Tim Stag has it all under control. He's taken charge of his family ever since his mother's death, raising his brothers while finishing college and law school early. Now he runs an empire, and nothing will stand in his way as he looks to expand Stag Law.
Until Alice Peterson comes along.
The new corporate chef is supposed to give his company an edge, but Alice Peterson is anything but corporate. Wild and spicy as her food, Alice sweeps into Stag Law and drives Tim to distraction. He's not used to distraction.
Sweet Distraction is a short, stand-alone, contemporary romance with an HEA and steamy love scenes. This is book one of a series, so stay tuned to read about the other Stag Brothers and the women they weren't expecting to love.
Boring and lackluster. Hero and heroine are childish and immature. Some parts of how he runs his firm literally do not make sense. Also way too insta and cheesy dialogue. Was hoping to find a new author to read but this was a disappointment sadly.
Safety: safe (up to where I read)
Not sure about the heroines past details, but hero is not a virgin and doesn't really seem like a manh*e necessarily
(audiobook + ebook) Another book I wasn’t prepared for. Because of the cover, I assumed it would be another story about a billionaire asshole who somehow manages to seduce the girl. It was anything but that.
Stag is more or less the perfect (book) boyfriend–reliable, passionate, sexy, smart. His only major flaw: he lives for his job. Until Alice comes to work as a chef at his law firm. Though they share the loss of a mother, they couldn’t have had a more different up-bringing. Cocooned by a very close family, Alice is more carefree than Tim, who had to become a father for his brothers at an early age.
You’ll find the usual cliché of insta-lust–Alice and Tim want to jump each other’s bones by page 5–followed by the expected denial. But it’s quickly resolved. The best part of the book begins when they accept they could be an item. Their relationship changes them slowly.
The writing isn’t exactly good, and some sentences are cringe-worthy. But I really enjoyed the characters and their story. Also, the narrator did an excellent job. The sexy parts are sexy, the emotions are all there, and he did well with the female voices. Maybe if I had read the book instead of listening to it, I wouldn’t have been as enthusiastic. We’ll never know.
Not a perfect book. Certainly room for improvement. But really enjoyable.
Quickie
Series: Stag brothers #1 (but it can be read as a standalone)
Insta love story with jumping up pace , too surreal how lucky the h with new job , pretty embarrassed with how the H react when first met h Kind of ridiculous when author portrayed how meticulous & strict the H characters, lecturing both his brothers with a mantra for safety sex & act completely selfish with h on first sex encounter and so all with no protection self , the hypocrisy lying pretty thick here
I must admit that every time I read the name Timber ...I would sing the Timber song. lol!! great quick read, many steamy moments. I love a happy ending. I really enjoy the idea of this book ... who wouldn't love a personal chef around, that would be so so awesome!! me, please, would love one. I see this is a series and I can't wait for more of these characters!! well written. ( ;
I so loved getting to know the characters Tim and Alice, I so can't wait to read more of this series (Stag Brothers) and this Author (Lainey Davis). 5 Star from me.
This is book 1 in Lainey Davis’ Stag Brothers series. While each book is about a different brother, they’re best enjoyed in order. Books 1-3 are now part of a box set (ebook & audio).
While this book is novella length, Davis packs in a great story with romance, a little personal drama, and great family. Tim is head of Stag Law Firm and likes his world “just so”. Alice is their new executive chef. The chaos caused by his mother’s death when he was young has made Tim desire order and predictability in life. Alice also lost her mother, and while it added responsibility in her life - her family pulled together and all help each other. While they have a lot in common there’s also a bit of opposites attract to add to the workplace romance trope.
Tim & Alice are a lot of sexy fun and growing relationship. A huge surprise causes Tim to cling to controlling as a solution while Alice balks. I love how the Stag brothers all come together to support Tim mirroring Alice’s family’s response. Davis wraps things up nicely and I enjoyed their HEA.
I can’t wait for Ty & Juniper’s book, Filled Potential.
Narration: I enjoy Nikola Muckajev’s narrations. He’s great at a variety of voices and emotions. I like the way he delivers the chapters from Alice’s perspective from a slightly higher register than those from Tim’s. It really helps with the alternating POV’s. Great fit for Davis’ writing.
CW (spoilers): surprise pregnancy (while on birth control)
Tim (Timber) and Alice are both likable but they're both just kind of plain. The only excitement in the story is when Alice faints.
I was confused about his law firm. It takes up two floors of a high rise and has enough employees he can hire a full time chef who makes "hundreds" of muffins for breakfast the next day but he doesn't have any attorneys working for him that can handle a big client other than him and Juniper, a new attorney to his firm that seems to just now be handling sports law. What were the other attorneys doing since that seemed to be the focus of his firm?
And this is yet another book where the girl gets pregnant while on oral birth control. After she finds out she's pregnant, they work out that she missed a day. When you take birth control pills, you know you missed a day when you go to take one the next day. It's been less than a decade since I quit taking them and I know they keep lowering doses but I can't count how many times I missed a pill and took it the next day. Maybe it has changed but taking 1 pill late wasn't a concern if you took it by the time you were taking the next one. Missing 2 meant using condoms till the next pack. My husband and I got pregnant so very easily and if it was that easy to get pregnant from taking a pill late, we would have had a baker's dozen. When authors go this route, they need to at least have them take a medicine that interferes aside from antibiotics because everyone has finally learned those interfere.
I also don't like how Alice reacted to how Tim reacted. He was happy, well he didn't really show emotion but that's another problem with the book. He didn't do the crappy things men do sometimes in life or books such as accuse her of trapping him, being angry, or running away from the situation. She got mad at him because he instantly went into overlapping mode and decided how a lot of things would go. While I wouldn't have agreed with him, she didn't even try to back him up and explain they ended to make decisions together. She just kicked him out of her house.
Speaking of her house, she and at least one of her brothers lives at home still. She just has finished school, so that one I get but I'm not sure that her married sister, her husband, and their kids don't live there, too, and possibly her other brother. And their father.
This book was very dry. The sex scenes were extremely bland. The most enjoyment I got out of this was reading what Alice did to make her job her own. There really could have been a lot more about that. Her father's company did the remodel for a larger eating area and bigger kitchen. Tim could have gotten to know him a little while he was there to work. More details could have been given.
From the time they started something until they found out she was pregnant, they didn't talk through the week but only on the weekends. I understand him not needing the distraction but they didn't have a single phone call between them that wasn't about work and then only one of those. There were no sweet or sexy texts. It was just cold. There wasn't anything romantic about it.
I had really hoped to have found a new author but I will not be reading more by this author.
Timber "Tim" Stag has always taken care of his family. He's always in control, and his drive to be the best made him the successful lawyer he is today. Very little is beyond Tim's control until he hires personal chef Alice Peterson.
Alice lands the perfect job straight out of school, working for Stag Law, but she can't deny the attraction she feels towards Tim Stag her boss. There are stolen moments of passion, and hidden desires, there's jealousy, and of course steamy encounters. Until Alice falls ill at work and suddenly the perspective of their lives changes and Tim and Alice have to make decisions about where they're going with their relationship and can they compromise and be there for each other through thick and thin.
I liked this story, sweet, family orientated with a HEA.
What an fantastic audiobook. I couldn't stop to listen. Seriously it was that good. Although it was a book on the shorter side I absolutely adored the story and the narrator's performance was amazing. I could listen to his voice all das long.
The book was fabulously written with sadness, hope and steaming hot scenes added just at the right moment.
Tim(ber) and Alice HEA. Tropes: Secret workplace romance, boss romance, shared childhood, insta lust Liked: Cute, quick, and (very) mildly spicy. Disliked: With a name like Timber, why would I ever call you Tim? And for goodness’s sake could have absolutely done without the final chapter birthing scene.
I'm not a fan of instalust. But, sometimes I can handle it. In this case, the dude is super attracted to her and thinks "I might need to go out and find someone looking for a quick release". 🤢
Seriously!?
I don't appreciate the idea that you can be attracted to one woman but still have sex with someone else to get rid of the sexual tension. That's so gross!
A sexy workaholic meets a sweet chef and passion explodes. Tim is the man used to making sure everyone is safe and healthy. He really never lets go to relax and smell the roses. Until he meets her, Alice. She is sexy, sweet, and cheerful and all he can think of. She calms him making him laugh and smile. But he is so used being the one that takes charge he just might lose her. Their families are funny and amazing that before you know it the book is done. A fun engaging read.
I liked this book was nice grumpy/sunshine trope and you had the whole sleeping with boss trope as well however I found it stereotypical and nothing I haven’t read before
I was nervous to read this book from the other reviews, but I honestly loved this book. It was a fun and simple book that makes you feel good constantly. The ending had me in tears of joy. Probably doesn’t help I also just had a baby.

Tim's gran sends Alice for a chef job interview at Stag Law. Lust at 1st sight for the pair of them but Alice doesnt want to lose the job before shes even got it so doesnt act on her fantasies. Tim gets caught up in his thoughts which are a plenty about Alice. Her thoughts & ideas on the new kitchen dining area at Stag Law are amazing, Tim is mesmerized by her enthusiasm. Putting Alice in charge was the best decision Tim ever had, he feels.
They both admire each other from a far until its Ty's home debut game and all of Stag Law go to support Tim's brother Ty.
Getting caught up in the moment celebrating Ty's opening goal, Tim & Alice duck out from the others to see if "scratching their itch" will get the distracting obsession of each other out the way???
No chance! Makes them want more, They cant seem to get enough but life gets in the way until a drunk Tim confesses to how hes really feeling bout her.
Life & Family happen but Alice has opened Tim's eyes & he realises he cant control everything and everyone.

I guess all in all it is somewhat a good story for it being a first read by this author guess this reader will see with the next book .. but for me it was an ok book .. I would sy give it a chance .. you might like it :)
Tim Stag is the oldest of 3 Brothers and he runs the law firm. He has basically run the family since their mom died and their dad is constantly inebriated. They have their grandmother who also keeps them in line.
Tim was given the idea to get a professional chef at their firm since they really have no time to leave for lunch or even breaks. He was given the name of an up and coming new chef and her name is Alice. When she comes for the interview and tells Tim what her plans are he is immediately taken with her. She is beautiful and smart as well as caring. He just can't stay away from her.
As the new lunchroom is being built Tim is drawn to Alice like he never has to another woman. What starts as major flirting between them quickly turns to something so much more.
I loved this story and the family dynamics is so awesome on both sides. So excited to read more about the Stag Brothers. Enjoy!
Tim Stag is in control of everything at work and home.
Tim had to look after his two younger brothers from an early age, after his mother died and his father turned to drink. Since then, he’s never been able to let go and that’s how he is going through life. His gran talks him into having a chef at work, so he at least eats healthy food, whilst he’s working long hours.
Along comes Alice, a chef out of catering college, who blows him away and changes his life.
Love the characters and the relationship that starts off as a one off sex session!!! This book has everything, romance, laughter, good storyline and lovely family relationships.
The ending was a bit rushed and a bit haphazard and could have been better, but i still enjoyed it.
I am now reading #2 Ty and its already looking good.
