I really don't know where to begin, so I'll just list all the things that came to mind while reading this book (incoherent rambling):

➤ insta-love
➤ bored until 44%, oh something's happening Wait, that's it?
➤ I need more excitement.
➤ No idea where this story is going, feels aimless until around 65%. Finally something's happening, for real this time. Never thought I'd say this but drama ftw!
➤ Waiting for this part I’m getting out. I’m down to my last four clients. and this one One wants to play me. One wants to buy me. One wants to marry me. And one wants to murder me. Guess each one gets his own book but I figured that out pretty late so my expectations were not what they were supposed to be.

Final thoughts:
➤ More than 80% were the h recounting her past from 2 years ago.
I get teased with one chapter in the present (and that was at the beginning of the book) and then the h thinks back to the beginning of her career and that's it, that's the whole book. I think I've never read something like that before. The author switches back to the present in the last chapter so technically there are two chapters told from the present but come on! I just needed more "action" for me to like this book because it felt like nothing really happened.

description

In a way, this entire book is like one super long prologue. The majority of it takes place two years in the past, when Evie, the MC was just starting her job as an escort. She's struggling financially, a friend presents the possibility of making some good money by working as an escort. A few months in, she meets a man who changes everything for her.

I enjoyed the way the world building was done and how Evie's backstory was presented; all kinda sprinkled throughout... It didn't get tedious or especially boring at any point. At the same time, we didn't really get that much background info on Evie, besides the facts that she's an empath, her mom is mentally ill, she isn't close to her sister and once upon a time she kinda/sorta/not really almost killed a boy she loved. The thing about this is, that the info is presented, but not much explanation is given. And because everything was so surface-level and I didn't really know that much about Evie, I couldn't really connect with her.

Dylan (book one's love interest) was nice. He was sweet and thoughtful. But I feel like we just barely scratched the surface with him too. Which I guess explains why I'm not swooning all over the place or shipping them all that hard. I wasn't convinced they fell in love with each other. There was chemistry, there was attraction. There was no shortage of lust. But love? There was no deep emotional connection. No heart to heart convos. They're in love and still neither of them struggled with the fact that Evie was sleeping with other men? Neither of them agonized over the time they spent apart? I'm not buying it. They're good friends and they care about each other, but they're not in love.

Because of all this, I couldn't get invested in them as a couple and I also don't think they will end up together.

All of the mysteries and unanswered questions were what I found the most compelling about this book. All the while reading this I had this constant need to just know more. More about Evie's relationship with her sister, more about the Wolfe brothers, more about the struggles of dealing with a mentally ill parent, more about the person behind these seemingly innocuous, non-threatening letters and why they freaked Evie out so much. Also, what about Evie's dad? He wasn't mentioned at all.

I'm excited to read more because I feel like there's so much more story left to tell, so much more to develop. So much potential for awesomeness!

**I received a copy of this book through NABC in exchange for an honest review**

4.5 stars. Evie has not had an easy go of it. Her mother's bipolar illness has severely impacted her life, both as a child, and as an adult trying desperately to pay for the care the woman needs. (Note: I know, as we all should, that diagnosable mental illnesses come on a spectrum, and the majority of people with them lead relatively normal lives. Sadly, some people do not.)

Enter the Ma Maison escort service. Evie discovers she can supplement her pitifully insufficient teacher's salary, just by wearing nice clothes, eating good food, and being arm candy for an evening. She doesn't even have to SLEEP with the clients.

Although if she WANTS to...

Enter Dylan, sexy professional gambler, who's lost his mojo. Evie joins him as his Lucky Charm, and discovers she can be more than just an evening's accessory. She may, in fact, have the key to helping her clients unlock their block, to heal their wounded places.

Disclaimer: I'm personally acquainted with the author, and received a free copy of this work.

I really like Evie as a character (which is good, because it's told in first person), wanted to bang Dylan myself, and was unsettled by the thread of a secret admirer... a stalker, perhaps? who is increasingly interested in what Evie is doing and who's she's dating. The book ends in a not-quite cliffhanger, but it is clear that some threads are not yet tied in a bow. Looking forward very much to the rest of the series.

I just finished reading Player *book 1* by Pamela DuMond.

Meet Evie Berlinger - a woman with many layers - a teacher, a sister, a daughter, a friend and an escort.

She has had to overcome a lot of hurdles in her young life, one being an incident that made a lasting impression on her 13 year old self, something that she still thinks about today.

Evie is a very selfless, caring person that tries her best to take care of everyone around her and when her empathic abilities come back in full force, she decides to use them in order to help Dylan McAlister.

Dylan McAlister has an interesting background as well and like Evie, he has had to learn to live with his not so perfect past.

Being an escort can be demanding enough but Evie goes above and beyond for her clients that are going through some tough times.

Amidst all of this, Evie starts to receive some fan mail.

Who is sending these letters to her and what is their ultimate goal?

I know I can’t wait to find out!

This was such an interesting book to read - very refreshing with some very solid characters!
I loved Evie’s friends and I loved meeting Dylan’s family as well.

Thumbs up for Pamela DuMond - I can’t wait to read her other books!

Player ( 21St Century Courtesan Book 1) by Pamela DuMOND. All Evelyn (Evie's) life she has had to take care of her Mom. Being bipolar she's remained locked up a lot and its up to Evie to take care of her sister while she's away. She has finally got her sister in college and she has finished and become a Elementary teacher. The only problem is the bills keep coming and she really doesn't make enough to meet them all especially with all her mom's medications. One of her fellow teachers talks to her about becoming a Courtesan ( High Profile Escort) but Evie turns it down until the bills just keep coming and she gets further and further behind. She becomes one of the best Escorts Ma Maison Agency has. She is full of empathy and she can tune into her clients so well. Everything is going great until she starts receiving stalker letters from someone and on top of that she's beginning to have feelings for Dylan McAlister one of her clients. She finally has enough and wants to get out of the Escort business but she has 4 clients that won't let her go. One is Dylan, one wants to kill her, one wants to buy her and one is playing her. Can she get out with her life? This book was so good. It was a fast read and full of entertainment.

I loved this book. As an empath I identified a lot with Evelyn. A Lot! In a hopeful point of my heart I wanted this to be a stand alone, and yet i knew from it wouldn't be. (Hence the book 1 on the cover) I held out hope that perhaps book 2 would be about a different courtesan. But the more I read the more I want, no need, to know about Evelyn, about her story and then there's the psychological aspect of the consequence of being her. Her past, her gift... and her fan. I have strong ideas of who this fan is. Honestly they're pretty messed up ideas. But I'm dying to know. I adored the wounded men, who try to pretend they are strong and can be if they let her use a gift that many don't care about or understand. I cannot wait to read the movie star. (Living in LA, and my tenuous relationships with actors in my past) I know the second book will be a wild ride. And i can't wait.

Player is the first book in the 21st Century Courtesan Series by Pamela DuMond. Ms. DuMond is a new-to-me author that I wish I had discovered sooner. This story really had so much going on in it. The multi-layered storyline took me on a ride that I won’t soon forget. It’s original, suspenseful, mysterious, sexy, and dramatic- which made for quite a captivating read.
Evelyn Berlinger (Evie) is an empath who had quite a tumultuous childhood, with one particularly tragic event shattering her young existence. Because of this tragedy she suppressed her empathic abilities- shutting them down and tried to get on with her life. Since reaching adulthood, she has taken financial responsibility for her family, which put a heavy strain on her and her bank account. So, when the opportunity comes to earn some extra money- Evie has to give it serious consideration. But working for the Ma Maison Agency as a high priced escort is not without its own issues.
Things get really interesting when she’s assigned a new client, Dylan McAlister, who awakens her empathic abilities. With a powerful attraction, and intense chemistry surging between them, Evie feels like she’s known him forever. But Dylan is a bit of a broken man, with his life crumbling around him. Evie is in a position to help him heal, using her unique skills to get the crux of his problem- if he’ll let her. But with family dramas, and a creepy ‘fan’, things are never going to be quite that simple.

“Because of Dylan I learned my biggest weakness could also be my strongest strength. My empathic reactions — my most tragic wound — is transformed into my super power.”

Her ‘awakening’ takes her on a bit of a cross-country adventure where she not only learns a lot about her client, but also about herself.
I loved following Evie through the story, she really is a wonderfully complex and endearing character- and I found myself rooting for her the whole way through. I loved Dylan and thought that they were perfect together. There were a few characters that I hated, but I think that was Ms. DuMond’s intent.
This book has made me an insta-fan of Ms. DuMond, and of this series- I really can’t wait for the second book, Movie Star’, to be released, so I can continue the story.
Well Done!!

Thank you, Ms. DuMond!

A Real Page Turner

This was my first Pamela DuMond book. It will not be my last. I’m riding this series through to its conclusion!

Evelyn “Evie” Berlinger steams up the page. She’s a 21st century courtesan. A woman skilled in eliciting a man’s most prurient desires as well as psychologically healing what ails him. Is it a gift or a curse?

Dylan McAlister is a high stakes poker player who appears to have lost his mojo. Will a few dates with Evie heal what ails him or will something else develop and lead them down the twisting, treacherous road of love?

I was quickly engrossed in this story. The protagonist is beset by conflicting priorities. Childhood trauma, parental mental illness, financial woes and a demanding employer all combine to make her life a maelstrom of conflict.

I was immediately sucked into this world, much in the way that Evie herself found herself immersed in this world, starting out as a wounded, but wide-eyed innocent, familial obligations quickly moved her into the deeper end of the world of dating for pay.

The mystery interwoven throughout the story creates an urgency and air of impending doom and danger. Who wants Evie dead and why? That question alone will keep the reader turning pages and seeking resolution. Stay tuned for the next book!

WOW!

I was pulled in by Evie’s, or should I say Evelyn’s, story from the very first line. Her past with her maniac mother and younger sister are what start this book and it enthralls you right off the bat. Then you come to learn about what she’s done since that horrible childhood that she just can’t seem to escape. As she starts to come in to her own at her job and helps people out of their own trauma, you come to see bits and pieces of her come a little more unraveled. I can’t help to think that as she heals them; she loses a bit of herself along the way.

Pamela has seem to put every piece of magic that you could want in to a story in this one book; passion, thrills, hope, and just a bit of disaster.
She used all of those to keep you on the edge of your seat, laughing, understanding, and hell even a bit turned on. 😉 I originally start this book at 8:00pm and couldn’t sleep until I finished it at 1:00am in the morning. It was definitely a book I couldn’t put down and would recommend.

I’ve already put the second one on by TBR list and can’t wait to devour it as well.

Addicting Read

I got this first book on a deal today and inhaled it in almost one reading. What a whirlwind and I can’t share much without giving away details. It’s not the traditional romance which is what I usually enjoy but the twists and Evie’s thoughts/ actions as a “unique” escort are a page turner. There is a main guy in the story too but others are introduced so as a reader I kept turning the pages to see where the story ended. Well...it did end but without closure for Evie’s love life. It’s not a cliffhanger but it looks like there are a few other books to Evie’s story and I can’t wait to read them. Definitely recommend if you want a different kind of romance...and can’t wait to see if Evie gets the HEA at the of the series.

An Empathic Escort Heals - Fascinating!!

Evelyn, Evie to her friends, grew up struggling with PTDS due to an early incident. She is also empathic, which makes her shield herself from others. When paid to accompany rich, powerful men to events, she realizes she can see and feel that which is truly disturbing or holding them back by using this power.

Brilliant concept exceptionally well executed. Results in a page-turner of a read which you will not be able to put down. My first read from this author – I will definitely be pursuing more!!

Player by Pamela DuMond a royal flush of a five-star read. This is the first novel in the 21st Century Courtesan series and my first from this author and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into book 2. I don’t know hat I loved most about this one, it was all so sublime. There was love and drama as well as a darkness that will thrill you. This is one of those reads that you will read the surface and then pick up the undercurrents and they will grip you so hard, sometimes that can get a little confusing for me, but this author has a way with words that just flows so well you can keep up with it all. I don’t know if it was Evie as a character that helped me kept me so hooked or just the storyline. This is one of the first reads for this year and I suspect it’s going to be one of the best.

I was completely enthralled and blown away by this book! Player is Book 1 in this series, which is written by Pamela DuMond. There were so many highs and lows and emotional turns that it was definitely a page turner! Evelyn or Evie is empathic. She is very in tuned with others feelings. From the time that she was little she has had to learn to control her empathic surges. Not only that but she has had to deal with a bi-polar mother. Especially when her mother had caused tragedy to others that has followed Evie into adulthood. However, with having to take care of her mother and sister along with student loans, Evie needed to find a way to make more money. Her friend told her of this escort service. Evie decided to try it out and along with that comes the possibility of love and fear. Fear from potential stalkers comes into play because of this job. The potentiality of love also is a factor, which comes to into play with one of her clients. However, her empathic abilities has helped her become one of the most sought after escorts in Chicago. I absolutely loved this book! I really cannot wait for the next book because I need to find out what happens! The characters are amazing and really play well in the storyline. I loved the authors writing style. She really makes you a part of the story. The sexy scenes are severely hot and give just enough for the meat of the story. I was truly impressed with this book and this is a book I would definitely recommend!

This is not typical of what I love to read, but it was recommended so I did read it.
It starts out with a prologue of what happened in Evie's life when she was a young teen, trying to live normally around a bipolar mother, who evidently doesn't take her medication regularly. Pretty tramatic for an impressionable teen. I think this is when she sort of figures out she has a gift. Yes, she had therapy, and I'm pretty sure, it wasn't 100% successful.
Fast forward to current time, and she's now a very highly paid and sought after Escort/Healer who helps rich, powerful men heal through her empathetic sex therapy.
Backing up by two years, it explains her journey of how she came to meet Dylan, and realized she could help heal men who had weaknesses. She fell for Dylan, when it was only supposed to be an escort job. She figured out what she felt was everything he was feeling, and felt she could "fix" him. They have a connection on a pretty deep level, plus the sex is amazing, she never knew it could be like that. She even meets his family.
Well, people are hateful, vengeful beings, and through some bizarre manipulation, she ends up leaving Dylan while they're in Texas. So she's back in Chicago and feeling depressed. A few months later Dylan requests her services again through the agency.
Her employer, Madame Germaine, exploits Evie's rare gift and even Dylan is guilty of sending some of his broken friends Evie's way, via Ma Maison agency.
So, I liked the story concept well enough, really did, surprisingly.
The presentation was rather scattered and tedious. I got to 25% and thought surely it would start moving along faster. I really don't understand why authors don't give readers enough credit to get the point. Reiteration and mindspeak slow a book down so much for me. I really understood what Bipolar Disorder entails just by the word alone, no need to go into the manic highs and depressive lows, over and over. Evie's mom plowed into the Wolfe boys, yes, it messed everyone up, either physically or mentally, move along please. I'm still not sure why Evie felt guilt over that, and probably never will.
Dylan is a gambler, and a preacher's son, a rich preacher, I'm picturing Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker here, though Dylan's mom was sincere. Not sure about Dylan's hateful, money loving brother or his dad.
I think there's something sinnister coming, Evie is getting creepy, knowing mail from a "fan". Dylan begs Evie to cut her hair which is a really huge deal to her, but he also warns her that not everyone sees her as a healer.
Would love to tell you this ends with an HEA, but I can't because it's a psychological, suspenseful,
Cliffhanger, and I would need to buy the next two books to find out what happens next.
I received a free copy of this book through bookfunnel and am giving my honest opinion.

I give PLAYER (21st Century Courtesan Book 1) by Pamela Dumond, 4 stars.

Evie is an escort that gets paid lots of money to help men with their problems. But it wasn't always this way. She needed money fast so she did what she had to take care of her mom and sister. This is the story of when things finally turned for her. It all started with Dylan. A man who wanted a girl on his arm for the high stakes poker tournament. But what he needed was much more than that. He was broken and empath Evie was just the girl to help him. She had to at least try, didn't she? Was he also going to steal her heart in the process?

This was quite an interesting book. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect since this author is new to me. It was incredible. As soon as I started it, I could not put it down. Evie is such an intriguing main character. An empathic escort is something that I never even heard of in a book and this was refreshing to me. Some story angles have been done man times, but this on definitely breaks the mold. The story grips you from the start. There is heartache -- deep rooted grief and heartache. But there is also fun and laughter. And hot and heavy scenes too. I cannot wait to see what the next book has in store. Evie is a new favorite character of mine.

If you like romances on the edgy side, with a bit of darkness thrown in, this book is for you.

I, Evie Berlinger, am no longer an average escort. I’m not paid to drop to my knees behind some sh*tty House of Pies and dispense blow jobs to sad gus in town for a hardware show. My services are retained by powerful, privileged, wealthy men at the top of their professions who have lost their way; self-confidence; the spark that made them great.

‘Be still my heart.’ That was what Evie’s thoughts were when she first meets Dylan, and quite honestly, it is the thought that has been swirling in my mind since I have finished this novel. I have never had the pleasure of reading anything from Pamela DuMond until ‘Player’ and this couldn’t have been a better introduction. I am ADDICTED! If I could give this book more than five stars I would. I devoured it in less than 4 hours and my only complaint is that it was over. I can't wait for the next installment.

This was such a unique take on the good girl needs money, modern escort story. Evie Berlinger is not your typical young woman. She has overcome one hell of a difficult childhood to get where she is today and that isn’t even that great. She finds herself in the hands of Ma Maison Agency. An escort agency. For awhile it gets her by. Kindergarten by day and escort by night. Until she meets the handsome Dylan McAlister. Things start to get a little messy when she starts feeling things she hasn’t felt in years. These two were hot, hot, hot! Like, keep a tall glass of water, and a fan nearby, hot.

Will I ever meet another man I’m attracted to as much as Dylan? Who knows? What I do know is that it’s finally okay for me to be empathic. Not more pushit it away, not more keeping it under wraps. It’s mine to own. Using my empathic ability with clients os a;ready a big messy stew of passion and sex and sadness But if I can help heal these broken men, help them get their power back, I’m cool with that. I’m signing up for a wild ride, but I joined this ruthless rodeo when I was born into my crazy family.

Player by Pamela DuMond is the first book in her 21st Century Courtesan series and what a fantastic first book. This book grabbed me from the first page and didn’t let go until the last page. I easily gave up all of my day to blaze through this one and can’t wait until the next installment comes out. Following the story of Dylan McAlister and Evie it was easy to fall in love with them. Evie is a woman of seduction by night and education by day. Becoming a seductress was supposed to be to help her family but the more she does it the more she falls in love with the power that it gives her. When Evie meets Dylan, she thinks he is going to be just another job, but there is something about Dylan that brings out a desire and passion from her that she wasn’t prepared for. When Dylan first set his eyes on Evie, he wasn’t prepared for what she brought out in him. His broken past kept him from connecting to others, but these two connected from meeting one. Can Evie help Dylan with the broken pieces of himself? Can Dylan keep Evie beyond their night together? There is a touch of suspense to this lovers tale, as Evie’s stalker isn’t happy with her budding love affair with Dylan. Can these two get past their dark pasts, or will they be pulled apart by differences. DuMond is a new to me author, but I am so glad that I picked this book up. The chemistry between Evie and Dylan was palpable, and the playful banter between them made this an easy story to fall into. If you are looking for a great story that will take you away from everything for a couple hours than this is the story for you. This book is a part of a series, and while I haven’t read book two yet, if it’s anything like this one I can’t wait to read it. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read and a new author!

PLAYER (21st Century Courtesan Book 1) by Pamela DuMond was a charmly dark, yet weirdly sweet read, that had me hooked from start to finish.

My first read by this author, and a bit of a first for this type of storyline. So you can say this read was out of my comfort zone. I'm happy I gave this book a chance, because it wasn't what I was expecting and as I said, I was hooked pretty much instantly.

This book has a little bit of everything, from the growing love, to the mysterious stalker. It added that darkness to a otherwise sweet, not your normal, bubbling romance. I say not so normal because of how Evie and Dylan meet. Evie, isn't your normal escort, not just because she's strong, and independent, she's a empath. That "gift" lets her feel her clients emotions, and with that she is able to "heal" them. Right away things with Dylan are different, a different she' doesn't know how to handle, and that difference could lead to something dangerous.

I love their back and forth; there's a added past to present POV switch, that really adds that extra push to this already amazing story. Not to mention the added danger that is Evie's stalker. That alone adds a another layer of darkness, almost burying the light at times. Even when there was happy times, that edge of dark was always present, making you feel unease, and not letting your mind drift too far away. Having such a multi layer and complex tone shifts, makes this book more than a romance, it makes it believable and a hidden diamond. The only other way for you to know what I mean, is to read this book.

In saying that, that is where I leave you, so please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you will fall into this tale of love, danger, and learning that it's okay to sometimes heal yourself.

Happy Reading.

PLAYER (21st Century Courtesan Book 1)
By: Pamela DuMond
5 out of 5 stars

The story PLAYER (21st Century Courtesan Book 1) by Pamela DuMond is a New Adult romance book. It is a story that grabbed my attention from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. I loved reading about the characters of Dylan McAlister and Evie. Evie is a woman who is a teacher by day and escort by night. The second job is because of her caring for a family member. She is a kind, resourceful, strong, and independent woman. Meeting Dylan brings out a desire and passion within her that she never showed with other clients. You could call Dylan a broken man when Evie meets him. As she gets to know him better, she finds that they have a connection. She is empathic. Can Evie help him heal what is broken? What do the cards hold for Evie and Dylan? Read this book to find out. There is some mystery and suspense in this story. I wondered what was going to happen next. Evie has a stalker and you wonder why they have targeted her and if their identity will be revealed. I loved reading about the bantering back and forth between Dylan and Evie. They have a chemistry together and there are some steamy scenes that are included in this story. There are other additional characters that you are introduced to that are kind and friendly. I enjoyed reading about them. Then there are those that have their own personal agenda. This story had my emotions going up and down the entire time. I grew to love Dylan and Evie with each chapter that I read. This is an amazing story that I would recommend reading. This is the first book in a series and I look forward to reading the next story.

So this book was a pleasant surprise as far as it was definitely not what I expected I would be reading after reading the synopsis. This is my first book by this author and I loved everything about it except the ending…. The flow was awesome and I wasn't even paying attention to where I was in the story and then just like that it was done and I had no idea this story would be continued, thankfully it did not end on a huge cliffhanger but there was enough of one that I wanted to throw my kindle when I was done.

I loved Evie once I got to know her, and that didn't take long after reading about her life growing up and then where she was in the present. She has a special ability that has allowed her to make enough money to take care of her mother and her sister, but she wants out and has finally gotten to the point where she can move on yet there are a few men that are making that very hard for her as well as a stalker that she just can't shake. She has fallen in love with Dylan, one of her clients and this whole part of the storyline had me so frustrated and although I loved them together they still had me so angry and I wanted to crawl through my kindle and slap them both.

I need the rest of this story, I have so many questions and I need to know what the future holds for Evie, will she be able to identify her stalker, will Dylan and Evie figure it out and have a future together? And so many other things…

I highly recommend this book, it was awesome and I can not wait to check out what else this author has available.

Player was a great 5 star read and book one in the 21st Century Courtesan series. I was pulled right in from the beginning with a childhood memory that was heartbreaking for Evie. I actually finished this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down.

I am not a rickety shed. Will I survive the storm that blows through? -Evie

Evie is a teacher trying to take care of her mother and sister and is barely paying off her student loans. A friend offers her an opportunity to make some good money, at first she turns it down but quickly changes her mind.

She is now a very popular escort in Chicago with Ma Maison. There are several people interested in Evie. Evie is considered a problem solver and can help people. She was just about to take a 30 day leave to spend time with her family but she was personally requested by someone who needed her badly. Dylan is desperate for her help, she goes with him to a high-stakes poker party and things progressed from there. Things take an interesting twist for Evie with her family, and an unexpected stalker.

I really liked Evie’s story. There is something about her that drew me right in. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. We get past and present POV’s which added to the story as well. This is my first read from Pamela and I loved it, she pulls you right in with her writing. The ending isn’t what I expected and now I’m anxiously awaiting the next book to see what happens. If you're looking for a different type of read with danger, sex, love and so much more I highly recommend this book.

Player is the first book in the 21st Century Courtesan series by Pamela DuMond. I had never previously read any of the author’s work before but I was intrigued by the blurb and decided to give it a go.
The book was well written, with really great characters and it was flowing really well, then it just…ended. I was rather thrown by the ending. It felt like the book just came to an abrupt halt and I wasn’t prepared for it to be over. I still had so many questions that hadn’t been answered yet. At least it didn’t leave you on a cliff hanger. I just need to hope that book 2 in this series will continue Evie and Dylan’s story as I really need to know what the future holds for them.
I totally adored the main character Evelyn (Evie) Berlinger. Evie is a kindergarten teacher by day and high class escort by night. She has a special gift, as an empath, she is able to feel the feelings of those around her, leading to her helping them to get over any issues they may have. This gift makes her services sought after through the escort agency she belongs to.
As an escort Evie never actually had sex with any of her clients. That is, until she met high stakes poker played Dylan McAlister. There is an undeniable connection between the two of them. Just as the plot gets really interesting around these two, the book comes to an end. Praying that their story will continue in the next instalment in this series.

Evie Berlinger is a kindergarten teacher by day, escort by night. Evie had a whirlwind of a childhood where she learned to suppress her empathic abilities. Now that she’s all grown up, she realizes that she can use this “power” to heal her clients. These men pay enormous amounts of money to the Ma Maison Agency just to be with her.

Though the blurb on the back of the book speaks of four different clients, this book mainly focuses on one in particular; Dylan McAlister. I’m assuming each book in the series surrounds a client in particular. Dylan is swoon worthy. Him being a gambler kind of turned me off a little but other than that, he’s the man. I believe he’s also good for Evie and I would like to see them together in the end. This story is about Evie becoming who she was meant to be and believing in herself. Dylan helps her with that and more. There is a bit of drama with Glenn (the pervert), some mystery with her fan (stalker?) and many sizzling moments with Dylan. There were a few parts that I found a little long but the story overall kept me interested to keep reading.

There is not a happy ending. This story is a part of Evie’s life. I’m interested to see what will happen with her next client and curious to find out who her fan is. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

****ARC Received for Honest Review****

I read the prologue to this book, Tycoon, from that moment on, I wanted to dive into the world of the modern escort. Pamela is doing a bit of a departure from the books I have read of hers in the past, and she did it so well with Tycoon, the prologue and the full book Player.

In this story, you have Evie, the escort, who has special talents and no, they are not of the sexual talents. She is empathic and it serves her well with a multitude of clients that need that type of service. She is also running from a past that left deep scars and has hardened her heart. Throw in a new client, Dylan, who is wealthy, gorgeous and just as broken as she is. He holds his own mysteries and rough edges.

This book is just a taste of what I know will come in the next books, and thank goodness or I would be strangling Pamela now. I was so enthralled by the chemistry, tension, ease, sensual touches, and the way Evie and Dylan play off each other. A connection that I believe scares them both. I read this story in one seating and now I am pounding on author Pamela’s door, begging for the next one. At every turn, I don’t know what she will divan next. This is a must read.-Review by Catherine(Catty)

Player (21st Century Courtesan Book 1)
By Pamela Dumond

Ok so I didn’t know what I was getting into when I started to read this book. Let me tell you it wasn’t long before I couldn’t put the book down. What we have here is not your normal romance book, which was a nice break away from our everyday romance stories. So, we have Evie who is a teacher, Dylan who is the son of a church leader who has left the church. Evie has most of her life looked after her mom who suffers from mental health issues and her younger sister. But now with mounting bills, Evie decided she needs to earn extra money. One of her friends suggests that she becomes an escort at first, she says no but now she is buried under a mass of bills and decides to join her friend at Ma Maison Agency. Evie had no idea that she would be such a good escort. Enter Dylan one of the agencies clients. There was an instant spark between Evie and Dylan but was falling in love with him in her plans? Dylan was not having any luck at the poker tables and is hoping Evie who he sees as his lucky charm will change things at the tables for him. What I liked about this book was that the story just flowed and that’s what made it an easy and enjoyable read. If book one is this good, I think we are in for a good series.
