The day I wrote my first computer program... he launched his third platinum album. The night I drank my first beer... he spent in jail. The day he tried to get me fired... I ended up on his tour.
I'm a college junior with my whole future ahead of me. And he's the vice I'd give it all up for.
Haley and Jax's story continues in Bad Girl and concludes in Wicked Girl! A new adult romance series from bestselling author Piper Lawson. If you like nerds, hot rock stars, friends-to-lovers, enemies-to-lovers, pet skunks, home reno shows, flip phones or existentialism? You’ll love WICKED.
Piper Lawson is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of smart, steamy romance! She writes about women who follow their dreams (even the scary ones), best friends who know your dirty secrets (and love you anyway), and complex heroes you’ll fall hard for (especially after talking with them). Brains or brawn? She’ll never make you choose. Piper lives in Canada with her tall, dark and brilliant husband. She believes peanut butter is a protein, rose gold is a neutral, and love is ALWAYS the answer.
This year I am working on my TBR and author’s backlists.
Haley is a college student and has been invited to tour with the rock band headed to Jax. Jax is a rockstar who is battling his own demons and fighting his attraction to Haley.
This was an interesting read. One thing I was impressed by was the writing style of the author and how much she knew about music, concerts, sound recording, etc. I didn’t realize it was going to be a slow burn and I am not a fan of those. So, I don’t think I am going to continue the series because it is a trilogy.
The following ratings are out of 5: Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Romance: 💛🖤💜💙❤️ Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔 World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌏 Character development: 😕🤬🤯😎🥰
The Hero:Jax Jamieson - Rock God, alpha-male, richer than sin. He is the bad boy of rock and roll with a secret that the world doesn’t know. He is the lead singer of Riot Act, one of the biggest bands in the world.
The heroine(s):Haley Telfer - her mom passed away last year and she took a semester off. She lost her scholarship and now is a junior in college and trying to work her way through college. Hailey is a computer programmer and loves the music industry. Jax Jamieson is her ideal. She applies for an internship at Wicked Records where Jax has a recording contract.
The Story: When Haley arrives at Wicked Records for the first day of her internship, she immediately has a run in with her idol Jax Jamieson and is put on his tour. She has to complete the internship for her degree program so finds herself on the bus within no time.
Joe Arden and Savannah Peachwood did the narration and did a great job. I have listened to quite a few audiobooks with each of these narrators and they are two of my favorites. Their voices fit the characters well and it was an enjoyable listen.
The story was a bit more complex than some of the rockstar romance books I have read before. I do love the rockstars on tour trope and Piper Lawson did it well. I liked the intricacies of the plot as well. Jax has issues at home and wants to quit touring and he also is blocked and can’t write anything good anymore, though he is contractually obliged to do one more album. Haley has her own issues, since her mother died she has been trying to find her biological father and she is trying to create a new kind of music app for one of her classes.
If you’re looking for slow burn romance with a moody rocker hero, and a seemingly sweet and unique heroine, then Good Girl is it. Lawson does a fantastic job stacking the building blocks in book one of this three part series. We get to know Haley and Jax. We learn some of their past and see them grow and change with each other. The tension in this one is more sweet than steamy, and on the steam scale I’d say it rates about a 3 out of 10, but if you’re looking for a story that’s more budding romance than smut, then this first book won’t disappoint. It does end with a bit of a to be continued, but the first part of the story does feel complete. It feels like an entire season of a show and book two will be season two. Also I’m pretty sure they are both LIVE already! So check out Haley & Jax and their interesting band of side characters I already want more of also!!
Because a million women might scream his name…but he whispers mine. Just this line from the synopsis sold me on the book….but I feel like my hearing must be off because I didn’t hear many whispers…
They get off to an abysmal start, honestly terrible. He tried to get her fired after she thought he was going to attack her. The miscommunication was rife, but I’ve never started a book with the FMC nearly punching the sh*t out of the MMC, so that was interesting.
The MMC was a complex rockstar. He was sarcastic and came across as a massive assh*le, but at the same time, he would go out of his way to grab his friend’s Lego Death Star, so it wouldn’t get left on the tour bus. The man cares.
Reading so much has probably made me slightly jaded when it comes to age gaps, but 8 years isn’t a massive jump. The age difference was made out to be this taboo thing, she was 20 and he was 28. Again I’ve read wayyyyy larger gaps.
The MMC would frequently use their age difference as a reason to stay away from her. He would also bring up the fact that she didn’t really like to be touched and the strict fraternisation rule they all have to obey. Excuses … Excuses
I enjoyed the long conversations they had and the majority of the time I felt the chemistry, but then there were occasions where I wouldn’t feel anything between them.
In one situation (when he was giving her the cold shoulder… again), she asked him if she had ‘done something wrong to receive this reaction’. It was near the end of the book and her personality seemed to just switch. She would go from this outgoing confident person to meek all of a sudden. It felt like they were strangers and she craved his approval.
Just because this man is acting like a d*ck, don’t assume you did something wrong, the man could just be a d*ck for no reason. It was sometimes hard to keep track of the ebb and flow that was their ‘friendship’.
Back to the ‘whispers’ I mentioned earlier. This book was a slow burn (didn’t realise this prior), so it had a forehead kiss (no one is counting that 😶) and one proper kiss. No spice in sight. Maybe it’s just me but the first line of this synopsis strongly suggested spice I feel.
Note: The synopsis I’m referencing, which is featured at the start of the book, isn’t the same one used on GR. No idea why …
The first book was free and the second book I have to pay for (I see what she did there and I respect it), but I think I’m stopping here.
This is a great start to the trilogy (I'm hoping there's an HEA by then). I hate... and kinda love... cliffhangers. It's complicated...much like these characters. Jax and Haley have plenty of chemistry with enough angst and denial to fill a stadium.
UPDATED 12/2023:
I'm so glad I revisited this story Jax Jamieson and Haley Telfer are fabulous when they are together and angsty and heartbreaking when they aren't.
I shouldn’t be here. Being this restless around this girl won’t end well.
But I can’t walk away tonight. -- Jax Jamieson
I look forward to finishing the trilogy in the coming weeks
I read and listened to the audio book. The narrators, Joe Arden and Savannah Peachwood, are great for their respective MCs.
This is a pretty decent series. Haley has issues with being touched by strangers and has no filter when it comes to voicing her thoughts (which she does often and freely, to our great enjoyment!) She is extremely intelligent and can code and create analytical aps with the best of them. But Haley's life gets complicated when she goes to work for Wicked as an intern, and is sent to "babysit" superstar Jax Jamieson, one of Wicked's top musicians.
Piper Lawson is a gifted story teller. Haley's forthright manner had me laughing out loud more than once. The friendship and slow burn attraction between Jax and Haley make for a sweet read.
Initially, I was going to pass on this one, because this is book one of a four part series, but Haley's quirky but gutsy character and Jax's own sad family situation kept me interested throughout the first and the second installments. I really liked both Haley and Jax as persons. They became real to me after a while and I really cared to know how their story would end. Mercifully, I didn't find much filler in any of the installments, and that is what kept me moving on to each new installment. Highly recommended!
Short and sweet. Not as much of a romance as it's portrayed to be-very slow burn. It ends on a cliffhanger that feels more like the book just isn't finished. It wasn't such an enticing story line that I feel compelled to read the second one-but since they're short, I might get around to it.
This is a solid "3" rating, except the narrative has been divided into 3 books and for that blasphemy the first 1 /3 gets only 2 stars. If you want more money, charge more! But don't tease us that we are beginning a series of three books. Loved Haley's quirkiness, her encyclopedic knowledge of music from the Blues forward, her devastation over the loss of her mother, even her dislike of being touched (she does the touching, if there is any, that way she's always in control). Too bad I won't be reading the other two "books" and finish the story arc (not going to pay more than the $2.99 I shelled out for what appeared to be a book, not 1/3 of a book. Disappointed? Yes. And I'll remember that for Piper's future book(s).
I Loved this story, a really enjoyable Rockstar Romance with a different twist. Nerdy girl Haley Telfer, finds herself on tour with one of the biggest Rockstars in the world, a dream come true right? Jax Jamieson, Rock God, Sexy as Hell, lead singer in the bad Riot act gets more than he bargains for when Haley gatecrashes onto his tour, to assist Jerry the sound guy. She gets under his skin, they are opposites, she hates people touching her, He thinks he is too old for her and the rules are No hooking up with people who work for you. But they have chemistry, they talk to one another like equals, they enjoy each others company and Jax finds himself telling Haley things about his life that he hasn't told anyone. There is a lot going on in this story with both Jax and Haley dealing with personal issues but it is so easy to follow and get caught up in. The details were perfect, and I Loved the slow burn it made it feel more believable, well thought out and it didn't feel rushed. I adored the characters, the banter, the emotions, just everything and I am eagerly awaiting the 2nd book. I am totally invested in Jax and Haley's budding Romance. Excellent work Piper Lawson, Superb book.

Haley and Jax's story continues in Bad Girl and concludes in Wicked Girl!
Thanks to my friend Annie for recommending we buddy read this one. I'm compelled to binge the series and so happy to be wisked away into the wickedness 😊
I'm absolutely in love with Jax & Hales and their budding romance.
Rockstar Romance 🎤❤️🎸 | 3.5⭐️ 🌶🌶 Fan girl Haley turns employee. Shes a tec student that gets a job working for rockstar Jax Jamieson on his tour. •Cute romance with an age gap •Lots of great characters (band mates and crew members)
Great Free Audiobook on Spotify!!! 🎧 📖 Or if you want a quick read as well.
This may not be as raunchy as a lot of the books my grandmother reads, but it's pretty raunchy. It's got an interesting story. The writing isn't fabulous, but it is readable and doesn't have too many editing errors. Whoever came up with the idea of writing 1 story and breaking it up into several books, was only after money. They may sell more books that way, but they annoy their audience. If an author writes a good story with a beginning, middle, and end, they can still use the same main characters in more stories (as has been done countless times) and they don't disappoint their audience so much. Let me tell you, I'll go out and get more stories by an author that is good and writes a complete story in 1 book. I never thought a raunchy little romance would stop part way through a story, but this one does. Not sure how many books follow that are a continuation of the story, but it wasn't written well enough for me to continue reading it.
The h is bored with usual set of guys. She doesn’t have the nice experience in sexual department.
“What I can deduce from my own meager experience, porn, and Serena’s war stories is that guys like to be teased, squeezed, popped until they burst all over you, at which point they’re basically deflated hot air balloons taking up the entire bed.”
Ohkay.....
But she loves the rockstar H. Luckily she gets a technician kind of job on his next tour. But unfortunately when she meets him he is an asshole to her. He tries to fire her. Ugh... So not my type of H, who are such whines. Boring.
This was entertaining but doesn't feel super believable: how a rockstar would trust on intern this fast and easily. And she was ment to work for them only a month. I felt for a secondary character who had an illness. Characters were likable.
This was easy to read, something cute.
The drama at the end felt a bit unnecessary: they weren't that close. But well, she was young so I can understand her being a bit dramatic.
I received a copy and voluntarily left a review and all opinions are my own.
Piper Lawson has quickly became one of my favorite authors but never has she had me addicted so easily to a storyline as she has with her Wicked series. From the moment I began Good Girl and met Haley and Jax and began the Riot Act Tour, I was enthralled by the push and pull between these two magnetic characters and was left anxiously awaiting the second book in the series Bad Girl. In fact, I am not ashamed to admit that I might have went a little crazy messaging the author that I needed the next book in the series ASAP! And as a natural born introvert, that is so not like me to do that. But what can I say, Piper Lawson's writing inspired me to act a little crazed just to read more of Haley's good girl meets Jax's bad boy rocker.
Haley Tefler is an introverted code girl who is all about her love a music and Science and technology. That is until she gets the chance to go on tour with Riot Act and gets to meet her idol Jax Jamieson up close and personal. Little did she know that when she stepped on that tour bus, her life was going to be forever changed and turned upside down by one hot as hell rocker and the mystery behind his smoldering eyes. It was enchanting watching this timid computer nerd begin to learn who she really is and her own worth in this world and watch her sexy innocence and brilliant mind captivate and seduce Jax.
Jax is all sexy rocker boy until you get to know the mysterious man that he never lets his fans see, then you can't help but be mesmerized by so much more than just his musical talent such as his big heart and integrity. I was hooked from the moment he set eyes on Haley and my attraction to everything that was Jax grew until I was left obsessed with eyes glazed over waiting for more time with this gorgeous musical genius in “Bad Girl”.
Piper Lawson brings us crashing onto the tour bus of the Riot Act so we can experience the rush of new love between a good girl and her hot rocker fantasy. I highly recommend “Good Girl” for an all consuming love story that is sure to leave you a little dazed and crazed holding a lighter waiting for more stage time and another journey with this delicious fictional rocker and his ever so inquisitive and shy heroine. These two are a couple created by Piper Lawson that you will not soon forget and are sure to become one of your favorites penned by this amazing author.
This kept popping up on my FB so I decided to give it a try. It was a sweet little rockstar romance. Jax is a rockstar with a chip on his shoulder and Haley is a college student who interns for his label as someone who works the music behind the scenes. These two start off wrong but build a friendship and a theirs a spark of a forbidden romance bc rule number 1- don’t hook up with anyone on tour....
It was cute and sweet but it wasn’t for me sadly. I prefer strong alpha males that are highly JEALOUS and possessive. Their was NO POSSESSIVE yummy-ness. So if soft and sweet, slow burns are for you you will probably like this. If your like me and need some Danger, edge and depravity or even a mild protective, possessive alpha - yeah not gonna hit anything.
-ends on a cliffhanger -rockstar and college student -shy girl -no drama -sweet and slow burn
“What about your Zen shit, Ni>een?” Brick calls. “You always say we should live in the present.” “I’m in the present. It sucks.”
So I really was just looking for a hot romance with the rocknroll trope - and this as not that.
The spice level was severely limited to agnst and brief contact. It was a very very slow burn that had me flipping through some chapters trying to figure out when it ‘got good’. So the writing style felt very contrasting with the cover and title.
The main redeeming quality was the dynamic characters. Apparently no spice meant more pages for character development! Who knew heheh`
The characters were stupidly well-developed featuring Haley’s lack of a filter and Jax’s devil-may-care swagger. Even the side characters gave me spurts of hilarious banter and a funny group dynamic that I can see spin-offs for each of these fun characters. But ya have to be patient to get there. And that is not my style of book.
Oh my gosh I LOVED it!! Rockstar done 100% right ❤️❤️
This was my first read from a new to me author and I couldn’t read it fast enough! Jax is exactly the brooding, kinda broken rockstar I adore & Haley is fantastically quirky & smart. Gah! Absolutely loved this slow burn and am diving straight into book 2.
5 SLOW BURN STARS!! Wow, what a beautiful slow burn rockstar romance that keeps you flipping pages. I absolutely loved Jax and Haley. These two will have your heart pounding while you read their story. This is my first book by Piper Lawson and she has won a new fan. I can't wait to read the next book.
