Fall. Autumn. It doesn't matter what you call it, I hate it. I despise pumpkins, Halloween, and the overwhelming sense of dread as the cold and damp move in. But when my new chauffeur drives up in a hearse, Halloween carols blaring, I realize there will be no escape from the holiday. Penny is the self-proclaimed Queen of Fall. And it's her mission to turn me into a pumpkin spice fiend. Penny Fall is the best time of the year! I love pumpkin spice everything, cozy scarves, and nostalgic movies. But most of all, I love Halloween. My quaint home town of Harrogate is the perfect place to celebrate the holiday. We're the original Halloween town. We have celebrations all month! I should be more excited, except that I'm going back to Harrogate after failing to make it as a journalist in Manhattan. Instead of living out my dreams, I'm living in a dilapidated Victorian house with creepy identical twins, a black cat named Salem, and a snobby ghost. I also have a new temp job with a sexy, but grouchy billionaire who is determined to make me quit. Garrett is in desperate need of some Halloween cheer. But as much as I want to take him in the back of my hearse and have my way with him (okay that's a little creepy!) I can't be distracted by his washboard abs. I'm up to my eyeballs in debt. The mean girl from high school is now my mean coworker and is trying to wreck my life. My mother wants me to write a juicy tell-all about Garrett and his huge family. Yep, I’m going to trick the cold-blooded billionaire. I know I need to stick with the plan and weasel enough information out of my boss to write a killer article for a big payday. But when Garrett says in that deep, sexy voice, "Nice costume." Instead of playing a trick, I'd rather give him a treat! This standalone, full length romantic comedy has no cliffhangers! It features plenty of steam, the largest selection of hot brothers to ever grace your e-reader, and a multitude of Halloween innuendos!
if you aren’t a fan of smutty books or they make you uncomfortable i think you’ll enjoy this book but until a certain point. it’s really angsty and cute in the beginning but around 30% is where the smut kicks in. but if you’re like me and you love smut you’re literally going to love this book. it’d cute and reads like a hallmark movie but steamy. i should be posting a video review soon so be on the look out for that!
I RARELY give books 1 star because I believe that people don't intentionally write crappy books. It took every ounce of self-control in my body not to give this book one star.
What I liked about the book: ONE THING. The quirky small-town energy. It was Stars Hollow mixed with Halloween Town.
Things that I didn't like: 1. The tone gave me whiplash: Garrett (the MMC) and his MANY brothers-I’m not kidding, I think there were at least 12 of them-grew up in a polygamist cult. I've read rom coms that deal with heavy subject matters. That's not the problem. The problem was the abrupt tone shifts throughout the romance. Garrett would open up about his childhood and his terrible father and the next scene is like LALALALALALALALA QUIRKY HALLOWEN ANTICS LALALA. It was jarring.
2. All the characters were one dimensional. I get it, the townspeople were supposed to be "quirky", but they didn't even seem human. The novels two villains, a high school mean girl (who is somehow still a mean girl as an adult. tragic), and an absentee mother (who's probably a sociopath) are just straight up awful. They are cartoon villains.
3. Both MCs were insufferable. It's supposed to be a grump/sunshine situation, but Penny was a doormat and Garrett was kind of a dick? And it didn’t help that their dynamic was so childish. I lost count at how many times Penny is described as sticking her tongue out at Garrett.
4. The smut wasn't even quality smut. It’s not a clean romance, there are plenty of REPETITIVE sex scenes but they're all mid 🥴
THIS BOOK DID NOT NEED TO BE MORE THAN 300 PAGES. IT SHOULD'VE BEEN A DAMN NOVELLA. THE 3RD ACT CONFLICT HAD BEEN RESOLVED. WHY DID WE SPEND 30+ PAGES ON TRICK OR TREAT-ING?!?
I didn't even have the energy for a full-blown rant review lmao I'm just glad it's over.

Whenever I scroll through amazon an Alina Jacobs books shows up in my feed. I’ve been seeing her books for months and never thought to pick one up until I saw she had a Halloween/Fall themed romcom. Now, the rest is history. 𝗜 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡 𝗜 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘! In Her Pumpkin Patch is HILARIOUS, goofy, cozy, unique, and actually FEELS like a Halloween themed novel. The Halloween stuff isn’t just sprinkled in either, it is FULL ON EVERY SINGLE PAGE. Pumpkin Spice lattes, spooky ghosts who may be haunting her home, fall festivals, Halloween themed foods, and so much more. 𝗜𝗙 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔 𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗗 𝗡𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗟 this is the book you NEED!I am now completely obsessed with this world and went ahead and bought not only the first book in this series (they can each standalone), but one of her Christmas novels as well. I can’t wait!
So, what’s this story about? This is certainly a billionaire romcom, no doubt about that. The hero, Garrett Svensson has more money than he knows what to do with and lucky has no problem spending it to take care of his MASSIVE family. He has so many brothers (I can’t even count or remember the actual number) because his father raised him in a polygamous cult, and he does whatever he can to save the ones that are still in the compound. One of his little brothers is actually the one that led him to Penny (the Halloween fanatic heroine) when on a train ride.
Penny LOVES Halloween. She wears themed clothes, bakes themed treats, and has a knack for decorating spaces for this holiday. When she takes a temp job at the Svensson brothers’ company she has no idea that the grouchy man she met at the train station would be her new boss. He for one doesn’t care for her favorite holiday and has no interest in anything related to it. But this feisty redhead has other plans for him. Bringing this Grinch to find joy in this fun holiday is one of her missions! Can these two fall in love despite their differences? And will one minor secret (okay, it’s a bit more than minor) change their budding romance forever? You’ll have to read to find out!
All in all, I freakin loved this book and I can’t wait to read more. I love a romcom and this one takes things to a whole new level. 𝗜 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗬 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗜𝗧!
1.5/2 stars, this book was definitely a disappointment for me unfortunately. I was excited to read a Halloween romance and while I enjoyed the Halloween aspect of it (and there was a lot of that with 2 Halloween parties, a fall festival and trick or treating) I didn’t enjoy the romance at all. I understand it was suppose to start as the “sunshine/grumpy” trope but Pennys character was insufferably bubbly, I hated how everything she said was followed by an exclamation point. My other biggest complaint about the romance was that Garrett and Penny had no emotional connection, it was all sexual. I’m a big fan of smut but this book was basically just Halloween porn, after around 40% it was like a sex scene every chapter but you know what they say about quality over quantity? Yeah. The sex scenes were super quick (and penny would reach an orgasm like a few sentences in quick.. like come on). Then there was Garrett who rarely complimented Penny in any way other than about how sexy her body was, and was obsessed with drinking his coffee with plastic straws because he loathed paper straws or metal straws (gross). Garrett’s redeeming quality is that he’s saving his sibling from the polygamist cult they were born into; however the down side to this plot was that there was A MILLION BROTHERS it was so freaking hard to keep track I gave up even trying to keep up with it after a few chapters. Lastly A lot of the dialogue was cringey/unrealistic. I’m giving 1.5/2 because I did enjoy the Halloween aspects of this book but that’s about it.
I honestly could not finish this book. I got to about 50% before giving up and it was severely giving me the ick!!! I am here for spice, don’t get it twisted but this was just Halloween themed porn. Garrett was a nympho… like the only nice thing he said about penny was that she smelt good. Everything w him was sexual. And I love a sunshine FMC.. but penny was too much. Like even I would have been a grump around her. I tried to push through. I really did
This book started out really fun until it doesn't anymore. I would've loved it if only it's shorter than what it is. There's a lot of chapters that could've been removed or condensed into one. I think that the length of this book is too much for a romance novel and the fact that nothing really happened for the first 3/4 of the book. I also thought this would be a slow burn romance, but the romance kinda feels like insta-love? I don't know. I didn't care for what Garrett and Penny feelings for each other. The characters aren't that fleshed out as well and there's too many characters all at once, I'm confused most of the times. I sometimes don't know whose character speaks or having the point of view because they're all so bland and uninteresting. I think this book would've been great and polished if it underwent more edits and such.
I don't think I'm going to read any more books from this series and from the author with this length. I might try some books from her with pages that aren't reaching 500 and above.
Sometimes what you need isn't what you think it is
I kind of loved this story. I did a lot of laughing and saying oh no. It was entertaining and enjoyable although there were many times that I was yelling at Penny (mostly) and Garrett to just communicate with each other. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. There were a lot of supporting characters that were absolutely wonderful. Lilith and Morticia were great friends to Penny by being supportive but also by giving her a kick when she needed it. Garrett was amazing. He was so much more patient than I could ever imagine being. Garrett was so sweet and tender-hearted on the inside but all grumpy and growly on the outside. Penny was sweet but she also acted or reacted impulsively. Some of the things that she did to Garrett made me want to smack her. I loved how the story ended though. I recommend reading this book.
Listening to this book is a treat. The narrators both did a wonderful job bringing the story to life. It was like being part of the story. I also recommend listening to this book.
This dragged on. Could have ended so much sooner, could have cut out half the drama and angst. It was cute tho, a steamy Hallmark book. Too much steam, somehow 😅 I love the Halloween/fall/cozy vibes tho!
OK, I had enough with the series. I am not gonna read the books in a row.it feels so weird to have brothers behaving the same in and out of bed . Garett is the serious grouchy Svensson brother who take charge on many occasions he wants to make a deal with a client and is trying to rescue the rest of his siblings from the cult.
In this book we have Davie, a young brother shipped to the Svenssons from the cult . Penny actually meets him at the station when he arrived to pick Davie. They had banter and later they found out that Garret is her new boss, this book was a Halloween overload so as to speak I should have read this book early as it is almost Christmas, oh never mind, it had all sort of spooky things. I loved all the activities, Macbeth plays, the costume act it was all great fun to read.
We have Penny, she is penniless as usual she is staying with her foster twins who wants t sell the house they are staying in, I loved Morticia and Lilith they were super cool goth artists, when Davie clung to Morticia she said "if I pretend it's not there maybe it will go away"
The exorcism by Ida was just so hilarious actually this book is my favourite one so far in the series.Garett is trying so hard to set everything straight with Hunter and Meghan . All the three books had a female charccter who is trying to be with the hero for their money, she will do everything in her power to prove that THE HEROINE IS UPTO NO GOOD.another fun fact is that they will be working with the main villain who is also a female in the three books ironically.
It was Onka and the assistant in the first book, Archer's mom and the artist woman in the second book, here we have Penny's mom and the accountant from Garrets office.
Alina Jacobs have to quit with the patterns it is getting so weird. I loved the book as a standalone, but it's actually impossible to enjoy the book without reading about the other couples it's a vicious cycle.
I guess I should have known what I was getting into based on the title but this book was embarrassing to read, up to a certain point it was fine and then it was just straight inappropriate for the last half of the book which went on far too long. I couldn’t get through a chapter without every ick word being hit.
If that’s your thing then go for it but this level of spice is unnecessary for a cute fall romance in my opinion.
This should have been a novella. There was way too much extra info that was totally not necessary. Every time she baked a cake or dessert we got almost an entire how to. And also, I love some smexy times but this one has way too many! My final issue was that there were too many names\characters. Maybe from other books by this author? It was hard to follow who was who.
This isn't for me; it takes a lot of things lightly that I'm not up for reading light renditions of, so I'm going to stop reading. I may try another book by this author; I've got my eye on a Christmas romance...
Whoa! If you would have told me how much I'd like this before I read it, I never would have believed you. I only picked this up because I needed a book with a pumpkin on the cover for a reading challenge, but I ended up loving it. I can't wait to read Jacobs' backlist.
This book has a lot of spice...like soooo much spice (at least for me). Usually this ruins a book for me because the spice takes over the plot, or there is no plot. Not here!!! This book has a lot going on: company buyouts, fall festivals, ASMR baking channels, cults, Halloween parties, horses, and pumpkins galore. The small town vibes was exactly what I was looking for. The side characters were great! The "Addams Family" style sisters gave me so much joy!!!
2.5…it could have been done much better. And who is THAT annoyed about not having plastic straws? I get plastic straws being useful in certain settings like nursing homes…but a 30-something, able-bodied, billionaire man? Suck it up, dude. You can use a reusable straw or just fucking sip it 🙃
Alina Jacobs does fun, quirky romances. There’s always a sunshine character that’s over the top happy, and there’s gonna be a classic grumpy “I hate this season” character. And seeing the grumpy one fall in love with the sunshine character is all the feels. 🥰
Okay, yes, there's a ton of spice but the pumpkin-themed orgasm?!? ...I died laughing 🤣 I might read the rest of the series just for little nuggets like that 😅

too messy… too confused. the book started with a slow burn, but then didn’t know where to go, was just this BIG mess. too many chapters and plots that didn’t have to exist, because it didn’t added in anything to the history of the book. too many characters, and when i say too many, is TOO many, you can’t remember all of them. a lot of unnecessary smut, not because i don’t like it (i do, a lot!), but it was just to fill the holes 🥴 it was fun in 40% of the book, by then i was dying to finish it (i skipped some pages ops)
This book is too long. Too long yet so many stuff happening all at once, so I'm saving you all the trouble by enumerating the important points of the book instead:
1. The recycled heroine goes undercover inside billionaire hero's company to write an exposè trope. Penny's manipulative mom asks her to do it. Penny accepts bc the Svensson dude was a douche to her. And she's broke, so this is the book's "drama"
2. Boring fom page 30-400. yes that's the entirety of the book, I know! Nothing that much important happening here so, I'm outlining it here instead: • Penny baking stuff written in complete details? • PARTIES. Lots of them? • Penny having no backbone here whatsoever. Still continuing to write the piece, cries for ever agreeing to this, still sends the piece to her mother, cries, is chirpy the next morning, mom calls for more notes about the Svenssons, sends it again to her mom, cries, is chirpy the next morning. Wash, rinse, and repeat. • Smutty scenes. Lots of them. • Ummm family dynamics, I guess?
3. The book's resolution/ending. Garett founds out about the exposè through his jealous assistant hell bent on breaking them up. Guess who are her sources? the rag that Penny's mom works for. Her evidence? THE SAMPLE ARTICLE Penny wrote that should be confidential! *gasps* and A CLIP VIDEO of a private meeting where Penny's mom is discussing the exposè *gasps!!* WOW WOW WOW 😮 • Penny's not guilty, she's just crying because she was caught. • Penny blames the assistant for ruining her life, NOT HER OWN CHOICES. Yes, she's a weakling, right? • They got back together. Ugh. The way this shit happened is very corny so I won't recount how, but imo, Garett shouldn't have took her back so easily, the mf. HE EVEN APOLOGIZED to her, lmaooooo!
So that's it! Thought this book will have some sort of substance but meh. It's your very generic same old romcom.
I'd give this 0 stars but then you won't know that I rated. LOL! Anyway this by far is the worst of the 1st 3 books. I feel like Garrett's character from the 1st 2 books did a 180. He was supposed to be that hard shelled character and then suddenly a lady who is all fluff and not anything like Hazel or Josie. These ladies actually were someone before they met the brothers whereas Penny is just a ditz who crys more and is purposely messing with Garrett. Man she just walks into the brothers lives with the air of exposing them and then Garrett's hot looks makes her change her mind and she can't stand up to her crazy mom. The whole story is all over the place.
Garrett's character is so shallow, possessive, bipolar and to think I liked him in the 1st two books. And Penny comes and ruins everything.
And argh the structure of the storylines are the same for ALL of the 3 books like all the girls all fall asleep when they are having sex like who does that. That's so wrong *eye roll* then a similar problem at the end, all brothers get super angry at the end of the book like it's as if there's one draft with a little different tidbits. It's insane. Also I hate Penny's character it's sooo shallow she buys Garret out And he throws money around like it's not even pretending to be realistic.
I can't even. I bet I'm gonna get flames lol Oh well marshmallows XP
Billionaire/assistant, wanna be journalist, autumn lover vs hater, small town w/off the wall characters, interfering family and hot amazing spice! This is a series of brothers from a LARGE family where each book a brother will get their HEA.
I love this type of book. No angst, comedy, hot billionaires with hot spice thrown in. Nice and light. Is it for everyone? No. But it is my cup of hot chocolate. I don't want to be sad or anxious with the books I read.
I listened to the audiobook of this, and loved it! I think that hearing the voices gives you so much more as a reader. You really can feel the emotions. You connect much quicker to the characters as well. These narrators were top notch.
This is not the first book in the series, but it can be read as a complete stand-alone. However I think you will get more out of it if you have read the other books as you have met some of the characters before. But don’t let that deter you. This can be a stand-alone. But it will make you want to read all the other books!
Penny has a job with Garrett Svensson as a temp - but her mother wants her to write an article dishing dirt on the family. Penny is desparate and accepts - but as she begins to have feelings for Garrett, she regrets her decision. The Svensson family have been betrayed by women before, and it is hard for Garrett to trust his feelings for Penny - what will happen when he discovers the truth? Will Penny be able to deny her mother and be true to Garrett and his family? Or will her betrayal ruin everything? Loved the twists as Garrett learns to enjoy Halloween - and finds out that there is more to life than work and his many half brothers!
