Can she elude the relentless danger before it’s too late?
A December tour of Yellowstone National Park sounded like the perfect escape from Faith Chandler’s problems at home—until she discovers her tour guide is her jilted childhood sweetheart, Jake Mitchell. Faced with guilt from her past mistakes, plus a disturbing pattern of suspicious incidents, Faith has second thoughts about staying on the tour.
Despite her misgivings, the serene splendor of the winter wonderland provides a much-needed respite from her stressful life and gives her a fresh perspective. After a little soul-searching, she wants to come clean with Jake. But can he forgive her for the heartache she caused—or the truth she’s withheld from him? Meanwhile, Jake wants to keep Faith at a distance, yet he must protect her from the menace stalking his tour group.
As her enemies close in like ravenous wolves, Faith is the only one who can stop the mayhem by finding the missing piece of the puzzle. Is it a smoking gun—or a trap set to destroy both her and Jake?
Award-winning author Gayla K. Hiss began her writing journey painting landscapes. In her imagination, characters and scenes came to life as she painted beautiful natural settings. Her inspiring novels combine her love for the great outdoors with romance, suspense, and adventure. Her book WILDFIRE won the Faith, Hope, and Love Reader’s Choice Award for romantic suspense, and her book COLD PURSUIT was a finalist in the romantic suspense category for both the Faith, Hope, and Love Reader’s Choice Award and the Selah Awards.
Gayla and her husband often tour the country with their RV, visiting many state and national parks. She enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling, and lives in the Pacific Northwest.
Bella storia, ma ho apprezzato soprattutto le descrizioni del parco di Yellowstone in pieno inverno: voglio andarci anch'io! Peccato che questo sia l'ultimo libro della serie...
I enjoyed the suspense element as much or more than any book I have read recently. As the story neared the conclusion, I was surprised to learn who the masked man was. No, it was not the Lone Ranger. This was a bad dude who kept showing up at the most importune times for Faith. I kept wondering if he would ever get caught. I appreciated the fact that Faith began to realize that God wasn’t a being who sat way off somewhere in Heaven with no particular interest in our daily decisions, such as what job she should accept. What an amazing discovery for her to learn that He truly does care about every aspect of our lives. Now it may be one thing to read that in a fiction story, but the truth of the matter is that He does care. We can bank on that. I enjoyed the awesome scenery described by the author. My only trip to Yellowstone and Old Faithful was over sixty years ago during the summer, so we obviously missed the grandeur of the park in the winter. I can’t say the book was almost like a travelogue because there was far more to the story than the descriptions of the geysers erupting, the wildlife all over the place, the frozen waterfalls, steaming rivers, and challenging trails. The action was intense and the drama was almost comical, if it had not been so pathetic. To clarify, I am referring to two women who were such drama queens. Faith was not the only one who had some lessons to learn from God. Jake had some old issues to settle as well. The only disappointing thing about the book is that it is the final one in this series. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Cold Pursuit is a mystery/suspense novel by author Gayla K Hiss.It is book 4 of the Peril in the Park series.
Monica Wallace is missing. Faith is on a free tour trip to Yellowstone National Park with her friend Shelly, hoping to get away from her problems at home.
I love the setting, Yellowstone National Park at Christmas. The characters appeared real and I felt like I was living vicariously through them. I learned the Fort Yellowstone was once used by the U.S. Army when it was in charge of the park, before the administration duties were transferred to the National Park Service in 1918.
Who is the masked menace who seems to be following Faith? Can the reader figure it out before the end of the novel? There are so many ways this novel could have ended. I did have it figured out but that did not ruin my interest in the book.
Can a young couple who broke up seven years ago start over? Or should they continue to move on with their own lives?
This is a quick read and I recommend the book to fans of mystery or suspense. Even though it is book #4 of the series it can act as a standalone. However, you’ll love it so much you will want to read the rest in the series.

"Cold Pursuit" is the fourth and final book in the Peril in the Parks series. I first met Jake Mitchell in "Wildfire", book three in the series, but you could read this book as a standalone. Some of the characters are mentioned and you do learn a little bit about Jake's background by reading "Wildfire" first, though. There was part of the mystery that I had figured out, but I didn't know the whole story, so it still kept me in suspense until the end. I enjoyed reading the story and felt that it flowed well. There is a faith element woven into the story and the characters grow throughout the book. I look forward to seeing what Gayla Hiss writes next.
I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received for my review.
Cold Pursuit Peril in the Park, Book 4 By: Gayla K. Hiss Narrated by: Michael Cahill
I love this series! It is so visual, I feel like I was in the park with Gayla K Hiss as she created her latest in the Peril in the Park series. We previously met Jake in Wildfire, Injured on the job, he has now found a new place for his skills until finding the true job he would like. Being a tour guide in Yosemite is exciting, and each time he takes people out it's like a new experience. But this time is different, He is taking out a group that includes his ex-fiance Faith. There is a lot of hurt between them, and this is going to prove to be difficult. Being the adults they are though, they are going to persevere. This may give them the time to sort some of their feelings out. Faith never got over her love for Jake, but circumstances at the time caused her to bolt. Now she has the chance to face it all and possible win the love of her life back. Life is never that easy though. She is being stalked. Danger is lurking and the question is what do they want and why? Will Jake be able to keep her safe? Who can you trust? This is an amazing listen, with visual imagery that pulls you in, suspense to keep you on your toes and a romance to fall in love with.
Michael Cahill continues his narration of this series with a wonderful performance. He has so many voices, each fitting the personality of the character and making it all come alive. I enjoyed this story and the series is amazing.
This was an entertaining Winter Themed story set in Yellowstone National Park. I bit too much suspense for me, but overall a good story. Some aspects were a surprise, which is always a point in a mystery, while others were too obvious. I guess a balance is important as well. While I thought the narration was really good, I would have traded the character voices for the cousins. Every woman wants the hero with the deep sexy voice. Lol!
Laid off and lost in her next turn, Faith accepted the free trip with her friend to Yellowstone just before Christmas - a winter adventure had to be what she needed! Living in Dallas hadn’t given her the joys of the outdoor winter activities she had so enjoyed growing up in Colorado! When she saw her ex-fiancée was leading the weeks tour she was ready to bolt! He didn’t know the real reason she broke it off and she didn’t feel like facing him with the facts when she was already feeling vulnerable. All the accidents and warning that she was receiving seemed to not make sense to her, yet they continued and intensified! Nothing seemed to get resolved until the very climax! Wow, it seemed everyone was guilty!
All four books in this series were very enjoyable and entertaining. I like books with suspense, action, and mystery. Plus the clean romance, and inviting God into the stories , adds a blessing that makes it more than just a feel good book. I will look for more books by Gayle K. Hiss and send her a thank you for these.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book full of intrigue, suspense and romance, with plenty of twists and turns. I loved the location of this book, set in the Yellowstone park in winter. This is the fourth book in the Park series by Gayla Hiss and I fully recommend all four!
I enjoyed all 4 books in this series, but this one is my favorite. I wondered what happened with Jake after his accident in a previous book, so it was cool he was the main male character in this book.
The author really kept me guessing as to who the bad guys were, and I was pretty surprised by the one. Great read, and great ending to this series.
Wow. I’m so sad to see this series end, but it was an incredible journey. These characters and their adventures are simply amazing. I loved exploring Yellowstone through this book. I’ve never even considered what things are like there in the winter.
A great addition to the series. Another book packed with action, adventure, and spine-tingling suspense. If you like Terri Blackstock, Colleen Coble, or Patricia Bradley, you'll love Gayla K. Hiss.
Far from the relaxing vacation at Yellowstone she was expecting, Faith found herself the target of a masked man. Was it somehow related to Monica's disappearance? Was it someone trying to hurt the business of the tour company? Or, was it actually a jealous female, hating that Jake was showing her interest? Gayla K. Hiss did a great job in keeping the motive behind the attacks as hidden as the person behind them. I was kept guessing. When I thought I knew the answer, there was reason to question it yet again.
While Jake had been hurt when Faith broke off their engagement years earlier and then surprised and a little dismayed to find her on the tour he was leading, his response was mature and even kind. Well, after he stopped ignoring her, that is. It was not an "insta-forgiveness"; he had to choose to forgive and treat her with kindness. This did make it more realistic to me.
While I was bursting with curiosity and just wanted Faith to tell Jake why she deserted him right away, I could see why she would have wanted to avoid doing that. Not a fan of confrontation myself, I loved that Jake was able to forgive without knowing why she had made the choice she did.
The descriptions of Yellowstone made me want to hop on a plane and go visit immediately. It even made me want to do cross-country skiing! At least in theory. :-)
I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
Gayla K. Hiss has written an exciting story of second-chance love for her main characters Faith Chandler and Jake Mitchell. Their story takes place among the grandeur of Yellowstone National Park in December. The scenery, park features and wildlife are described in exquisite detail.
Unfortunately, Faith is targeted by an unknown assailant for the duration of her two-week trip to Yellowstone.
“...the sound of a motor disrupted the silence. Shifting her focus, she saw a red and black snowmobile crossing the parking lot at a breakneck speed. Surprised she stared at the oncoming vehicle, expecting it to stop. When it didn’t, she dove out of the way right when it veered where she had been standing.”
This is a romantic story with elements of nail-biting suspense. It is book 4 in the Peril in the Park series. It can be read as a stand-alone. I have not read the other books in the series but I will be shortly. I recommend Gayla K. Hiss’s books to teens and adults alike.
I was provided an Advanced Readers Copy of this book by the author. I was not given or offered any compensation for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This story takes place in Yellowstone National Park during winter. Shelly brings her friend, Faith to the park as her guest on a vacation she won. Faith has just lost her job and her boyfriend and needs the distraction. Much to their surprise, their tour guide is a person from Faith’s past. The story contains mystery, blackmail, murder attempts, and many twists and turns that will find you on the edge of your seat. The story also shows how a damaged relationship was repaired and has just the right amount of faith and prayers. The story is well written and is part of the author’s Peril in the Park Series, but is a standalone book. I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Cold Pursuit the last in Gayla Hiss's Peril in the Park Series, is a fast paced page turner full of mystery, intrigue and romance. Once started I couldn’t put it down and the story kept me guessing until the very end. All this with an almost magical setting, a White Christmas at Yellowstone, which is described in wonderful detail. The depth and intricacies of the characters relationships only heightened the suspense. Their faith was also evident throughout the book adding a special element. I highly recommend all the books in this series. As well as being great stand alone books, they contain much information about the featured national park. I received an ARC of this book but all the opinions in the review are my own.
Fair warning…after reading this book you’ll want to pack your bags for the trip to Yellowstone :) “By day, the giant fountain awed and dazzled with her power and spectacle. By moonlight, her water exploits became an enthralling, romantic dance, suspended between heaven and earth.” I’ve really enjoyed this fast pace suspense, which is beautifully written with great descriptive detail. I received an ARC of this book for review. I was not required to write a favorable review. All opinions in this review are my own.
Faith and her friend is in Yellowstone National Park for the Christmas Tour. Danger has followed her there. Also the person leading the tour is her ex boyfriend. She has a lot to deal with from the past.
The book has a lot of of suspense, I never did figure out who the bad guy was. Definitely a surprise. I definitely recommend reading this book.
I received an advanced copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write an positive review. This book review is my own opinion.
This mystery set in the winter wonderland of Yellowstone Park was a walk down memory lane for me. My husband and I took a snowmobile trip through the park many years ago. The book is well written with interesting characters but I felt like the mystery took a backseat to the wonders of the Park. I like this series a lot. I like the overlap of one character from the previous book in the series. It kept it interesting for me but each book easily stood alone and the action took place in a different National Park in each book.
I loved this series set in our amazing national parks! I’m sorry they have come to an end. I enjoyed all the suspenseful twists and turns in the stories and learned a lot about the parks and different events that were taking place in the stories. I enjoyed the different characters and sweet romances as well! My husband and I are trying to visit as many of the national parks as we can so the settings of these books were very interesting to me. Thanks Gayla!
Very good book. It contained suspense and little romantic interest. I could visualize the scenes of Yellowstone since we visited there 2 years ago, in the summer not winter. Well worthy of 5 stars.
I received an ARC of the book, but this is my honest opinion and I was not influenced by the advance copy.
Exciting book that kept me guessing. I had not previously read the three other books preceding this, but I certainly will now! Fast paced yet the sheer enjoyment of the spectacular scenery never made it seem rushed. I know I want to visit these sights, but I think I will try for fall, the cold there was punishing. Great story line and I am a sucker for second chance romances!
I love this book. It had it all. Mystery first love found. I never did figure the end out and that is a plus,I usually do. It was a supprise never saw it comming.
