A Favor for a Favor

Rate this book
From the New York Times bestselling author of Pucked and A Lie for a Lie, a new stand-alone romance about trading favors, battling wills, and winning love.

When I joined Seattle’s NHL expansion team, I thought it was the start of something great. But nothing ever goes the way you expect. Take my introduction to my new neighbor. She came rolling in on the hot mess express at midnight, making a racket while she tried to get into my team captain’s apartment. Did I mention that he’s married to a woman who definitely was not her?

Imagine my surprise when I end up with an injury that has me out of the game for weeks, and she’s the one to offer to help me. I should probably add that she’s not the captain’s mistress. She’s his sexy, pastel-haired younger sister.

So we come up with an arrangement: she rehabs me so that I can get back on the ice sooner, and she can add a professional athlete that isn’t her brother to her client list. Seems simple enough. As long as I can keep my hands to myself and my hormones in check.

A gritty romance filled with lustful banter between two characters that fight their attraction, but slowly open their hearts for more...

Okay, okay... I mean like HELLO?! Can Helena Hunting stop it with the perfection that is her writing? Officially my first favorite book of 2020 and I am not regretting anything... I mean, why would I? Helena never seems to disappoint you at all when it comes down to characters that seriously have the best of the best in chemistry. My gosh, nothing can go wrong with this book. Stevie and Bishop have this banter to them but has you twisting and turning for more of the story because all you want is for them to just rip their clothes off and rub against each other... yes... I said rub against each other. Obviously they do more than that **wink wink** and I just love everything about it.

From weirded topping pizza's, to boxer shorts that will have you drooling over what is packing on the inside—Helena brings a brand new witty banter of a novel that will bring your knees weak and wanting more of Stevie and Bishop. Especially when the truth prevails about who Stevie is related to, the one person in which Bishop dislikes the most. But that does not stop them from catching each other from far away, from each other's peep holes wanting to know who comes out first to get the paper, or from trying to deny that being just friends is just not enough for two people who's physical attraction is beyond more then just sex, but so much more. And that's the endearing part of it all, just loving more and more of what Stevie and Bishop become.

This romance novel is one that you do not want to miss out on. And yes, though it is part of a series, you can read it as a standalone, but I would not recommend doing so since the first novel is incredible as well! Thank you to SBPR for the copy, I am excited for everyone to throughly enjoy this story as much as I did... and my eyes and hands are ready for the third novel, because I can already tell that Kingston will be my ultimate favorite with how sweet and such a gentlemen he truly is. Helena, GIVE. ME. THAT. BOOK. RIGHT. NOW!

I need you to stop touching me!” It’s stupid because I’m still holding on to her, not the other way around.
“Why are you yelling at me?” she shouts back.
“Because you’re half-undressed in my tub,and I’m a guy, and apparently my dick is a fucking sadist. It honestly feels like my balls are on fire right now. A semi has literally never been this painful.” “Well, close your damn eyes and think about dead things.”

FAVORITE. HELENA HUNTING BOOK. EVER.

How do you even top this? This book was EVERYTHING. The blurb was amazing but it didn't even begin to do this justice. I loved the first in the series, but this story just owned me. It was enemies to lovers with a slow burn to beat all slow burns. It was full of banter and humor and all of the sizzle. GAH! I seriously can't right now with all of my feels!!

These two were easily my favorite characters that Helena Hunting has created to date.

Stevie is RJ's younger sister from A Lie for a Lie. She's feisty, sharp-witted, and currently trying to move on from walking in on her boyfriend having sex with another woman in their bed. The bed in the apartment they just moved into together. The apartment that they got because of a job they both got and will be working together at. Good times. As she runs away to lick her wounds, looking a hot mess, her brother offers up his condo to her. So of course as fate would have it, what happens when everything that can go wrong does and you're looking a hot mess trying to get the key to work to your temporary new gigs? You run into your ridiculously good looking but terribly tempered neighbor.

To say that these two get off on the wrong foot would be a serious understatement. While Stevie is dealing with her new normal, she now has to deal with her grumpy new neighbor that happens to assume that she's his married teammate's sidepiece. So suffice it to say, he's not that happy to see her. No matter that the relationship between RJ and Bishop is antagonistic at best.

These two begin an intricate dance of antagonism laced with enough sexual tension to set their condo building on fire. It's enemies to lovers at it's very best. With amazing banter, sizzling chemistry, and all of the funny barbs and one-liners. When Bishop gets dangerously hurt during a game, he's desperate to get back on his feet. And then Stevie offers him her help. She's a physiotherapist specializing in sports therapy. It's a great arrangement. A favor for a favor. She'd help get him back on the ice, and he'd give her the chance to work with her first professional athlete and make a name for herself without her brother's help. Thus begins an even more intricate dance of denying their chemistry as they're forced in tight quarters and to be around each other a lot more often.

Bishop was such an amazing hero. This man is brooding, and while looks are deceiving, he's not the typical man-whoring athlete. He takes care of his younger brother and focuses on his career. He has no time for a woman, until one quite literally stumbles into his life.

This was such a delicious story. I don't even have all of the words to describe how good. The chemistry was incendiary, the humor was on point, and the story was addictive. Pure perfection on pages. I can't recommend it enough. If you've been living under a rock and haven't read a Helena Hunting book yet, then this is the perfect one to hook you with!

For so many reasons we probably shouldn't fit together, but we do.

I am so happy I continued on with this series! After not loving the first book (it had my least favorite troupe :/, I was a bit anxious to try this one. I love Helena Hunting’s writing and humor, so I thought I’d give it a go and it paid off big time! I absolutely loved this. Stevie and Bishop were the best and their romance was so much fun!

If you’ve read the first book in this series (A Lie for a Lie) you’ve met Rook’s sister, Stevie, and his nemesis teammate, Bishop. This is their romance. Stevie and Bishop become neighbors when Stevie takes over Rook’s apartment. They have a bit of a tumultuous start to their friendship, but with time, they become friends. Or frienemies.

Bishop is a pro in the NHL and gets an injury and needs some extra PT to heal faster. Stevie just happens to be a PT. Stevie would love to have a pro-athlete on her client list (that’s not her brother) so these two decide to help each other out. A favor for a favor.

Stevie and Bishop had the most insane amount of chemistry. I loved how their relationship started a bit rocky, almost like an enemies, to friends, to lovers story. Stevie was fun and feisty and Bishop was my favorite type of broody hero, but as Stevie got to really know him, he showed her a different side to himself.
Bishop is a lot of things: sarcastic, assholey, determined, hotheaded, and a mammoth of a man. But his kiss is all the other parts of him I've gotten glimpses of over the past several weeks: sweet, gentle, soft.

This book reminded me of why I love Helena Hunting so much. I love her characters, I love her humor, and I love the way she pulls me into a story and has me so invested. I’ve just now read the blurb for the third book in this series (Kingston’s story) and OMG. I cannot wait for it!

A Favor for a Favor was a hilarious, sweet, emotional and sexy sports romance that I highly recommend!

writing: normal | plot: fun and light-hearted | ending: hea | spice: surprisingly slow burn

my opinion

Confession: I thought Helena Hunting was the same author who wrote The Heart Principle and I was like "oh wow, someone's got RANGE." Turns out she is in fact NOT Helena Hoang. My b.

Another hockey romance, Leigh? Yezzzirrrr!!! This was a quick workplace-ish hockey romcom. Take your thinking hat off for this one because we cannot normalize getting boners during physio sessions. I hate to say this, but it's truly a case of: if the feelings weren't mutual, this has #metoo written all over it.

If you're into KU hockey romcoms and don't mind a slow burn with only one full-on spicy scene AND you're a millennial, I would dub this a Honda Civic Reliable. Stevie and Bishop have great banter and chemistry, Bishop was decently normal for an MMC, and Stevie was only prone to a handful of pick-me tendencies. However, her thinking her ex wearing a tank-top (muscle shirts) between physio clients was endearing and Bishop calling her bae without irony... 3 life sentences to be served consecutively.

pros and cons

pros: easy, fun, and fluffy read (as long as you turn your critical thinking skills off), good pacing, subplot with Stevie's ex was handled well, good chemistry and banter between Bishop and Stevie

cons: veered into "dogs like bones, real men like meat" territory—or whatever tf that saying was (I ain't googling it), pretty much broke every HR rule globally

Overall Opinion: This was better than I expected! I really loved the slow progression into feelings and even bed for these two! I appreciated that they talked about the hard stuff when they were developing feelings to help me connect with the characters at a deeper level. I enjoyed their banter and how they went from instant dislike to much, much more. My biggest gripe is the end. It didn't give me nearly enough and was too close to the conflict being resolved for me to call it a HEA. Overall, a great surprise and a fun book!

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Stevie and Bishop's story. Stevie moved to Seattle for a new job and is shocked to find her boyfriend that she's moving in with with another woman. She takes her brother's empty condo that he gets for being a NHL player and meets Bishop the night she moves in. Bishop automatically assumes that Stevie is her brother's mistress and doesn't give her the nicest welcoming for moving across the hall. They start off a battle of sorts but when Bishop gets hurt in an off season game, Stevie decides to negotiate and change their relationship to a beneficial one for each of them since she is starting her physiotherapist career. There are some laugh out loud moments, a few hot sexy times, and some past baggage that effects the couple...but they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Stevie and Bishop's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H (Hero) rating: 4.5 stars. Bishop. I really liked him! He was broody but sweet on the inside and super caring (and sexy)!

h (heroine) rating: 4 stars. Stevie. I liked her. She was fun, sassy, and smart. I didn't, however, really like her when she was pushing the H away towards the end.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but only one big scene and not so much it takes away from the story. It doesn't happen until the second half of the book, so I'd say it's more of a slow burn with the heat.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes, but very short

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ended way too abruptly for me! I wanted to see their HEA!! I would call this a HFN ending even though many readers would probably be fine with calling this a HEA

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌏
Character development: 😳🤬😏🤓☺️

The Hero: Bishop Winslow - recent addition to Seattle’s expansion team. Bishop helps out his brother who is a college student and has type one diabetes. Bishop wants to make enough money playing pro hockey to set him and his brother up for life. However, his plans hit a snag when he injures his groin in a pre-season game.

The heroine: Stevie Beauman - pink haired sister of expansion team captain R.J. from A Lie for a Lie. Stevie recently finished her graduate degree in Physiotherapy with a focus in sports medicine. On her birthday, she comes home early to find her boyfriend with another woman.

The Story: Bishop meets Stevie in the hall of his penthouse apartment on the night when she catches her boyfriend. She was having a bad day and having to move into her brothers penthouse in the middle of the night wasn’t helping any. The two are immediately acrimonious and end up having a very odd relationship from the start.

Bishop doesn’t like wearing clothes while at home since he is always warm and has a thing for non-standard underwear. After seeing him in nothing but his shorts a few days in a row, she decides to give him a taste of his own medicine. I really enjoyed these two and their banter. And the intimate scenes were sizzling, especially due to the fact that his groin injury made them wait quite a while.

Helena Hunting does sports romance like nobody’s business and I loved every minute of it. I am not big on watching sports, but I do love Hockey and Hockey players. The narration is dual POV and dual narration, done by Jacob Morgan and Erin Mallon. Erin Mallon is great as usual. I like that she talks pretty fast and her man voice is much better than most female narrators and Jacob Morgan has a deep and sexy voice that I really enjoy.

This guy takes the jerk cake with his asinine accusations. Such an epic waste of hotness.

Stevie is the baby sister of Rook Bowman. Bishop is RJ’s teammate, arch-nemesis, and neighbor. Their first encounter is far from sweet and romantic. They spend the first couple of weeks as neighbors trying to antagonize each other. When Bowman suffers a painful injury during an exhibition game, it’s Stevie that comes to his rescue. Stevie has a master’s degree in physiotherapy and works at the local university. She offers to give him extra PT sessions to ensure a shortened recovery time. Bishop returns Stevie’s favor by pretending to be her boyfriend to help scare off her ex.

They easily fall into a comfortable routine and soon enough feelings are starting to blur the lines of professionalism. Stevie needs Bishop’s recommendation to get her into the physiotherapy field for professional athletes. Bishop has been ordered to keep things strictly professional with Stevie by his coach and her brother. Crossing that line could wind up jeopardizing their careers. Are they willing to risk it all for love?

Chapter One

BAD DAY

Stevie

As far as bad days go, this is one of the worst I’ve had in a very long time. I can get over the four-hour flight delay from LA to Seattle and sitting beside a man who smelled like old cheese and three-day-old underwear on the plane. But add in one of my suitcases taking a detour to Alaska—or maybe it’s Nunavut; who the hell knows?—and the fact that my remaining suitcase now has a broken handle and is missing a wheel, and this day just keeps getting worse.

The icing on this crap cake? Less than an hour ago I walked in on my boyfriend, Joey—now my ex—plowing into someone who wasn’t me on our brand-new living room couch. The one my brother bought for us as a housewarming gift. I guess that’s what I get for surprising Joey by arriving two days earlier than expected. On my birthday.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to come to Seattle and beat this douche down? I can leave first thing in the morning.” My brother RJ is at his in-laws’ house for the weekend, which is an hour and a half outside the city. That he’s this fired up on my behalf makes me feel marginally better about the whole thing.

However, my brother is an NHL player, and a father and a husband. Allowing him to beat up my ex for being a douche and a cheater may assuage my decimated ego and help heal my broken heart, but it’s not a great idea. For one, if RJ lays a beatdown, there’s a good chance he’ll wind up charged with assault. Then his face will be splashed all over the media, Joey will make a spectacle, and I’ll get dragged into it. The last thing I want is my face on social media in connection with my famous brother and my slimy ex. So as much as Joey might deserve a broken nose and black eye, I’ll say no thanks to the potential fallout. “I sincerely appreciate your willingness to engage in violence on my behalf, but I don’t think it’s worth the assault and battery charge.”

“I hate that you’re dealing with this on your own, and on your birthday, Stevie. If I’d known you were coming early, I would’ve planned for us to be around this weekend. What if I come get you and bring you back to Lainey’s parents’ for a few days?”

“It was a last-minute change of plans.” And obviously not a great one. “And it’s nice of you to offer, but the fact that you’re setting me up with a place to crash is more than enough.” I sincerely love my brother, but I am definitely not interested in hanging out with his in-laws during my postbreakup moping phase. “Besides, I start work at the clinic on Monday, so that would be a lot of back-and-forth for no reason. I promise I’ll be fine.” I watch the numbers flip by as the elevator ascends. Soon I’ll be able to have a nice little meltdown after my craparific day. “I’m almost at the apartment. Why don’t I call you in the morning?”

“Okay. I’ll be up for a while longer, so if you run into any problems getting in, send me a message. The lock system is tricky until you get the hang of it.”

“I’m sure it’ll be fine; thanks again, RJ.”

“Anytime, Stevie. You know that. I’m really sorry. Happy birthday, kiddo. We’ll have dinner, and I’ll get your favorite cake when we’re back in town, okay?”

“Sure, sounds good. Thanks again. Love you, bro.” I end the call and tip my chin up to keep the tears from falling.

The elevator chimes its arrival at the penthouse floor. I suppose the one plus to finding out my now ex-boyfriend is a cheater is that I get to stay in a much nicer place. At least until I can find a new apartment.

I adjust the broken handle of my suitcase as the doors slide open and roll-drag it and myself out of the elevator. I’m exhausted times a million and looking forward to a cathartic snot sob session. A pint or five of ice cream would also be nice.

I wish I could adequately appreciate the splendor of the open foyer, but my morose mood does not allow me that indulgence. As I step onto the soft, luxurious carpet, the broken wheel of my suitcase gets caught in that two-inch gap where the doors open.

“Seriously?” I yank on it, struggling to dislodge the broken wheel while the doors start to close, bumping against my bag before they slide open again. I toss my purse on the floor so I can wrestle it free, but it’s jammed in there good and tight. The elevator beeps loudly, signaling that the doors have been open too long.

It’s late, almost midnight, and I’m hoping these walls are soundproof because I’m causing quite a ruckus. My suitcase finally pulls free, and I stumble back, tripping over my purse and landing on my ass. At least the carpet is soft and the floor is clean. I lie there for a few seconds, waiting for a piano or a safe to fall from the ceiling and land on top of me, because it’s been that kind of a day.

When nothing else bad happens—for now—I pick myself up off the floor and decide the best way to deal with my suitcase is to slide it across the carpet to avoid making more of a racket than I have already. Unlike in a regular apartment building, there is no long hallway on the penthouse floor. Instead there are four doors in the open foyer—two on the left and two on the right—making it easy to locate apartment 4004. I guess that means it’ll be quiet, if nothing else.

In the middle of the foyer is a glass-topped table with an enormous arrangement of flowers, which accounts for the heavy perfume smell. I skirt the table as I slide my bag across the carpet toward my temporary new home, then remember my purse is still sitting on the floor by the elevators.

The key card they issued at the front desk seems to have migrated to the bottom of my bag. I shift around the contents searching for it, but it’s like it belongs to Mary Poppins with how much crap I have in there. I use my suitcase as a chair, the flimsy plastic exterior cracking loudly as my ass hits it. Oh well; it was destined for the garbage anyway with how mangled it is. A jagged piece pokes me in the butt, but I’m too tired to move.

The key card and my phone have both magically disappeared into a quarter-size hole in the lining of my purse. It takes me forever to fish them back out. I pull up the instructions on how to open the door, since apparently this building’s key system requires a step-by-step explanation. After dragging myself to my feet, I key in the six-digit code, swipe the card, and turn the handle, but all it does is beep at me.

“I just want to lie down,” I mutter to the door. I give the code a second shot, but I get another longer, louder beep. “What the hell? Why won’t you open?” I whisper-yell. Each time I make an attempt to get in, the beep grows louder and longer while my patience wears thinner.

I yank on the handle, frustrated. I don’t want to call RJ again because I should be able to open a damn door on my own. I’m probably missing something small. Also, it’s late, and he has a toddler who doesn’t always sleep through the night and loves to get up at ass o’clock in the morning. Kody is super adorable, though, so his rooster-level early rising is mostly tolerable.

The door directly across the hall swings open. Awesome. Now I’ve woken my temporary neighbor. Talk about bad first impressions. I turn with the intention of issuing an apology, but my mouth is suddenly desert dry.

A man stands in the open doorway. A very, very large man. My brother is a big guy; he towers over everyone with his six feet two inches. But this annoyed-looking man’s head barely clears the doorframe. He’s also broad. Excessively broad. He’s an excessive amount of man in general.

Beyond being ridiculously tall and broad, and irritated based on his scowl, all he’s wearing is a pair of boxer briefs. I might be able to get over his overwhelming size and his insanely gorgeous dark-brown, sleep-tousled hair complemented by fiery hazel eyes, a rugged square jaw, and full lips. I can also deal with all that toned muscle and his rippling abs and bulging biceps, finished off with a nice dusting of hair that leads my eye from his navel—it’s an innie—down to his boxer briefs. But that’s where I get stuck, because his crotch has the phrase BEWARE OF FALLING ROCKS with a rockslide right where his peen should be. So now it looks as if I’m checking out his package. I kind of am.

“What the hell is going on? It’s almost fucking midnight, and you’re out here making a goddamn racket. Some of us are trying to sleep.” His voice is deep, gritty, and loud. He crosses his bulky arms over his cut chest, which should help cover up some of the nakedness but only seems to draw attention to how thick his arms are.

Also. Wow. Talk about hostile.

“Sorry. I’m having some problems with my key card and my suitcase.” I flash the key card and motion to my destroyed bag. I’m suddenly super sweaty. Likely from embarrassment over getting chewed out by a hot guy in his underwear.

Hot-underwear man scoffs. He doesn’t acknowledge my apology. Nor does he offer his assistance or tone down the dickbagness. “Where the fuck you get that key from?”

“How is that any of your business?” I scroll through my messages, trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong with the key card and the code so I can get into the apartment and away from this grade A asshole extraordinaire.

“It’s my business because you’re up here on my floor making an unnecessary amount of noise, and I’d put money on it that you paid someone off for that key card.”

I pause my message scroll so I can glare at him more effectively. “Excuse me?” This guy takes the jerk cake with his asinine accusations. Such an epic waste of hotness.

He tips his chiseled chin up, glares down at me, and jabs a finger in my direction. He really is intimidating. “Which one of the security guys did you pay off? Or were there other favors involved?”

“Favors? What are you even talking about?” I’m super confused right now.

Underpants a-hole leans against the doorjamb, smirking as his eyes move over me. I’m wearing jeans and a T-shirt with a cartoon birthday cake on it. My hair is tucked into a beanie since I’ve been traveling all day and the humidity has not been kind to it. “You think I haven’t seen this a million times? Chicks are always bribing security for keys to get up here.”

“I did not—”

He cuts me off before I can put him in his place. “Look, sweet cheeks, I don’t know what you’ve been snorting or mainlining or whatever, but there’s no way you’re getting in there without a code. And even if you do, I’m gonna go ahead and say that this whole shitshow”—he points to his face and motions toward me—“is one hell of a boner-killer, so stop embarrassing yourself and take your broke-down ass back the way you came.”

Did he just say my face is a boner-killer? I have so had it with assholes tonight.

A little slow and boring in places.

I liked the hero tho.

The heroine was.. ok, but the whole drama about how being the sister of a famous hockey player ruined her life.. was annoying to say the least. People have real issues you know?

I liked the first book better, and I’m looking forward to the next one because I liked what I’ve seen of King’s character so far.

This book was definitely better than book 1 and I do enjoy the brother’s rival trope almost every single time.
I loved that Stevie really focused on herself and that this book was slow burn but I didn’t feel that much chemistry between the two mcs.
I was baffled when they first admitted feelings to only themselves cause I kept thinking “when?” Since he was so rude to her the entire time.
I also detested her brother in this book and the few times that violet showed up I was annoyed.

Bishop Winslow is an NHL player for the brand new expansion team in Seattle. He’s getting used to a new team, and settling into a new routine. He needs his sleep, so he’s not too thrilled when a hot mess of a woman is making all kinds of noise at midnight trying to get into his team captain’s penthouse apartment. He automatically thinks the worst of her. He later learns his new pink haired neighbor is his teammate’s little sister, but not before he makes a terrible first impression.

Stevie Bowman is a 24 yr. old woman who is fresh from graduate school and about to start her new job as a physiotherapist. She’s just arrived in Seattle, and nothing goes as planned. She’s an emotional mess, and her professional hockey star brother offers up his empty apartment for her to stay in. When she’s at her lowest, she meets her insanely hot new neighbor who is also full of attitude. He might be a jerk with a horrible personality, but he sure is easy on the eyes.

Suddenly Bishop is benched after he gets injured. He needs to get back on the ice sooner rather than later, so when his feisty neighbor offers her PT skills to him, he will do anything to heal faster. This includes trying to be professional, and resist the undeniable attraction between them.

Rehabbing an NHL player will be great for Stevie’s career, but trying to ignore the chemistry that sizzles every time she puts her hands on him is about to drive her crazy. He’s a gorgeous man, and it’s hard to pretend she doesn’t want him desperately. As they get more attached, and their connection grows, they have trouble fighting their feelings.

A Favor For A Favor (All In Book 2) by Helena Hunting is a fantastic enemies to lovers sports romance. 5 PINEAPPLE AND OLIVE CROWNS

This. This book is why I love Helena’s writing. It is comical romantic and filled with unique and interesting characters. I truly enjoyed every character and moment between Stevie and Bishop.

Stevie is a heroine who is totally relatable. The reader understands how hard it would be to live in the shadow of your famous brother and to always question people’s motives. I enjoyed her temperament and her choices, and I loved her as an individual.

Bishop is a bit surly, which is understandable based on his current athletic and life changes. He has a lot riding on his shoulders, and he carries it without complaint. I truly loved the side of him that Stevie brought out, more fun and light hearted. I fell in love with him and he fell in love with her.

Some couples just have it on the page, and Stevie and Bishop do. From the banter to the sexual tension, I was enthralled by the evolution of their relationship. It was a fantastic and entertaining romance that I couldn’t put down.

Helena Hunting has a knack for taking unique and interesting characters and giving them depth, real 3d layers to who they are. Their flaws are relatable, the characters are lovable, and she gives a romance that is applicable to all people. That is why she is a favorite of mine.

I'm listening to the audiobook for this book.

▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️

I have to say that I'm a little obsessed with these audiobooks 😂😂😂.

I was with these books on my TBR like forever, and after a few really busy days, I've started this series.

I'm glad that I've listened in order, because if I have read this book first, I would hate RJ and would never read his book. 😂😂😂

But about Stevie and Bishop...
They started with a really wrong foot, since he thought that she was RJ's sidepiece, and couldn't stop of being a real asshole to her.

She didn't back up and fight him at every turn, meaning their exchanges and (hallway underwear) exchanges, became a really funny thing.

This book is a reaaaally slow burn.
They start as enemies, and then evolve to a mutual agreement, since she's a physical therapist and he's injured.
But after a few weeks working together, they start to become friends...
It's really sweet how they both struggle to accept their feelings, but my missing start is also for the same motive.

It took too long to them to really BE together, and just for only a chapter before they separate again.
It was a bone killer, as Bishop said. 😂

Love the cameos, and Violet is still crazy and always pregnant!

I love how it ended though.

“Everyone has a demon or two, Stevie. You just gotta learn how to live with them and find other people who think all your good parts outweigh the bad.”

The audiobook's narrators did an amazing job!

5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the audio.
4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the story.

At this point I think I'm the problem when it comes to MF books...

My theory after reading this is: I can't connect with this women!! I just can't, they are physically perfect and I know is hypocrite of me to say when in MM I don't bat an eye at this, (even though I do love a normal MC btw), but I really don't. This girl was athletic, she liked to do exercises people!!! The only way I enjoy walking is when I'm shopping!! She was also really plain, apart from that fact I can't point another aspect of her personality that stood out for me... So that's reason two of why MF ain't working in my criteria. 🤔🤔

Reason three would be boring and cliché, it was in some parts, nothing outstanding to read here.

Reason four, writers need to stop using public shows of affection as a way to do "comedy", it ain't fun just makes me cringe at how awkward is written.

"I keep my eyes on the bruises on the inside of his leg. There’s a purpose for this, and it’s to make Joey uncomfortable.
As I massage the area, Bishop groans, loudly. “Ahh yeah, right there. Fuuuuck, Stevie, that’s it, that’s the spot. Jesus Christ, ah shit, oh Gaaawwwwwd, gentle, gentle, yeah, just like that, uuunnnngggghhhhh.”

It's that supposed to be funny? Nop, no no no no.

Now, why read this? 🙃🙃 It was entertaining enough? Had it's moments I can't deny that. Not something that will change your life but, it's not trash either. 😁😁😁

Am I the problem? 🤔

Stevie just moved to Seattle - she's a physical therapist fresh out of college. She's also fresh out of boyfriends. She caught her ex cheating - on her birthday, and unfortunately he's working at her new clinic too!

Stevie is staying in her big brother's penthouse. (Rook from the first book just moved into a family home with his wife and baby son.)

Stevie's new next door neighbor is the cherry on top of her crappy life at the moment!

He's running around in his underwear all day long insulting her and looking all hot and sexy doing it.

Bishop is playing for the same hockey team Stevie's brother is playing for - but they're not really friends - at all. Bishop hasn't really found his place on the team yet. And now his thoughts are more on his sexy new neighbor instead of on the game! Plus he's worried about his sick brother / roommate Nolan. PLUS - he's about to be off the ice for weeks, due to a groin injury .... enter physical therapist neighbor Stevie ...

LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN ...

What will happen with Stevie & Bishop?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! ☺

ADORABLE!

Another adorable and funny and sparky and sexy Helena Hunting romance!

I just adored Stevie and Bishop - or Shippy - as his brother calls him! LOL!

Stevie and Bishop kind of hate each other on sight. But in Bishop's case, it could be excused, he thought she was a puck bunny trying to break into Rook's apartment!

Their 'courtship' is so hilariously adorable for the reader. I just loved watching them fight and flirt and argue!

Amazing Rom-Com!

Of course we have some not-so-funny problems too - like brother Nolan's disease and Shippy's injury and Stevie's idiot ex and how Stevie's brother kinda hates Bishop.

I felt that Stevie's behavior regarding the whole having-a-famous-brother/boyfriend thing is a bit exaggerated and silly and immature. Ok - it made her highschool time horrible, but still, she's a grown up now and I think she's just too weird about that whole thing. That bothered me a bit, especially toward the end - but at least we don't have this extreme ridiculous over the top misunderstanding or fight or whatever other books love to have! ☺

I still really loved reading it.

Also - Pucked Violet is in it a few short times - in all her unfiltered glory! LOL!☺

A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR was such an adorable + hilarious Hockey Romance!!! I loved it!! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Shippy - he'll be sold out in no time - and this one is MINE!

“And how does Bishop look at me?”
“Like he wants to hold your hand.” She pauses, her smile widening at my eye roll. “And shove it down the front of his pants.”

Enjoyable slow burn hockey romance from Helena Hunting. Stevie is RJ’s (hero from A Lie for a Lie) little sister, but she doesn’t want to be known as that. Bishop is RJ’s teammate, but he also doesn’t want to be known as that. All jokes aside this one starts with a misunderstanding, some barely dressed morning strut off, and a bruised crotch. Really the book does have those things, but it’s more about a slow burn love story between two people who were not looking to fall for each other and did. Slowly but oh so surely.

I think I might have to give up on this series. I thought that A Lie for a Lie was just okay, but this was just boring. With the synopsis giving up a super funny meet cute, I seriously thought I would enjoy this. I never cared for either one of our main characters. They felt so cookie cutter and had nothing alluring about them.

My two biggest issues were RJ from book one and how the blame was shifted to Bishop. While I didn’t love RJ from A Lie for a Lie, I thought he was okay. In this book, I REALLY didn’t like him, He came off so pretentious and thought everything was about him. I was over him and his self absorbed self. When things came to light, everything was blamed on Bishop as if he did everything himself. I didn’t like or agree with that. It takes two to tango but everyone was like “poor Stevie”. Y’all, I can’t.

Overall, this felt like it took forever for me to get through and I can’t recommend it. I doubt I’ll even remember this book for the plot in about two weeks.

We started with lies and now it's time for favors.. And let me tell you, when it involves a hot grumpy hockey player, I am oh-so-ready for it! I fell in love all over again with Helena Hunting after reading the first in the series and the second installment is just as delicious. Get ready for this slow burn sports romance because it's a wonderful experience you don't want to miss!

A Favor for A Favor is the second book in Helena's All In series and it follows the story of Stevie Bowman and Bishop Winslow. Stevie is RJ's sister and she is not at her best moment. Her boyfriend just cheated on her and her new neighbor is a grumpy man who is not much a fan of clothes (besides ridiculous underwear). Both make assumptions about each other and that starts the animosity between them. Bishop gets injured while playing and now he needs Stevie to help him with his recovery. That’s the start of their slow burn sexual tension and angsty love story.

From across the hall his body is a lot to handle visually, but this close, good God, this man is stacked. Muscles layer over muscles, everything tight and defined. He’s just... a lot.

And that is what makes A Favor for A Favor such a beautiful story: the slow burn and the emotions together with Helena's humor and these amazing characters. The development of Stevie and Bishop's relationship from hate to friendship to love was so well done. All the moments and chemistry between these two are to die for and the whole story keeps you so entertained and hooked to it that I just could not stop reading!

Bishop is a lot of things: sarcastic, assholey, determined, hotheaded, and a mammoth of a man. But his kiss is all the other parts of him I’ve gotten glimpses of over the past several weeks: sweet, gentle, soft. At first, anyway.

Of course, leaving aside how I also loved to catch up with this whole crew of awesome hilarious people, the best thing about this book is the couple. I love how Stevie and Bishop grow together and peel the layers of their personalities with each other. And when that slow burn finally explodes, OMG! So hawt and just so intense! There is also a bit of drama that kept me at the edge of my seat towards the end but I completely understand what and why it happens and it makes the happy ending so much sweeter.

“My whole world is better with you in it, Stevie.”
“Mine too.”

Therefore, my rating for A Favor for A Favor is 4.5 STARS because it’s the perfect addition to the All In series. A fantastic enemies to lovers romance, with a couple with burning chemistry, funny moments, great secondary characters and all the feels! Helena Hunting keeps surprising me and I am so glad I decided to read this series. Now I literally cannot wait for the third book, it sounds forbidden and I am all over it already!

Just to begin with, Stevie is the younger sister of RJ who we previously met in a Lie for a Lie and although they don’t NEED to be read in order I will suggest you do because you’ll love the brother as much as you’ll love the sister in this book.

After an incident with an ex Stevie is left with no where to stay and no one to go to except her brother who just so happens to have a penthouse empty but once see gets there she meets the neighbour, the neighbour who isn’t too friendly. As things get off on the wrong foot Stevie stands her ground and gives him as much as he gives her. She’s badass and won’t take shit from anyone especially not him.

Bishop is an NHL player, he’s big and intimating and a huge asshole. After getting a hit in hockey he’s out with an injury and help comes in form of an unexpected woman. He’s cranky and irritated almost always but he’s damn hot whilst being that way. I love how he is on the outside and is completely different on the inside. There’s more to this man than meets the eye and it’s fun getting to see it.

The back and forth between these two is absolutely brilliant, I absolutely love banter between characters and these two hit it on the head. I loved every moment we get between them. Their funny moments, the sensitive moments, just everything. They’re so different in many ways but similar in others, they compliment each other well and they’re just perfect. They were both struggling with real issues throughout this book and although it’s sad to read I love that Helena included them.

I also adore that their relationship was gradual, slow and steady throughout the book, there was no rush for them to bed each other and the build up was just spot on.

RJ makes quite a few appearances in this book and I love it. He’s protective and cares so much for Stevie like a big brother should. He’s made some mistakes but we see him make up for them. Also I just want to add in Kingston, I truly hope we get a story from this man because he intrigued me so much. He’s kind of reminds me of Darren (Pucked Over) he keeps himself to himself and honestly, that makes me want to hear his story more.

Helena truly did an incredible job of bringing Stevie and Bishop’s story to life. This is actually my favourite from this series so far even though I loved RJ and Lainey’s book so much.

A Favor for A Favor is a sports romance filled with fun moments and sad times. It’s a gripping romance that’ll leave you needing more and it’s without a doubt one of the greatest books of 2019/2020

A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR is book two in All in series, a hockey romance that can be read as standalone.

In this installment, we follow heroine Stevie, who we know from book one as the sister of a leading male character, and Bishop a hockey player who is playing with heroine's brother in the NHL team.
It is a slow burn romance, where these two are friends firsts after clearing mistaken identity from the beginning of this book. AfterBishop gets injured Stevie offers to help him as she is a physiotherapist.

I liked the banter and chemistry between our leading couple. Their little pranks are very entertaining. The pace of the story is good and makes it easy to keep up. It is also a story that will keep your attention.
In my opinion, it is better than book one. Also, I am interested in reading more about some of the side characters, especially Kingston. I hope he gets his book.

I loved how their relationship progressed from hate at first sight to friendship to falling in love.
This book is very funny. With some important subjects in it as well.
I am especially appreciated that we see diabetes representation. Something that is very important and rarely seen in novels I have read so far.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion.

When it comes to hockey-themed romances, Helena Hunting is undoubtedly my absolute favorite author and having such great adoration for the Pucked couples, I wasn't sure the All In series could measure up. So thrilled that I was incredibly wrong. After devouring A Lie for A Lie, I was excited to jump into her upcoming release. A Favor for A Favor had everything I relish while reading one of this author's tales - A cast of colorful and looney characters; A broody-hot and lovable hero; A spirited and sassy heroine; Comical banter that had me chuckling as well as a captivating story-line brimming with sexual tension and off the charts slow-burning chemistry. From this couple's awkward beginnings to witnessing them fall hopelessly in love, I've enjoyed every moment of Bishop and Stevie's journey.

Meeting RJ (Rookie) Bowman's little sister in the first installment, I immediately liked her spunky character. A recent graduate who's down on her luck, Stevie is determined to establish a career in the sports field as a physical therapist without the help of her famous brother. A strong-willed, intelligent, quirky, and witty tough gal who possessed a gentle and vulnerable side, she embodied everything I admire in a strong heroine. And when challenged to a face-off with her beyond vexing and contentious new neighbor Bishop, the plucky Stevie is not easily intimidated to go toe-to-toe with him. I love how she's fearless and unafraid to combat her belligerent (but funny) adversary. The banter between these two was hysterical.

When Bishop suffers from an on-ice injury and in desperate need to speed up his recovery, Stevie is there to turn his misfortune into an opportunity to put her therapy skills to work. It's only a matter of time that these two enemies foster a friendship bursting with heaps of sexual tension, which eventually leads to something more.

Bishop "Ship" Winslow was a hunk of a hockey player that I totally fell for, but I have to admit, it wasn't easy. First impressions of Ship were not favorable as he was judgy, offensive, abrasive and hot-headed.

However, it didn't take me long to love him and see all the sweetness hidden beneath the brawn. A guy with loads of responsibilities and worries, Ship's priorities were his career as well as taking good care of his brother Nolan. Deep down, he was a big-hearted guy and once the animosity towards Stevie waned, it was a treat to see the loving, passionate, and gentle side of this hero. Together, they made for an adorable couple.

Another fun and light-hearted romantic comedy from Hunting that I thoroughly enjoyed, this was a fantastic read. Flirty, sexy and amusing, A Favor for A Favor quickly became another favorite for me. I loved seeing some old friends from the Pucked series - now older and more mature - as well as getting to know some new and exciting characters. And Shippy's boxer shorts... absolutely ridiculous and hilarious. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.

Spoilers ahead, 2* rounded up because of a non manwhore hero

I liked
The snarky banter between the h and H
His underwear collection
Non manwhore grumpy H
Relationship took a while to develop, this was important because the h had only recently come out of a year long relationship
HEA (sorta as we see them engaged)

I didn't like
The h had no backbone with anyone else in her life, she stood up to the H just fine but couldn't tell her ex and her brother what she needed to
The ex was present almost throughout the entire book trying to win her back after she caught him cheating. It's not till almost the bitter end that she told him off
h was immature at times and I didn't like the way she dealt with certain things
I got bored a lot
Some references I could've done without
Good sexual tension, sucky sexy times
Epilogue of only a few months out but I'm assuming they'll show up in other books

All in all this was pretty ok

Non manwhore H
h met him on the same night she caught her ex cheating
No cheating
OW drama only in the sense that the h saw numerous women leaving his apartment and assumed he was a manwhore but he wasn't
OM drama from the h's ex who just wouldn't go away

WOWZA! Helena Hunting has done it again. There is nothing I love more than a moody, broody, growly alpha and Bishop was all of that to a T! He was absolute perfection. Brusque on the outside but a big fluffy teddy bear on the inside. I loved his connection with Stevie. She was a girl after my own heart — sassy and sexy. Together they were the perfect combination!

I was so excited to read Stevie's book because I loved RJ in A Lie For A Lie and was so intrigued about reading his sister's book. Down on her luck, when Stevie  decides to stay at her brother's empty penthouse she could never have expected to encounter a surly neighbor in the form of Bishop. Their banter was AMAZING and I was here for their sexual tension all day! I could not get enough!

Here’s what I loved most:
The banter — I’m an addict for great banter and this book delivered in a major way.
The chemistry - this coupling is one of my top faves.
The writing - this author always delivers a witty, well plotted novel, that not only interests me, but is beyond entertaining.

Overall, this story had Heart, Humor and Heat and I loved every single minute of it. Stevie and Bishop were fantastic together and I seriously can not wait for more from this author in the All In series!!

5 Stars!!

I absolutely adore the PUCKED series by Helena Hunting and these spin-off books are seriously giving me life. A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR is Bishop and Stevie story and it is FREAKING HILARIOUS. The hubs kept asking me what I was laughing at, but when I tried to explain he just looked at me like I was losing my damn mind. Helena really has such a special gift, and I can’t get enough of her words; her stories and characters never fail to make me smile. I really hope there’s going to be more because I’m not ready for it to be over yet.

This was a cute slow burn hockey romance , and when I say slow burn.. I mean very very slow, but very enjoyable nonetheless.
After a awkward and tense first meeting , Bishop and Stevie start to play games with eachother , the chemistry between then is palpable, they form a friendship but in the end both want more.
The banter and comebacks are hilarious , blue balls for a month in Bishops case worth 🤣.
Bishop is the broody, grumpy , moody type of guy, but with a gentle and soft side once with get to know him. Stevie is funny, strong willed and the perfect match to his asshole remarks lol. They complete eachother and make a really cute couple.

Now... can someone tell me where Bishop bought all his funny underwear?? I plan to make hubby wear one of those everyday! 🤣🤣

A Favor for a Favor (All In Book #2) by Helena Hunting is a contemporary romance that will have you laughing out loud and/or teary eyed more times than you can count throughout this fun and entertaining read. This is the second book in the “All In” series featuring alpha professional hockey jocks from Seattle’s new expansion NHL team, but it is easily read as a standalone romance.

Stevie Bowman is excited to surprise her boyfriend returning from her trip early to her and her boyfriend’s new apartment in time for her birthday. But the surprise is on her when she walks in and finds him in bed having sex with someone else.

Her brother, Rook helps her out by letting her live in his team apartment he is not using while she gets back on her feet. As she stumbles in late at night, she wakes her neighbor, who is not happy to be woken up. Stevie just wants to hide and get away from this jerk of a neighbor.

Bishop Winslow cannot believe his strait-laced team captain is keeping a side piece in his apartment. He already hates that Rook was made team captain instead of him and this makes it even worse. Imagine his surprise when he finds out the mistress is actually the hot younger sister.

Bishop suffers a severe groin injury in the very first pre-season game. Stevie offers Bishop a deal. She will assist with his rehab so he can return to the ice sooner, if he will give her a letter of recommendation which will help advance her career in sport physiotherapy. Can they keep it strictly professional?

I absolutely love Bishop and Stevie. They are perfect examples of “do not judge someone because you don’t know what they are going through privately.” The underwear war had me laughing out loud.

I am fast becoming a huge fan of Helena Hunting’s romances. The characters are realistic, full-fleshed and the dialogue is pitch perfect. She captures the sex appeal and down-and-dirty language and foibles of young professional male athletes. The women she creates are strong, but surprisingly quirky and/or have an emotional impediment that I would never think would work as a match for these men and yet each is the perfect match.

I highly recommend this contemporary romance and author!
