If the soul was ever in need of comfort or soothing (which chicken soup supposedly is) then I feel very sorry for the person who goes straight to this book to find it. Another collection of stories etc from 'real people' about 'life lessons' and 'issues'. There is a very mainstream conservative twinge in these books. You never hear stories of people who stopped believing in God or who are from non Judeo Christian religions, are gay, or who committed crimes in their youth or who dropped out of school and that worked out OK (think Richard Branson).

Being the first one in the trilogy, it was good and very touching. It gave me the felling that I was not alone in feeling the "teenage" feelings I was feeling.

The name of this book is called Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul 101 Stories of Life, Love and Learning (Paperback) by Kirberger Kimberly. This book is jammed with many stories written by real life people who had actually experienced what they have written in this book. An example of a story that in this book would be about a girl who had her heart broken because her boyfriend decided that they best way for them was to end the relationship. She said that she hated it and that she hated how she saw him so happy with other people and when he was talking or hanging out with other girls she would assume that they went out. She would throw herself to guys and try making him jealous. But one day she just couldn't take it anymore and she decided to call him and tell him that she didnt know how to be her without him. But they never went back out. She said that she was slowly healing and she started making plans with friends and how she forgot about him over time and there were even days she wouldn't think about him. But now shes over him. This is just one of the many stories that are in this book.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone at any age. But i would especially recommend it to teenagers because there are a lot of things that we can learn from them so that we feel better about ourselves and we know that we aren't the only people in this world going through this situation.

"Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul" was a beautiful compilation of short stories that I think every teenager can relate to, all the time. I'm almost positive that fifty years from now, if a teenager picked up this book, they'd instantly be able to relate to it.

With that said, Chicken Soup wasn't always brilliantly written, but the thought was there. I wasn't expecting it to be out-of-this-world, because of course, it was written by teenagers for teenagers. The stories inside it were just, wow.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who is feeling down, or anyone in general. You don't need to be a teenager to appreciate the brilliance of "Chicken Soup".

Short Stories

As a young teenager, I remember reading the first editions of the “Chicken Soup” series. They were given to me by loved ones who wanted to make my teenage years as easy as possible. The “Chicken Soup” books were written to bring comfort (as actual chicken soup does) to different age groups and share the experiences of ordinary people to help readers to see that they are not alone in what they are dealing with. These books of short stories, along with the Bible, were my instruction manuals on how to survive being a teenager. “Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul” took me back to some of the most difficult and confusing times of my life. I laughed, I cried, and even felt grateful to be able to look back and know I survived those times. The tears, questions, heart wrenching moments, and emotional/physical changes made me the woman I am today. Thanks, “Chicken Soup”!

I got this book as a gift when I was a teenager, and remember really enjoying some of the stories in here. Looking back, and reading some of the other reviews, I do recall quite a bit o God-tslk in here. I was raised as a Christian and though I did have some questions/challenges as a teenager, I was not the firm agnostic/atheist back then that I am today.

So ultimately, I am giving this book 3.5/5 stars. There's some nice stories here, but there really is a Judeo-Christian slant here, which isn't surprising given who put together this book, so a grain of salt shuld be taken by anyone considering trying out a Chicken Soup book.

Chicken soup is a really good book because it gives you great advise and its a book that will make you happy and sad. This book really makes you care and feel good or bad for the people in the book. This book is really good because its not like any other book you dont have to read cover to cover you can skip storys or read them all but the storys are really good.
This book is a text to world book. I say this becasue this book is from teenagers/adults (who remeber storys or there teenage years) and anybody can relate to the storys. Some people in this book have storys that may have happened to the person thats reading the book or it might make a person learn a lesson or improve there life. This storys will make anyone have any kind of feeling and make them care and be happy for all the opertunitys they have and love life more.
I rate this book a five because you get any feeling out of this book and it drags you in and the storys are real so you know that the thing in the book is real and can happen to anyone.

This book was pretty good
At first I wanted to stay within my fantasy book and not move on to a nonfiction. The Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul books were given to me by my cousin. If this wasn't part of the forty book challenge and my cousin never gave it to me, then I would have never picked it up.

I really liked this book 4 stars. It had plenty of interesting, inspirational, sweet, and sad stories that really touched your heart. For those who don't want to read a nonfiction book this one is an easy read and engaging.

The problem with the Chicken Soup collection is that after the first one or two, they start to all seem the same. The quotes dispersed between stories/poems/whatever are repeated in nearly every book. Now, as a lover of a good quote, I find myself eager for some variation. Also, with the exception of Chicken Soup For The Pet Lover's Soul, the stories become very similar, it's just basically a hundred different variations of the same book.

None of them are bad, but one or two is sufficient.

I was curious to read this, since there are always so many of them sitting in my teachers' bookshelves and in my school library.
This is a collection of stories and poetry from teenage submitters and excerpts of poetry from well known authors or stories from magazines. At least half the stories or poems referred to religious beliefs, which I couldn't relate to. Other stories were very sappy or holier-than-thou. There were some simple one page stories or short poems that presented agreeable messages succinctly -- but I counted only five of them in this 300 page book.
Not a great experience.

When I was younger, my sister introduced me to this book. I instantly denied it due to the fact that I always thought Chicken Soup books were for saps and stay-at-home mothers. But when there was a rough patch in my home, i needed something to turn to. This was my turn-to guide.
Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is what I would call a teenagers dream for emotional support. From boys to divorce to death, this book covers it all. One story I immediately turned to was Soul Mates. A quote that got me was, "They'll never have to worry about their parents saying 'Don’t take it so seriously, its only puppy love.'"After reading that, I was hooked. I quickly thought how much that quote impacted me. Another section of the book that had a huge impact on me was the "On Learning" section. The passage I loved was called I Try to Remember. When reading it, I remember thinking about how so many people out there are affected by their lack of self confidence. I also thought that if every person out there affect by that had a chance to read this, they'd be so touched! Just like me. To me, this passage was a new level for everyone to connect on. Finally, there was a poem in one of the back sections of the book called The Girl Next Door. What I felt while reading this section was pure terror. Well that may be a bit dramatic but I was scared. I was scared about how everything was, is, and will always be changing. Change for me was difficult and still is. But just knowing that someone else was too helped me to feel less odd.

i really like ready the short stories & different experiences as a teenager things i can relate to .i love it so far
Review :"Chicken Soup For the teenage soul , is a book written by Jack Canfield .Jack's message goes out to all teenager growing up in life and real life situation & stories that can make your learn on what teenagers might grow through at early ages as teens.
The auhthor main points throught out the book empisize on real life situations, it shows teenagers that go through many obstacles which can relate to family, relationship ,love and many more themes. My opinion on how the points each have all of his work is organized into a catergory that have a theme in common.the author acknowledges the changes in age and what are some situations we are put through & the decisions we might take as a teen isn't always the correct one.Iagree with the type of writing he takes & collects stories that at time we can relate to.
In conclusion , i believe that jack canfield reached his goal & he had my attention.the goal audience is teens ,that would be mostly be the ones interested in reading this book. This book is full of knowledge and important messages we can learn from.I think people should read this book because it is really interested to read about topics that can be interesting to us like family & love. This is the reason i would recommend this book & i rate it a ***** 5 :)

I was really disappointed with this book. I picked it up because I'm interested in psychology and I thought this would be an interesting read. Also, I've had my fair share of ups and downs so I wanted something that would enlighten me with a new perspective.

But the stories were all so narrow in range; they seemed to take a very conservative, closed viewpoint in that there was never any mention of drug abuse, ex-prisoners, people who had dropped out of school and had been successful, or homosexuality. Considering the modern day and age, I found this disheartening to say the least. Almost all the stories were based around students (not surprising considering the target audience) which rather narrowed down the variety.

Another thing that really got to me was that the title suggests that these stories are meant to be soothing- but they just made me feel depressed; it's normally only the last two lines that are happy.
Also, many of them are unrealistic; they seem to go on and on about how everything has a happy ending. But that's just not the case... In my opinion, it's giving teenagers the wrong idea about success.

It would have been much better if the book gave a scenario and then told you how to deal with it.

This book is a great book for any teenager to read. This book consists of a variety of true stories about teenagers, by teenagers, or in some cases, by adults writing in about an experience they had as a teenager. I like how this book was divided into sections such as friendship, relationships, tough stuff, and family. This book also includes some poems and some stories have websites you can visit for help or different organizations. A lot of these stories are inspiring and some of them make you really appreciate what you have and the people in your life. This book really makes you think about yourself and things you'd like to do in this world. You realize that some teenagers go through tough stuff and sometimes they weren't sure how to deal with it. The variety in this book allows many teenagers to relate and maybe they can learn a few things on how to deal with friendships, relationships, or family stuff. I would recommend any teenager to read this book.

Chicken soup for the soul was a great adventure. It took my imagination on a fun roller coaster ride. It took me back to sad times as well as happy times. Some of the stories related to my life and others made me appreciate my life. At times It was very emotional, exiting, sad, and happy. The three things that stood out to me the most were the various authors, its styled chapters and last but last least the many morals I learned from the book. Chicken soup for the soul is 101 different stories of love, life and learning. Some of the best selling authors wrote in this book such as jack canfield, mark victor Hanson, and Kimberly kirburger. The book also featured authors my age and younger that I can relate to. Chapters in the book were styled with poems. The section on relationships had a poem by kaleel Jamison. When I finished this book I walked away with a lot of lessons learned. So overall it was an excellent book.

Bestselling authors as well as celebrities such as NSYNC, Bill Cosby, and even Jennifer Love Hewitt. contributed to making what is now a series of the chicken noodle soup book for the soul. What I liked the most was that their were authors my age writing about things that related to the problems in my life. Their were also very young authors which really made me realized that you can write a great story about your life no matter how old you are. There were also celebrities that wrote in the book as well and they also wrote about stuff that I really related to. Reading this book I learned that anybody any age can tell a story and express their feeling through writing.

Achieving dreams, friendship, attitude and perspective, love and life were on a few of the chapter themes in the book. Each chapter was laced with a poem to express the theme. My favorite poem was about friendship. Each poem gave the chapter the perfect introduction as to what the chapter was going to be about. The chapter was filled with stories from different authors writing about the theme. Stories told by real people talking about their life stories and situations. I thing these chapters are were designed to somehow connect with the readers individual life situations and fell them in with some kind of comfort to let them know that theirs other people out there going through or previously went through the same thing.

After reading the book I had learned so many things and even mentally reinforced some of the morals that I was already accustomed to. One of the thing I learned from this book was to cherish life and live each day as if it were your last because you never know what the next day can bring. The back of the book features a couple of pages that have lists of lessons learned throughout the book.

In conclusion I really enjoyed the books various authors, styled chapters, and the many lessons I learned. Each version of these set of books are made to touch a certain person. Make them open to new solutions and make them aware that many people experience exactly what their going through… well you gotta experience the whole package so go get the book…

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Kimberly Kirberger

Why I decided to read this book:
I had brought this anthology many years ago and I have never got around to finishing it, so I decided to finish it. This anthology had also been recommended to me by my pervious teachers and it was been such an inspirational and delightful anthology to read.

Which category on the bingo board this book completes:
This completes the category “Three poems or short stories from ONE anthology”
I haven’t read many anthologies in the past so I was quite eagre to have a reason to be able to read one! I defiantly underestimated how good anthologies are as they are short stories put in a collection, which are usually categorised. The mass effect of all the stories put together gave me a stronger message to take in and remember.

My favourite quote from this book (and why):
My favourite quote from the story “Run with it” is “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are” This motivational quote was my favourite because it told me that I can make a change, and I can make it now. Not tomorrow, not next week, now. We don’t need to wait for the perfect opportunity, we need to find the perfect opportunity. I have been given enough in life and I have the ability to use my resources as a way to make change or help another. What I have is simply enough and I don’t need to wait for the right moment, because the right moment is now.

Something new I learned from this book is:

From the story “ My Best Enemy” I learnt that we have to be open mined about our friends and whom we choose to be friends with. When I was younger I can recall almost picking the people I wanted to be friends with, when really the ones who are some of my best friends now are the complete opposite to my personality and me. We shouldn’t be fussy with what we what because we maybe missing out on something or someone great.

A character or setting in this book that was interesting to me (and why):

In “Supper David” I found David interesting as he was a baby whom always smelt like mustard and I had to google what mustard was because has no clue and was delusional. David also runs around the house naked and I wish my younger sister would have been this cool.

This book contains 101 stories for teenagers about:
Relationships
Friendship
Family
Love and Kindness
Learning
Tough Stuff
Making a Difference
Going For It
The introduction of the book explains that the books can be read straight through or can be used as a guide book, depending on what issue the reader is going through.
I liked this book because the majority of stories and poems are written by teenagers that have dealt with these situations. A few stories are written by adults that remember what it was like to be a teenager. It was interesting reading these stories as an adult. They quickly took me back to the feelings that I had when I was younger. You definitely see it differently now though! One story in particular, "Losing the Us" was of a young girls experience going through her first love. Her feelings were honest and raw.
I would like to keep this book on hand to help students if I know that they are going through a situation. The stories my help them understand that somebody else has felt the same thing. I think it would also be good to keep around as a reference for adults - so we can go back and remember.

When I read this book, I had connected to it so much. This book is about teens that are not living a normal life. I had many feelings toward this book. Depressed feelings and angry feelings. It contains multiple stories. Some of the stories that were involved in the book, are "Death and Spying, Suicide, Eating Disorders” and many more. In one of the stories, it mentions how teens these days suicide for their problems that they cannot settle. For instance love problems or family crises. There are so many morals in the book. One thing I learned from the book was that I should appreciate what I have, because I know it’s not going to be with me anymore. These stories are all really based on true teen lives. I definitely recommend this book to every teen, so that they can also relate to it, and learn some things out of it too!

once upon a time I was sitting in freshman seminar and my friend in front of me (who is actually a werebird) was reading Chicken soup for the teenage soul (even though she is thousands of years old and immortal and was bitten by a werebird). So I went over and stole the book and started reading (and then she bit me and now every full sun I turn into a dove) and it was missing pages 226-229 so I don't know what happened to that girl who got hit by a car. And the book changed my life I went from having $0 and a 0.5" you know what to being rich and having to wear it like a scarf. Jack Canfield is a genius for this incredulous achievement. Also my boyfriend told me that if I don't stop reading it he will break up with me so now I don't have boyfriend. I think I'm addicted to this book. H E L P.

I found this book so enlightening! Each story was atleast a little bit relatable to my own life and I found that it really helped me see how I could handle different situations I am either in or could soon be in differently. The stories were powerful and I felt so many different emotions as I read this book. Although a lot were heartbreaking, i found myself smiling at others! Some stories that I really enjoyed were: Losing the "Us", The Gossiper, My New Best Friend, First Love, The Dance, If I Knew, Reaching out to a Stranger, The Champ, The Home Run, The Leader, and I Am Home. There are stories for every aspect of your life and I thought that was great. There are pomes, as well as stories and I enjoyed the pomes very much.

This book is a life lesson book. There a bunch of stories on girls, about their lives. It deals with romance, friends, school, and much more. These books are made up of a bunch of short storis that will make you laugh, along with learn.
This book has about 300 pages. There are many more different topics, for teens, and more. Even if you don't like to read you could just read one 3 page story a night. These books are so much fun!
One of my favorite stories is one were a boy kisses a girl on her teeth. It was really funny. But not all of the stories are funny like this.
