I am eating up these crossovers from these two. Both HJ Bellus and Kathy Coopman’s are outstanding on their own, but together these two are phenomenal. Add in the blending of worlds from each of their own series makes these books not just something totally unique but also flat out incredible. I thought I was blown away with the first one, but Toxic seriously knocked me on my rear. Something both of these ladies know how to do well is hit you with a solid blow right in the feels. The amount of emotion that was pulled from me while reading Alex and Maria’s story is insane. From pure joy to full on ugly cry, my heart was lost to the beauty of their story right from the start. Alex is a man who despite his current state you know is good. The heartbreaking trauma he endured with the sacrifice he made haunts him in a way that made me hurt for him. With his life in a downward spiral Maria was like a beacon of light in the darkness. Even at his worst she saw through to the man he truly is. I loved that even seeing that she still gave him no slack. The sass and strength were mighty within the little dynamo that is Maria. Even with all the emotional heavy the romance that builds between these two is still full of heat and a good bit a swoon too. Mixing together that angst and sweet in a way that keeps you absolutely hooked the entire time.
When two of my fav authors-HJ Bellus and Kathy Coopmans collaborate and write a book together...they write one Hell of a book that isn't just HAWT as shit, but full of alpha-ness, a bad ass heroin and not just a romance read, but full blown action and adventure as well, which made for one awesome read!!!
Alex is a tall, good-looking and a total arrogant asshole!! My fav to read about in my books..lol
Maria is helping out at her parents Bed and Breakfast while they are on vacation. Of course while she is there helping out, this is where she comes face to face with the arrogant asshole-Alex!! He is a drunken mess coming in every night, all hours of the night and bringing all kinds of women back with him. Drinking and effing his sorrows away. Maria can tell that he has some demons he has been fighting but he keeps showing his ass and she feels it is just best to stay far away from him.
Then their paths cross again. Alex wants to try to be a better person for her, but he knows he is sooo not worthy of her. He is worried those demons from his past will come back to haunt him and then it may bring them both down!!!
I gave Toxic 5 iScream Cones!!! I did not want this read to end. lol I found myself stalling the last several chapters of the book so I could savor it!! lol
PS...I am dying to know who wrote what cuz, really Tricia, you would think when you are fans of both authors and you read sooo much of their books, I should know who wrote what. But I fail at this guessing game each time..haha Thanks for another amazing book Heidi and Kathy!!!
I've said it before and I will say it again. These authors kill it! This dynamic duo will have you on the edge of your seat and in some ways- sanity! I am a fan of each individually. And when they get together, I can't stop squealing.
Toxic is a story I was desperate to read. If you've read Full Contact, you know where I'm coming from. My favorite Diamond is a mess. As a fan from the Syndicate days, it's hard to see a man I have loved turn into this utter mess. It's hard to see him and not want to fix him. Unfortunately, Alex's demons are his own. Instead of fighting them, he is letting them win.
Enter Maria. At perhaps the absolute worst time in his life, Alex meets the sassy siren. It isn't meant to be because, let's face it, any self respecting woman doesn't find falling down drunk attractive.
But this story doesn't end there (duh, it'd only be 5 pages...give or take)! No things have a way of happening when you least expect them.
With a pull that seems to be as deep as the marrow in their bones, Alex and Maria can't seem to step away from each other. The chemistry is scorching. The dilemma is stomach twisting. The need is soul deep.
There's no way to avoid the Toxic if you have forever in your sights.
Sigh...swoony, ridiculously giddy sigh!
I am a huge Alex supporter. I was destroyed watching him fall apart. It hurt to know how badly his actions affected him. Knowing it was needed but still hurting, sums up Alex's entire existence...outside of the bottle. Seeing his story play out is a balm to an aching heart! Don't be fooled though, this is no fairytale!
Alex and Maria story is a must read. It was so much going on but in a way that had you craving the next page and so on and so on. Demons can eat you alive, regardless of how hard you try to fight. They're there. Making themselves known but every demon has an angel that battles it and keeps it contained. Nothing ever goes away but a strong fight and determination goes a long way.
This storyline was that, an angel containing a demon. That angel was in form of family, support, love, and self respect. You can't get no better than that.
“The man I used to be would cherish and love the hell out of a woman like her.”
There are some books that you enjoy so much, that you want others to read, but feel like anything you write won’t be good enough for a review – well, this is one them. This is a stand-a-lone, and I haven’t read Book 1 in the series, and I’ve one clicked it as my next read. I’ve also read the books about the previous generation by HJ Bellus, but this is my first one with Kathy Coopmans. Hers are definitely now on my TBR (I’m buried, but what is a few more books....).
Alex’s life is spiralling out of control and he’s sunk to the most basest of levels – booze and f^^king. Having done what any man would do to protect his family, he’s not handling the aftermath of emotions, lying to them and insisting that he’s ok. They know who he is on the inside, and can see the damage he is doing to himself, and this made me love every one of his extended family. They’re all bad-ar$e and strong individuals, even the women, but they care about each other in the most unconditional loving way.
Likewise for Maria, she’s been bought up in a strong and loving family unit, that is not defined by blood, but by bonds of love and loyalty and she’s looking after their B and B so that they can all have a much need vacation away together. This is where she meets Alex, the most disgusting creature she could ever come across. Even though she can see that he is gorgeous, lost and broken, there’s no way in hell that there could ever be an excuse for his total disrespect of her or her family’s B and B.
Their world is more intertwined than they could ever have imagined at the start and when they meet again, Alex has a chance to apologise to this beauty with a singing voice that heals him and makes him want to be the man he used to be. There are layers of plot that I saw laid down at the start, and like an onion, they were peeled back one at a time, exposing chemistry, romance, healing and suspense that made me stay up to the early hours to finish this book.
I was entirely consumed from the start, and even though it’s a standalone, I absolutely HAVE to go back to the respective worlds created by HJ Bellus and Kathy Coopmans and find out the back story. I just have to. Seriously this is a highly recommended read – 5 Stars.
OH! MY! GOSH!!!! I love Alex and Maria. There are truly two saviors in this book, both Maria and Alex. They saved each other. Alex NEVER wanted to go into the family business. The one time he took a step in, it has nearly destroyed him. Yes, he had compelling cause, but, can he live with himself? He as turned to alcohol and women to try and drown out the memories. He in one drink away from destroying his life. Maria meets Alex when she is filling in for her parents at their B & B while they are on vacation. Cleaning up after Alex night after night during his drunken stupor has her furious. However, Maria sees the true man under the alcohol, and sparks fly. But still wishes him good riddance when he leaves. They meet again when Maria moves to Boise, Idaho to finish her schooling and work at her Aunt Peaches bar. Yes, Alex is still drinking, and yes, Maria still sees the good man inside. And the attraction sparks between them, still going off like the Fourth of July fireworks. However, this time, Alex is determined to become the man Maria deserves. He just prays that Maria takes him back when he is finished becoming that man. There are a lot of twists and turns in this phenomenal book, romantically and suspenseful as well. One of my favorite parts is when Maria punches that hoe after…. Stop, sorry ladies no spoilers. Let me just say this, the scene following ….OMG HOT!!!!!!! I have fallen for this writing duo of Kathy Coopmans and HJ Bellus. Separately, they are remarkable authors, each having books that I have absolutely LOVED. Together, they are out of this world. Together, they just bump each other’s writing skill to a phenomenal level. Toxic is a sister book to Full Contact by these two ladies, and it is just as phenomenal! So, what are you waiting for, go hit that purchase button and get your copy of this FANTASTIC book. Thank you for reading my review.
Toxic is a great collaboration between Kathy Coopmans and HJ Bellus. Their writing was seamless and you couldn’t tell where one left off and the other started.
This book was so good from the beginning to the end. Alex won my heart in Full Contact and I was so excited to get his story. Alex fought so hard to stay true to himself and when he failed, he fell into a horrible downward spiral. He was at rock bottom when he first encountered Maria at her family‘s bed and breakfast. He was just awful to deal with. Maria was shocked when he turned up again at her aunt’s bar. As much as she couldn’t stand how he was, she was drawn to him. She was light to his dark. I loved that she didn’t make things easy on him and she was able to see who he was deep down under his pain.
Toxic is a heartfelt love story that is filled with everything I love in a book.....heartbreak, passion, action, suspense, love and a strong family.
Awesome 2nd book in series great as I wasn’t expecting some things that did happen Toxic loved it !!! You think you know what’s gonna happen then and how it goes then na but then yep it does but not what you expect I love how the book could of ended at a certain scene in car with them! But didn’t and i like how shit happens through out book then they make up and could be or thought it was the end but nooo more shit happens ! And story continues happily ever after but not fully what u expect like other books have like no repercussions but this does (I hope I make sense I try not to give it away) loved it not what was expecting but was great !!!
First time reading these authors and wow am I happy I did. Toxic is a wonderful story of love, strength, and determination. Alex was heading down a dark path with no light at the end. Until he stayed at Maria's families bed and breakfast and finds light in her. But has to leave to save her and keep hating himself. But then their paths cross again and Alex can't let it go this time. Maria can't deny the pull and the sadness in Alex's eyes. They have many hurdles to jump, but they do it together and nothing or no one can break them apart.
5 STARS FOR TOXIC!! This book was simply delicious, I read it in one sitting. OMG.....these two authors are the perfect mixture for creating a 5 star story, with sexy as sin heroes and strong beautiful heroines. I loved Alex and Maria, their story is unforgettable with all the sexiness, drama, suspense and love. Do yourself a favor and 1-click this book.
Alex is officially my favorite all time book boyfriend. I loved his personality, his struggles with his demons, his trying to find his way away from the family business. Maria and her strong and determined personality was perfect to offset him and keep him on his toes. The twists were perfect and definitely left me wondering who to trust.
Could not put this book down once it was started and I am empty without it.
This is was an amazing 5 star story that had it all. Heartfelt characters, romance, suspense and family. A story that was easily read during a slow night shift. So intriguing that I didn’t think for one minute about being sleepy.
Alex had to do the unimaginable in order to save his cousins life but months later he’s still reeling from that event. Drowning in alcohol and women. Then comes along Maria, a breath of fresh air. A focus and goal oriented women who doesn’t take crap from Alex. He needs to stay away because he doesn’t think he’s good enough for her. In order to be with her he needs to get better first.
Why do I read so much? It’s a form therapy for me. As a night shift nurse I need books. This story kept me reading and entertained during a slow night. I was addicted from the very first page read. I like that the characters where flawed just like us, so it made me feel so much for them, especially Alex.
A beautifully written story that was heartbreaking at times but also had some great heartwarming ones. It was very suspenseful and intriguing. It had some twists and turns that left me speechless. I enjoyed the storyline that had a plot that just got thicker and thicker. Bottomline is this is a must read.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story to be read. You can also read Full Contact by these 2 authors. That story introduces other characters that are in this story. Rest assured that Toxic can be safely read as a standalone.
I love these crossover books! I have not read the original series. The authors are doing a great job, I don't feel lost or like I am missing something. What I am feeling is curious about the parents stories, I am getting just enough backstory to make me want to read the originals. When I started reading this book I thought it was going to wreck me I was so sad with the circumstances of our hero. I also thought it would be the typical he is fixed by the love of a good woman. I was wrong!! It was more!! The twists and turns made this a book that I couldn't read fast enough but never wanted to reach the end. Alex was broken in the saddest of ways trying to deal and using all the wrong methods. Maria didn't fix him she gave him a reason to find the strength to fix himself! I already enjoy both of these authors separately but together they write a fantastic story.
You will find Alex and Maria slipping under your skin without even realizing it. When you are drowning in the darkness like Alex is, it will take the light that shines from someone as pure as Maria to finally make this man realize that he needs to be the man he once was. As life lays its cards on the table in front of Alex this man will need to pick his Queen of Diamonds and hold her close to his heart to finally play the winning hand. Maria sees past Alex's atrocious behaviour to the darkness that is swallowing him and calls him out on it. It will take this strong woman to bring him to his knees and finally face the darkness head on. Alex maybe toxic but Maria is nothing short of his antidote. A captivating story that is inspirational, romantic and full of angst, drama and chaos. Toxic is a love story like no other and as the world of Royal Love and The Syndicate series intertwine, you will be shown that behind every man there is an even stronger woman to give him the love and support he needs to confront all his demons.
I cannot tell you how excited I was to find out that these two amazing authors have written another crossover novel!! Like legit girly squeals! And then I found out it featured Alex Diamond?! Dead! Since reading the ending of Full Contact he grabbed my attention and my heart and didn't let go. Maria is such a sweet, sassy, strong young woman who doesn't deserve the way he treats her when they first meet, I mean he is a full on melt! But she sees the pain in his eyes that he tries to hide from his family and those around him, she is inexplicably drawn to him and when they are near each other sparks fly. To Alex, Maria is the light to his dark. The sunshine chasing away his demons, but is that enough? This man breaks my heart, truly. By nature he is a fixer, a protector but he feels like he is drowning and he can't see a way out of it..........until Maria. This book!!!!! Honest to goodness, you need to read it! ALL. THE. FEELS. And then some!!
A story that has so many elements to it. I absolutely loved the story of Maria and Alex. Alex, son of a mafia man and Maria the country bumpkin with the voice of an angel. A pairing you wouldn't expect but their chemistry is off the charts. Major twist toward the end of the book will keep you at the edge of your seat. It is always great to have that bit of suspense even in a great romance book. Every thing about this book is great. Bellus and Coopmans make a perfect cowriting pair again in this book. Loved it, a must read!
Toxic by HJ Bellus and Kathy Coopmans is a full length, standalone romance novel, told in a dual POV. Maria Richards is a 20 year old college student. She works at the family´s B&B and has a loving family. The only thorn in her side is a more than rude guest, Alex Diamond. Alex is member of a mob family. But PTSD let him drift into a abyss. He´s about to becme a alcoholic. He drinks to drown his demons, to no avail. He´s rude and crude and treatens the people around him like dirt. But Maria sees something in him and she doesn´t give up on him. But he´s toxic. Toxic is like a fright train, it steam rolls you and you can only hold on and pray to come out unscated on the other side. The writing is great and I loved the story and the characters. I give 4,5 darkish stars.
I absolutely love these two authors together. This book is amazing right from the beginning. I love the story line and the chemistry. Twists turns suspense love. Everything you could ask for in a great book. Very well written. Maria is an amazing character. So strong and lovable. I absolutely love how she stands up for what she wants. Alex is yummy and lovable. He does go through a few things but comes out stronger with Maria by his side. Highly recommend this very enjoyable book.
Alex loves shower his woman with compliments, “you look good underneath me, baby. Bet you’ll look perfect on top." Alex is all for making his lady's fantasies come to lught just on his terms, “possibly. Might have to borrow the family jet for that one. Nobody touches or sees what’s mine.” I loved this book, like Alex was such a hard*** to everyone but when it came to Maria the man was putty in her hands. Maria didn't take his crap either she gave it right back to him.
I always think that a good collaboration is when the reader has no idea who has written what part which is the case with this book.
Alex and Maria are two strong stubborn characters who butt heads from the moment they meet. After a brutal encounter Alex is drowning, coming to terms with his actions is pushing him to drink and women. Maria is like a boomerang he can't get rid of her or stop thinking about her.
I enjoyed this story and the characters, it's emotional and fun with lots of fun sexy times too.
Loved HJB’s Royal Atlas series and Hart was a fav of mine. Love that Kathy and Heidi teamed up to continue on with the families joining forces. Are we gonna get Aaron’s story next? Hint hint. Loved every page of this book.
HJ Bellus and Kathy Coopmans deliver us a beautifully written book. A story of family, violence, turning to alcohol, overcoming tragedy, forgiveness, and love. I couldn't put Toxic down. From page 1 I was drawn in.
I felt the strong connection and desire that Alex and Maria shared. And their journey to happiness isn't an easy one. Toxic is a thrill ride full of twists and turns. But watching these two overcome the odds was beautiful. A 5 star must read from these talented authors.
*I voluntarily read an advance copy. This is my honest review.*
HJ Bellus and Kathy Coopmans are one of my top fav go-to co-authors. They don’t disappoint and I mean never!! Toxic was no different.
After everything that went down with Full Contact with Alex saving Justice and her unborn child Alex wasn’t the same. Him and Justice never wanted to be in that part of the Diamond empire. It’s why their family bought an NFL team and have them running it. They're still in the empire. They don't do the mafia side, but the business side.
But, image and image keep running thru Alex’s head. Hearing his voice over and over. Alex goes away checks into a B&B and spends his nights in bottle and women after women. Maria works there and she seems keep getting the brunt of everything he’s doing. Alex finally goes home back to reality.
Maria was glad when Alex left. She was tired of cleaning up his puke everyday. But, she felt for him bc she saw in his eyes they were void of life. He was sad and unhappy and she just wanted to save him.
Maria decides to move to Boise, Idaho and go to college. She ends up working at her Aunts bar as a bartender and gets on stage sings. One night she sees Alex sitting in a booth at the bar still wasting away in a bottle. Maria cant believe Alex is here in Idaho. But, her plan is to stay far away from him.
Alex is shocked to see Maria. He'd heard her singing at the B&B, but seeing her onstage and he is speechless. He knows he owes her an apology for how he treated her. He does so the only way he knows how and with money. But, Maria lets him know she's not that girl and puts him in his place. Alex knew then Maria was made for him, even though he's toxic and she's perfect.
These two cant help but be drawn to each other. Maria can see the good in Alex even though Alex feels he's lost a part of himself. But when he's with Maria he feels it. He continues fighting the demons that are battling inside his head. His conscience is always mixing up his feelings.
Thanks to Alex's cousin Justice, his dad Roman, whose the head of the Diamond empire, his brother and uncles, Alex goes away to get his drinking under control and plans to comeback to his job and making Maria his. Maria knows no matter what anybody says she wants Alex. And, not for his money or his empire. But, she wants Alex for Alex.
Once I opened this book I didn't put it down. Maria was a strong woman and she didn't let anybody push her around. She was quiet and let loose when she needed too. And, Alex oh man. I knew from Full Contact that I wanted him. But, wow! He was more then I'd dreamed about.
I loved how the previous Diamond clan was back and still as bad ass as before. Roan was back in a big way. He's still the head of the Diamond empire. But, we got another side or role from him. We got the daddy Roan and he loved his son and would do anything for Alex. The whole Diamond empire had me laughing and smiling and I'm hoping this series isn't over.
Maria Richards wishes she were somewhere else. Alex Diamond is all about getting the job done. But that job comes with consequences. One thing they have in common is family. This story doesn’t start out with any hearts and flowers. It left me feeling sorry for Alex but it also left me glad when I finally saw his “aha” moment.
A secondary character that I came to love was Maria’s Aunt Peaches. Would love to visit her establishment and then read this book all over again. But Maria would have to be there as well. Her dad reminds me of my own father. No matter how old we may be they still think of us as their little girl and will do whatever they can to protect us.
These authors were very respectful of Maria’s lack of experience. They let our couple’s story progress at Maria’s own pace even though at times Alex seemed a little impatient. She may lack experience but she knows how to fight for what she wants and how to speak her mind. There came one point in the story where I finally got hooked and there was no way I was putting this book down until I read that last word. And for everything these two went through the authors came up with the perfect ending.
The only quandary I have is to wait for their next collaboration – and that’s never a bad thing. Or should I go back and look at what this crossover entails. Either choice will make me happy so than it becomes which do I do first. That’s a puzzle that I will eventually figure out.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
When HJ Bellus and Kathy Coopmans decide to co-write a crossover book called Full Contact I was elated! They elevated their series to new heights with this next generation and the two series were blended together so well! I couldn’t wait for Alex’s story and the fact that the ladies now blended another series of HJ Bellus’, well my heart just about left my chest!
Toxic is a crossover that continues from Full Contact and is Alex and Maria’s story. I don’t know how Kathy and HJ do it every time but once again, they have outdone themselves. These characters mesh so well and it was amazing seeing old favorites make appearances. Alex and Maria don’t have things easy. Their story isn’t all cupcakes and rainbows. They are real and experience real problems while trying to start something new with each other. Their story is the ultimate, “lean on me”, story. Maria proves to Alex countless times that she will always be there for him and Alex shows Maria that love can surpass anything if it is strong enough.
I can’t say that Toxic met my expectations because it went way above what I thought. When you think you have it figured out, the ladies made sure to flip you outside down and inside out. You won’t ever see it coming.
I wish all crossover stories could be at this level of amazing!
Maria and Alex met the first time when he ends up staying at her family's Bed & Breakfast while she's helping out her parents. He's a drunken mess, who always has a woman with him. She thinks when he leaves, that's it, she won't see him again, but she would be wrong. Fate steps in, and they cross paths again, but this time, Maria can see the demons that he's trying to forget about, so she gets to know him a bit better, and feelings follow. But Alex wants to become a man worthy of her, so there's some drama, with a big rift, as he gets his head on straight, while Maria thinks he's rejecting her. And that's when all kinds of drama comes in to play. These two had such a connection, that the sparks shot out of my kindle, so when sexy times even threatened to pop up, it lit anything they were around on fire. There's an interesting array of secondaries that make up the good, bad, and the ugly, but all added more to this emotional, and hot story! Plus, there's a few big twists that rushed me to finale, and boy were my f-bombs dropping as I didn't see them coming. These two authors really make a dynamic duo, as they meshed together perfectly, and wrote a brilliant story that I never wanted to end. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Here's the deal, you had me for much of this story, I was hooked and really curious on what was going to happen. But something changed for me in the second half of the book, it becomes repetitive and I almost think the authors were trying too hard with the conflict. Alex is already struggling with his sobriety, and dealing with the fallout from his actions but let's add Lexi into the mix and why not Lance too. But here's the thing, I didn't feel like Alex put much work into his sobriety, we didn't get to witness much of his time in therapy and other than a couple lines about how he'll always have triggers or be tempted that was pretty much done, swept under the rug. Early on in the book, I connected easily with Maria, thought she was kind, caring, sweet and also had a bit of sass but I loved her for that and because of her relationship with her family and Peaches, just seemed like a nice sweet girl and then, well she didn't. I think as the storyline becomes more aggressive so does Maria and I struggled to keep up with the difference. But really, other than that, I did enjoy this story, I felt the connection between the characters and even enjoyed much of the storyline/plotline. I just feel like some of the content was too busy for this book.
