The boy she loved is gone. The man I've become doesn't deserve her.
Delilah Sage was my slice of peace. Pain filled in the rest. She kept me from sinking. I promised her forever. But our dreams never stood a chance. And I ruined the only good in my life.
The regret is suffocating. Constant and relentless. Trying to move on is pointless. My need for Delilah is stronger than ever. But her future is bright. And I’ll only drag her down.
If only this was that simple, right?
A job brings me back to our small town. The plan is to keep my distance. These scars are mine alone. But Delilah has always been my weakness. And resisting her isn’t an option.
Harloe Rae is a USA Today & Amazon Top 10 bestselling author. Her passion for writing and reading has taken on a whole new meaning. Each day is an unforgettable adventure.
She's a Minnesota gal with a serious addiction to romance. She’s always chasing an epic happily ever after. When she’s not buried in the writing cave, Harloe can be found hanging with her hubby and son. If the weather permits, she loves being lakeside or out in the country with her horses.
She writes emotional, heartfelt romance with swoony heroes and sassy leading ladies. Her titles are available on Amazon.
Oh my god, did I get ZEED or what?? Harloe’s book boyfriends always sucker-punch me in the hottest, must surprising ways, but I think I just got myself a new favorite. Zeke: you are ONE delicious man!!! – FIVE STARS, all the way.
In MISS, Harloe Rae has simply outdone herself. With each book, her writing keeps getting better and better, and her characters hop off the pages and into your heart.
First, let me talk about the little town our heroine, Delilah, lives in: Garden Grove is depicted so well I feel like I’m walking around, there, between the unique characters we get in contact with. I love Delilah’s little coffee shop and want my java there too.
Then, I needed to say a few words about the side characters: Zeke’s boss and work buddies had me cracking up with their manly-man comments and their cat-calling of Delilah, keeping Zeke on his jealous toes. Next up, I love Delilah’s BFFs. We already got one of their stories in GENT (if you haven’t read it, dive into it after this one—the two novels are complete standalones, but you get to re-meet many of the characters, as well as this delightful little town.)
Delilah’s mother also makes her appearance in MISS, and their relationship warmed my heart. The old gossip lady in Garden Grove could literally carry a rom-com of her own. She’s as hilarious as Zeke’s father is despicable. God, isn’t it amazing to get a real bad guy in the picture, someone you can touch and feel and you just want to jump into the book and take care of things yourself? Grrr.
And now, to the best of it all, Zeke and Delilah and their beautiful love story: As in all of Harloe’s novels, you can expect lighthearted, wonderful romance with a touch of angst, nothing too heavy: you won’t go sleepless due to a broken heart. But in MISS you still get some real-life issues, a struggle that is familiar for too many—domestic violence and its repercussions, a boy suffering, a boy growing up, surviving, turning into one hell of a man despite all odds.
When the love is as deep, loyal, and never-ending and the hero as perfect as Zee (*reviewer swallows hard at the thought, wishing he were real*), the road to their happy ending is going to be rich, colorful, and certain.
HOT, Heartbreaking, and utterly swoony. I hugged my Kindle when I finished. This is a second-chance love story you will devour and adore.
Harloe's books just get better and better! Trip/Delilah and Zeke/Zee's love story is one you won't soon forget. It starts in darkness, Zee forced to leave his home, but one thing he never can leave behind is his love for Delilah. Their fight and determination against all odds will pull you in and make you laugh, cry, and fall in love.
Harloe Rae delivers the ultimate second chance with Miss. Sweet swoon and angst swirling together creating a book that captures you and doesn’t let go with Zeke and Delilah. I swear I didn’t think Harloe could top my favorite stalker book boyfriend, but here she goes making me fall head over heels for Zeke. Prepare to completely lose your heart to him the second you start reading this because this man is irresistible! These two have a story that is what romance dreams are made of. Couples like Zeke and Delilah are what made me fall in love with this genre. That soul deep true love that not even time or distance can ever really break. The road back to each other wasn’t smooth and easy but the way they love each other is absolutely breathtaking. All they go through and have been through hits you right in the feels and Harloe’s beautiful writing brings the characters to life in a way that makes you truly FEEL every bit of it.
Harloe Rae nails the gut-wrenching, bittersweet emotion of a second-chance love story with Miss and delivers a tender, steamy and sigh-worthy romance. Five years ago, Trip left town and didn’t return, breaking Delilah’s heart, but he’s back and ready to fight for another chance with her. But he has deep emotional wounds that cause him to question his worthiness and then hesitate and stumble in his effort to win her back. His and Delilah’s road to reconciliation isn’t simple or easy, which makes their hard-fought happy-ever-after all the more satisfying. You’ll fall hard for Delilah and Trip. Miss is a witty, sexy and poignant romance that delivers all of the feels.
ARC provided, but this review was voluntarily and honestly written.
AS SWEET AS A CUPCAKE WITH A GOOEY CENTER WITH A BIT OF HOTNESS IN THE DELICIOUS MIX.
A second chance, swoon-worthy romance.
This isn't my first book by Harloe Rae, I read one of her first books and I can definitely see a vast improvement on her writing, so this is an author that is just getting better and better. I was hooked from the beginning, second chance romance's are my guilty pleasure and MISS ticked all the right boxes for this kind of romance.
Zeke aka Zee and Delia aka Trip, are teenage sweetheart's but after living with an abusive father for years Zee can't stand it anymore, he moves away with a promise to set up a better life for their future and one day come back for Trip.
Years pass and Zee still hasn't returned for Deliah who has been away to college and is now the owner of a bakery with her best friend Raven who'S story is in the previous book GENT. Deliah has moved on in life except in her love life, anger has replaced hope and Deliah tries every day to put Zee from her mind until a construction crew move into town and she feels his presence before she sees him.
Zeke is wounded inside and out. His past refuses to let him go, keeping him chained to the horrible memories. He hasn't been able to move on with a better life.
Zee moves from town to town with a construction crew and is angry on the inside for never getting the chance to fulfil his promise to Trip and it wasn't for lack of trying, Zee really did have a bad series of events from the moment he moved away leaving Trip behind.
MISS is a story of second chances, regrets and forgiveness. A sweet romance with no major angst or drama. Zee has a lot of explaining and catching up to do and his mission is to win back his girl.
"He's a master craftsman with those talented hands, and I'm the current project"
"Have you missed me?" "Only with each breath, I take"
This is the second standalone book in the #bittersweetheat series, following the events after Gent. Recommended for one of that lazy Sunday kind of day, so read and enjoy.

I loved Miss! It's a story so sweet, sexy and easy to read. And the chemistry of the characters hooked me from their first dialogue.
Zeke and Delilah are a beautiful couple that is destined to be from their first encounter. But due to some circumstances they are separated for 5 years. Zeke feels that he does not deserve Delilah and does not want to see her again, uggggg wanted to slap him more than once. I know his concern is always Delilah, but it kills me that he feels he's not worth it.
Delilah is such a sweet girl, who works hard to achieve what she wants.
When they see each other again, they feel that the feelings they felt for each other surface again and with greater strength. UFFF that chemistry is felt through the pages.
I love this couple, their scenes are so sweet and loaded with chemistry, I love their encounters, their fights, their dialogues, I loved how the author handled the times and although it was a quick read, it did not feel that way.
I loved the plot, the secondary characters, everything, is my first reading of this author but without a doubt will not be the last, if you are looking for a sweet reading, with great characters, this is perfect for you. Highly recommended
OMG.. Harloe Rae just gets better and better with each book she writes. I want to say this is my favorite of the 5 books she has written but Redefining Us will always hold a special place in my heart. I took a chance on buying a book from a new author that I have never heard of on a rec from another authors post. After reading that book (Redefining Us) I had to reach out to this author and tell her how much I loved it ..The sincerity that came from Harloe in response to my messages is so honest and appreciated. Harloe is not only an amazing writer but she is a genuine person who you can see loves to hear from her readers and puts her all in writing for us readers. I just had the pleasure of reading Miss and I absolutely loved it.<3.. It was wonderful to see characters from previous books be up front and center in Miss. The relationship between Trip and Zee began when they were young kids and has lasted through heartache and distance. I love how Harloe shows the softer side of Zeke(Zee). I can only hope in future books to come from this author that we will see more of Zeke and Trip(Delilah). Do not hesitate to 1 click the moment Miss goes live. I promise you will not be disappointed. I am glad I took a chance on an unknown author to me and 5 books later still love her and her writing as much as that 1st 1-click .<3 <3 <3
This was one hell of a heart-wrenching angsty second chance romance! It grabs you from the very first page. I am sooo happy I got Zeed! I couldn’t put it down!
The stars aligned as Zeke moved in next door to the Sage family or so she thought.
But zeke Kruegan is the love that got away, the breaker of hearts and promises, of hope and dreams.
Delilahs innocence morphed into darkness as their encompassing love flies high in the wind reaching out to the unknown.
A lifetime of abuse surrounded Zeke, no freedom no respite.
It was a choice between his girl and his life but can you ever regret something that wasn't really a choice?
I got so emotionally involved in this story that tears of sadness rolled down my cheeks. My inner voice shouting to Zeke but he couldn't hear me.
Delilah so brilliant, selfless, gorgeous and successful danced upon my heart with agility and grace leaving a desire for cakes and cookies in her wake.
Zeke so broken, resilient and stubborn. He broke my heart more than once whilst I was reading this but it doesn't stop me loving him.
An utterly captivating story of knowing your one true love. Beautiful and sorrowful to the very end.
One of the best second chance romance reads I have read. It's not all hearts and flowers, it's real, it's gritty and it's full of delicious angst.
Harloe Rae is definetly going onto my one click list now as this book has completely stolen my heart!
Harloe Rae is so talented and it shows spectacularly in Miss!
Miss is beautiful! This book is the second book in the #BitterSweetHeat series and shows readers excellent range and diversity after the release of Gent earlier this summer. By this I mean, Miss is a sweet, sexy second chance romance while Gent was an enemies-to-lovers romance slightly heavier in angst. And I’ve loved them both for different reasons. Miss can be read as a complete standalone – however I’m always a fan of reading a series in order.
Miss is Delilah and Zeke’s story. Zeke has only ever loved one woman – Delilah Sage. After breaking his promise to return—to leave her only briefly—Zeke returns to their small town. Its been more than five years since the pair laid eyes on one another. While their hearts have never hardened towards one another, the same dilemmas that drove them apart to begin with still exist. It was so easy to pick up Miss and read it in one sitting. It’s hot the way a romance should be, and the love shared between Zeke and Delilah was beautiful. The pair shared this unweaving bond that even five years apart couldn’t sever. And like Harloe Rae has demonstrated repeatedly now, the woman can write the hell outta sexy times! I loved the juxtaposes of this hero. He’s sweet, sexy and uber romantic but also tortured and severely low in self-worth. His past haunts him. Honestly, my heart ached for him any time he revisited his past and as he dealt with his self-worth. Delilah provides Zeke with a foundation—she loves him for who he is and holds unweaving belief in his goodness. She has never doubted his love for her. That is, until he leaves and never returns… breaking her heart in the process. She’s easy to like, sweet, dependable and funny.
I can’t wait to see what Harloe Rae intends for the third book in the #BitterSweetHeat series. As a matter of fact—I want a front row seat and popcorn ready for when it releases because the last two books have been amazing!
He thought he was doing the right thing when he left her behind. He never expected that moving on would not be an option because you can't live without your heart.
When Zeke moved to a new neighborhood, they were just middle schooler's, he never expected to meet his forever girl. What started out as a friendship with the girl next door, turned into an all-consuming love.
It's been five years since he left and promised that he would come back for her. He never did. Delilah gave up waiting for him years ago. Now he's back in town on a temporary construction job. She never expected to see him again. When he left and broke his promise to her, he also broke her heart.
Zeke's back and the feelings he had for Delilah never faded. And one look at her, everything he left behind comes flooding back. Now there's nothing else to do but lay it all on the line and try and win her back! He has his work cut out for him, because Delilah won't let him break her twice. Zeke is going to have to conquer the ghosts of his past, to get his HEA.
Their chemistry was off-the-charts HOT. These two loved each other completely and you felt it with every word and every touch. Neither time nor distance, diminished their love. They just have to figure out the details to make being together, forever!
This story had some of the best and swooniest lines ever! I thoroughly enjoyed Zeke and Delilah and fell in love with both of them. A well-written love story about finding your other half, losing everything and then rebuilding that relationship. Forever love is worth EVERYTHING.
To be honest I really did love this story but at the same time I was so frustrated beyond frustrated with Zeke ! Omg there is so many times I just wanted to grab that guy and just start shaking him or like hitting him up the side of the head to say stop it... so with that being said I love the story I liked how I got to go back and revisit some old characters that made me laugh which made me laugh even more this time round and I really love this story because it wise a second chance not even a second chance it was lost miss guided love.... I have never been so frustrated reading a story before like I was with Delilah and Zee... I swear in some situations it was two steps forward one step back sometimes it was a giant leap back where I was just sitting there growling at the book getting frustrated and upset... lol The character sometimes do that to me... but then there’s other times I was laughing pretty hard that I had to put the book down and every time I thought of that one part I would start giggling and laughing again.... Delilah and Zeke when they weren’t struggling with each other and making things awkward the love and passion between them were off the charts to heat up the Pages like those two did wow oh wow... For me this was an awesome read I was laughing and frustrated and mad and swollen and almost jealous about their heat and passion!!! This is definitely a roller coaster read
I'm feeling really stressed by uni and this book just made my day. It was such a great second chance story.
Usually I would be like girl don't even think of taking him back but with these two characters, they were meant to be. You can so tell! I got really invested in their love story. Melted my right cynical heart!
The way Zeke has a nickname for Delilah! Damn that was proper cute. And especially when you find out why and how he picked it.
Seriously would recommend if you want something cute and a HEA done right, to make your day!
There is something about heroes who believe they don't deserve the heroine that gets me every time. And in this story, with Zeke leaving to build a life for himself and his "Trip", aka Delilah, but failing and having to confront himself with the reality and he wasn't able to give them the life he'd wanted for her, was truly heartwrenching.
I really loved his character and hurt for him because so many times it was clear through his actions and words that he didn't think he was worthy of Delilah, his childhood friend turned first and forever love. I really liked their interactions and I stood right with Delilah in giving him the cold shoulder at first because the boy disappeared for 5 years. But I was also with her when she caved in, because she deserves every ounce of happiness she can get and nothing makes her happier than Zeke.
More than everything else, though, I loved how resoluted Zeke was in earning her trust and love back. Reading this book, I also got reaaaally curious about Shane and Abby, which I hope will be next ;) That girl deserves her happy ending!
2.5 stars. I know I’m in the minority here. I don’t know why this series doesn’t resonate with me, but it doesn’t unfortunately. I didn’t enjoy GENT, and I tried MISS anyway and didn’t enjoy it. It’s almost like you’re told things about the characters and you don’t ever see it or feel it. I’m told Zeke had a rough life. I’m told he loves Delilah. There’s almost “told” conflicts but no resolutions. There’s told relationships but no feelings.
I’m absolutely positive I’m in the minority and this just isn’t for me, so please give it a shot!
This is the second standalone book in the #bittersweetheat series, following the events after Gent. Reading Gent first isn't required, but definitely recommended.
Miss follows Delilah- the owner of Jitters coffeehouse in the small town of Garden Grove. This is where Delilah has grown up,and where she calls home. But what happens when her past finds her in the form of piercing blue eyes that she hasn't seen in years? With all the memories, broken promises, and false hope, lying between them will their be second chances or will the hurt, anger, and regret be too much for them to bare?
Zeke has been out of Garden Grove for five years. But when a job has landed him back in the town he grew up in, he has to see Delilah again. Her memory has refused to fade away, plaguing his mind every day. But she is better offeithout him in her life. She has went off to college, been successful and own her own business. What could Zeke offer her, besides the reminder of their past?
This was such a fun, sweet second-chance romance. We get a look into Delilah's life, her job at Jitters, and why her love life seemed to have been going through a dry spell. Will Delilah finally get the answers she had been looking for when it comes to Zeke? Or will his presence in town be too much for Delilah?
I loved Delilah's character. She was strong, sassy, honest, and independent. She stands up for what she believes in, and does what is right by her.
And I loved Zeke, he was funny, romantic, dirty, and strong- both physically and mentally. He has been through so much in his past, and yet still fights each day. When it comes to Delilah, he just wants to do right by her, and protect her even if it's from himself.
Delilah and Zeke's story was such a great read. 4.5 ⭐ out of 5⭐.
Miss is such a fun and exciting read! It has everything you want in a book. The angst, the heartbreak, the second chance and the love. Zeke and Delilah are a very powerful couple. They met as children, loved as teenagers and hurt as adults. The pain in Zekes life is so raw. Coming home was something her never wanted. Wanting Delilah has always been his goal. When he barrels back into Garden Grove all those old feeling come right to the surface. Zeke and Delilahs path is a great one. Harloe Rae has made this book un-put-downable. It truly is an amazing read.
I was so excited to read the story of Zeke and Delilah! And Harloe did not disappoint! She created an epic tale of love and wanting. Your heart aches as you read and you can't but get excited and continue on their crazy journey with them! I couldn't put the book down and loved every minute rooting for Z and wishing Delilah would just fall back in love with him already!
I absolutely love Harloe Rae. She has such a way with her writing that she sucks you into her stories and doesn't allow you to come up for air until the final pages.
Miss is a fantastic second-chance romantic story. And Zeke, (fans myself), is such a hottie. He's one of my favorite characters that Rae has created. The beginning was so heartbreaking for me with Zeke leaving Delilah. Then, when Zeke finds out his job is taking him back to Garden Grove, I got all kinds of excited because if there are two people that truly deserve to be together, it's these two. But going back isn't easy for Zeke, and Delilah has her own fair share of issues to deal with too.
There's one thing I've learned about Rae, she's loyal to her characters and she develops them so well. She has you feeling like they're people you know, people you can feel and experience life with. Miss is full of angst, love and forgiveness and it's one that you definitely should read. Even if you've not read Gent, the first story in the series, you'll be clicking it afterwards because of all the love you're going to get for this little town.
A must read! I couldn't put it down. Harloe this was a great story of a second chance love story. I loved delilah and Zeke. They have a love that miles or time can't suppress. There's a great sense of humor and some smexy love scenes and a whole Lotta love. Zeke had a rough life and had to leave but promised he'd be back for her (Delilah). Delilah held on to hope until years passed and Zeke never came back or called. Why would he not come back or call her? Zeke returns and Delilah doesn't believe it till he walks into her shop. Can Zeke mend what was broken? Will Delilah give him a second chance? ***ARC provided in return for honest review, read for Sweet & Spicy Reads***
Zeke left town years ago to try and make something of himself so he could come back for Delilah. Only one problem, he never made it back until now. Is he to late? What Zeke didn’t realize is he crushed Delilah’s heart and she hasn’t recovered. Can she put their past behind them and move forward or are they doomed from the beginning?
I enjoyed watching Zeke and Delilah’s story unfold. The chemistry between the two is there from the beginning. Miss is a great read!
Miss was such a great read! I loved it alot. It was angsty and emotional at times but a beautiful second chance romance. I loved Delilah, she was sweet and sassy. She is probably my favorite heroine by Harloe. Zeke was so frustrating and I wanted to punch him but I did love him. The love and connection Zeke and Delilah had was passionate and beautiful. They are perfect together. I loved loved Delilah and Raven's friendship. They were hilarious and awesome. Definitely recommend this book!
Omg I loved this book. Zeke and Deliah love each other hard but Zeke doesn't feel worthy of Deliah so his forced to leave due to his home life but he promises to make a start for him and trip and come make for her, but that didn't go as plan, now work has brought him back and he isn't letting his trip go this time, cause his better with her not without.
Harloe Rae has created such a fantastic small town world with Gard Grove. I love the cast of characters and the dynamics of this place. I just want to pack up and move there.
Zeke and Delilah are second chance romance fun. Witnessing them make their way back to each other is sexy and fun.
I can’t wait for even more from Garden Grove. Each book just shapes up to be better and better
Always love picking up one off Harloe Rae's books, because she never disappoints! Second chance romance is a favorite trope of mine! Delilah & Zeke's second chance was just that, they were meant to be together and they were sizzling! I have totally been Zeed! And l will Miss this story! Looking forward to Lass Addison & Shane's story!
Miss is super sweet, second-chance romance. Zeke is...oh man, do I love a tortured man, and he fits the bill. But more than that, I LOVE the way he loves Delilah. His determination to win her back at any cost is #goals. We all WISH we could have a man like Zeke coming to take us back.
I was so looking forward to this second book in the #BitterSweetHeat series because I love, love, loved GENT, and while it pains me to have to say this, I am sorry to say that MISS was, well, a miss for me.
And frankly, while I respect and appreciate ALL reviews and will preface this one by saying that I am clearly in the minority here and do think readers should come to their own conclusions regarding the merits of this book, I am kind of baffled by all the high ratings for a story that just missed the mark for me on so many levels. And the only reason I am giving this book a 3 overall rating is based on the flawless writing, the sizzling hot sensuality, and the warmth, wit and charm of the vibrant Garden Grove townsfolk!
Don’t get me wrong…I adore small town second chance romances, and based on the fantastically crafted blurb, this one had all the trappings of a heartwarming, emotionally riveting story. But sadly I never got swept up in this tale, connected with the hero, or got the swoony butterflies or heartachy feels that I was anticipating going in.
The novel actually got off to a really STELLER start after that amazing, angst-ridden prologue but the subsequent chapters in the first half were SUPER SLOW, and chock full of so much filler banter with the side characters that led me to skimming! And when Zee and Delilah finally come face to face in chapter 5 (at 25 percent), their highly anticipated reunion fell flat and it was pretty much downhill from there I am sad to report.
Aside from their COMBUSTIBLE physical attraction, which was strong, I felt very little emotional spark between Delilah and Zeke and one of the main problems I had with the execution of this second chance romance is that we were TOLD that they had this epic, soul deep love but there was nothing TANGIBLE to back that up. Perhaps if the author had included some poignant flashbacks SHOWING them together, falling in love and experiencing emotional ups and downs as a couple, it would have given their love a stronger foundation and their subsequent reunion more rooting value. And the same goes for Zeke’s abusive upbringing with his father. There was nothing substantial to back that up either
And the most FRUSTRATING part for me was Zeke’s woe is me, self defeatist attitude. There is a fine line between a broody bad boy and a whiny complainer, and unfortunately he filled the latter criteria in my opinion. I was expecting a hot, sexy, filthy talking alpha who was determine to win his girl back AT ALL COSTS, but the only one doing the chasing was Delilah! And this grumpy hero pretty much spent the majority of the book sulking about how he was a “worthless loser.” For me that was a huge turnoff and really diminished his macho sex appeal.
As for Delilah, overall I loved her sweetness, sass and headstrong spirit, and really respected the heck out of her for making Zeke work to reclaim her heart! But, unfortunately, her steely resolve did not last long. And when he shattered her heart yet again in the last third (which I am still trying to wrap my head around as to WHY) instead of making him grovel she immediately took him back. Which really felt anticlimactic and truthfully made her seem like a bit of a doormat in my opinion.
And speaking of the climax, I felt it lacked dramatic urgency and pizzazz. I did not understand what prompted Zeke's 180 in regard to reuniting with Delilah after he was so dead set on letting her go prior to that point. It was almost as if the author decided to just end the book without really putting much foresight into penning an exciting, emotionally electrifying denouement that readers could really sink their teeth into.
Gah. I REALLY hate to be a total Negative Nelly here so will highlight some of the positives! So what did I enjoy? Well, as stated in the beginning of the review, the writing was engaging, clean and polished and really flowed beautifully. I loved Delilah in the first half of the book, and the erotic interludes were OH SO SCINTILLATING. And for the most part, the interactions with the secondary characters were fun and lively (especially the ADORABLE, lol scenes between Trey aka our Dirty Mechanic and Raven his feisty, fiery Princess!). And the HEA was really sweet and tugged at my heartstrings!
BOTTOM LINE: Even though overall MISS did not work for me, and I sadly never got ZEED like many other readers did, l I am still a huge admirer of Ms. Harloe’s writing—and love the gossipy, charming town of Garden Grove—so I will definitely be checking out future installments in the #BitterSweetHeat series!
