As someone who loves films, both Bollywood and Hollywood, I found this one to be a very fun and insightful read. I loved learning about the progression of Bollywood cinema compared to Hollywood. It was fascinating to read about how many of Bollywood's classics were created and the many public figures that came out of Bollywood. I am also biased though because I love Devdas lol.
This book had a lot of good information, but there were a lot of things that made it difficult to follow. It needed a good edit; I caught a lot of mistakes that weren't just typos. There were also a lot of enormous sidebars and pictures that interrupted the flow of the main text, especially several full-page interludes where by the time I'd gotten to the next part of the main text I'd forgotten what the line of thought was. It would also be hard to follow for someone who doesn't speak Hindi because the authors don't translate the song lyrics or movie titles into English.
The best, briefest history of Bollywood available. If you are interested in Bollywood and how it's changed as Indian society has, then I highly recommend this book.
Also, keep in mind that this is a coffee table book. While the pictures are lovely it is not a book that is easily read. Still, better than any Bollywood history I've ever read, online or otherwise. Great if you're a film buff.
