and light-heartedness so the books are never overwhelmingly heavy and dark, even thought the plot and the ongoing storyline are undeniably dark.
The characters in this series are just flat out fantastic, and I love all of them with my whole heart!! Izzy as our main protagonist the most, but all the characters in this series are so unique and quirky, sarcastic and ridiculous and I really could not love them more!!
The ongoing plot which appears to be driving us relentlessly to Armageddon is intense and scary but so engrossing and well-crafted. I always hate to put the book down when I read one of the stories in this series.
This series is a paranormal thrill-ride start to finish and I look forward to continuing on the ride through to the end.
New friends, surprise enemies (hey, they were the world's most evil all along!) You should probably go back and read ALL of this series of series ( see what I did there? ) because it is all AMAZING! You won't be able to put them down, promise! First the Grimlocks. Then the circus, all leading up to the Death Gate.
Of course, there Is on spoiled rotten brat I want to dtown in a sewer, but hey. You don't have to lurrve all the good gals, right?
This was a really good book. I enjoyed how it brought other series characters into it, and I'm really looking forward to the next one. The plot line was also filled with twists and turns that were awesome. I can't wait for more.
This is building into a fabulously deep series.. as the trouble at the gate continues with a cult appearing at the aquarium claiming that they are going to "open the door" to the afterworld and release the spirits back to their families.
Family is word that ALL the Grimlock's have heard enough of right now as Cormack's parents, Emmet and Mary, are visiting. They're rude, disrespectful and downright miserable people; insisting on having everything their own way and dismissing Griffin, Maya and, to a slightly lesser degree, Izzy as beneath them.
As a body appears at the aquarium and the cult seems to be recruiting young blonde girls for nefarious purposes everyone needs to be at the top of their game but the cult seems to be able to affect Lily's behaviour and the sleepless nights are going to create an extra toll on everyone.
When Izzy finally piece's it together it's a shock in itself, but the reality of the situation is going to blow everything out of the water.
Lee is a very prolific writer, but each and every one is carefully crafted and beautifully written as part of one or more series. Often characters dip across and join another series in a crossover or as one ends another series will continue the story from a different characters viewpoint. This makes her novels truly come alive with familiar characters we love and miss, along with the new, providing a better depth. I know this is not long out but Lee's created such a powerful storyline that I am once again on tenterhooks for the next book!!
Although the main character in this series is a Bruja named Izzy Sage whose job it is to maintain the gate through which the souls collected by Dealers are sent on to the great beyond this series revolves more and more around our favourite Reaper family the Grimlocks. Brandon Grimlock is Izzy's boyfriend and through him we come into contact with the rest of the family so it's pretty much a continuation of their series told through Izzys perspective, with the death gate as the focal point for mystery and danger. In this instalment everybody is still coming to terms with events from previous books especially Aisling and Griffin. When Izzy turn up for work at the aquarium ( The death gate is located in its basement) one morning she is shocked to find a crowd in the parking lot, they appear to be just walking around in circles, on approaching the person in charge she hears a ridiculous story. The crowd believe if the walk in a circle for long enough they will open a door to the otherworld allowing them to speak with their departed relatives. Ridiculous it may be but Izzy can't get over the close connection to the death gate sure there must be something more sinister going on. Then there is a dead body discovered right in front of the aquarium and it's confirmed this group is up to no good and Izzy with the help of the Grimlocks just figure out what's really going on before more die or those involved succeed in their nefarious plan. Always a treat.
I've been following the Izzy Sage series since they starte the also in the Grimlock clan, arrives to work one day to find a cult walking around the public parking lot. This definitely gives Izzy cause feel uneasy. These are not run of the mill kooks cultists, especially with Titus, the leader, who demands entry to the 'Death door'. To make matters worse, the girlfriend of a street lord is killed & he suffers knife wound. But the absolute worse is the arrival of Mary & Emmett Grimlock two of the most unpleasant, straightlaced people whom ever came through the Grimlock Mansion. They criticise everything & every parental decision Cormack makes. Between the over the top battles they are subjected to, all the Grimlocks are wondering, not only when they're leaving but why they came in the first place ?? When Lily gets involved & screams bloody hell every time a group of cult members stand on public land chanting. It's all Grimlocks on deck to deal with this menace. The mention of Magical Carnival crossovr has me wanting to get that series too. Amanda M Lee is an extraordinary writer of paranormal mysteries aranormal mysterie that will keep you reading ' just one more chapter'. It will be so worth it.
Perhaps its just me, but despite the romance (which is cute) and some of the fun family conversation (which can be nothing of hilarious), I was sadly disappointed. I didn't realize that there was a fifth book, which I should have looked into before starting the series. Some of the events, like with Izzy and her grandfather, were satisfying and answered some questions. Despite this series being first person and centering around Izzy, I don't feel as though the series focuses on her and her story. (spoilers ahead) We still don't have any answers about Izzy's magic, or her memories. Now we have more questions with Titus, Mary and Emmett trying to get through the gate. And with the realization that other reapers are involved helping the revenants, one book obviously won't be enough. Right now, despite the plot being rich, I feel like its dulled because everything with Izzy is a big question and doesn't make sense. I'd love to see more build up of her training and having to learn more about her magic, because her just using it in final boss battles takes away from what is supposed to make her special. Because theres no build up, the point of the book focusing on Izzy's weaknesses fell a bit flat.

The Grimlocks continue to amuse but the lack of logic doesn't just stretch credibility, it dances all over its grave.
In last book, the female lead was told by an ACTUAL GOD that the revenants are trying to break thru the death gate in order to invade the human world. So the logical thing to do would be create magically, electronic and physical security measures around it and between it and the aquarium entrance, add failsafes to the whole show, restrict access to only essential gate personal and, most of all, start having the gatekeeper do her actual job instead of running around having adventures with the Grimlocks.
None of this is done. In fact, they plan on having reaper trainees waltzing in and out soon, despite the fact that (a) reapers actually have nothing to do with the gate; they don't even drop off the souls they collect there so there is nothing for them to train on there and (b) past full reapers have been shown to be less than upright and trustworthy.
On top of that,
And these people are just idiots.
And that is just what I can remember off the top of my head.
I am endlessly amused by the Grimlocks but the lack of logic is driving me crazy enough that I am stopping here.
Oh, it's always fun to visit the Grimlocks and I have to say the Death Gate series is a wonderful side spin series that just melds into Amanda M Lees supernatural world awesomely.
Izzy is amazing and I love her job Oliver and Paris are great workmates and more than that they are family as are the Grimlocks I seriously love Izzy and Braden together and Cormack is hilarious with Izzy he has just added her to the family seamlessly and we can't forget Aisling this may not be her series but she still adds her stamp to each book without overpowering the series and I love it.
This story was interesting in many ways, the cult, linking Paris in more and the potential visit with Zoe, Aric, and Sammi, slipping the revenants in toward the end with threads to the bigger plot and omg Cormack's parents now there is a powder keg of epic proportions waiting to explode...
I love Izzy and Grimlocks, but I wasn't overly impressed with the plot line for this book. It seemed to me the biggest thing happening in this book was introduction of more characters. Not complaining about that, I can't wait to see what happens when everyone is in one place all together and getting to know Izzy and the Grimlocks more, I'm just not sure we needed a whole book for that introduction.
Spoiler: I also wasn't surprised to find out Grandparents Grimlock were a part of the bad guy team. I think they were just too unpleasant. They had to be bad guys.
I am enjoying seeing how Izzy and Braden's story is unfolding. I love big strong men who have mushy middles. I was also glad to have Izzy's grandpa brought back into the picture.
It looks like the next book will include all of these added characters. I cannot wait for it.

This book was thrilling and full of action. I was literally at the edge of my seat because u couldnt tell what would happen next. The grimlocks are awaiting the visit from their grandparents. They are not looking forward to it. besides that, Izzy has some creepy folks circling the aquarium talking about a door between life and death. Things start getting bizarre after a dead body of a young girl is discovered at the front door of the aquarium Izzy feels a sense of dread with all these happenings. A deadly danger is looking over them all. The twist at the end was shocking. I can't wait for the next book to find out how Izzy and the Grimlocks deal with this danger. The fear from what happened to Aisling in the last book lingers in the book and the emotions linked to it get addressed. A fabulous book.
What can I say? I loved the Grimlock series, and now Izzy is a very welcome addition to the family, and keeps their story moving along with hers. Life might get better for Izzy as she's settled into her new life on Belle Isle, and her new love - one 5th of the snarky, quick witted super hot (their words!) - Grimlocks; Braden to be precise, but that doesn't mean life is easy for her. Unfortunately, she not only has the threat of the Revenants, but also new threats in the guises of a cult lead by Titus who makes Izzy both nervous and furious, and Emmett and Mary Grimlock, the grandparents of her boyfriend, who are determined to make their son, Alpha Grimlock Cormack - who supplied the genes that have every one of his off-spring look exactly the same as him - grandchildren and their partners unhappy. They seem to be doing a good job too.
So, poor Izzy has to deal with all of this, plus the death of a young homeless girl in the doorstep of where she works and lives, that may well be due to the cult or other nefarious means. Whilst investigating this she meets another witch who is a potential ally and friend, that is strong yet untrained. This leads her to want to do something to help the 'tent city' set up by hundreds of homeless in a park - although that is a worry for a other day (or book?).
All of this Whilst also trying to get into Lily's head to find out what is making her so distraught that she's keeping the entire Grimlock household awake and sick with worry.
Izzy becomes so overwhelmed that she breaks down to Cormack about how much she is missing her Grandfather who hasn't spoken to her (other than emails regarding the weather) so be she left New Orleans to return to Detroit, or a she feels, home. So, the question is, what can Cormack to to help his newest member of the family? Knowing Cormack, he'll come up with something as he hates any of his children being upset - be they blood children or children by choice (and as partners of one of his own).
Once again Amanda M Lee has come up trumps. If I was stranded on an island with only a handful of books to keep me amused I would want the Grim series followed by the reaper series to keep me sane. They are everything a family should be, I know this to be true because my family are this way - and we rock! 😁
I only noticed one minor error this first read, so hopefully that'll be all, and it isn't enough to.distract from the story.
The book is well thought out, and like the Grim series clearly has a destination. I only hope when we reach this destination she doesn't retire the Grimlock's (and Izzy naturally as she's one too). They're far too good to be put on a shelf and forgotten after all.
Having literally just re-read the Grim series for about the fifth time, I shall now re-read the first Reaper books and this one again...again just to ensure everything runs as smoothly as I recall of course.
Finally, my thanks to Amanda for her amazing imagination, and her team of proof readers and editors for doing a great job. The mistakes definitely seem fewer 😊
It’s a mess. Izzy’s grandfather is breaking her heart, not answering her calls. Cormack’s parents have brought their entitled, snobbish selves to visit, ensconcing themselves in the family home, and worse, ratcheting up enough tension to make baby Lily cry. And cry. A cult-style group, led by an obvious conman, and claiming the desire to find a door to living forever, is walking in circles right across from the Death Gate. And no one is sure what will happen next with the revenants. Though Izzy can feel the wrongness., she’s so distracted, she hasn’t quite been able to see how all the pieces fit together. But Izzy’s mind is a beautiful thing.
After having mixed feelings about the previous book, I was a little hesitant as to what I would find in this story. However, I shouldn’t have worried as I loved this. Izzy and Braden are going strong, and the Grimlock’s are just an over the top, crazy and amazing family.
The arrival of the grandparents threw a spanner in the works for the family, yet I wasn’t expecting the outcome of the story to be quite this out of left field. I wasn’t expecting it in the least, and the ramifications it presents for the reapers and Izzy will definitely be fodder for future books.
I can't wait to see Zoe in action again. The next book needs to hurry. As far as this book, it was fantastic. I love how Lily is progressing and enjoying the new dynamic with everyone. Izzy is missing her grandfather, dealing with a crazy cult that is obsessed with the gate, trying to figure out the revenant mess from the last book and trying to survive attacks and her boyfriends grandparents. . This is a very stressful time for Izzy, but she has Braden and the rest of the Grimlocks at her back. Her magic is pretty cool and she displays a lot of it in this book. Plenty of non-stop action.
I always think Amanda M Lee books and too soon. Don't take me wrong, the books are a decent length but I always want more they are so entertaining. Especially this series as it has always been going toward a goal. Figuring out what happened to Izzy when she was younger and how that story is continuing. Plus you get your Grimlock and now some of your Zoey fix. Needless to say I can't wait for the next part of the story (not patiently anyway.)
No language, no graphic sex (sex off page) or violence (most off page.) I recommend all of Amanda M Lee's series ' plus her Lily Harper Hart series '.
A dead body,a cult and the Grimlocks grandparents.Izzy is sure that the cults had something to do with the body, the more she find out the more she's sure it them t with the constant chanting is messing with Izzy thinking ,she need a calm sounding board ,but the person she needs wont talk.Izzy is missing a vital point. The grandparents are a piece of work, like entitled, snobbish, rich people, who recoil anyone who they consider is beneath them, and why show up now the twins was younger they tried to take they from their father,is it a coincidence the cult and now they grandparents read and find out
I love this series so much it's not even funny. I've re-read every book that has to do with the Grimlocks more times than I can count, but I think this series is even better than the original Grimlock series. There's so much character growth and the additional magic that Izzy brings to the story really adds some extra intrigue for me. And, my favorite parts of this book were definitely the scenes with Lily. So cute, and so funny! This was another great read and I can't wait to find out what happens next. I would definitely recommend this book!
The story is solid (like a brick). The story builds on the previous books (like bricks in a wall) and sets up for more books (bricks).
Izzy has what appears to be a cult show up in front of the aquarium. But all is not as it seams. A few new interesting characters are added and a mystery is solved. The book (brick) is a great setup for the next book in which Zoe's family from the Covenant College series will visit. Looking forward to continue reading the series.
Extraordinarily awesome and outstanding urban fantasy series
This is one of my favorite urban fantasy series out there. Every book just gets better and better. From where the series started to the expanded universe it just continually gets better. An extraordinarily awesome cast of characters with a dark twisted and yet extraordinarily entertaining storyline. Add some snarky characters as well as some outright hilarious characters and the adventure of fighting evil at every turn. Follow along and see what happens next. You will not be disappointed. Check it out
This book was another excellent story that kept me completely enthralled for hours. Izzy and Braden are adorable and I was a huge doubter on this relationship at the beginning because I thought Braden was a douche. He is finally becoming a character I can love. Aisling is at her snarky best and Cormack is the dad we all wish we had! Great book! Left on a cliffhanger which is frustrating but totally understandable. The next book will be Epic! Zoe Lake meets the Grimlocks ahhhhhh I cannot wait!
There are not enough adjectives in the English, French, Norse and Chinese languages combined to describe my immense love for the Grimlock world. Really enjoying the storyline arc. Facinated by the moon goddess of the pink hair. Hope to see a lot more of her. Can't wait for my next e -girls nights with Izzy and Ainsley. And, maybe a few old school chums???? You'll have to steal my soul to keep me away. Ok. Not really. That just got kinda dark. Regardless, very much looking forward to the next story. I do need my soul though, thanks.
Amanda M Lee just keeps the surprises coming. As always her characters are on point and the twists and turns will leave you waiting impatiently for the next book. Join Izzy, Braden, Aisling, and the rest of the Grimlocks to try and bring down a cult and find answers that will blow you away. It is a remarkable talent Ms. Lee has to be able to fuse so many series together and at the same time keep things going without giving anything away until the time is right!
4.5 Stars... Izzy has her hands full when a cult lands on her doorstep seeking "The Door" to the otherworld; when a young woman is murdered and another gone missing, Izzy and the Grimlock gang must piece the puzzle together before it is too late... As the picture becomes clearer and answers are evident, Izzy realizes that a pending war is on the brink and she will need her own army to win... Another spellbinding read tying together multiple series from Amanda Lee and providing readers an opportunity to reconnect with favorite characters from the past... Pure fun:)
Amanda M Lee is a new all time favorite author. She has a way of drawing you into a book and getting your feeling involved. I can't wait to read the next one in this series. I love the Grimlock's and all of the other characters. I love how she gets other characters from other series into the mix. I have never laughed and cried reading a book as I have reading hers books. The only other Authors that have manged to do that are Nora Roberts, JD Robb, Catherine Coulter, and Richard H. Stephens. Would love to find more that can do that.
I honestly don't know how Amanda M Lee does it! This was a fantastic story. The death gate series is phenomenal with characters that leave you laughing and a story that will leave you guessing right up until the end. Izzy is such a strong intelligent heroine and her relationships with both Braedon and the other Grimlock's is fun. The family is certifiable! I'm continually amazed by these stories and every one is a treat.
I love this series, especially the main character, Izzy...she is a imperfect heroine with strength in character and desire to protect those she is loyal to. In this book we delve deeper into the evil impacting the gate community and of course it done with laughs and snark because Izzy is part of the Grimlock family. I cant wait until the next book in this series..because it's a crossover with some great characters from another wonderful series.
Well, the ending certainly surprised me. I love it when I get a surprise ending. Innocent people died in this book. And the ending of the book was justice served. There is an overall arching plotline that is shaping up to be formidable. Several people with strong paranormal powers are heading towards the Grimlocks and Izzy. Other strong allies also will fight on the side of humanity. For sure I am reading the next book. Cannot wait.
This series is a spinoff from the Aisling Grimlock series, which was one of my favorites! This series has been another favorite from the first book. The characters are interesting, and full of snark and sarcasm. The mystery is wrapped up by the end to a point, but there are larger story arcs that continue from one book to the next. I highly recommend this series and that they be read in order!
I didn't want this Book to end, it's a book you just can't put down. The story moves quickly and the plot so involved, you don't see what's coming. The characters are so entertaining and even though there are life and death situations, there is laugh out loud comic relief as well. So well written. I can't get enough of this Series! Looking forward to the next book!
