Sondra was a difficult heroine to like in this book and I wanted to see her show some backbone. It was still an interesting story though and near the end I could see more of a connection between Sondra and Nico, which I felt was lacking in the beginning. Overall, definitely more smut than story in this one, but I thought it was still intriguing and I would recommend it.

3.5 hot smutty stars
Kind of Diamonds is a quick hot smutty read. It contains an alpha male, a damsel in distress with a mafia boss and a casino.
No, it’s not a dark read, but it’s a dirty one.
Sondra is house keeper and she shouldn’t be in the mafia’s suite cleaning, but there was an emergency and so she has to clean it.
Nico doesn’t know who this blonde cleaning person is and so he takes matters into his own hands and questions her.
The beginning started out quick and fast and intense. I really liked it. It’s an insta-lust read with a possessive male. Nico is a little too wrapped into Sondra, BUT that’s why we read these books right?
Overall, it was a quick and hot read. I will continue with the series.

Smexy quick mafia read but not dark as blurb indicated. Love the hero/heroine ( bossy, Nico and sweet Sondra) of King of Diamonds! This series I am really enjoying.. will read the rest in the series.

Lots of "point-fives" these days... this was definitely a 2.5 read. Why?
1) The blurb made me assume this was going to be a dark book. Turns out, it wasn't.
2) With the mafia as a plot—see reason above.
3) I wish it was dark; I love dark.
4) Why do all girls, when they find out a guy has omitted information, immediately, and I mean immediately, run. Like, stick around for an explanation first. Don't just bolt; confront them. Be mature about it, like... "oh, he has a fiance and he didn't tell me? Obviously, I can't ask him about it—harhar—gotta call my best friend so I can bolt. And don't even listen when he chases after me 'cause what I heard was obviously the truth, and there is no way he could tell me anything different." Fucking unbelievable... women these days. (I mean, I do know people like her exist and do do what I explained, but when reading a book you want to actually like your lead character.)
5) Why did Nico like her so much? Like, instant-love? Seriously? Nah fam. Nada. I found nothing with Sondra. (Except when I read the name I think of that character on Baby Daddy rofl.)

Not Bad
This was my first book by Renee Rose and I enjoyed it for the most part. The opening scene didn’t bother me. It’s a mafia story and I expect the men to be a little crazy and hard. I also didn’t mind Nico being a manwhore even though I hate that but it usually comes with the package of a mafia story. What bothered me is that he said he sometimes paid for sex. That always grossed me out. I’m never on board with that. Otherwise I liked Both Nico and Sondra. I liked Nico’s desperation for her, his extreme need. He literally would do anything for her, give her anything as long as she was happy. I also liked her cousin Corey, I hope her story is a good one.

Safe. Minor om/ow drama. h’s cousins boyfriend tries to force her to be with him but it is stopped quickly. He only grabbed her arms before they were interrupted. There is anal sex. There is also minor violence. No women were hurt.

È più che altro un erotic romance, molto scontato banale e prevedibile, ma con belle scene erotiche e molto scorrevole. Però mi ha fatto morire dal ridere davanti ai termini che il mafioso siciliano, proprietario di dell'albergo casinò di Las Vegas dice: minchia, picciridda, bedda mia, sangu mio, maronn e frate (fratello) ma si può?😂😂😂 se volete un libro zozzetto e farvi due risate, leggetelo🤣🤣🤣

While I'm not necessarily a fan of mafia romance, I am a fan of Renee Rose. That said I enjoyed this book. Maybe because while Nico is not exactly clean because of his family, he is trying to be legit. And his feelings for Sondra have him wanting to be even more distant from his criminal roots. Either way this was a great read that has me looking forward to more in the series.

Nico’s alphaness is hot
Oh Nico- the sexy, thick chemistry between you and Sondra was 🔥!!
The way that Nico and Sondra meet is unconventional. She goes into his Vegas suite to clean it (she’s coming from Reno, has a graduate degree but is struggling so she can only clean rooms in the meantime while she waits to see what her future holds- if she can get a job teaching or maybe deal cards like her cousin that works at the same hotel). Because she has a very nice body and is attractive, he immediately has his guard up and assumes she’s some kind of spy or is working for someone and is trying to deceive him. Nico suffers from insomnia- so he freaks out and gets paranoid easily (plus, his family deals with illegal things, so it’s not like he can easily trust people). She really is only there to clean, but he doesn’t believe her. So what does he do? He strip searches her!!! I have to say- I thought it was pretty hot (until he takes out his gun- but I still admired his alpha behavior). He realizes his mistake after she breaks down from the fear she’s feeling.
He warns her about himself and somewhat apologizes for what she went through with him (and pays her for her traumatizing experience). She decides she needs the job so she isn’t going to quit and Nico uses this to his advantage. He personally requests that she cleans the suites (his and two others). When she goes to clean his room, she encounters him and, oh man, is it explosive! I’m surprised my kindle didn’t melt 🔥😅🥵🤤. Their connection is visceral, raw, hot, and organic. They just can’t help themselves- and I was here for it all.
A couple of things- they both have a past. He’s been engaged to another Italian mafia’s daughter- a mafia princess- for like twenty years now (since she was a baby and he was a kid). Sondra does not trust quickly anymore since her boyfriends keep cheating on her (she left Reno after she found her boyfriend with another woman). So, fidelity is a must for her. There are things they each need to know about each other, especially concerning his engagement and expectations in life.
I adored them! Honestly, because their connection was so intense, they’re really meant to be. I can’t wait to keep reading more from this series! I have now added Renee Ross as one of my favorite authors 🥰.

King of Diamonds was my first book by Renee Rose but definitely not my last. Although it's a mafia book I would say it's mafia light, there is nothing dark about it. That is probably also due to the fact that Nico is running the legitimate part of the family. If I had one complaint it's that I wish there was more meat to the story. Since it's my first book from this author I'm not sure if her books are basically a simple story with lots of sexy times. Guess I will find out next time.

This is a lighter mafia story with a main focus on the sex scenes but hey they were pretty hot and I wasn’t expecting much from the read but to be entertained and I mostly was. I wish there was more character development and more to the story so 3.5 Stars.

King of Diamonds il primo libro della serie Vegas Underground di genere mafia romance. Solo per questo non ho potuto non leggerlo. Ormai sapete tutte quanto apprezzo il genere e questa trama mi ha incuriosita sin da subito come anche la copertina intrigante e carica di aspettative. L'autrice ci fa conoscere Sondra, una ragazza profondamente delusa dall'amore che dopo l'ennesimo buco nell'acqua ha deciso di cambiare vita per un po'. Sondra ha un carattere che non sono riuscita ad inquadrare subito a causa delle sue scelte, è vivace ed intelligente, una ragazza pulita, amabile e piena di voglia di vivere ed innamorarsi ancora. I suoi pensieri sono descritti molto bene. Il suo lavoro la porterà a conoscere una famiglia mafiosa, pericolosa e imprevedibile. Nico è un mafioso, possiede un casinò a Las Vegas che usa per i suoi traffici. Ha un carattere cinico, forte e deciso, tutto ciò che vuole lo ottiene, senza troppi sforzi. Sondra ci appare molto arrendevole e nonostante il suo carattere battagliero è estremamente morbida nei confronti di Nico. Sin da subito l'attrazione tra i due è forte ed evidente e in men che non si dica tra i due scatta l'approccio fisico. L'autrice però non ha dato molto spazio alla loro conoscenza, ai disguidi e all'attrazione che sentono i personaggi, piuttosto che assecondare subito gli istinti fisici. Nonostante questo, il libro è un susseguirsi di vicende che porteranno i due protagonisti a conoscersi meglio l'un l'altro e a iniziare a fidarsi, nonostante i loro trascorsi. I personaggi secondari hanno un ruolo importante nella narrazione e tutti sono delineati molto bene. Sondra e Nico sono due personaggi completamente opposti, sia caratterialmente che nel condurre le loro vite. Il loro rapporto inizia con un tocco fisico e finisce nell'amore più vero. Questo è un sentimento profondo, che l'autrice descrive molto bene. Nico all'inizio prova un'attrazione fatale per Sondra. Man mano che ci addentriamo nel libro emerge il vero carattere di Nico: un uomo che farebbe qualsiasi cosa per la donna che ama, un uomo piacevole e possessivo. Nico e Sondra sono una coppia feroce: si amano fino a consumarsi, cercano di stare insieme nonostante le loro differenze e lottano per ciò che vogliono. Dovranno affrontare innumerevoli ostacoli per poter stare insieme: la famiglia, le tradizioni e gli affari. Le scene erotiche sono esplosive e tutte descritte chiaramente. "King of Diamonds" è un libro piacevole che consiglio a tutte le amanti del genere. La scrittura è scorrevole e veloce, le descrizioni aiutano il lettore ad immedesimarsi nella narrazione e il finale è adatto a tutte le romantiche come me!

Sin da subito l'attrazione tra i due è forte ed evidente e in men che non si dica tra i due scatta l'approccio fisico. L'autrice però non ha dato molto spazio alla loro conoscenza, ai disguidi e all'attrazione che sentono i personaggi, piuttosto che assecondare subito gli istinti fisici. Nonostante questo, il libro è un susseguirsi di vicende che porteranno i due protagonisti a conoscersi meglio l'un l'altro e a iniziare a fidarsi, nonostante i loro trascorsi. I personaggi secondari hanno un ruolo importante nella narrazione e tutti sono delineati molto bene. Sondra e Nico sono due personaggi completamente opposti, sia caratterialmente che nel condurre le loro vite. Il loro rapporto inizia con un tocco fisico e finisce nell'amore più vero. Questo è un sentimento profondo, che l'autrice descrive molto bene. Nico all'inizio prova un'attrazione fatale per Sondra. Man mano che ci addentriamo nel libro emerge il vero carattere di Nico: un uomo che farebbe qualsiasi cosa per la donna che ama, un uomo piacevole e possessivo. Nico e Sondra sono una coppia feroce: si amano fino a consumarsi, cercano di stare insieme nonostante le loro differenze e lottano per ciò che vogliono. Dovranno affrontare innumerevoli ostacoli per poter stare insieme: la famiglia, le tradizioni e gli affari. Le scene erotiche sono esplosive e tutte descritte chiaramente. "King of Diamonds" è un libro piacevole che consiglio a tutte le amanti del genere. La scrittura è scorrevole e veloce, le descrizioni aiutano il lettore ad immedesimarsi nella narrazione e il finale è adatto a tutte le romantiche come me!

This is the first book in the Vegas Underground series by Renee Rose. I absolutely loved this book and Nico Tacone has become my new favorite mafioso. Sondra left her cheating boyfriend in Reno and took their car to Vegas to live with her cousin Corey. She has a master’s degree in Art History and is hoping to find a teaching position but for now she’s working as a maid at the Bellissimo Hotel and Casino. Nico Tacone left his family in Chicago to start his own business in Vegas because he likes to be in control. He has insomnia and hasn’t slept in 48 hours when he finds a gorgeous maid in his suite. He’s never seen her before and thinks one of his enemies sent her because she’s way too beautiful to be a maid. Nico tries to warn Sondra to stay away from him because he’s trouble but she can’t seem to stay away.

I really really loved the climax❤️ For a while I thought the ending would be some crappy happily ever after but the 'test' part was so intriguing.
I love Nico💞 The way he has been holding himself the whole while and then opening up to a complete stranger is so daring.
That's one hell of a couple I have read about. Highly recommended.

Loving it
Smart girl with bad taste in men runs into mob boss with insomnia. This is a fast paced story with wonderful characters who have great sex. Although it contains some violence and a Mafia family, this isn’t a dark read.
Actually, when Nico isn’t sleep deprived, he can be considered and remorseful:
“Baby, I’m just sorry I lost my temper with you. And I’m sorry about that spanking—at least the first one. It wasn’t for you, it was for me, and that’s not cool.” She studies me, her eyes intelligent. I swear she sees right into my soul and doesn’t judge. I don’t know how that’s possible. “I liked it.” I smile as my chest constricts. “I know you did. And I keep telling myself that makes it okay. But I’m not sure it does.”
Now, that’s (almost) sweet 😃.
A recommendation for readers who like steamy, fast paced and don’t mind a few blood spatters.

Sondra (art degree) is working as a maid in a Vegas casino. She’s left her cheating boyfriend and is crashing on her cousins couch while trying to save some money for her own place. She ends up cleaning the off-limits penthouse belonging to owner Nico Tacone (Italian mafia). Nico is battling insomnia and he’s off his game when he finds this hot thing cleaning his penthouse. So of course he assumes she’s been sent to wire his place. He strips her naked and points a gun to her head demanding to know who she is. Duh – this turns her on, while also scaring the piss out of her. If a hot mafia guy named Nico did that to me, I’d probably like it too! 😋
This turns into full blown lust and some hot sex. Unfortunately, Nico is engaged to someone else (even though he’s never met the girl). When Sondra finds out, she’s pretty pissed about it. There’s some drama around Nico getting out of his engagement. Then HFN ending.
There is plenty of hot sex. Lots of spanking. I originally gave his a 5 but I lowered it to a 4. I do love the book and series, but it wasn’t as violent as I would have liked it to be. Their breakup and reconciliation was too easy. Then the price he had to pay for breaking the arranged engagement was too weak. I just wish there was something more to push it a little darker. Plus, they used condoms the entire time. Blah.
Despite those issues, it’s still one of my fave mafia fics.

A pretty good book especially since it's the first in the series. Nico is a made man. Probably won't ever have to take over the family because he is the fourth son. He is different than his brothers and especially his Dad who is in prison. He owns and operates his own casino in Vegas. If course his family put the money in to start the casino and they have a little say in it. He has worn himself out.

Nico and Sondra's story
So I kinda went backwards first. I read Jack of Spades first which is book 2, then read this. These are both standalone romance but because the characters cross over by reading book 2 I already knew the outcome of book 1. Therefore even though these are standalones, I recommend reading in order. There public service announcement over 😁
Nico and Sondras story was just as awesome as Corey and Stephano's with a twist Sondra and Corey are cousins. Sondra is your typical girl next door, blonde, blue eyed with a loving family who falls in love with Nico owner of the Bellissimo casino and brother to stephano. Whew that's a little confusing!! Anyway as in book 2, I still say this is an R version of Ocean's Eleven. So if you enjoy, sexy times (Nico can spank me anytime), Italian mafia, family drama, alpha bad boys who speak endearments in Italian to you, then you'll love these bad boys of the Bellissimo Italian mafia and the women they'd kill or be killed for.

Mafia with kinky sex, you can’t go wrong! Good read that you just read till it’s done.
The story was interesting and Nico definitely was a mobster at heart, even though he didn’t want to be. I loved his insight in the story and it was interesting to see he had vulnerability about how his family appeared to Sondra. The only thing was I didn’t get any “dark” vibe from the story, I mean just because he liked to spank her didn’t mean it was dark.
