Harry: Conversations with the Prince

Rate this book

Once a reckless rebel, now a respected role model, Prince Harry is one of the world's most popular royals and the force behind giving the British royal family a twenty-first century makeover. How has he done it? Harry: Conversations with the Prince is a three-dimensional look at what Harry is really like, both on and off royal duty. It is written by distinguished journalist and author Angela Levin, who accompanied Prince Harry on many of his engagements and had exclusive access to him at Kensington Palace.

The book unwraps the real man behind the camera, and his own perceptive insights. It delves into his troubled childhood and the lasting effect of losing his adored mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, so young. It explores his rebellious teenage years and the key defining moments that have enabled him to face his demons and use this experience to help others who struggle with mental, emotional and physical pain. Angela Levin found a complex man who has inherited his late mother's extraordinary charisma and is determined to 'make a difference.'

After finding the love of his life in Meghan Markle, and in anticipation of their marriage this year, this is a celebration of the real Prince Harry.

This book is nothing more than a cash grab to jump on the hype of the royal wedding. It was hastily written, offered nothing unique, and really wasn't that well written. In fact, most of the book was spent comparing Harry to William and not really focusing on Harry. There were also parts where the author would randomly toss in a random fact about Harry and Meghan which just didn't go with the flow of the book.

Another major issue I had was the random opinions the author threw in. There were parts where she threw in her personal opinion about situations which tainted the biography.

I couldn't finish this book. Found out that Angela Levin based this whole book on a 20 minute meeting with Harry, who did not know or give permission for using the material to write what turns out to be an unauthorized biography.

Terrible book. The author interviewed Prince Harry and tried to make a whole book out of it. Half of the writing is implications or guesses as to what he might have been thinking or feeling or why he might have done something. This is terrible journalism. Don't waste your money.

A very good biography of my favorite Prince, but of course, not as complete as we all would wish. It stops just before his wedding to Meghan. It offers nice comparisons with William in how they are different in personality and roles. Harry may be "the spare😶" but he has stepped into a larger, responsible role as Prince just as well as William. It seems outof respect for his grandmother rather than his father, but it's respect all the same. Who doesn't make silly and stupid mistakes? He's a good lad.

The world has its eyes on you, Harry, and can't wait to see what else your bio will contain!

And we can't wait to see the littlest prince or princess!

This was very insightful. Everyone who blames Meghan for the removal should read this. He had this on his mind since he was a child, it took her to strengthen his resolve. So many different sides of Diana, eye opening.

Fun, quick and interesting read. I learned a good deal about "royal" duty in the modern age and honestly from this just think Harry is a good person. Would recommend!

Enjoyed the book.
Was nice to hear something I'd not heard before. Was just a quick read before I purchase spare.

Three stars feels a little mean, because this is, to be fair, a decent book. It's easy going and there's lots of information in there. It is a biography of Prince Harry, and what you see is what you get. It tells the story of his early life right up until his engagement to Meghan.

That said, this book is in serious need of some editing. There were several typos, in some cases there were no commas where there should have been, no capital letters at the start of a sentence when there should have been, etc etc. Several times I had to re-read a sentence because it had been written in such a convoluted way that it needed to be read two, three, sometimes four, times to make sense of what the author was saying. (Also David Starkey, as much disdain as I have for him, isn't a dr, he's a professor). Little grammatical errors and things like that are really the main reason I gave this three stars; the odd mistake I understand, but there were just so many.

The title "conversations with the prince" is also fairly misleading - it's a biography with some quotes thrown in here and there. I was expecting much more direct conversation with Harry than there was. Also: the most random of facts are thrown in. At one point we're told Harry sat down to a meal of beef tenderloin and other courses on one occasion. They're sort of shoved in, and I don't quite understand why. The author also has a habit of talking about things that are barely related with no gap. I just felt a good few transitory paragraphs would have helped it flow much better.

I have not read this through. I bought it to search a specific quotation. What I read was well written and interesting for those interested in Prince Harry.
What did strike me was the complete change in tone between most of the book and the last chapter which records events after he met his future wife. Prince Harry appears to have altered from a ‘hail fellow, well met’ to a somewhat paranoid overly concerned consort. Meghan Markle is a well dressed young woman who spends a lot on her wardrobe and we are given plenty of insight into what she spent on each item.

I have almost finished the booked about Prince Harry. The book is amazing and you get a great insight to his life. The book will make you sad but also make you smile and laugh at different parts in the book. If you are following the royals then you will need to read this book.

I really enjoyed this book at first, but it seemed to lose some energy partway through. I did learn more about Prince Harry though and it's informative, just not a page turner. I really like Harry though! 7 out of 10

Nothing new really revealed but it's a nice biography of an apparently nice young bloke, who's grown up to appear remarkably normal and down to earth despite his royal upbringing and the tragic loss of his mother at an early age.

This was a weird one. Granted it was written in 2017 before all of the drama of Harry and Megan leaving the royal family, but it was still an oddly written book. It was very evident that the author didn’t like Megan Markle and referred to her quite often as being “motherly” towards Harry. There was also quite a bit of shaming her for what she wore giving prices for clothing pieces and accessories. In fact, a lot of the book consisted of the author relaying what different people wore for different occasions. I also felt like while the book is a biography on Harry there wasn’t a whole lot of him in it. The book is advertised as having an interview with him, but I don’t feel like the interview was very long and didn’t get a whole lot of information. A lot of the book I felt was the authors opinions and just researched information that she found in tabloid magazines. I just really wasn’t impressed with this one.

This book provides great insights about a man, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, who has exemplified courage and honor his whole life, and about a man in whom by doing his duties, by meeting the requirements of the times in which he lives, has garnered 110 per cent of my support. What shines through in Ms. Levin's book is Prince Harry's vibrancy and his resiliency. He served in the British Army and the Army Air Corps with distinction and serves his fellow veterans now through his work as a senior member of the British Royal Family. And I know, from reading this book, that Prince Harry will be a loving husband to his wife and an affectionate and loving father to his children. But I also know that he, when it comes down to it, will do his duty to his country first, to the United Kingdom, and in so doing will have a successful, prosperous and fulfilling life.

Can you say. Writing from a distance of vampire glamour….. how much smooching can a writer do well if you’ve lived and paid attention to the world of the Royals in the last 30 years you know the kid is Diana’s lover and looks the spitting image. The queen I’m sure gave a DNA test and has separated the bad blood from the lineage. Or…

Know your history and monarch rule and you know the British Empire rules the southern continent and the reports of the workers that came back of lost lives waste of money and all they shared know you do not wed the savages in that case the political move to marry during the BLM with a move to the media frenzied US is a brilliant political move for the future for what is one male sacrifice among the loss of millions just to secure a tax line and image control.

Quite disappointing. I am glad that I had it for free, as I would have hated to have spent money on it.
The blurb gives the impression that the book is based on private conversations between the Prince and the author. This is not so. It consists of pages and pages of well known information, that appears to have been 'lifted' from various other books and publications. There is certainly nothing new or insightful in here. It appears the author trailed around after him, but she certainly did not discover anything new or revealing.
It was a very boring read. It read like a student's dissertation on a famous person. Lots of cut and pasting, and no conclusions being drawn. I found myself quickly skimming and flicking through it. She certainly wouldn't have got a high grade with me. It needs quite a bit of development, I am afraid.

Not a bad read. It’s hard to work out how much is genuine interviews with the Prince and how much is regurgitated magazine and press articles / quotes over the years.
I read this book off the back of seeing Angela Levin interviewed in TV but have to admit to being a little disappointed that her ‘nuggets’ of info given in the interview were clearly the best of what is otherwise a pretty standard book.
There were some obvious errors in the book too, which was disappointing.
All that said, it’s quite an entertaining, easy read and written in great support of Harry and the Royal family. Not sensationalist at all.

LOVED this book! Took me only 2 days to read and Ms. Levin's style and research represented well throughout. I am biased, I SO admire this young man and have always admired his new wife, so, if you are not already fans, I still think it's worth the time.

It was obvious Ms. Levin valued her time following the Prince for over a year and listened to him genuinely in the way she detailed each chapter. Blended with expert opinions on his behaviors and alleged causes and affects vs his goals for his life and his partnership, it was a great read.

I loved 'Diana: Her True Story - in her won words' so I thought I might enjoy this books too but it was actually quite disappointing. While I enjoyed reading about the details of Harry's life, I didn't really learn anything new and I found the narrative lacked emotion and was far from raw (as Diana's was). The book basically told Harry's life story through what we have seen and heard through the media and I'm not sure how many 'conversations' the author actually had with him. I wanted to find the 'real' Harry but he is not to be found inside the pages of this book.

A very interesting insight into Prince Harry, although not a lot of new information. It was helpful to help understand the pressures he has had his whole life and why he has acted the way he has . It is interesting to see how much he is like Prince Phillip, forging a path in the royal life that fits with his desires (in the military) and his demands of being a royal. He is also so much like his mother, Princess Diana, who had such a heart for those who are less fortunate or are suffering. It is interesting watching "the royals" change the monarchy, hopefully for the better!

I enjoyed this story. I felt like it was truthful as there were quotes and input from interviews with Prince Harry. I felt the author was objective including good and bad about Harry except when Megan Markle came along. I felt as if the author was more subjective and less objective when reporting on her life as well as the relationship. I felt like she didn’t really like Megan and I shouldn’t have felt that from a biography. I still enjoyed the story though especially since I was reading it concurrently with the documentary and they matched.

I bought this book right after their royal wedding and was excited to read more about Prince Harry. Unfortunately, by the end I really disliked the overall tone by the author. She criticizes everything during his entire life and although trying to look supportive of Harry and Meghan, she primarily focuses on negative and cutting things about Meghan. I'm not sure I would recommend this book to anyone...

I did the audiobook and the narrator was good.
Maybe a half of this book is about Harry directly and the other is about Diana and the rest of the family. Nothing about the brothers breaking up or nasty comments. It does go a lot into Harry's mental struggles and how he got help. Maybe the reason he attached so quickly to Meghan as she is a strong female.

A good reference for what Harry faces during his youth and early 20’s, however not written by him and rarely used his own words. Disappointing because it almost sounds like it was written by a member of the paparazzi themselves. Fine for people obsessed with the royal family, but otherwise unnecessary.

I thought this book was brilliant, Angela Levin followed Harry for more than a year and had countless interviews with him. Unsure why others think the book is based on a 20 minute interview, there is a lot of detail in this book and a lot of revelations that help understand Prince Harry more than ever.
I take my hat off to our Prince, love the book beginning to end.

I was not impressed with this authors writing. There was no emotions to this author. When you are telling of of a person do you tell of that one and them not everyone else. Its their feelings, not everyone else. Autobiography and Biography are to be the that person and their life and the way they lived it not how everyone else wants them to put it out there for their feelings.
