“Sister” Trixie Lavender was excommunicated from the church after a demon possessed her. Coop the person responsible for saving her is in fact a demon. Coop is a talented tattoo artist, who escaped hell, and is desperately trying to acclimate to human life. Together with Coop’s trash talking owl, Livingston they move to small-town Oregon to open a tattoo parlor.
This was fun from seeing them negotiate a rental agreement on the building they want to lease, to Coop dealing with all the complications of being human. In ink hasn’t even dried on the lease when the duo discover a dead body in their building. The dead body turns out to be their crooked landlord Crowley.
The police clear Trixie and Coop but the list of suspects is impressive. Trixie got a taste for detective work when she was in Seattle and the two set out to investigate. The murder-mystery was well done with a few red herrings and twists to keep the reader guessing. The wrap us was clever.
We meet new friends in Oregon, including another tattoo artist named Knuckles. Then there are locals, Higgs and his friend Jay who run the local homeless shelter. This was a fun cast of characters and I look forward to spending more time with them.
As one would expect from Cassidy we get clichés, humor and twists a plenty with the murder investigation. We also get to see this duo establish roots in the community with a delightful thread involving Trixie as she befriends and helps others in the community.
Hollie Jackson offered a fun narration and elevated the humor, snark and unique characters.
Then There Was Nun was a delightfully funny tale and engaging murder mystery. I look forward to the next audio and spending time with the gang at the Inkerbelle Tattoo Parlor. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

This was frustrating to read because I could see the glimmers of a decent paranormal mystery within the story, but there was so many other things detracting from it.
The plot centres around a former nun and her demon-sidekick. I thought I was picking up the first book in a series when I bought it, but it turns out to be a spin-off from another long-running series by the author and it seems as though events from that series are referenced every couple of pages. Sister Trixie Lavender and Coop's character development, how they met each other, and their first adventures together happened prior to the start of this story, making it feel as though this is the third or fourth book in a series rather than the first.
There were also a couple of characters that were meant to be English and Irish, but the way they both spoke was so off-putting because it was so unrealistic (admittedly, the Irish character was a possessed owl so I can forgive a certain amount of artistic licence!) The English character was a female police officer and here is an example of her interviewing Sister Trixie Lavender:
"I can't cock this up or I'll lose my job and be shipped right back to jolly old England with my tail 'tween my legs." The way she is written reminds me of a female Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.
Other than these issues, it wasn't a bad read, hence two stars, but I probably won't read any more of this series.

Then There Were Nun by Dakota Cassidy
A paranormal cozy mystery spinoff, this is the first in a series
A former nun and a demon open a tattoo parlor but when their landlord ends up dead in their new shop, it’s time for the detective hats to come out and solve The Who-done-it.
It’s an irreverent and often funny read that is entertaining. In a G rated version which is unusual for this author.
Trixie, the nun, is on a mission. Mostly just to support herself and her demon, but also now to solves murder mysteries and help friends and neighbors. Much of her language is straight from the most cliched stereo types but she is well meaning and loving so forgivable.
Coop, the demon, trying hard to fit into society is adorable.
A great start to a cozy mystery series. I look forward to the growing character base and finding out who the next one is to die and why the animals are talking.

This is such a great start to a new series! The story quickly grabbed my attention and kept me turning the pages, I didn’t want to put the book down. The story is entertaining, and filled with a cast of quirky, and unique characters as well as a mystery that kept me guessing. I look forward to reading more in this series.

I really enjoy Dakota's writing and I was not disappointed by this first entry into the Nun of Your Business Mysteries series. Trixie, an ex-nun and her friend Coop, a demon are so much fun. The opportunities for snark, puns and teasing are endless. This book is about them establishing themselves in a new town in the midst of a murder mystery. The characters are interesting the relationships have potential and the mystery was solid. I will be reading more from this series.

I saw this and thought, ‘ooh, I like the sound of that.’ An ex nun who happens to get possessed by an evil spirit now and again, her best friend is a demon and there’s also a cheeky possessed owl called Livingston.
Unfortunately it just fell a little short.
Don’t get me wrong the writing was good as was the overall mystery but there are a few issues I had that spoilt my enjoyment a little.
The thing I didn’t realise was these characters had already appeared in the author’s other series and the constant references to ‘Stevie’, which I assume is the main character in her other series, got a bit annoying.
It also sticks to the no violence rule of a cozy mystery, which all the violence happens sort of ‘off screen’. This kind of irritated me as there was a scene which the main character gets possessed, then we’re told about it afterwards by another character. Maybe this sort of subject matter is a bit too gritty for this sort of novel.
Also I know Livingston was meant to be Irish but he ended up sounding Scottish most of the time.
The main redeeming factor was Coop, she’s a great character, who’s trying to understand why humans do what they do, added some fun to the overall story.
I don’t think I’ll be carrying on with this series but I have picked up the first in the author’s other series Witch Slapped to see if I like that any better.

4.5 Stars... We are introduced to both Sister Trixie Lavender and Coop in the "Witchless in Seattle" series... I really enjoyed watching these two characters evolve in their own story... Each brings a different dynamic to the story, Trixie with her calm, reassuring ways and Coop with her vulnerability yet badass vibes... Add in the secondary characters with Livingston, Higgs, and Knuckles and this read came full circle... The mystery to solve was multilayered and intriguing; twisting through the storyline to the very end... I look forward to the adventures these characters will travel and am eager to go along for the ride:)

“Then There Were Nun” is my first cozy from Dakota Cassidy, but I can tell you it won’t be my last!
I have been a Dakota fan for years, but I stuck to her Accidental Series religiously, so when I saw she was venturing into the cozy mystery world I was a bit apprehensive, which I shouldn’t have been.
I really enjoyed “Then There Were Nun”, the mystery was interesting, the world building intriguing and most of all, the characters were lovely. I cannot wait to read more of Trixie and co.

This new series is a MUST read if you want a cozy mystery that keeps you not only guessing, but laughing the whole time.
The first book in a new series I will definitely want to follow and can't wait for book two to come out! I never laughed so hard throughout the entire book. The main character, Sister Trixie Lavender and her demon in a human body, Coop are the most unlikely pair to be bonded together. Possessed, Sister Trixie has left the convent (she was excommunicated) when escaped demon, incredible tattoo artist, Coop saved her life. With Coop's snarky talking owl, Livingston, Trixie and Coop head for a small town in Oregon to open a Tattoo shop and make a living. Coop is a fast learner of all things earthly, but she still has so much to learn. She is also ready to fly off the handle in anger if anyone hurts Trixie. This duo meets Knuckles another tattoo artist who Coop and Trixie have taken a real like to and Higgs the owner and operator of a homeless shelter with his best friend Jay, and of course their landlord who tries to take advantage of Trixie and Coop until Coop with all her unearthly strength gets him to lower their rent on the run down building they want for their shop. But then of course we have a murder and non other than the landlord. Trixie and Coop have alibis so they are not suspects, but there are so many suspects since Crowley was hated all up and down the block. So in order to get back into their shop, they decide to try to solve the murder themselves, so you have bumbling, naive Trixie and Coop who is still trying to learn what a smile is! We first see these characters in one of the author's Witchless in Seattle books, so this is a type of spin-off of two of the most hysterical characters, with Knuckles and Higgs as great subcharacters. I can't wait to read more! I so enjoyed the twists and turns in this mystery as well as a red-herring and surprise ending!

Interesting setup.
Trixie Lavender is an ex-nun, kicked out of the convent because of her possession by a demon. She was rescued by another demon who escaped from hell and is known as Coop. Coop is accompanied by her BFF, a demon who had no body and had to take the first vacant body they found - a roadkill owl. His name is Livingston and he speaks with a British accent. Trixie is trying to teach Coop how to exist in a world that is not hell, how to treat and speak to people. Coop is the only one who can handle Trixie when she is possessed as she is extremely strong.
When their landlord is murdered on the property they have just rented, they feel obliged to figure out what happened and why. Trixie saw him arguing with someone, but that someone seems really nice and runs the homeless shelter only a few doors down. She is delayed getting into the premises because it is a crime scene and doesn't have much money until she can get her shop up and running.
This kind of situation with possession and a couple of demons that she is trying to take care of and keep people from hauling all of them off is a good setup for some crazy situations and humor.

A possessed former Nun, a Demon escaped from Hell, and a talking owl (yes!) move in to town and... Well. You're going to have to read the book to find out the rest! Spun-off from the Witchless in Seattle series, Dakota Cassidy writes another fun, slightly paranormal mystery. I love, love, love these characters, their names and EVERYTHING!!!!

The writing isn’t very good, and the idioms were completely out of place and wrong for the characters as written. It’s also a light, easy read. Not the best cozy mystery ever, but not the worst either.

You can’t beat a series from Dakota Cassidy for the twists, turns, outrageous fun all with her imaginative world-building and clever dialogue. So, it was no hardship at all to start with this spin-off series featuring Sister Trixie Lavender, first met in Witchless in Seattle series. Much has happened to Trixie since then: excommunication, possession, finding a feisty owl named Livingston and opening a tattoo parlor with her bff-demon Coop – Hell’s best tattoo artist. But Trixie, despite having a life that has handed her plenty of lemons is optimistic and hysterically funny, until her landlord is found murdered in their new shop and while both Trixie and Coop have alibis, the list of suspects is long.
And, then we have to account for Trixie and her rather ‘sitcom utterances’ that are so often cliché, but usually mostly appropriate and she’s such a darling that you can’t help but adore her. Not all is easy, since Coop the demon is interacting with humans and has to learn to assimilate and manage her hair-trigger temper, there’s a need to keep an eye on her – and laugh out loud with the mistakes made as she works to ‘pass’, even as they are covertly and overtly trying to discover who murdered the landlord. You can’t beat this for pure and unadulterated fun, with a solidly G rating as there are some things that this nun (excommunicated or not) just won’t do. It’s a twisty and laughter-filled road to the end with Livingston managing to steal the show occasionally as the story moves quickly through issues, investigation and solution – the perfect ‘escape from reality’ listen to brighten up your day.
Narration for this story is provided by Hollie Jackson who has the most adorable voice for Trixie the grown yet still childlike nun, and she does a lovely job with adding just a touch of self-confident ditzy to her voicing. Coop, and Livingston are also clearly presented, and each additional character that we meet on the way, from Knuckles to Jay (and more) are all easy to recognize after first introduction. Jackson embodies this story in the performance, keeping listeners clued in and intrigued from first to last.

You can’t beat this for pure and unadulterated fun, with a solidly G rating as there are some things that this nun (excommunicated or not) just won’t do. It’s a twisty and laughter-filled road to the end with Livingston managing to steal the show occasionally as the story moves quickly through issues, investigation and solution – the perfect ‘escape from reality’ listen to brighten up your day.
Narration for this story is provided by Hollie Jackson who has the most adorable voice for Trixie the grown yet still childlike nun, and she does a lovely job with adding just a touch of self-confident ditzy to her voicing. Coop, and Livingston are also clearly presented, and each additional character that we meet on the way, from Knuckles to Jay (and more) are all easy to recognize after first introduction. Jackson embodies this story in the performance, keeping listeners clued in and intrigued from first to last.

I adore Dakota Cassidy's work as well as Hollie Jackson's vocal acting skills.
I have actually listened to this book twice and enjoyed even more the second time.

Gangs, demons and ink
A good read but I must admit that at 79% of the page count I was glad that I hadn't paid for this. Really feel a bit short changed when I do and it's so much shorter than I expected. A plot revolving around an ex-nun, a demon in human form and one that has taken over the body of an owl. After being kicked out of her order for her behaviour (she was demon possessed) she and her two companions are looking to find a home and set up a business. Loved the way the nuances of being human are so hard to explain. However their dream seems to have crashed and burned as their new landlord has been murdered on their new premises. Add in a homeless shelter, gangs, a former undercover cop, money laundering and revenge. Can they find the real killer? Will the community accept her and her two companions?
Although I loved the characters, especially Coop, I couldn't understand why her demon didn't take action when she was under attack!

This was one of the strangest cozies I have ever read. I was going to give it a 3 star for that reason but I did enjoy it and will read the second book just out of curosity. Sister Trixie Lavender is an ex-nun who is possessed by an evil spirit and her sidekick is Coop the demon who was the best tatoo artist in hell until she escaped. They have decided to settle down in Cobbler Cove and open a tatoo and piercing shop. The day after they signed their lease their landlord is found dead in their shop. Because they are running out of money and they really need to get their shop opened, they decided to look for who killed their landlord instead of waiting on the police. Due to several suspects and out of control adventuries and mishaps it is taking longer than they anticipated. Interesting characters throughout the book. Enjoyed the writing and storyline once I began to understand the main characters. Oh and did I mention Trixie also has a uncontrolled talking owl called Livingston?

Decent midnight, insomniac reading but a little hard to believe. I don't mean the demon or the talking owl either, but Trixie's super chipper, heart on her sleeve, feels-for-strangers immediate empathy. I kept waffling in my belief because she's an ex-nun but also went into the convent when her drug and partying habits got to be too much for her folks as a teenager. She's got some experience of the outside world.
In terms of story, it was okay. I felt like I needed to pause on multiple occasions, just to make sure I really was on the first book of the series. She keeps referring back to what sounds like a book-length adventure that sounded like a fun set up and story all it's own. I wanted to read it but it doesn't appear to exist. That said, it was a lot of backstory to get theses characters and I thought the author could have taken more time in showing that backstory rather than just telling since the characters involved seem kind of important.
So yeah, roughly 3 stars.

We met Trixie Lavender and her demon sidekick Coop in Ebeneezer Falls, hanging with Stevie Cartwright. They had been new to town and trying to open up Inkerbelle's tattoo shop. But a murdered landlord in their shop foiled their plans and hopes, so they've moved on to a new town.
Enter Cobbler's Cove Oregon in hopes of setting up their shop and finding a community of their own to embrace them. But what should happen the day after they sign their lease? Their landlord... again!
Thankfully, this time Coop isn't a suspect, but that doesn't keep them out of trouble. They need the murder solved so their storefront can be cleared by the cops and no longer a crime scene. So what's a demon-possessed ex-nun to do? Jump in headfirst of course!
Follow Trixie and her creative non-cursing through the high jinks of their new home and a new murder. After all, they have a shop to open!

I really liked this book! I have come to enjoy these cozy mystery books. This book is about an ex-nun named Trixie who is also possessed by a demon and a demon named Coop, who are looking to start over in a new city. They find themselves in the middle of a murder before they can even get settled into their new lives. I wish more back story had been given on trixie and coop but hopefully more will be revealed in the other books of the series. The book flowed very well up until the end. In my opinion there weren’t a lot of dots to connect to solve the mystery it’s like one minute you’re wondering and then bam you just kinda know. I wish there had been more of an exciting or suspenseful reveal but the book was good none the less! If you’re looking for a cute and cozy read this is a good one! I definitely would recommend it

It's okay.
Original story plot, that was nice, and the transition from a normal setting to the solving of the mystery was solid and seamless (rare nowadays). However, if you're going to start a new series, even if it's a break off from another series, still develop the actual characters personalities and give some back history to introduce said characters instead of continually referencing something in another book and series. I picked this book to read, not the other, and because of this lack in character development, I don't know if I have enough connection the protagonist to want to go "look it up". That was disappointing. Not sure if I'll be going forward with this series. We'll see.

Funny, with a truly unexpected culprit.
I love that I truly had no idea who the culprit was. 100% in the dark. The story was humorous and entertaining, keeping my attention and interest squarely focused. What I disliked was the lack of good reason for Trixie to investigate. I felt like I was constantly asking myself “why”. Why did she feel so strongly about Higgs, why did she feel the need to question everyone?
I also felt like I should have read the previous book Trixie was in. Maybe a note at the front saying that Trixie was part of this other story? Anyways. I DID truly enjoy the story and am interested to learn more about Trixie, Coop, Knuckles, Higgs and the rest of the great characters in this community!

An ex-nun and a demon open a tattoo shop – sounds like the start of a joke!
Sister Trixie Lavender and Coop DeVille are definitely not your typical business partners. Trixie is a slightly possessed artistic ex-nun and Coop is a mostly-friendly demon with a talent for inking. They had to leave their last town due to the unfortunate death of their landlord and now they are in Portland’s Cobbler Cove intent on opening Inkerbelle’s Tattoos and Piercings. The as-is rental is overpriced and underwhelming but as long as everything goes smoothly…which, of course, it doesn’t.
This is a hilarious but very mysterious cozy. Coop is a lovable demon unless she misunderstands you, which is almost always! I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

This was an interesting concept, an ex-nun, a demon, an ex cop and a tattooist all cross paths. Sister Tricia Lavender has been excommunicated after being possessed by a demon, with her is Coop, a demon from hell who is learning to be human, and Livingston their talking owl. They’re trying to create a new life by starting a tattoo parlor and soon after meeting their disgusting landlord, his body is discovered. Tricia decides to investigate, all while wondering where they will live, live, eat. Knuckles comes to their rescue multiple times and solve the housing, financial and food issues. Meanwhile, the owner of the homeless shelter is up a creek without a paddle and Coop is convinced he needs help.

Quirky fun!
A most enjoyable and original story! A possessed ex-nun, a demon and an owl purchase a tattoo shop sounds like the beginning of a bad joke yet it’s the start of a fantastic book. Trixie the ex-nun & her demon friend Coop are trying to find a home, set up a tattoo shop and fit into a community when murder strikes. They’re embroiled into an intriguing mystery when an ex-cop now a homeless shelter owner their new neighbor is accused of killing their landlord. This story is witty, fun to read, has a plot that keeps you guessing and is overall just a great read. Can’t wait to see what Coop & Trixie get up to in book 2!

I loved this book. Trixie Lavender was a nun but she was excommunicated she hooks up with Coop who came from Hell and who carries a dictionary so she could study a new word each day. The two of them with their traits wanted to open a tattoo parlor called InklerBell Ink. It starts out horrible for them when their 2nd landlord turns up dead. So the building was taped off as a crime scene and they couldn't go in. Then a man named Knuckles gets involved and a man name Higgins who runs a homeless shelter. Trixie is a strong lady as you'll find out. Coops suppose to keep the devil out of Trixie but it doesn't always work. God works in mysterious ways as they soon found out.

Well, that was different.
I’ve had this on my kindle for ages, but never got around to reading it until now. And to be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about it, exactly.
I liked the idea of an ex-nun and a former demon teaming up as they solve the cosy mystery of the moment. However, I would have liked to read a condensed version of Trixie’s possession as it is referred to frequently, but I felt left out of the conversation, so to speak. Apart from that, Coop is endearing, Knuckles a bit of a fairy godfather figure, and Higgs and Jay are potential friends.
Not perfect, but not too shabby either.
