Once Upon a Wish-mas

This Christmas is all they've got...

I wasn't afraid to work for notorious single Dad Barclay Rothchester. His adorable girls made it an easy decision.

But the rumours are true. He's intolerable.

He’s such a strict control freak, that I find myself fired. Now I only have a few weeks with his precious girls. I'm determined to make their Christmas as amazing as possible.

Only, now I'm going, I can't help but start to understand him.

I've already taken another job in France so nothing can happen between us.

Even if I really want it to...

Audiobook re-read. I read this book last Christmas but couldn’t resist the chance of reviewing the audiobook. This is a great book but is enhanced by Charlie Emmeline Albers narrative.

A classic Christmas style tale with a modern twist. The Rothchester family need a nanny and a whole lot of love. Ruby is the lady for the job. She isn’t perfect but she has her heart in the right place.

Mr Rothchester is bitter after he lost his wife. He’s given up on life. He’s afraid to live again. Working and missing out on family time has become an easier option for him.

Ruby isn’t willing to wrap the family in cotton wool. It’s time to get out into the real world and kick butt even if it’s just in the PTA meetings. The children adore Ruby and she tries her best to get them back to where they are supposed to be.

Ruby gets under Barclay Rothchester’s skin and he’s struggling to deny his attraction. Will this December read make for a festive happily-ever-after?

This is available on Kindle Unlimited, paperback and audio. It does use adult language and has themes of an adult nature. It’s funny, sweet and heart warming.

This Christmas Novela really got me in the Christmas Spirit and the characters had my heart in flutters. Ruby Campbell is my jam and I feel like if I knew her IRL, we would get along. Her childish antics, exuberance and positivity is the perfect fit for Barclay Rothchesters’ girls as a Nanny. His wife and the mother of her girls passed away a few years now and no one will ever be able to take her place.

Ruby is bound to make sure that the girls enjoy their Christmas but will she be able to stay and deal with Barclay. I love that their attraction for each other slowly built up into a wonderful feel good ending that I enjoyed!

I loved the pacing of the story and the character development as well as the banter and dialogue. It was cozy and heartwarming story that I needed to get into the mood for this season. I am now a fan and will be looking at Laura Barnard’s backlist as I have enjoyed this read very much!!

Thank you to the author for the ARC and a chance to read this fabulous book. I voluntarily reviewed this book and all opinions are mine.

I received an audio copy of this book to listen to in exchange for an honest review from Laura Barnard.

Once upon a wish-mas is a heartwarming novella about lost love and new beginnings.

Ruby is an amazingly likeable character full of joy and who slowly begins to thaw the frozen heart of Barclay!
This book has all the feels of Christmas and has got me into the festive spirit already!

The children in this story are utterly adorable and I loved the narrators voice when reading their script.

This is a truly magical read that brought tears to my eyes and made my heart race with anticipation.

Five Christmas stars for Ruby and Barclay 💖!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is the first book I've read by Laura Barnard and it was really good!

I usually don't read books with Christmas trope but I gave chance to this one and I didn't regret it.

"Once Upon a Wish-mas" is a Christmas romance book with enemies to lovers, age-gap, taboo and office romance tropes.

If you're looking for a Christmas book with these tropes, then you need to read this one!

YAY CHRISTMAS!!!

I bloody love Christmas, and I love books. So giving me a Christmas book is just heaven. Even better?

Barcley.

We meet ruby, looking for a stop gap job to get her into the new year when she can start her next nanny job, she applies for this position. Not meeting barcley for the interview she accepts..... then she meets him. He is all brooding and moody. *sigh* and slightly broken. He hires nanny after nanny to take care of his girls after they lost their mother some year ago. He hurts him to have any memory of her in the house yet Ruby seems to bring all the little things back to the surface.
Along the way she reminds him that the little things count more than the big, and boy it makes you love her too. Knowing the hurt she herself has suffered she still carries on. Happy in life. Something barcley forgot to do.

I love how she takes care of the girls, learning everything she can about them. Even if it’s to the dismay of Barcley.
The budding relationship between Barcley and Ruby is sweet. Especially when they try to keep it professional. It’s not something they succeed in doing. At least they tired though.
I love how Ruby helps the girls to remember their mother too. And in doing so shows barcley how to remember her.

Ahhh for my first Christmas book this year it’s amazing.

4 star review of Once Upon A Wish-Mas by Laura Barnard
I really enjoyed reading Once Upon A Wish-Mas. Centered around the most magical time of the year, a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate. There’s something about the holiday season in n my opinion, it’s never too early to read a holiday romance.
There was angst, humour, fabulous characters and a story line that you couldn’t help but be drawn too. Ruby Campbell is a nanny who is feisty, sassy and not at all afraid of her boss Barclay Rothchester. In fact for the sake of his daughters, she will put up with his over the top control issues and his grumpy demeanour, determined to give his daughters the best Christmas she can.

To Barclay no-one will ever be able to replace his wife who died three years ago and even if there was someone, it certainly wouldn’t be Ruby. Having recently returned from London, I could easily picture the places such as Harrods and Somerset House as I read this story.

Can Barclay and Ruby put aside their obvious differences to ensure that the girls have a great Christmas, or will their pride get in the way?

This is a story of overcoming grief, of love, about taking a leap of faith and learning to trust again. A heart warming, feel good story that will leave you with a smile on your face.

DEFINITELY A MUST READ!
When you are looking for a perfect Christmas Love Story with all the sweet, tear-jerking and swoony emotions, then this is definitely a book for you.
It's not the typical Christmas story per se, but a heartwarming and unbelievable emotional love story that ends on a Christmas day, or begins on this day 🤔😉 This book has all the beautiful feelings. It made me burst into laughter, thanks to Ruby's hilarious humor and made me cry like a baby (and I'm not ashamed of that) because 🤷🏻‍♀️ this story is just so unbelievable emotional and perfect 😍. I'm in love with this book and the characters.
I don't know why, but I saw the cover, went blind in and expected something completely different.
I can't believe how fast I read this book. The story just pulls you in and doesn't let go.
I don't want to spoil this beautiful book for you, you'll have to trust me when I say,
this amazing love story will leave you with a smile on your face and warm feelings around your heart ❤❤❤

Oh what a beautiful Christmas book! I ended it with a happy heart - just what was needed. It made me think of a modern day Jane Eyre...maybe because the male character is Mr Rothchester?

My first book written by this author but it won't be my last.

Hilarious, Sweet, and the perfect Holiday listen!

Ruby loves being a nanny. She wants to ensure the children she has in her care have someone loving and consistent in their lives.

Especially because she herself is an orphan. She lost her father very young and her mother passed when she turned 18. Her experience gives her an empathy to the children she finds in her care.

She finds herself assigned a new family with two young girls and a widower father. These girls have had a ever revolving door of nannies because their father is a stickler for his regimented schedule for the girls. They haven't been able to keep anyone.

Mr. Rothchester is a grump. He reminds me of Captain Von Trapp when Maria first comes to the family. Actually a lot of the tone between Ruby and Mr Rothchester reminds me it. I love that musical so it works for me.

The girl's mother died 3 years ago. Because of his sorrow, Barclay (Mr Rothchester) has distanced himself from everyone, even his girls.

Jessica & Charlotte (Lottie) are two girls in need of something more than the strict schedule their father thinks is what will make their lives better without their mother. But contrary to what he thinks, what improves his daughters lives is the attention and care that they receive from their new nanny, Ruby, who drives him nuts.

Ruby is determined to give these girls their perfect Christmas. And in the process helps thaw Barclay, who never thought he'd ever find someone else after his wife passed.

Hilarious, heartwarming, and the spirit of the holidays.

I haven't listened to anything narrated by Charlie Emmeline Albers. I loved her narration.

I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

3 HOLIDAY STARS🎁

I absolutely adore holiday-themed books, no matter the occasion! This one was so sweet and definitely got me feeling all sorts of emotions.

Ruby is a nanny, and soon begins to take care of Barclay Rothchester’s children. Ruby is a kind soul but will stand her ground when necessary (which seems to be a lot).

Barclay lost his wife a few years back. He comes across as an arrogant man, but he’s actually just detached - not wanting to face the pain.

The children, Lottie and Jess absolutely love Ruby. Many nannies have come and gone because of Barclay, but Ruby is determined to be the one who stays.

Eventually, as Ruby and Barclay spend more time with one another, they begin to fall for each other. Barclay is keen on ensuring their relationship remains professional, and he feels like he’s betraying his late wife.

On the other hand, Ruby cannot hold back on her emotions. She’s set to leave the week after Christmas, but will anybody be able to persuade her to stay?

I enjoyed how loving Ruby is. Her and Barclay are the perfect match and seem to balance each other out. I honestly just saw the synopsis and decided to try this book out, but I ended up actually liking it!

If you love books that are quick reads and holiday-related, definitely try this one out! x

4.5 stars rounded up for this amazing Christmas Book! It has everything I love in a contemporary romance.
✔️Enemy to Lover Trope
✔️Angsty
✔️Steamy
✔️Amazing Banter

This story gave me all the feels I laughed out loud, I swooned and yes I cried. I couldn’t have asked for much more Ruby was a strong heroine which I love she didn’t allow the controlling Barclay to scare her off and she challenged him every step of the way. A fun quick Christmas book everyone should be reading this holiday season.

Someone get Hallmark on the line because I need this to be made into a feel good Christmas movie IMMEDIATELY.

When Ruby, a modern day Mary Poppins, interviews for a nanny position in Notting Hill she is warned that the client, widower Mr. Rothchester, is notoriously difficult. Not one to back down from a challenge she accepts the job and immediately falls in love with her new charges, Jessica and Lottie. She gets a taste of Mr. Rothchester's wrath the very first day when she finds herself going head to head with him in an argument over a picnic. Over the next couple months the story unfolds with Ruby getting more and more entangled and protective over the girls and more and more attracted to their infuriating father. . . The author has written Barclay so well, you can't help but love him even as you want to shake him for being insane. He is a beautiful and broken man. Ruby is tenacious and larger than life, fiercely loyal and exactly the kind of person you would want to care for your kids.

The chemistry between Ruby and Barclay is very charged and electric and desperate. This is a story about loss and love and learning to live again, all wrapped up in the magic of Christmas.

Loved it.

This was a fun, laugh out loud Christmas romance!
Ruby is a strong MC who is easy to relate with. Her wit, amazing banter and angst with Barclay kept me fully engaged while her tender caring love for the girls gave me all the feels! Even the dynamic between Ruby and the secondary characters was well thought out and added to the overall enjoyment of the book for me. I felt like I was a member of the staff, or Ruby’s friend, rooting for her from day one!

The steamy enemy to lover troupe was the perfect tear jerking, swoony and heart warming relationship to start the Christmas season! I was definitely invested in the romance so I loved that Laura gives us not only a wonderful ending but a follow-up as well. If you love Christmas books and Hallmark Christmas movies (this should definitely be one!) then this is a must read for you!

Welcome to my guilty pleasure book. It’s not an ARC, it’s a pleasure read. I have been seeing this book around the gram for a while and love the title and cover. I totally went in blind with this book. I didn’t read the synopsis and I did not read any reviews on the book or even look to see its rating. I am so glad I did. This was the best holiday/love story I read! If you are looking to get another holiday book in this year make it this one it will not disappoint.

So to keep with going in blind I am not going to tell you much about the book. BUT you do have some sexy talk in the book. I laughed and I cried. So can you tell I loved it?

Once thing I did love is at the end the author thanked #bookstagramers I thought that was so kind. I loved that she recognized the hard work we do for the authors and publishers!

This is my second ARC from Ms. Barnard... I've been signing up for some holiday romance because Christmas is practically in there air and we're only a few months shy from December.

I enjoyed the book... the snarky banter... the angst... the wonderful characters, and the storyline may not be very original but it was a heartwarming Christmas read.

It's a combination of enemies to lovers and taboo, age-gap and boss-employee romance.

I loved how to it talked about grief and longing... about taking chances, and putting your heart on the line for people who are worth it.

To the fans of Lisa Renee Jones and Monica Murphy, this is the book to read next.

Absolutely loved it. Funny, heartwarming and VERY Christmassy. Barclay is a widower with two young daughter and a whole lot of grumpiness. Ruby is a nanny with a heart of gold, determined to melt his frozen heart. Lots of fun scenes in Harrods, ice skating at Somerset House and run-ins with the school PTA (brings back memories!) that put a smile on my face. It's kind of like Mary Poppins meets The Holiday with a sprinkling of White Christmas. Perfect!

There are some books which keep you warm like a big fluffy blanket, and Once Upon a Wish-Mas is one of those books. It's a lovely and sweet romance with moments of humour and emotion, giving you everything you need in a romance. Barclay and Ruby are great characters, but the girls Jessica and Lottie stole the show for me. My only regret is that the epilogue wasn't longer. A book I could definitely see as a Hallmark Film.

I loved listening to the audio version of this book. It the tells the story of a lady called Ruby who is employed as a nanny of two girls. It is a lovely Christmas tale, with relatable characters and is very easy to listen to. The narrator was great. I have listened to a few other stories by this author and they have all been good.

I was given a copy of ‘Once Upon A Wish-Mas’ in exchange for an honest review, and boy Is this book the perfect read to get into the festive spirit!

The book is about Ruby, a woman who takes a job as a nanny for the Rothchester family. She learns that her new employer is a widow, stubborn and cold and difficult to handle. But if anyone can rise to the challenge, it’s Ruby.

She immerses herself into her job immediately, determined to put Lottie and Jessica Rothchester’s welfare first. She is aware they are grieving, sad and lonely without their mother, and wants more than anything to give them a sense of comfort, family and home.

Unfortunately Mr Rothchester is determined to battle with her at every turn, refusing to allow her to deviate from his strict itinerary for the girls, and scolding her like a child. However, Ruby is determined to make him see he’s in the wrong.

When she learns he doesn’t allow the girls to celebrate Christmas, she instantly knows she needs to rectify the situation, and throws all her energy into making the house as festive as possible, while honouring the girls late mother. But with Ruby focusing hard on delivering the girls their Christmas wish, will she ever get her own?

The story was beautifully written, believable and has me hooked. There was so many funny and witty moments that had me chuckling, and so many sad moments that made your heart hurt for the girls. But above all, it was a perfect feel-good read that enabled me to get into the festive spirit.

I love Barnard’s writing style, she always writes the perfect blend of humour and love, and always has me crawling back for more.

Oh my word! What can I say about this book? I have loved Laura Barnard’s books since she first asked me to read and review one of her books very early in my Bookstagram days (pre-blog). Laura’s books are the perfect balance of romance, sex, and humour and I have loved them all.

HOWEVER…I have to say I think this is my favourite book by Laura by far, and is so perfectly Christmassy that I wanted to start celebrating Christmas there and then when I finished the book!

Ruby is such a wonderful character, a strong feisty nanny who puts the needs of her young charges first, even to the point of pushing her way into the PTA and putting up with the overly-competitive mummies, just to help one of the children. She was so adorable in the way she looked out for Barclay’s young daughters, that it was impossible not to root for her.

I loved Barclay from the start too, because although he was pretty obnoxious to Ruby, it was clear that he was a grieving man struggling to raise his daughters without his wife beside him.

I went through a whole gamut of emotions reading this, and it affected me so much that I had to read it in one sitting because I honestly could not put it down long enough to go to sleep! I finished it at 3:30am trying not to wake my husband while I blew my nose and wiped my eyes! There were so many moments that I laughed, I cried, I swooned a little. This really was an outstandingly Christmassy story and one I think I will definitely be reading a second time!

It's RELEASE DAY!!! Once Upon A Wish-mas is out today and you guys have to read it! This book about a Nanny, was just what I needed and no nightmares followed 🤣

The story follows Ruby, a career Nanny who takes a job caring for Barclays young girls. Barclay is a widow, and more than a little bit of a grumpus. His daughters are adorable. What follows is a fantastic story that made me laugh out loud, blush a teeny bit and even a little tear.

I totally identified with Ruby. Similar age, same career and a habit of quickly falling in love with the children. I loved her spunk and sass, and I 100% loved her ability to handle Barclay at the start.

After reading this, I have made a decision to start looking for my next family. Which of course will comprise of a hot, wealthy, widowed father, adorable children and a housekeeper. Joking aside, this book was the perfect mix of Christmas and romance...think modern day Mary Poppins with a splash of a hallmark movie, and a healthy dose of action. I look forward to checking out more of @laurabarnardauthor books. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ shiny stars from me!!

Thanks to Bare Naked Words and Laura Barnard for reaching out and asking me to take part in their cover reveal and release day review.

5 huge heart-warming Christmassy stars!!
*ARC received in return for an honest review

Once Upon A Wish-mas has all the feels to make this the perfect heart-warming Christmas feel good romance story.
If it were a Christmas film it would be right up there with my all time faves I watch every year. I just want to wrap my arms around it and squeeze the hell out of it, I loved it that much.

I adored Ruby and her story. I laughed out loud at the, sometimes embarrassing, predicaments she got herself into, one of which was the candle at the Carol service, lol! I chuckled at her sass with the gorgeous Barclay. I fumed, laughed, fumed some more and cheered over her run-ins with the snooty mothers on the PTA committee and my heart melted with her relationship with those two adorable girls. They are sooo cute!!

Once Upon A Wish-mas should be read curled up in front of the fire sipping a hot chocolate with the Christmas tree lights twinkling and the best Christmas tunes playing quietly in the background to ensure the best reading experience. 1-click this baby and ENJOY!!
**Be prepared, you may have a few tears.

A Christmas themed rom-com and I absolutely loved it. It's a bit of Mary Poppins with some Christmas fun and romance, the difference being I loved this nanny so much more than that Mary Poppins sequel!

Barclay a widower takes on a new nanny for his two cute girls and gets Ruby. Ruby omg she's a force of nature, she really made me chuckle. I did think she pushed the boundaries quite a bit for a new employee but it was needed at times and so entertaining.

The story is mainly from Ruby's pov, but Barclay gets some smaller chapters so we get his pov and it's obvious quite soon his not as cold as he first shows, just guarded. Did I mention he's a good looking man that keeps himself fit, something Ruby can't help but notice.

I listened to the audiobook and loved the narration. There were so many moments I wanted to highlight like an ebook!

The narrator defined the characters well and gave them personality and the children's voices came over cute.

A real humorous and easy listen. Trouble is you don't want to pause it when you have to go out! I could totally see this as a rom-com on the big screen.

This is a Mary Poppins tale all grown up. Ruby takes a job as a nanny for widowed businessman with two adorable daughters. Barclay is a no nonsense man. He has no time for anything foolish. He is too busy throwing himself into his work and ignoring his emotions. Well Ruby changes all that. This was a hilarious book. Ruby was just what Barclay didn't want. She is stubborn and independent and she doesn't take orders she doesn't agree with easily. As the story goes on and she fights for the girl's happiness she starts to thaw his ice cold heart, even if he won't show it. But Barclay is stubborn and once he realizes his truth it might be too late for himself and the girls who have fallen for Ruby. This was such a fun read/listen. This narrator was the perfect voice for the story. I couldn't get enough of it. Ruby and Barclay cracked me up! And talk about swoon worthy. I dare you not to let this story grab your heart. I loved every second of it and wouldn't mind more! A must read romance for the holiday season.

Wow, this book was just what I needed. I have been in such a book slump recently but should have known that a new book from the lovely Laura would bring me out of it.

This book is about Ruby, a quirky nanny who is hired to look after two little girls, with their widowed father Barclay working all hours. Ruby is like a whirlwind and goes in and the girls warm to her well, although their father isn't too keen and wants her gone as he thinks her ways are upsetting their routine, but Ruby won't be moved so easily.

I will be honest, I genuinely dislike reading Christmas books this early, I love Christmas but can't entertain it until December. However, this book pulled me in and I loved it! Ruby was an amazing character, and the type of quirky and funny characters that you know you will get with Laura's books.

This is an amazing read and I can't recommend it enough! You really get a bit of everything, humour, romance, angst....defo one of my favourite reads this year!

Perfect perfect perfect!! This book was wonderful, beautifully written, very Christmassy and made me laugh and cry multiple times!!
From beginning to end and everything inbetween, this book was an amazing Christmas read! It was a warm, cosy, hug of a book and I would highly recommend it!
Barclay Rothchester has a reputation for being a grumpy tyrant and when he hires a nanny for his two young daughters, sparks begin to fly!
Ruby Campbell is the nanny with sass and when she becomes the caring nanny of two young girls, her life is turned upside down!
I loved all the characters and how realistic and relatable they all were.
The story unfolds beautifully and I found myself reading more and more because I just had to find out what was going to happen. If you only read one Christmas book this year then you must make it this one, it’s amazing!!

What a perfect Christmas read. It got me in the mood to feel all the Holiday vibes. Time really slows down during this time of year, it is magical and this story really captures all of the magic the holiday season brings.

Ruby Campbell comes to work for the Rothchesters. Barclay, a recent widower, is not coping well with the loss of his wife Claire, in fact he is miserable. He is extremely moody and suffering in silence until Ruby comes along. He has met his match. She loves his girls fiercely and will stop at nothing to make them happy.

I won’t give it all away but this is definitely a perfect holiday read, filled with LOL moments and even some tug at your heart string moments. I loved it from beginning to end!

I am so thankful to Laura Barnard for reaching out to me about about her book! After reading the synopsis I was sold! This read was super cute and heartwarming at times with a slightly steamy enemies to lovers boss/ employee romance.

I enjoyed the characters so much in this book and was excited to see the book was told in dual narrative. I loved getting both sides of the story.

Overall I gave this book 4 Stars. Laura delivered all the warm and cozy Christmas feels and it’s never too soon for that imo. If you’re looking for a light easy and fun read I recommend this one and it is available on Kindle Unlimited as well ♥️

A Christmas to remember

Oh I loved this story !!!
It’s such a Beautiful slow burn romance with some comedy (laugh out lid moments) full of love and care and grief and healing !!
I laughed and cried and fell in love with this family !
Ruby is a witty and sassy nanny who starts working for a grieving widow looking after his two young girls .
Barkley is the grieving widow who is angry at the world and his behavior is curt and nasty because of it. He also works way too much !!! This story is about how love and dedication and wonderful Christmas spirit can change people and bring them together !!
Loved it !!!!
